I tried both I like the Touchwiz4 on the debloated but miss apps like Buddies Now and and the feeds and updates widgets. Is there wasy to get those on the debloated >?
Or Get touchwiz 4 on bloat then i can i guess i can just get rid of the bloat i dont want.
Any suggestions

If there are things in the bloat you want, the best thing to do right now is to install the bloat and use Titanium to freeze out what you don't want.

Nitro's Eclipse GB thread has download links for removed stock apps like that in the OP, I think you just need to extract them from the .zips and put in /system/app with root explorer then install

Perhaps a silly question, I'll ask anyways. What is different about that TW4?

The easiest way, at least for me, to get an app into /system/app is to use Root Explorer to copy the apk into /system/app.
To do this:
-In Root Explorer, copy the apk file you want to put in /system/app
-Navigate to the /system/app directory
-Tap the Mount R/W button on the top right
-Tap Paste
-Scroll down to the pasted apk, long press on it and select Permissions (you'll see 9 check boxes when you do this)
-Check the Read and Write buttons for User, and only the Read boxes next to Group and Others, then tap OK (once you're done, the read/write permissions under the app name should be the same as all the other apps listed (rw-r--r--))
-Reboot.
edit: Super Manager is a free app that can do this as well

also it should be an .apk and you can mount as r/w first so it'll let you put it there

Basically all i want to do is get touchwiz 4 on the bloated verison of ep1w for seome reason beyond me for some reason nothing i do allows me to copy the file into the system app i checked permissions as well it says it copies and then i go into the system app folder press paste and nothing appears even after rebooting phone anyone have any idea at all
thanks

Ok so it says not enough space to paste the file in system/app

ok so i got TW4 on there but now when i try to use the widgets like buddies and weatherclock etc says problem with them loading hmm anyone know how to fix that actuall it says Problem loading widget

Bloated/Debloated
Ok,
This is getting a tad frustrating. I been playing around with both debloated and bloated trying to customize what I want and what I dont want. I Finally figured out how to use Root Explorer and I still can not get certain widgets to work together.
Im trying to get TW4 with the Bloated Widgets , Buddies Now, Feeds & Updates, & Weatherbug Clock. If I installed TW4 on the system/app and then try to load the Widgets they will not load properly. That is on Bloated
I tried to install the the APK's or place them in system/app on Deblaoted and that didnt work either. Is there something Im doing wrong here.
Any help advise is greatly appericated

[Q] Understaning Root Explorer

Ok I'm very new to this but I have succesfully rooted my Huawei Ascend m860 phone from Cricket with z4root. And I am using Root Explorer to get rid of the BS like Photobucket and YouTube that come preloaded and can't uninstall unless you have rooted the phone. And I have done all that and got rid of most of that crap. Now can I move files from the system/app folder to the data/app folder where all my other apps go to or do I have to do the same like I did to remove the apps that are useless to me and delete them? Cause I am going to keep a couple but would like to just move them to the data/app folder like the rest.
You can't just move application folders to the external storage (SDcard) with that method. You will break applications by moving their folders.
You will want to look into something like a2sd or app2sd. Search google and you will find something good on it. Read up and make sure it's what your looking for.

Weatherbug Clock Modification

Hey guys
I just wanted to share with you something that the wonderful CrushD made for me/us
I take no credit, all i did was request that he do it for us, and he generously did
To install:
You can use Root Explorer to rename the original SamsungWidget_WeatherClock.apk in system/apps to SamsungWidget_WeatherClock.apk.bak. Then, just copy and paste the new version into that same folder, and you are set
Without any further a-do: This weatherbug Clock modification looks the same as the default TouchWiz clock, except when you click the clock itself, it sends you to the ClockPackage (where your alarm and such are! ). if you want to go to the weatherbug app itself, either use the bottom icon on the ticker , or click the "weatherbug" text at the bottom of widget itself
http://www.mediafire.com/?xzhjx6jfasuri1b
The apk wont install for me is there something I'm doing wrong. I downloaded the apk and I start to install it through the sd card but it fails do I have to delete the stock apk?
Sent from my Rooted Space Time Continuum w/h a 2600mAh battery
Yeah, I should have put this in the thread... It won't install normally, so all you have to do is use root explorer (or even adb if you don't have that) to rename the original In system/app then copy this one in, and your set
If you need the adb commands, just ask I'll upload a quick tutorial into the original post

Just finished applying the Weatherbug Clock Modification after installing the "3.30.11 Clean Continuum DL17".
Here's what I did:
-Get "Root Explorer" and install it on your phone (cost me $ but well worth it)
-Downloaded the file from the link above to your PC.
-Attached phone to PC, copy the downloaded file to SD card on the root
-Unmount SD card from PC. Unplugged cable from phone.
-Open Root Exploreron phone;
--click Mount R/W, click system, click app, long hold on SamsungWidget_WeatherClock.apk
--click rename, add .bak extension to the file, clicked ok
--scroll back to top, click Parent Folder, click Parent Folder again
--click sdcard, long hold on SamsungWidget_WeatherClock.apk. select copy
--drill back to /system/app, and select paste
-I restarted phone just for the heck of it. Now I tap the weather icon in the ticker and PRESTO! IT WORKS.
I'm not a Dev but I can follow directions. Maybe this can help someone else also. Just wanted to do my part to help.
disclaimer: You may not have to use or pay for "Root Explorer" to make this work. You might have something else that will do the same thing. Just make sure you have R/W access and the same capabilities.
Many thanks to CrushD for modifying the .apk file and trailblazer101 for help pushing the Mod out to US.
Glad it worked for you
if anyone would've asked I would've uploaded a quick free guide to do it, but no one asked I didn't want to type up the adb commands

