Ok, I've heard and read while about to fall asleep at night about a "Paul's patch" or a "Paul O'Brien fix" and several other references to it but I have no idea how to locate it. I've searched the G2X forums and searched the general android forums but not found a link to this "fix". I assure you I have used the search, I just suck at using the board's search features. (Call me a re-re, whatever.)
Can anyone tell me what it does, where to find it, and most importantly, is it even needed on the G2X pretty please?
I appreciate anyone posting here and trying to enlighten this caveman of Android users. Thank you!

Thank you for the fast response!
This being the first time I've flashed anything I'm assuming that I put this zip file in the clockwork mod folder on the internal SD and then boot to clockwork recovery and flash it from there?
FYI, Stock 2.2, rooted running clockwork mod that was flashed using NVFlash so it's not a fakeflash.
Meh, I figured it out. I really shouldn't try to do things at work while working a helpdesk, makes my brain not work quite right to have a user nagging me for a password reset because they forgot which of their 20 grandkids it was to begin with.
Thanks again for the fast response and patience!

You need to read mudknot's stickied guide front to back several times. The best advice anyone can give you on it is read, read, read, and read some more. The process is not complicated, but is not easy by no means. It will happen if you read, be patient, don't rush, and follow the steps precisely.

There are two methods on how to root....there is the (Hack Kit)... And the (simple one click ) by bubby... I used the one click method... But read read read...

Read read read. Do more research, have a drink to calm the nerves, then use bubby's one click. Works perfectly! Then after that flash the Ninja rom in my sig.

Everyone is correct. Reading first will help things go a lot smoother. I would recommend attn1 hack kit. You have a lot of roms to choose from. Just take your time. If you really get stuck or don't understand then ask.
I agree. Read and one click
Oh thanks I rooted super easy ...what's the custom Rom that's is close to stock in look and feel

Root password?
Im trying to follow the Ace Hack Kit (v11), but when I try to run the hack-ace.sh code, it asks me for the root password, which I don't know and can;t find anywhere online. I feel like an idiot for asking, but what is it? Ive been searching for hours.
Im running OS X 10.6.6, and the phone is Kernel version 2.6.32.21-g6a5ff14 [email protected] #1, if that helps at all.
Im new to rooting, Ive been a Jailbreaker until I just switched to Android. I understand everything in the hack guide, just cant get past the simplest step it feels like. Someone help me out?
And sorry for putting this on someone else's thread... it wouldnt let me post an original for some reason.

Lol. Man the keyboard really had it in for you on that one.
I like "blowy" though. It's a refreshing change.
I have had two inspires and on my first one I used Bubby's rooting program only because it did not require the use of command prompt as much as the Hack kit did at the time, but on my second inspire I used the hack kit because that has truly been turned into a fool proof way of rooting and it seem's that bubby has abandoned his rooting program because it has not been updated for sometime. The hack kit does it all for you all you have to do is tell it what you want done by entering either a 1,2 or a 3 and it does the rest.
As for rom's I use the Coredroid because it is closer to the HTC stock sense and Surgio keeps up on the updates and the bugs also.
I'm on my first Android with the Inspire and rooted a few days ago using the hack kit... it was very simple and all went well. I've gone through a few roms already, probably didn't give each enough time but wanted to find something I liked and now ended up with GingerBeast. There is a problem with GPS though with Gingerbread but if you look for gingerbread gps fix it can be taken care of easily.
You should give each rom at least a week to see how it works, there is a wierd thing with rom's they need a couple of days to settle in to the phone and to see how the battery and everything else work with that certain rom, that is why I have chosen one rom and have stuck with it through two inspires, I have found coredroid to be the best rom for my purposes and none other fit the bill.
I am also new to Rooting of my inspire, but not a noob to android by anymeans. I searched and searched through and through the thread with the simple one click root. I understand what it is that i need to do.
But for the life of me, i cannot get the simple one click root application to download and install on my computer. I have my antivirus and all off, firewall turned off. I download the file, it starts extracting and unziping. Then it goes to installation. The green bar at the bottom gets up to about 90% full, then the entire screen just closes by itself and thats it.
Restarted my computer 4 times and tried it again 4 times last night with the same results. SO i guess my question is not going to be how to root, i think i got a grasp on that one, but can someone point me in the direction of a different link for the one click app or lend some advice of how i can get it installed.

