Update 10 Nov 2011-Fix for non synchronization of push mails XXKPH - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

This is for all those who have updated to gingerbread XXKPH and receiving push mail, gmail synchronization, whats app message or similar applications synchronization issues on GPRS/EDGE when the device is in sleep mode.
I have made some changes in build.prop and push mail, whats app messages are synchronized when the device is in sleep mode. To test the same my device is on EDGE and i an receiving message and push mails.
Extract build.prop from attached zip file to /sdcard
Step 1: rename orignal build.prop to build.prop.orig
Copy and paste to /system
Reboot twice
Step 2: Go to adb prompt (adb shell) and ensure you have # sign. Execute the below commands
mount -o remount rw /system/
mv /system/build.prop /system/build.prop.orig
cp /sdcard/build.prop /system/build.prop
Edit (Date: 23/09/2011):
The latest files are at below location
http://www.multiupload.com/66J2IGMX2A
The location is as per folder structure. Replace them with your original files. These are deodexed files; hence if you have odexed version, remove the odes file for the same. Odex is applicable for /system/app and you can check for /system/framework.
Once done, reboot the device. Go to setting > account and uncheck auto sync and reboot. Again go to auto sync and check auto sync. This time reboot into recovery and wipe cache. Reboot the device.
You will get TWLauncher4
Take backup of files so that of this doesnt work, you should be able to revert back. I have given these files to few testers but only recevied one feedback (not working). I have tested this and it works fine even when phone is in deep sleep (30 minutes and more)
Edit (10 Nov 2011):
Softlocker works but drains battery quickly. Here is the latest fix for non sync of mails over 2g or 3g data connection. Have tested it for 3 days. Works fine but you need to test for activity time yourself.
Go to market and install the app: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gejos.android.wakemyandroidpro
Enable this app and set the invisible wake time. Note that this app allows your device to sleep but not deep sleep; hence battery drain is bare minimum. I charged my batteru 100% in the morning and after 3 hours i have 78% battery. In this i have 30 mins of music, data sync and wifi for an hour.
4 mins work accurately for me and if i set time to 9 mins, i get notification delay of 2-3 minutes. You need to decide yourself.
Secondly open build.prop and add below two lines in the end of the file:
ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=1
pm.sleep_mode=1
This should help in conserving battery.

Ive done a quick test on gmail receiving and this fix seems to work good.
However I am still wondering why the xxkph firmware is released with this issue ?
Is this something Samsung had integrated on purpose ?
Can't imagine
Anyway, thanks for this fix .. I was looking out for this.

I had a second look .. And it's not working !
Have you tested this yourself fully ?
I think it's still not 100 % fixed ..

I have tested it and using it. Can you tell me the scenario when it is not working?

Thanks Bhaji for ur efforts to help me.God bless you.

hmm I flashed back to xxkph and I'll try this later, has everyone else who were having this problem tried it yet?

For now what ive noticed is that it only works on sleepmode for 5 minutes. When the phone is in sleepmode for longer than 5 minutes than no notification will appear.
I'm not 100 % sure that I fully completed the procedure to install this files. For what Ive seen there is now a new rom wich has this fix build in. I will try this later on this day. I will report you my findings when I have fully tested it.

Which is the new ROM?

To make this a little more transparent: As far as I can tell, jaskiratsingh made three changes in the build.prop (correct me, if I'm wrong). The lines
Code:
# ro.ril.hsxpa=1
# ro.ril.gprsclass=10
are commented out (#). I don't know, what this does. Further, the line
Code:
ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=1
has been added. This should suppress some kind of deep sleep mode (see here). I found this to actually lower the power consumption in standby on my phone - weird stuff.

I have seen the tweaked build.prop and tested that but got the issue in that too.
Try another thing: Install SetCPU and change the governor and then test. I am using performance. Kindly try the build.prop from this and let us know.

I'm on froyo now but I'm considering to go back to gingerbread and than I will try.
One question .. Do I really need to follow your complete procedure, step 1 and 2, or can I just replace the file with root explorer ?

Thanks for trying, but it keeps the same. I think I'll "upgrade" again to Froyo.

