of coarse it is. probably around christmas. halloween if we are really lucky. he sgs2 comes out at the end of the month according to my local reps. the gb update will likely follow that by a few weeks. that's my prediction.
yea it sucks the update is pushed back so far but no chance they will do anything to mess with the sgs2 release

I am one who appreciates the thread and talk of the Infuse GB update. I had expected the GB update in Aug. like all of the other 2011 phones received. I returned my Infuse for refund due to the GB update not coming through. And I loved my Infuse. It was buggy as hell, but was a superior phone in every other way...especially music playing. As soon as the update happens...if it happens...I might just get another Infuse.
I think the Infuse will turn out to be the better phone between it and the SGS2. The screen is larger, the battery is larger and the other specs are pretty much the same. The SGS2 has NFC. But I can live without that. I see no use in a dual core. Both phones have a FFC.

Now Asus has been great with updating the Transformer.

Samsung has already built gingerbread for the Infuse, hence the Rogers base roms we're enjoying currently. The fault lies fully with AT&T, not Samsung...

that actually may not be true....one of my sources at Samsung claims they have nothing lined up for release to ATT until around Christmas

Ok guys let's not play this same old tune. With some research one can find that both ATT and Samsung suck at giving updates mainly when a New phone is coming out. So all one can do is sit back and wait or flash a custom Rom.

Its useless because everyone knows the infuse will get updated to GB. And no one knows when that will be. No new news has been released since it was announced; nothing has changed. I have to look at the thread because you posted it and now its on the list of threads cluttering up this forum. That's why its useless. you haven't stated anything we don't already know

The Captivate is seriously the best phone I have ever owned and I purchased it the first day it became available. Now I think I should have waited a few months before shelling out $499.99. Go to Twitter.com/GalaxySSupport and look at how many times they specifically say the Captivate will have Froyo by the end of the year.
From what I understand, it's ATT, not Samsung causing any delay. In any event, I'm fine with 2.1...I don't see the huge features brought by 2.2 anyway
At this point we may as well just wait for someone to cook some gingerbread.

Im looking forward to the flash 10.1 in froyo see what more I can do with my phone online its already taken the place of my laptop for reading my morning tech blogs so I can get up and go.

Tbh I rarely use flash for anything except maybe a few engadget videos. But I do use my phone more than anything now.

I also work at AT&T and i've heard no such date as to when the official 2.2 roll out is going to happen.
yeah if you here a date it is unofficial and subject to change at any moment, usually it will get delayed not pushed up. the att reps i have talked to are kept in the dark until the release day in most cases. the truth is that att is quite lazy.
back in september when we all thought a froyo release was coming soon i spoke to a samsung engineer who quoted "we are working on the froyo update around the clock" and "the wait should not be unusually long" well the lanuage hes used of "working around the clock" put my expectations around november. now who knows.

Even when the official 2.2 update comes out, I honestly don't see myself, or a lot of the xda community switching over to it. With DG doing great work on the Cog builds and a lot of people following in his footsteps to provide us new roms, the official Samsung and ATT approved updates will always be just mediocre at best.

Thats so long though; I got the captivate last july(?) And i can upgrade right noW. The Atrix and dock are very tempting but theyre going ti announce some good stuff at MWC. I just hope to god they take a note from Apple and have the phones ready to ship within a month or so.

If you know that AT&T is going to release better products down the road (and you do, if you're thinking about waiting 6 or so months) then you have to decide whether or not its worth it to get an HSPA+ phone or wait for the inevitable LTE devices to rear their heads. Personally, I'm thinking of getting an Inspire 4G retail when they're launched as a birthday present to me from me, and then possibly using my upgrade later on when an LTE device shows up. It's all a matter of whether it's worth the wait to you.
i used my update on my craptivate with my 2.1dumpdate1. if it wasnt for you devs then i would be pissing on samsungs doorstep right now. i think ill either get the atrix or a nexus s since dev phones are about the only thing guarunteed to get the latest stuff. paying full price anyway. id like to see motorola drop a high powered device like the atrix but wrap it up all tanky like the defy.

