Managing Gmail contacts from transformer - Eee Pad Transformer Themes and Apps

I wondered if anyone can recommend a good solution / app that will allow you to view and manage my gmail contacts from my Transformer?
It's really bizarre that in the native Gmail app on the tablet that there isn't a tab/button to view my Gmail contacts like there is if I was logged in to Gmail from my windows notebook? There seems to be every other option other than "contacts"?
I know that my contacts are synchronized from my Gmail account as they pop up in the "to" line of an email when I start typing, but there isn't any way to manage/edit/add contacts like there is in the notebook computer gmail page?
I've found a way 3rd party app called "contacts 3" that seems to allow editing and management of contacts but hoping that there is a native solution? Seems like a really big oversight by Google if there isn't an integrated way to manage Gmail contacts?
Thanks.

No worries, friend. I can't even recall the number of senior moments I had at work this week and I am only 35. I attribute it to waaaaaay too many Phish concerts in the 90's.

[Q] sync facebook contacts?

coming from sense and touchwiz, i'm a little spoiled with the built in facebook sync, so i apologize if this question has already been asked before. in my contacts it recognizes my facebook, however whenever i receive a call or text message my facebook pics don't show up. is there a way to get this to work?
Download the facebook app from the marketplace and have it sync contacts.
That worked for me and all my contact info synced right up.
Sent from my LG-P999
Its what I did, however its when I receive a call or text message the fb pic doesn't show, its still blank.
Sent from my G2x!
Yea mine isn't syncing up right either. Picture is not showing up
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I wonder what I did differently because mine all synced and are running perfectly.
The pics show up in contacts, phonecalls, and texts...
Mine is also working fine. All contacts synced and photos showing for everyone.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
The names have to match up mostly.. If not, edit contact> join> find contact.
I had the same issue.
I downloaded syncmypix and it syncs your Facebook photos right to your Gmail account and that cleared it up.
Sent from my T-Mobile LG G2X
google did it
face book if you have synced with your google account it will work. syncing from facebook was stopped by google because they were not using the right api.
...I dont know if this is in effect on froyo 2.2.2 but it was and was highly publisized with gingerbread.
Of course this may be resolved if facebook fixed what ever google had a problem with.

Facebook sync works just fine in froyo. It was only removed on the latest update of gingerbread and it is not yet fixed.

If the sync worked just fine then we wouldn't be having this problem...i installed sincmypix from the market and it seems to work however I feel that we shouldn't need a separate app to get this to work properly.

The weird thing is that the facebook photo appears when I view the contact from the contact list, but when I view my sms threads, the photo is nowhere to be found. Also, when I use HANDCENT SMS, the photos show up just fine.

thanks for this app.. never heard of it till i saw u post the name of it here. works great on my g2x running gingerbread
slightly different problem.
I recently downloaded the FB app for Android. It asked to look at my contacts in order to see who was already on FB so I could add them as friends. There were at least 10 people I don't know. Obviously I have numbers in my phone that no longer belong to the people I know. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to see which numbers these are and either replace the old numbers or delete the contacts all together.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No Contact Pics in Messaging App??

So only issue I have with this phone so far is that none of my Contacts Pics show in the messaging app. My contact pics are all there in Contacts though. I tried hard resetting and setting up the phone again and it didn't fix it....so I'm stumped. Anyone out there having same issue or know how to fix it?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I'm having the same issue. No clue how to fix it yet.
I know this donte help you much but I do not have that problem. I have all my contact pics showing.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
In the stock message apparently specifically though, bullseye69?.. Not just your phone contacts list? I seem to be having issues with contact pics not showing up in various Google apps (gTalk for example) while everything seems to be syncing fine.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
the only contacts in messaging app that appear are the ones that have their google accounts synced with a picture
My contact pics are good in stock messaging. Even my wife's contact pic who does not have a google account, that I set manually with my G1 years ago. I did notice my own contact pic changed to an older one when I switched phones...
Is there a better messaging app? I do miss the vibrants default
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I have this problem, however its only with Facebook synching. Google pics, or photos I've manually saved to contacts work.
There's a free app called synchmypix that will solve your Facebook woes.

You can't go wrong with Handcent !
My facebook photos were showing up in my contacts, but not in my messaging. I got SyncMyPix as well and it worked like a charm.
EDIT: Oops just saw Frank29 post. He already mentioned SyncMyPix.