Tried all options now, but sadly, my issues with third party apps not syncing weren't solved, either.
I'm beginning to ask myself, what is different on our phones. Because a lot of people use gingerbread, but don't have any of these problems...

I can not understand this eather. It is very strange that even samsungs itself is atmitting that this phone has some limitations when it comes to firmware development.
Correct me if Im wrong, but this is what Ive heard ..

I will look into this in a day. I don't think people who use gb have noticed this issue. Consider me, I never noticed this issue until it was written in forum.
Can you overall cpu spy and check if your phone goes into deep sleep mode. Also can you add power widget and see if synchronising is enabled there cause I cannot see any option in my power widget

Yes, and yes. Phone is in deep sleep 90% of the time, and sync is enabled. Background data is activated, too.

This deep sleep disconnects the data and that's what build.prop changes had. Will update asap.

[ROM-REQ] Ultimate Galaxy S - xda community based rom

The main point of this thread is so that devs may be able to pop in and quickly see the most-requested features to include in their roms. ROMs are beginning to come out for our working recovery, however, many of the roms seemed to be more vanilla flavored. In that light, I would like to make a few requests for a Rom and hopefully get the requests of others. I will try to keep the OP update to reflect community requests:
What we would like:
- Touchwiz 3 based as well as 1 alt such as LauncherPro with the ability to
- Sprint apks as a seperate file
- Rom Manager support
- Root
- CPU undervolt as well as overclock
- Wallpapers, Ringtones, and LWP from all other Galaxy S devices pre-installed
- Add font changer like the rest of the Galaxies
- Kernel / radio optimization for better battery life w/Cortex A8 optimization
- Add whatever lagfix the epic can apply (not that it needs it, but why are T-Mobile and AT&T get over 2000 quadrant scores and epic does not??)
APKs to include:
- fully working wifi tether
- battery saving app such as Juice Defender at devs discretion
- Solid Backup app (xda member sceptor notes that he has found the inlcuded program in the Boss rom very solid link: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786993)
- Rom Manager with fully working features
- Missing Galaxy S apks included download below ripped from i9000 Galaxy S [reposted from jimbob343]:
www mediafire com/?yy3ewxomj0z
75Mb file
and the Odex files
www mediafire com/?jigr6dsopkwnogz
10.1Mb File
Most requested apks:
- FM RADIO (progress is being worked on @ sdx
- MUSIC PLAYER
- VIDEO PLAYER
- DAILY BRIEFING WIDGETS ETC
- task manager button the recent programs list and the comm manager in the notification drop down
What would be nice:
- Puzzle Lockscreen or other Galaxy S lockscreen, no vanilla please
- Theme and non -themed options
- TV-OUT re-enabled
- It would be nice to be able to edit dock /add- remove homescreens like the rest, can't there be a workaround that it can only be done in portrait? (Assuming the landscape is the issue)
- the ability to make the task manager button in the recent programs list link to a different task manager
- rapid charge like No2Chem did for tp2
- fix_permissions script
- 270 degree rotation
- an easy theming option like the new htc desire or mytouch series
- VooDoo port
This phone needs the radio fixed andd battery life issues fixed before custom roms.

Agreed! not that I use FM but my GF does and I'm trying to get her to trade in her EvO junk so I do not have to flash two separate phones gets annoying trying to keep track of whats what for what phone lol.
I can do everything except tv out
I second this. Vanilla is great, but I want to see and use TouchWiz 3.0 to its fullest power. I was disappointed when I found out that many features were removed from the Epic. Instead I ran LauncherPro in the meantime, waiting for a full touchwiz rom.
A video player shortcut is my biggest complaint.

