[Q] samsung galaxy s 4g new root - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

hi. i rooted my phone for the first time yesterday. i only did it because i'm new to this and i'm kind of a dork i wanted to see how it works. i also wanted to get rid of some of the stock apps that i don't use. what's the best ROM to flash for a beginner and is there somewhere i can find instructions on how to do it? i know bricking is a possibility if i do it wrong, and that's what i'm trying to avoid.

You can search for specific things, or look at the Bible thread. Tells you exactly what you can do with the phone

Check out the bible. Its very helpful. I'd stay away from gb Rom until you are comfortable with flashing.
Personally i like the audiophile redux and icbinb. Those ares smooth roms. Black ice is good but it's a little difficult to get running.

GB is definitely tricky, but fbis has a great tutorial on how to flash. GB starter pack

I would flash Valhalla the dev gave really easy instructions of how to flash it

1.6 oc stable!!! - This requires Tegrak Overclock
Both are located in the general forum.
I read that. Its too complicated for me. AHahaha. Thats why im asking for a stepbystep. :/. i search before i post

Are you serious?!
Use the huge knowledge base xda forums provide! It's not too complex how overclocking works. I think you are too lazy to get on it.
I don't want to be mean, but if you think that's hard to handle with than I recommend to let your hands away from this kind of stuff.
Rtfm! ;-)

What do you do on your phone that would require overclocking anyway?

I think those are as simple as the guides get to flashing and overclocking. If they're too complicated, then maybe you should consider not making any mods to your phone until you've read enough and feel confident.
The thing is, on tegrak overclock, when i change the level 0 to 1500/1400/1175, it closes and says testing stability. Then when i open tegrak again, nothing changes...

You shouldn't really be making the jump from 1000 to 1500 right away as it is. Should be easing your way up. However as long as the phone vibrates and it says checking stability, then it's working.
I definitely agree with FBis251 here. You really don't need anything to be OC'd on this phone. If you don't understand how to OC, you should probably avoid it. However, If you're THAT eager to OC, just gradually bump up the GHz to whichever amount you want.
As for CWM, you'll definitely have to learn how to use it. Here's as simple as it can be said. I'm assuming you know how to get CWM properly, since your OP asks about CWM flashing.
1) Put the ROM you wish to flash in your SD card
2) Boot into CWM
3) Check mounts (UMMU) if you're on orange CWM; you don't need to check it if you're on red CWM
4) Select the ROM you wish to flash
Remember that not all ROMs have the same flashing instructions. While it's okay to be a slow learner, it's not okay to not read carefully here. Please read carefully and try not to clutter the forum with "OMG, I BRICKED" threads. There seems to be more and more these days.
Honestly, if you have trouble understanding these guides, you might want to just stick with whatever you have. Flashing is usually more difficult than just what I mentioned up there. Btw, if you didn't understand how to use CWM, how did you even get KH2 Deodexed?
Sorry if this post made me sound mean, but I just wanted to make it clear for you.
Im on Kf2. not kh2. ahahhaha. And that one was via odin. I wanna learn how to cwm flash so i can use the kh1 or 2. . thanks for the posts guys. Although i dont get it, im constantly reading it over and over again ahahaha.

Looked up a different way. So, i plan on flashing bali kernel 3.3 via CWM. Will it work on my current build?
Stock Deodexed KF2 rooted w/ KH2 modem. :/ nothing customized.

Edit again. Sorry for the spam. But when I flashed kh1 or kh2 via cwm, I got bootloop ((( currently on kf2 deodexed rooted stock gingerbread. Downloaded bali kernel 3.3 then attempted to flash. Flashed successfully then got caught in bootloop help anyone?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
As far as I remember, and I may be wrong at this point, but you can't use flash Bali 3.3 on KH1 or KH2. If you want to flash to KH1 or KH2, then I'd suggest following the steps in this thread.

Rooting?

running 2.3.3 Gingerbread and im trying to root with superclick but i cant dosent let me stays on waiting for device can anyone help
I have a similar problem; but it freezes on step 6 instead
You can get root by simple flashing Dr honk's kg4 kernel via Odin.
Hope this helps!

go to the development section and read up happy flashing.
Random question, why do you have 2.3.3, Kf1 and 2 were the most unstable roms ever built for the gs4g. You need to use kh2. Kh2 is 2.3.4.

Noobs what can u say I'm one too takes trial n err....most imporatant lesson I've learn is not to try to cwm anything away from my screenless laptop that's basically a desktop now. Atleast till you know what ur doin....almost to that point now heh.

Nice people help

I have a vibrant and a mytouch 4g and i know almost how to do everything on these phones and u guys know how stressful and how much information u need to suck in before u feel comfortable attempting to root and flash roms and I'm used to rom manager and stuff that I understand u can't use on this phone So my friend wants me to root his galaxy s 4g so it can be faster and have a lot more app space. But I don't feel like researching and testing for hours. So I was wondering if u guys could help me out and point me to the best way to root and best rom and tweaks to apply and if u guys could I would be forever grateful. Thanks.

Best way to root is to Odin a modded kernel. You get root and clockworkmod in one shot. Just use a gb kernel if on gb and if on froyo use a froyo kernel. as far as roms go I loved Valhalla. Very few issues and good speed/battery life.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Well he is on froyo now but would want to get to gingerbread what would I want to flash I'm guessing gingerbread but just want to make sure and could u recommend one that is good and can undervolt
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Personally I would use kies mini to upgrade to the official gingerbread then Odin a modded kernel to get root and cwm then flash either whitehawkx's Valhalla or ravers' octane rom. Flashing a gb rom while on froyo will cause bootloader issues.

I have a Vibrant also and after doing alot of searching and reading I found a thread called GB Ext4 Starter Pack which you can find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223765
Follow it exactly and your friends phone will be fine. I also recommend flashing the Valhalla Final Rom. It is by far the best Rom I've tried for the SGS4G. Good luck.
Thank u everybody

[Q] Official Gingerbread 2.3.6 to Froyo 2.2.1 Need Help!

I have the Infuse and I just upgraded to Gingerbread 2.3.6 using kies mini and the update from samsung. Upon downloading it and using it for a few days I absoutely hate it and would like to go back to Froyo 2.2.1. I have searched and searched through thread after thread and I have found no solution to this problem due to the fact that you can not root the official Gingerbread 2.3.6 and seems like this is a common problem with no real answer. I have an idea and im no expert but thats why I am here for the help. My girl also has an Infuse and she is still running the Froyo. My question to all of you is there a way to use her phone with the original Froyo OS and transfer it to My Infuse with Gingerbread OS or does anyone know of a solution to the rooting problem with 2.3.6? Thanks for your time.
Read this thread and choose the method best suited for you. Personally, I have always found that Odin is easier to use.

Thanks so much for the help I kind of feel dumb now. I figured out the reason Odin couldn't recognize my device was because of the USB cable. I switched the cable and bam it worked... thanks for taking the time to guide me in the right direction.

How do you not like gingerbread? Copy and paste. Smoother. More options. More apps work. Etc...
If you hate gingerbread don't go to jellybean they really rearrange the buttons on top of the new features.
Gingerbread made my lock screen not work properly and some of the features I didn't like so I'm running 4.0.4 and so far I love it.