Exactly. See, I already have the Captivate now which, although won't be the best thing on the market soon, is still a damn good phone and @ 1.28ghz it keeps up just nicely with the best if them.
I have an upgrade and the question now is; what do I get? Since the Atrix was a flop (pricing and required tethering) im definitely waiting for MWC to see whats coming; the new Samsung phone should be great.

Ok there Guy could be early as next month but mostly points at October or November. We don't need a bunch of doctor Phil's In here trying to correct everything. Lol funny. Just read the post and leave it be.
But Google is comical they don't even have other things fixes but they are trying to release more. Im glad they are staying in the fastlane but they need to kick ATT in gear and fix other issues then release new stuff.

I hate to say it guys but get used to it. ATT is terrible with updates. Each phone may get one major update and thats about it. Any of you that have been in the smartphone world for a while will know this. Hell sometimes ATT wont push any updates for a phone at all.
I mean think about it. A phone is termed EOL after 4 months of ATT releasing it.

We don't know who is holding up the update, do we? It could be either Samsung or ATT. It's so frustrating that Ice Cream Sandwich is supposed to be released within the next few months and Infuse owners don't even have Gingerbread yet.
its the captivate all over again, over emphasis on updates(2.2 works fine for me), and a carrier that doesn't care about updates. why make the infuse their flagship and not push samsung to update it? i mean motorola got the atrix updated and att doesnt push that phone as hard, htc also got the inspire updated, att doesnt give a dan about that phone. but i really think it is samsung who wants to push updates only after a new device is released (sgs2!) and only because they want the new device to look beter the the "old" one
Bottom line here is simple: don't ever buy hardware in anticipation of future software releases (with the exception of a Nexus device). Once the device is sold the manufacturer really has no obligations to ever have anything to do with it again except for warranty services.

Reread the first paragraph, Tyshemi. Ice cream sandwich will be released in Oct/November. Jelly Bean will be released AFTER that, and if you go by Google's usual schedule, it would probably be around February.

Doesn't matter when really a month two months its the fact that phone released at the same time as ours have seen nice updates and dome even two updates since launch. Its the fact that this was a eye opener for ATT you know a "look at me " phone that's going to need a time machine to catch up.

All I see is too many phones coming, that the ave user will miss out on, because they are stuck on a 2 year contract, lol not everyone can afford to blow 300 plus every few months on the something new,
Truth be told I have an atrix ( which I love, great little workhorse ) and a infuse coming monday, Also have a droid incredible, and a inspire, and a few others laying around,
But the funny thing they all do the same thing, just some slightly faster than the other, etc.. right now even the droid incredible/nexus 1 still is plenty fast for gingerbread... and does everything those new dual core beasts can do.. for me its gonna boil down to design and the screen, much like when i used to shop for a pc/laptop.. <----hardly use those anymore, too. my 2 year old asus still runs like a champ. guess my point,. is choose what you like. dont get caught up in specs and hype. ..

Well, we're getting ICS either way thanks to Cyanogen... But it would be nice if LG and T-Mobile still showed some love for our phones!
I kind of doubt we will see another OTA update anytime soon but if we do great.
T mobile is all about the Sensation and Galaxy S 2, and LG has had enough if this fiasco of a phone. Cyanogen is the only hope of this ever getting another update, of any flavor.

i guess you guys are right!! i just cant understand when tmobile gave my friend from tmobile tech support a g2x with gingebread for test when the g2x came out!
it was 2.3.4 and their ota its 2.3.3 i talked to my friend today to see if he heard anything of another ota for the g2x. he said no he hasnt heard anything and pretty much they have forgotten or given up with the g2x.
my opinion on this is if this phone isnt going to be that much of a deal to companies. well i thing NVIDIA should release their drivers to the devs!!!

If the "OTA" is going to be 2.3.4, it's going to be outdated. We've been on 2.3.5<-- for almost 2 months now. (Well, with CM7, EB, Faux123, MIUI, etc.)
well that would be nice to see 2.3.4 at least.. maybe they can make the damn 4g icon and signal bars green like gingerbread is suppose to be. then give us the lg cam back then hopefully give us gtalk with video chat.. since skype hates tegra 2's and wont support are phones.. i shouldnt have to root my phone to get things that should just work with a stock rom.