you can do FM radio?
Oh I forgot, I hate the zoom bar in the browser.
I'm in for this. How about over/under clocking, and wifi tether built in?
+1 on this idea!!!!
My requests like most members here would be...
1. Add touchwiz music player again
2. It would be nice to be able to edit dock /add- remove homescreens like the rest, can't there be a workaround that it can only be done in portrait? (Assuming the landscape is the issue)
3. Fully working wifi tether included
4. Add font changer like the rest of the Galaxies
5. Kernel / radio optimization for better battery life
6. Add whatever lagfix the epic can apply (not that it needs it, but why are T-Mobile and AT&T get over 2000 quadrant scores and epic does not??)
7. Add fm radio if possible
..... nothing out of the ordinary, just what a Galaxy S should be but with steroids

your one of the few then i suppose.
@ kyrumo71 - WTF is that picture?!?!
Anyway, about the battery... I use two full batteries in a day. Well, 1.5 now that I have task killer running. I don't use this phone nearly as much as I used my iphone and the battery doesn't last as long. I'll charge it when needed because I love it but [email protected] it would be great if I didn't have to.
Definitely +1 on everything said in OP's post.
Yea the only issue I have is the damn charging....takes forever...actually takes longer than forever....Sammy went a little overboard on trickle charge...so if someone can make a rapid charge like No2Chem did for tp2 that would be great!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Would there be anyway to have some of the touchwiz widgets without having the touchwiz launcher running? I actually think the friendfeed widget is pretty good. I like most of the things about touchwiz except that 4 icon home dock.
But yea more importantly than that is the touchwiz enhancments in the os like the task manager button the recent programs list and the comm manager in the notification drop down. Maybe the ability to make the task manager button in the recent programs list link to a different task manager as well.
My request- a stock rom that is rooted and has a Rom Manager compatible kernel
I kinda cobbled my together by flashing koushs CWM kernel and using the one click root that is sticked- thanks in advance!!
Some kind of fix_permissions script to make porting data easier would be nice. Also, optional 270/360 degree rotation.
Tv-Out PLEASE!!
Please, Tv-out via 3.5mm headphone jack is the #1 feature I look foward to. I miss it soo much coming from the Touch Pro 2. Nobody seems to have any answers to the Tv-out possibilities. Is it possible??
I have 270 rotation with
baked snack rom

[port][rom]Simply honey 5.0rc1 for infuse

this is an i9000jvr rom ported to the vibrant updated and edited then ported to the infuse by me with huge thanks to linuxbozo's hellraiser.
this is a multilangual, multi-csc rom with a ton of honeycomb-like themeing.
it has a number of addons to customize it further found in the op in the vibrant section HERE

- A lot of build.prop tweaks!

AND A LOT MORE FROM LIGHT VERSION....INSTALL PACKAGES TO ADD OTHER APPS
changelog: to infuse version
- removed bln control (no kernel support, it was pointless)
- removed double twist (causes conflicts with other 3rd party music apps using the aosp/miui lock screen music controls, if you like it get the updated version from the market)
- commented out a lot of "tweaks" not all our kernels agree with the conservative governor, that should be up to the user especially if using alternate kernels anyway. other tweaks are already set in the kernel which runs so well that there is no reason to change any of that.
- added 99tweaks script from dynamicram but commented a lot out
- removed loopy smoothness, caused weird stuff to happen to haptic feedback
- fixed the update script that i broke [facepalm]
why did i do this when anyone can simply use hellraiser? i wanted to pull hellraiser apart to see how difficult it would be to start on my own i9000 based rom. also wanted to bring this to users that might be afraid to use hellraiser. or not think to look in the vibrant section for roms. the theming and addons are pretty cool and this rom is FAST!.
what is to come?
a heimdall one-click version (should make it easy for newbs that cant read to get around 3e recovery from any platform)
might change a few /system apps
might add the honeycomb system_server and app_server files like u.s.a.s but i doubt it will do anything notable.
i take no credit for this, it was basically copy and paste, i wont pass it off as something it's not. i do not accept donations. if you want to contribute then donate to one of the devs below.
credits for the infuse port
- hellraiser mod (linuxbozo)

try booting into recovery and clearing data, there should be no reason for the auto wipe data script not to work but i dont think it is. i may have to re write it or take it out completely.
you dont typically need to pull the battery to reboot, just hold the power button and volume bar for 10-15 seconds
Very nice running so far, no more concern than running i9000 rom with bozo

yeah haptic might be from loopy smoothness mod. just like infused 1.5.3. the lag went away after a reboot for me, but you might want to wait till tomorrow i'm cleaning up a few things. in the mean time take out that loopy smoothness script from /system/etc/init.d and tell me if it helps haptic. it may reduce smoothness on boot but i dont think it does much else.

cool thanks. for testing that. i'll take it out for now, can't really do too much playing with it till the weekends, hopefully i can modify the script to fix that at some point but i don't think it is a deal breaker if it comes out entirely.