I had the same problem with my old XP laptop. I studied for a month, was sure I had my PC set up correctly. And Bubby's just would not run on my PC. Ended up using the hack kit which worked. One thing they do say to make sure you have the latest .FrameworkNet and Java consoles installed, for something to check.
Thanks for the response. It is appreciated. I did do those updates amd still no luck. Guess its the hack kit for me.

First, before shaming me over a question that surely has been answered somewhere (yeah, I saw the scary intro video ), let me just say that:
I read the camera thread (no, not all 100+ pages) but couldn't find the answer.
I tried to post on that thread but wasn't allowed because of my noob status.
I'm an Android developer, so you don't have to hold my hand.
I'll gladly read the instructions, if only I can find them.
So... I have a G2X that I've upgraded to Android 2.3.3 using LG's tool. Like everyone in the world, I hate the new Gingerbread camera. Well, not so much hate---it's just that the photos and videos are unusable.
So I found on the camera thread that some wonderful person(s) have made available the camera from the Froyo version. I downloaded the LGCam V3.0.zip file and unzipped it. But I'd like to know:
Do I just install the apk like any other android app?
What do I do with the library and XML files? Do I just throw them in some special Android directory? Or do I leave them in the same directory as the apk? Or do I put them elsewhere?
Once I install this apk, can I uninstall it and go back to the camera I have now?
What are all those other files (e.g. Stock_Gingerbread_Camera.zip) on that thread? Are they merely earlier versions, or are they alternate camera builds from other developers?
I'm sorry I couldn't find this information. But I couldn't. If you'd point me to this information, I'd appreciate it---and if I succeed I'll even write a blog entry about it to make this easier for others. Thank you!!
You don't have to unzip it, just flash the .zip it through recovery. You can leave the .zip on the root of your SD and just.flash it through there. The Stock Gingerbread Camera .zip is the camera you have now, so you can revert. Also, you might want to try Jboxer's 2.3.4 ROM, it has the LG Camera pre-installed.

You can root your phone and still keep your apps. If you follow this guide, and then flash WeaponG2x, you'll be fine since Weapon G2x is based on the same 2.3.3 firmware. At that point, you should be able to flash the LG Camera in recovery by holding power+volume down.
You can flash Weapon without factory reset since it's based on 2.3.3? File this under "things I wish I knew last night"

Oh, that would be awesome. So these xda-developers.com threads... you know, I'm used to someone creating and updating single page. (Sorry for whining.) Can I just read the first page of these posts you mentioned and follow the directions? Or do I have to read all 50+ and 100+ pages, respectively, and note all the small details in some obscure reply that might modify the instructions, or indicate something has been updated, etc., and note that e.g. page 83 changed the instructions mentioned in page 40, which changed the instructions on page 1, except that page 90 told how the instructions on page 40 were wrong...? How does this work?
I'm pretty new here but they seem to update the versions with instructions in the first post. If you want commentary on a version you will probably have to look for posts in the time frame it was released.
got WeaponG2x---next steps?
OK, I'm almost there, but...
I installed ClockworkMod. Am I rooted now? (I downloaded Titanium Backup but couldn't find out how to start it---the "refund" button was all that was available, so I requested a refund.)
If I flash the LG Camera using the power+volume down combination, why did I need WeaponG2x? Couldn't I have just flash the new camera using ClockworkMod?
Now that I have ClockworkMod installed, will this make my phone less secure? Before, you had to enter a password to get into my phone. Now if someone steals my phone, can't they just boot into ClockworkMod without a password?
Most important of all, the camera: the Weapon G2x 3.0_R1 page says "LG Cam v3.0". So did I get the LG Cam v3.0 just by installing WeaponG2x? Or do I still have to flash it? (See point #2 above.)
Thanks for all the help so far.
P.S With WeaponG2x, I hope I don't have to reboot my phone at security in the airport---the last thing I need is a huge "weapon" sign...)
You don't have root yet, but since Weapon is a rooted ROM, you'll have root access for Titanium Backup and other things. You don't have to flash Weapon, but it's extra features are great. If you don't want the extra features, look up Xboarder's tweaked 2.3.3 ROM. LG Camera 3.0 works with Weapon and Xboarder's.
Also, the last part was funny