SMS to Tablet - DeskSMS

I searched and I don't think this has been covered here yet
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.koushikdutta.desktopsms&feature=order_history
http://lifehacker.com/5827451/desksms-is-the-best-phone+to+desktop-sms-solution-weve-seen-yet
I used to use syncsms and while it was good it sometimes would just not work, and it utilized dropbox which I wasn't a fan of. This is awesome and uses google chat or email. All I did was create a new gmail just for this purpose and keep google talk logged into it on my tablet. Just wanted to share the wealth and all props goes to Koush who also developed RomManager, man that guy is awesome.
i love this app with the Chrome extension, but found that it was cluttering up my gchat contact list with people's phone numbers as contacts. To fix I set the app to only send emails and filter them in Gmail. I like the idea of setting up a separate email address to handle that issue.
I take it you have to side load on the TF? Market shows incompatible for TF but good for my N1
You install the app on your phone, then i use google talk to receive the messages on the transformer. The app just forwards the messages

Ah OK, got it thanks.
I use textab for this feature. Works very well.
I dont like using Bluetooth, and this way they don't need to be near eachother to work in case I forget my phone
TextTab does work well when I was using the beta, only thing I wish it did was enable upon boot. I always forget to enable it after phone or tablet boot up.
I use SynSMS except like mentioned it's not always reliable.
I like this DeskSMS so far. I can get rid of Mighty Text and SyncSMS and replace with one app.
Also with this as with SyncSMS, I can leave my phone home and on while out of the country and still get my SMS.
I use the google voice app on my transformer. It is the same as on my ATRIX. I can text and read and listen to voicemails.

I'm not quite sure how to use desksms....I downloaded it to my phone...then I put in my google account....had check boxed the gmail and google chat boxes....but nothing happens when I send an sms...I did the "test sms" from the app and it came to my phone....but that was it...nothing on the tablet...
what SMS client to I install to my tablet?
So the app can send sms, eh - that somehow worries me.
I just use google talk on my tablet to get the messages and you can respond through gtalk also

Nothing is install on the tablet, it forward your sms to Google Talk.
It work for me at first but now it does not forward amy sms to my google talk.
It does sync with my Chrome extension
mine still works, I also have the google talk desktop program and get it through there too
So if i use google voice there's no reason to use this right?
nope..not really
edit: as long as you sideload google voice onto the tablet

Yeah I have a seperate email address, but the thing is i have to log out of my main account to use desksms which seems annoying as everything google is the phone's email and i have nothing but email setup. how did you setup your filters?

Honeycomb Stock Email App Problem!

Okay, I'm gettting really really pissed off at this issue and I need to know if this is just my tab or a honeycomb issue!! So using the stock email app (not the Gmail app) i send an email and i find that it appears as unread under sent. I figure that's fine so i click the checkbox and mark as unread--resync my email and i find that it still says unread!! Even if i give it a day or two, the "Unread Sent Mail" just stacks up...so frustrating. Am I the only one here? I can do a factory reset if that's the only option but i'm always busy and don't feel like rerooting and reconfiguring my tab to the way i want....any help? Btw, anybody else experience their alarm icon disappearing randomly during the day? Thanks for any comments or words of motivation haha
its the app problem... stop using that ****ty app... and go download a better apps at market like k9mail

Thanks for the suggestion but I figured out sync issues by Changing my IMAP prefix then using a computer to log into gmail and select which IMAP folders to hide.

[S] [APP] Contact Picture Sync

Guys, I'm having a hard time finding an App that syncs Facebook profile pictures in HD to my phone contacts.
Haven't found a real alternative for HaxSync yet. HaxSync works for syncing the pictures in best quality, but only as long as the phone contac is named like the Facebook contact. PicSync seems to do it the right way by letting you chose a sync by Facebook ID (means it doesn't care about changing names), but it's no HD.
Any REAL alternatives, please?

WTF? We live in the 21st century and even HTCs social hub can sync by Facebook ID and everybody is telling me that HaxSync is the ONLY way for now?
Excuse me?!
HaxSync can and does sync friends manually, even though it's a bit less than user-friendly at the moment. The next update will make it much easier
Try this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ro.weednet.contactssync&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsInJvLndlZWRuZXQuY29udGFjdHNzeW5jIl0.
It connects by FB id... atleast that wat it claims
I've just tried contact picture sync and it seems working.
It's free and you can sync them manually in HD.
Is this what you are looking for?

Does it also sync all contact pictures by time schedule? HaxSync would be perfect if it would sync by ID and not by the stupid names.. you know how often girls change their ****ty names on Facebook - and boom, HaxSync doesn't recognize the person any longer and the conract picture catches dust. Awesome.

Just something HaxSync-like which keeps neatly in the background and syncs by ID on Jelly Bean. Can't be THAT hard, right?

Huge problem I have with this App: It does not really only sync the contacts in my phone list. I don't even want a facebook link in my contacts and I do NOT want to let Facebook import any phone contacts into the friggin' interwebz. I JUST want the goddamn picture in HD, synced by ID!

I upgraded it - do I still need the JellyBean Workaround? And one more thing: Could you simplify the menu structure, please? I've tested all the tools mentioned in this thread.. and came back to HaxSync.