*Get this program here , and install it on your PC, after you done that, you are ready to go, you won't have any icon in the desktop or something like that, to use it, go to the ROM and right click it, then click properties and on top click file hashes and it will load the numbers in a little box, then after done, put any of this 2 numbers i provided in the bar that will be almost at the bottom, then hit compare, if you have a green check you good to go, if not you will have to redownload the ROM and check it again. Its really needed because if you get a bad download then you will suffer issues with the ROM, also in some cases it wont even flash so you see how important is to check this numbers. nice job
let the flashing begin. thanks for your hard work melvin
Good job melvin
Looking forward to this. I love CM7 but I know your previous Beast ROM was excellent even with the Sense base. Now that you are creating a new version based off AOSP I'm sure it will give CM7 a run for it's money.
Ohhh was waiting for this one..
Why is it so big? 126MB? (or is that not big?)

lots of modding done to it. i thought the same at first, but the rom runs really smooth. dont worry about it
Love your roms Mel! Thank you for all your work.
About this one;
"...Wi-Fi Calling (process com.android.kineto) has blablabla..." pops up on first boot... left it alone for more than ten minutes.
reboot, (insanely fast boot, btw) and it pops up again.
I remove wi-fi calling because I'm one of the rare ones that does not need it, so no prob for me.
I also use Launcher Pro instead. the Beast really flies with that.
Thanks again! and keep up the excellent work!
Where can I get the fly in animstions. I really want em on my sense rom

Hey Guys - I'm new to CM7 but it seems pretty nice. Shoud I flash a recommended radio? Also - anyone Oc'ing on this Rom.

Yea this list is ridiculous but Hey! It will save you a lot of battery and useless processes from running in the background and free ram.
A Dalvik Cache Cleanup should be necessary after completion! This can be done within Titanium Backup.
------------------------------------------
Build.Prop Tweaks:
Now for my Build.Prop Tweak List! I have found tweaks from other phones to work on the infuse as well. These tweaks need to be entered within RootExplorer itself using text editor, Copying and pasting will not work and will cause your phone to bootloop. The other alternative is to use ADB to push these.
Use these tweaks at your OWN RISK! I'm not responsible if something goes wrong, I advise you to do a Backup before editing the Build.Prop incase something goes wrong.
Let's Start! Shall We Tweaks should only be used on Deodexed Roms not Odexed Roms. After adding tweaks clean cache and dalvik cache plus a reboot 2 times may be needed to get tweaks to function properly.
# Dalvik.vm.heapsize=64m
Edit the value and change 64 to 80 (This will allow better multitasking) Pandora would lag while fiddling with other apps changing it to a higher value made a huge difference in speed. An app shouldn't need a higher heapsize than 48mb to run stable but you will need a higher heapsize to simutaniously run other apps while using an extensive app such as Pandora or some other media player. The heapsize can be increased as high as 128, but 80 is my perference and works great.
# Improve touch responsiveness through Hardware Rendering (smooths out scrolling)

debug.performance.tuning=1
video.accelerate.hw=1
persist.sys.scrollingcache=2 (1 to enable, 2 to disable)
debug.egl.hw=1
debug.egl.profiler=1
# Disable Extended JNI Checks
ro.kernel.android.checkjni=0
ro.kernel.checkjni=0
# Dalvik vm tweak
dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:jit (should speed things up a bit)
# Disable Android Device Check In (saves traffic and cpu time when disabled)
ro.config.nocheckin=1
# faster scrolling
ro.max.fling_velocity=12000
# No more annoying At&t bootanimation means faster boot up time
debug.sf.nobootanimation=1
# Wireless speed increase

Use these settings to further increase battery life.
Wireless and network settings:
WiFi - Off until needed, then back off again
Bluetooth - Same as Wifi
Sound:
Audible touch tones - Off
Audible selection - Off
Screen lock sounds - Off
Haptic feedback - Off
Display settings:
Brightness - Either "Automatic" with power savings or manual at approx 30% brightness.
Auto-rotate screen - Off
Animation - Off
Screen timeout - 30 seconds or less
Power saving mode - untick
Location and security:
Use wireless networks - On
Use GPS satellites - Off until needed, then back off again
Accounts and sync:

I had most of the build prop tweaks already on my phone. Where in the hell you found some of them is beyond my searching abilities. I have over 245 apps installed and after i added to the build prop and deleted the rest of my bloatware, i am actually suprised at how quick the phone is now. Thanks again.