And concerning ClockworkMod and security, there's no option for passwords, unfortunately. But you still need a password to use the actual Android OS itself.

success!
After flashing WeaponG2x, I realized others had the same question of "where is the Gingerbread camera when it is listed in the WeaponG2x features?" Turns out it was removed in a later build and you have to install it yourself---in fact a link is listed on the main page.
So I installed the LG Cam V3.0 for WeaponG2x, and it works! My phone still seems to function, I didn't have to reinstall my apps, and I still get the T-Mobile WiFi calling! Whew! Half the morning just to get a new camera, but... it was worth it!
I really appreciate everyone who helped me on this thread. None of this is particularly difficult, but if one isn't involved in the rooting/ROM community, it's not entirely obvious where to start... or even what you need. Turns out I didn't even need WeaponG2x, it seems, but... I guess I'm better off, now... Thanks!

I was under the impression that I needed WeaponG2x---now that I know, I probably wouldn't have bothered my stock ROM and just used ClockworkMod to get the new camera. But now that I have WeaponG2x, can you help my buyer's remorse---what is the Xboarder, and the WeaponG2x ROM is better, right? Right? Weapon is superior because it has more features, but some people like pure stock like Xboarder's ROM, so Weapon was a good choice.

Yeah, but no joke---now every time I whip out my phone on a long flight and turn it on to listen to music (in airplane mode, of course), I'm going to have to hide it into my pocket until it boots up. Otherwise, can you imagine the commotion when the person next to me sees this huge, bright "WEAPON!!!" sign? Arg!
FYI, the LG camera that you can flash to gingerbread works great *except* that it is not Skype video chat compatible. If this has changed, someone let me know. Since I use Skype video chat with the front facing camera for work (and to see my little girl when I am away) this was a deal breaker for me. I was using Xboarder's ROM with the stock camera.
Tsugi G2x has a flashable LG camera that does work with Skype video chat. I think JBoxer's ROM may as well.

rooting
i did search and read. that's how i arrived a the point that i did. if you can't help me, why bother to respond at all. just to lord your knowledge over me? how rude and pompous!
You can't root 2.3.6 UCLB3 with SOC. In fact, it can't be rooted very easily. What I did, because I'm a noob and was afraid of going back to Froyo to get to a rooted UCLB3, was this:
I flashed back to stock UCKK1 (no data loss experienced doing this)
Rooted with unlockroot (which, strangely, no longer lists this build as rootable. Don't know why, but it worked on the second attempt for me.)
Installed CWM and did nandroid backup
Flashed the rooted UCLB3 from Dman
(I later flashed the entropy kernel 'cuz it's great! You'll see why when you boot up in the rooted UCLB3.)
That's what I did, but you ought to read through Qkster's posts on this. I used some of his Heimdalls for this - he knows what he's doing. Most people on here say that your mileage may vary - with my advice, I'd say your mileage may greatly vary!
Here is a how-to. UCLB3 can be rooted on your phone, no need to install another rom to do it. Read and re-read, this thread wasn‘t too far down from the one you made.:

Great guide jscott30. Yours along with qkster's noob guide and qbking77's videos on youtube walked this noob here through flashing my way to total Infuse Emancipation. Pretty much hassle-free, no problems or bootloops of any kind...although I did update to 2.3.6 through Kies first...what can I say...noob here Odin easily took care of that though taking me back to stock Froyo.
From there it was easy following all the instructions and tips posted on these boards. My advice to all 1st timers is read and do your research. Don't blow up your phone on a whim simply to have one that looks "cool" or does something different.
If you do run into problems the search button here and on google are quite helpful.
Peace
I am also a noob an had my son talk me through the process on the phone. I also had a rooting issue after getting 2.3.6 through Kies. I used the Odin process to gain root and then loaded CWM to be able to flash the phone easily. I am on CM7 now but am having an issue with my Bluetooth not working no. Does anyone have an answer for this problem? All I get in the BT now is static.
Thanks for the help,

My son has his working on CM7 and he says the BT works for his phone headset use at least. Mine is not. Is there a better ROM other than a stock build that I should use? Since I am not a developer and am close to being totally clueless in all of this, I guess you could say I am not even smart enough to be a good dangerous. Probably a bad dangerous however.
Thanks.