If the "OTA" is going to be 2.3.4, it's going to be outdated. We've been on 2.3.5<-- for almost 2 months now. (Well, with CM7, EB, Faux123, MIUI, etc.)

Nexus One just updated today via OTA to 2.3.6. Hopefully LG skips a few versions and catches up if they issue another update.

thats what im saying!!! Nexus One or Nexus S are google phones thats why they get updates first but the g2x its a google phone too! so WTF

Correct, it's just with google on the back of the phone like the G2. Only Google phones made are the nexus line.
Hell will freeze over before this phone gets another official update. If you wont root and update it yourself but are savvy enough to use xda you have no one to blame but yourself.

The difference is that the devices in the Google Nexus line have their roms developed by Google engineers. Other devices must rely on the respective manufacturer to update them. On the Nexus line Google also pushes out the OTA themselves and never takes them down like T-Mobile did for the G2X. That was lame. Why not keep the OTA on your servers forever like Google does. Plus Google lets anyone get the OTA on any carrier. TMO limited it to people connected to their network (not even MVNOs) only. Since Google does their testing of new versions of Android on their own Nexus line, new roms get pushed out pretty darn fast. Soon, alas, they are going to declare the venerable Nexus One end of life (EOL) and stop providing roms for it. It might get ICS but we'll have to wait and see.
But the G2X is a great phone and the differences between 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 and 2.3.6 are so minimal there is nothing really to be upset about. No O2X worldwide has even gotten any official versions of GB yet, so you can be thankful, for once, that the US is a litigious society and the class action forced LG to release GB before they planned to. But now that they did, any future versions are questionable. LG doesn't have a good record of updating phones very often or very quickly.
i almost got to the point where i was gonna trade my g2x for a nexus s just because its a google phone and i know it will always be updated fast. but its hard to down grade from the g2xs nice specs

I'd much rather keep my G2X, even if it was still on 2.2, rather than trade for a Nexus S. Keep your G2X.
So I dropped my Sidekick 4G and my screen shattered literally. So I found someone who is selling a G2X cheap brand new. Pretty excited especially since my Sidekick 4G froze and glitched a lot! So G2X to Sidekick 4G a upgrade?

Im going to do it. A lot of people are trying to sell the G2X for that much as well. Im glad I found this person selling it for 180$. Imma just hold on to this for now until my contract expires and then go to Sprint and get the HTC One.

That's what I'm doing. But its gunna be hard. My contract ends in one year. Ha. Well T-Mobile has the HTC one too. I also recommend u to wait fore the s3.

With the Sidekick having so many glitches and freezing Imma pass on any Samsung phone lol.I know T-Mobile is coming out with that phone also and I am not sure if it is any different then the one Sprint has.
having one crappy phone from a manufacturer doesn't really affect the quality of other phones at all. the galaxy s II is one of the best phones of the past year. the galaxy nexus is also by samsung, and is also one of the best phones around at the moment. what you should look at is the phone's category, gsII and gnexus are both high end phones, while the sidekick 4g is an entry-level device.
true. galaxy s2 and galaxy nexus were the best. probably still the best right now. but g2x is a good phone. you will have fun with it. once u get it, if it asks for a ota update, dont do it yet. there are no roms for it as of now.

its the update that LG sends out. when you get the phone, you should check your BaseBand. if its March 2012, then stay on the rom ur on. u can flash other roms, but the calling will be f'ed up
The t-mobiel rom is very stable and very good, there is no need to use modded rom, none of the modes hold a candle to this update because of the firmware, driver and baseband upgrades in this rom. I am sure mods off this stock rom will come out soon and CNG will release their updates in the next couple of months however the stock rom is the best fully functional rom thats out right now only because LG fixed fundamental firmware and driver issues this round.

Phone is great so far. So should I root the phone or not? I have 2.3.3 right now. Give me some cool ideas you guys think I should try out. Also when I go to Software Update it gives me this error. "Connection failed caused by authentication error."

Its easy. Just look up the tutorials in xda. Its just install drivers. A fail apx, update apx to the correct drivers. Flash clockwork. Then Roms. Loom it up