I have more tweaks about a half dozen altogether, once I fully test them out they'll be added to my OP. I'm also looking into some network speed tweaks as well.

@axiomkid, would you have any idea as to what app on your freeze list has anything to do with the play store? Im getting a invalid license error on a couple of live wallpapers that i have bought.

in the battery calibration area.... do we unplug at any point? or does it remain plugged in the whole time?
...should be more specific, and add that into the OP

BATTERY CALIBRATION:
We will start with a basic necessity for good battery performance. CALIBRATION.
Calibration is the process where you get your battery to hold as much charge as it can and the battery meter to display the correct reading. I think when you do this, you will be surprised how much more charge your battery takes than the phone thinks it needs.
1. Charge your phone 100% while it’s on.
2. Use root explorer, astro, or file manager of choice and go to /data/system and find batterystat.bin. Delete it.
3. Immediately power off and allow it to charge up to 100%. (This may take longer than you think)
4. Power it on, and charge it to 100%.
5. Go back to step 2 and repeat one more time]

A clarification request. It appears there is no discharge cycle included. Is that the intent?
Read This.
Entropy512 said:
None of these do ANYTHING with our battery.
Wiping battery stats does NOTHING to the fuel gauge on ANY Android device.
Doing a full discharge/recharge cycle is valid on devices with a "coulomb counter" style fuel gauge - which we do NOT have. I suggest reading the MAX17040 datasheet.
Our fuel gauge does NOT require funky recalibration cycles of any sort - the one side effect of the design that allows this is that transient events can temporarily throw off the fuel gauge. The most common example is heavy load immediately following a gauge reset - such as the exact conditions that would be observed when rebooting on low battery.
If you think your fuel gauge is inaccurate, there is one thing to do: Wait a few hours. If it IS in an inaccurate state, it will converge over time.

[ROM][UVLF4][CWM]Blaze Tweaked 1.6 UPDATE 9/13

Well I had this originally in the General section, but that was silly. This will likely get a bit more attention here
My wife got this phone, so I decided I'd tinker a bit. While this is much closer to complete - it's still a work in progress. That being said, more than enough is done to warrant it being posted.
Let me know if things work, or if any oddities come up. Also feel free to comment on how this might improve or if I've gone about anything in a not-so-smart way.
Usual rules apply - while very much stable in my experience you should be cautious whenever you flash. Make sure to wipe data/factory reset to avoid issues. Flash in CWM recovery.
This does NOT include a kernel - it's just /system, and it's based on the latest UVLF4 2.3.6 stock rom. Also - this is pretty much unthemed. There are a few minor theme-ish things going on (pulldown, dialer), but nothing major by any means.
CWM Installation instructions:
- Backup your current setup/data
- Download file and place on sdcard
- Boot into CWM recovery
- Recommended to wipe data/factory reset in CWM recovery
- Select and install the .zip you put on your sdcard