Jerry,
Yes, he also has an Infuse. I had mine upgraded to the 2.3.6 over Kies and then some of the apps, not sure which ones or how many), would not load and work without locking up the unit and causing it to go into an endless reboot loop so he helped me find the Odin unlock and reload files so that I could get ClockWork Mod to work, and then he got me to the CM7 files from Steve Morrissey's listing. Now everything works but the BT and i use that all the time when talking on the phone so it is kind of important.

audio BT is not functional on CM7. Source code issues.
If BT is a must, you'll have to try one of the native infuse roms.
idk if bt works on port...I've not tried the ports long enough to know.
Try Spartan, PharmNerd, Dev, Aeon, Midagu Eman etc...or just stock uclb3
what qk said if you need more help check out the links under qk's signiture also feel free to pm me
Out of curiosity, does anyone know if there is a possible time when the BT will be able to be working in CM7? I really like the overall build and the way it works but I really do not want to have to use a wired headset too much.
Thanks again for putting up with those of us that have so little knowledge.
From what I understand the source code for the Bluetooth drivers was never released and that is why it does not work did you get tethering working

Jerry,
With CM7 the tethering works really well on USB and while slower, it does work as a wireless hotspot as well. I really like the CM7 so I hate to go elsewhere just because of the BT issue but.... Do you know of any specific other ROMSs that behave and look similar to CM7 that have the BT and tethering working?
Thanks,
Gary

Post a screenshot of your about phone screen. If the kernel build has a mid july build date, then it is leak 1 and you can go back to GB using my script in the dev section.
Otherwise you can only run ICS based ROMs (yes you can run any ROM that is ICS based, just not GB based ones).
If you have issues it is easy to use the ICS FXZ, as we did not have that yet when leak one and two were out. Hence the issues and bricks. You MUST know which version of the phone though (ATT, Asian, or HK) To properly use an FXZ, or you have a chance to brick.
Had to break out my optimus v, and I would like to personally thank you for responding so quick. I expected to get really beat up I have been following you all for years and I know how it is horrible to be redundant here. Well my new friend it looks like I am on week 2. I do not know what to do where I should go from here but I will tell you what more stable even stock would be better even if it is a ICS leak. I don't know why they call it a leak if it came over the air does that mean AT&T in Motorola send out experimental software? the fact that I'm posting speaks to the power that this phone is an anomaly. Through the years I have never once had to post. All of my hard questions have been answered by you all in advance.

Think that's official. It's same as I have, and i fxz'd to official 4.0.4.
Going back to gingerbread is worthless. It'd be like going from Windows 7 back to xp.
We don't use bootstrap anymore, and If you have I'd fxz to stock, root it, and then install boot menu manager, or BMM. then can flash the newer stuff.
But be aware the what your on and Numa are the only fully functional and stable ones we have.

All you'll need from that last link should be the root file. Be sure to read all the available instructions/information provided a few times until you are comfortable with what you're doing and you'll be OK.

wow that is incredible. And there is a lot of love in this place. I appreciate that. My next move is to borrow my friends laptop as mine has died and get started hopefully this weekend. I will report the results. Did I say you guys were awesome? Voice love this place and I cannot wait to start my classes, I'm going to study Linux and computer technology at the local community college here. And from there who knows. Anyways thank you to you all and many like you for the inspiration I cannot wait to get my girls phone working 100 percent again.. Now to focus on the other problem I will try to read the thread and then I'll post later the screen seems possessed like it touches on its own I don't know if its a digitizer or a program problem because it seems to come and go at different times of the month. Very bizarre. Anyways thank you any tips are appreciated and I will keep you informed on this little project, and I'm going to start Searching the threads hoping I have the answer to someone else's question
