I did the ODIN one click 2.2 update a few months ago and I've been having little issues here and there and I need to go back to stock ATT 2.1 and I'll wait for 2.2. I thought Master Clear did that but it just clears all data. I've looked around the forum but I haven't seen a definitive answer and I just want to make sure I do it right. Can anybody help?
Just use odin 1 click JF6.

But if you have build # 1010 phone, use my guide to revert back to stock.

I guess I should've specified that I'm on Rogers, which is not the case, since both the stock 2.1 and 2.2 roms posted here still retain the ATT logo boot splash after they've been reflashed. Besides some direction to the ATT splash, can someone educate me on what files are NOT overwritten/replaced/fixed/etc when flashing a new rom?
The initial At&t logo is loaded from files within param.lfs

I'm kind of a noob so bear with me...but other than adding the ATT graphic to the boot cycle, what else does (I should I say, doesn't) the flashable roms here fix or change?
Ok so that worked no problem, but now trying to get the ATT update failed, I'm wondering if I'll be able to update to the 'fixed' 2.1 and eventually the 2.2 sometime in 2012 at the rate they are going.
Hello... I tried flashing from 2.1 update 1 w/root to firebird via this method...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1s3TQ3rL-U
and while i was doing it, I dropped my phone and it shut off. (back cover was off because I had just put in a different sd card, and battery came out). Now, it just boots to the firebird logo, and does nothing for like.. ever.
Can someone help me out?! this is the only phone i have
Maybe I was being stupid and doing something wrong aside from the battery coming out, but either way I'm stuck and need help. thanks
Can you get into recovery?
What rom were you running?
do you have the rom file saved to sd?
Can you get into dl mode?
Do you understand my questions?

yes, 2.1 because i failed to use my brain before hand, yes, and yes.
Phone stops at boot logo for firebird. can't get past it, but I backed up my rom before I flashed the firebird kernel

If you were running stock, you need to follow these directions to get back to stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
Are you in Canada or the US?
The return to stock process is different if you have an i896.

How to unbrick the totally bricked Captivate
Please look around or search before posting. This thread tons of info on how to recover your phone. These things are darn near impossible to break unless you drop it.
There's already a thread opened with the same topic.

Well after months of flashing every ROM under the sun, I finally managed to somehow kill my phone
I was running Andromeda 3 with great success and you may have even noticed that I recently ported a couple of themes, so that means lot's of flashing, etc.
Last night I got a wild hair up my butt and decided to try GR-11. The install went great! I used the phone last night and this morning then I started noticing a few minor bugs and decided it wasn't for me just until the GB Roms are refined.
I loaded up Odin, put in my 2.1 pit and tar and pushed them (I do have 3 button recovery). The install succeeded and rebooted......only it never powered back on!!
It's dead! No power. I had a full battery of course. I have tried every button combo possible to get it back on but no luck. It will not power on with the charger plugged in, nor after a battery pull, nor anything else that I have tried.
Guess it's off to the AT&T store and hopefully get a replacement.... It's only a few months old and was not a refurb so I should be good.

Damn, that's not nice at all.
That JTAG bring back to life thingy is just not worth the cost.
Should've opened the .tar with 7zip first and made sure BOTH or NO bootloaders where in it. Boot loaders will be in the update folder and.they are boot.bin and sbl.bin. Sounds like it only had ONE and that's why you're toast.

If you damaged/mix/screw up with the bootloaders.. You won't get ANY kind of reaction from your phone. No matter what (beside with JTAG).

I see by your sig that this happened to you also
Since it wont power on I should be able to take it to the AT&T repair facility and plead the "FIF" right? Just tell them it died while on a call? Or while I was upgrading to 2.2?

Yea it did happen to me.. Although, it was my fault as I went too fast and didn't read/understand all I was doing back then
Also +1 on the upgrading to 2.2 - it's a known issue
I just got back from the AT&T service store and they replaced my Cappy!!!! The only problem is that it is a 1012 model w/ 2.2 installed. The process to root and flash a ROM is the same as my old 1008 model right?
Not quite ... Unless you use odin first thing and flash 2.1
Otherwise go to the 3e recovery sticky and follow that after rooting with super one click.
Imo its just easier to odin to eclair, then everything will be exactly the same.

Just because thats what the sticker on the phone says doesn't mean that's what board is on it, its a refurb who knows what the actual build number is.
but there isn't a set build number that had ****ty gps that just varies from phone to phone no matter what the build date is.
EDIT: MY 100TH "THANKS"!!!!
Checked my infuse to see if update was available. To my surprise it was, started download, everything fine and then it says update failed. Now my phone is stuck trying to download update. Any suggestions?
Proof?......
Interesting, I just tried to update and it just stalled, never said up to date. It always completes and says up-to-date .. now I have to wait 24hrs to try again lol what BS!

He says proof but I just stated that my phone is stuck trying to download some update. BTW I never said it was gingerbread, since that's obviously what you thought I was referring to. The update said 8193kb and then after it downloaded that, it tried to update on a white screen and said failed. I have no reason to lie. I could care less, I just want my phone to stop force closing because that is what it has been doing for the last 30 minutes.

Most likely this was the pre-release package that was pushed some weeks ago. Sounds like the right size for it. The GB update should be about 100000kB or 100mB depending on how you wanna look at it.
Can you get into fastboot or sbf?

That's what I figured but I just came to this phone from an inspire(starting to regret) and i'm not to knowledgeable with the infuse yet. Thx btw.
I'm using ODIN right now to try to return to stock. Hopefully it works.
Update, i'm back to stock and I got rid of superuser. I may be taking the phone back. Thx for the responses.

Don't recall saying it was news. I think I was asking did anyone have a suggestion on how to get my phone outta this stuck mode/force close mode.
Ultimate unbrick.
when you ultimate unbrick you will always have a update available since you are running the previous version and a update was pushed.
so yeah ultimate unbrick then flash the community kernel if you would like giving you red CWM then just flash any other rom.
Hello everyone,
It's my first time witnessing this issue, I do have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G. So I decided to upgraded Eclairs to Gingerbread. Which I did.
Somehow I downloaded the CM7 ROM in the SGS 4G section, I have flashed it and now everytime I click "reboot system now", it's just putting me back to CWM Recovery over and over again. Now I got tired of it, so I tried flashing the SlimBean in hopes of making my device work the way they should, but it's the same result. When I cleared data, flashed the ROM and Gapps and when I click "reboot system now", It shows the boot screen but then it transferred me back to recovery. I don't really know what to do.
Urgent help needed. Thank you all.

Yes I can, also tried it with CM9, same results it shows recovery everytime. I need some help. :crying:
You say you went from Eclair (Did this phone even come with that? I thought it started with Froyo. Huh. At least, mine did.) to Gingerbread. Is the Gingerbread you started with CM7, or did you start with one that actually has normal GB bootloaders first? Because if you haven't yet, as with any major bootlooping issue, you'll want to use a proper GB one-click. If you failed to double-flash one of those to get the GB bootloaders earlier, do that ASAP. And hope hard that they come.
You are missing the boot loader if you went straight to Gingerbread. Use Heimdall One Click to flash to Gingerbread. Also click on the bootloader option as well when you flash.