FAQ
Q: When I first boot up the phone after flashing there is no statusbar...
A: While this doesn't always happen (I actually haven't had the issue yet) - it's just a temporary thing.
A simple reboot will fix it, as will anything that activates the ticker - like connecting your phone to a PC, getting a new text message, installing an app from the play store, etc.
Q: The secure lock delay seems to not adhere to the setting I put it at... what gives?
A: In my experience this DOES work, but it works best when you let the screen time out on its own. The delay bit behaves differently when the screen turns off based on using something like the power button, typically resulting in very short delays. I happen to like this myself.
Q: It seems like I don't have root access anymore... what happened?
A: Well, for those that experienced this issue with version 1.5, my guess is it had something to do with a mismatch in su location and rooted kernel behavior, or possibly a mismatch in supersu verison and su binary. I was never able to recreate the problem, but at least one user who did have the problem said it was fixed with version 1.6.
If you are having problems and are not using the stock kernel - I heartily recommend using the kernel from erikmm's latest darknight build (build 8 as of this posting).
Q: Why are people reporting different boot animations? Did I do something wrong? How do I tell what version I'm running?
A: Tweaked comes with NO kernel - meaning it does not touch what already exists for kernel, modem, etc. Whatever you had prior to flashing is the same as what you have after flashing, meaning if the kernel you had supported custom boot animations that is what you'll see, and if it didn't you'll see the (different) stock one. As far as knowing what version you are running... I suppose I should do something about that, and I will at some future point (already know how I'll do it too...). In the meantime, just look at the changelog and see if you can do or notice some of the things the newest list describes - if not, move down the list I suppose. Not the best workaround, but I've got a plan for what to do with the next update, it'll just take a bit to implement...
Q: Why don't you mention blah blah blah in your FAQ? It would have helped me a lot!
A: My bad - PM me anything you think should be added to this that would be helpful for the general user base!
If I ever get a handle on theme work - maybe screenshots?
If this goes in to a stable release ill be sending a donation your way. This looks REALLY nice.
This looks really nice. Only issue I had was connecting data. I tried to resetting to default apn and it spun searching without any connection. Wifi connected quickly. Also had a couple of acore fc errors. Other than that, the rom looks good. Nice job so far

Thanks for the feedback - logcats would be awesome if you can get them for the acore FCs. Odd that you had data issues, as I did nothing really that would influence how data connects. I take it you were eventually able to connect?

I will get you logcats tonight after work. Was able to connect via wifi. Data never connected, just kept spinning. What's been done so far looks good

This Rom seems to have some great customization. Has anyone had a chance to test it out? I'm interested to hear if its stable enough for a daily driver?
Lol found the issue - tested it out myself and all seems well. Uploading the fix now. I will update the OP when it's done.
Stupid CSC.apk.
EDIT: Ok, all uploaded. Enjoy!
EDIT2: LOL - found two quick things I forgot, uploading take c now.
EDIT3: Ok - uploaded again. No more changes for a bit - even though I've already started up again w/ Contacts.apk and getting the various lists to play nice w/ the transparent idea...
using this rom since few hours..so far so good. will report error if any!! thanks for the rom
Edit: found an issue- titanium back up or my backup does not work.
flashed this a few hours ago, no issues to report yet, I like the status bar tweaks and the drop down scrolling toggles, I've been jumping back and forth between my jb vibrant and this blaze and I can't wait for a little google love for this one....

I tried this out last night, it was working fine, Titanium Backup worked for me, too. Then I installed setcpu and cpu sleeper then after a reboot I got no signal.

Could you define "not work"? Specifically - is it an issue of root access? I was on the fence on whether to include the 3.0.7 or the 3.1.3 variant of Superuser/su, as others across different phones have reported some issues with the newer iterations. It was a little funny for me as well, but after clearing data in SuperUser and giving it a little time everything seemed fine.

Were there any errors along with this loss of signal? As apps like setcpu are more of a kernel-dependent app - what kernel are you using? None was included in the zip, so it should be whatever you were using prior to flashing. Did you change any settings in either of the apps? Does signal return if you uninstall the apps? What if you reboot again? Are you showing no signal in About Phone > Status?
Will flash now..Will report any issues with a log

Wanted to let you know that today's build seems to work better. I have not had any issues with WIFI or data connection. Good job so far
Flashed this a couple of hours ago. Awesome job! Loving the customization. The only problem I've run into is I get a FC when trying to open lockscreen settings in TSM Parts.
thanks for sharing this.

Yep - known issue. It's because I haven't implemented everything in there yet

Quick question for you, is it a know issue with sending pics via text/MMS via WIFI? Message attempts to be sent but a message pops up stating that it will be sent when the network/service is available.

Does this happen on stock? Do you have data on while WiFi is on? I feel like you may have to have data on for that sort of thing, but that discussion was for a different phone and carrier. Do other blaze ROMs not have this issue?
I'm pretty new to the whole gsm/T-Mobile scene (and to ROM tinkering in general really) so those that are more knowledgeable feel free to chime in