how to install camera.apk?
I am a forum noob trying to figure out how to install camera.apk over the existing system app. I consider myself a competent searcher/hacker but little experience with android beyond a careful root and backup. I tried hard searching the forums and web without success on how to do this. If you can help with instruction or point me to a resource I would appreciate it. Cheers
Instructions for installing apk with root explorer:
1. download apk or apks your sd card
2. navigate to file and copy or move apk or apk's
3. navigate to system/app
4. tap on r/w at the top
5. paste all apks
6. change permissions to match the other apks's in the system/app directory.
7. Reboot
Root explorer is my file manager of choose but any file manager with root access will work
X
So this is a totally off topic, sorta, question about the camera.apk...
I like the Camera on this device. Its fast, very fast but on the ROM Ultimate G2x the camera lags like no other!! But the one on CM7 is smooth and i like that one very much!
So my question is, can i replace the camera on the Ultimate ROM with the one found on the CM7 ROM even though one is running Android 2.2.2 and the other is running 2.3.[?] ?
Thank you for your time!

Buy root explorer or do it in terminal. Its worth it to buy Root Explorer, you will use it in the future.
Super Weird... But I use CM7 (Build 54 with colorized nightlies) I backed up / replaced the camera, as I dont like the CM7 one (since I cant zoom with the dam volume buttons) and applied this .apk.
Gave me a boot loop... I dunno if it was cm7 or andriod commander.
I'm pretty sure you need the lg framework for it to work
Now if only we could patch the apk so it doesnt have issues when below 15% battery. I HATE that limitation.
In that case i use "hdr camera+" app its a really good camera app only thing is doesnt have flash. But other than that is a good camera app.

Also Have Camera Problems
Hi guys my name is Natalli and I am new here so please don't attack if I posted in the wrong thread.
I believe this thread should be most appropriate.
I am working with a G2x freshly rooted as of today.
Flashed to a "P999_2.3.3_Stock_Tweaked_v1.2.2" rom that I found on this site.
So far everything is great.
MY DILEMMA:
Ever since I updated my G2x from the stock version over to Gingerbread I noticed that my awesome camera app disappeared. The one from the previous version had no shutter sound (which is a blessing) plus the settings were a lot better!
I do not like the camera layout or the position of the buttons.
I'd like to find the camera app that I had before. So would I be looking for the Froyo camera app? Or is it the LG camera??? I am confused please help.
I hate this new camera app, always have and always will.
LG camera is the one your looking for. (That was also on froyo) its ported by flaco, you can find it in the developement section. Its not a 100%, but it works just find in my opinion ( since I don't use the ffc so much)

[Q] Deleting TW Launcher from system/app?

Hi all.
I'm, currently on ICBINB kI3 1.5 which came with the default launcher Touch Wiz.
I use launcher pro plus as my default launcher.
My question is will deleting twlauncher from system/app improve performance or battery life? Or will in cause instability?
-Any help is appreciated =]
-Note: Build prop contains "ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1"
Other Stuff: Ive tried editing the rom before flashing as in replacing twlauncher.apk with launcher pro.apk and that wood not load a homescreen on boot. ive tried adding the both into the rom before flashing and that was unstable. but of course there is a pretty high chance i did this process incorrectly.
Details: gs4g/ icbinb 1.5/ ext4 on all/ uv at 1.3/
I always delete it, and I too use LPP. I haven't noticed a difference either way
i too wonder about this question. I don't think it will improve battery any if you close down the TW launcher and set the other launcher as default. If anyone have more experience please confirm or correct my reasoning.
I always delete it to using Titanium Backup. After I delete it I go into TB's More settings and clean the dalvik cache.
I've never had an issue with anything. After a reboot LP gets installed as a system app.

this is because you put the wrong apk file into system/app. remember, it is not the apk from your data folder, it is the one from the cache folder. i have done this many, many times on multiple phones and it has always worked. uninstall launcher pro, reinstall it from the market. immediately use root explorer to go to the /cache folder and copy the download.apk file. rename it to w/e and put that file in the system/app OF THE ROM ZIP FILE. then flash THAT ZIP file. should work every time. dont just put it in your system/app of the rom currently loaded on your phone. doesnt work that way

Can this be done for all apks? Like if I wanted pandora or google music as high priority system apps?
It can be done for most apps, but not all. Some apps install to more places than just data/app, so it won't work. it's trial and error, to be honest. But I guess that's half the fun, isn't it?

Jager, could you please reply with an example of what renaming a download.apk would look like.
I went into my cache folder using Root Explorer, long pressed the download.apk I have there and hit rename.
Do I literally change the name download.apk to w/e?
I'm sure this is a dumb question but I'm new to modding. I only very recently have learned enough to venture out of just flashing.
This is more than a curiosity for me. I want to learn and practice this kind of modding.
Thank you for your time and wisdom.

jerry,
i just name it whatever app it is. for example, i would rename download.apk to launcherpro.apk or to gosmspro.apk. I would, however, long press, click COPY, copy it to my "download" folder on my sd card, and then rename it. i do not MOVE the download.apk from the cache folder. i also do not rename it until i have copied it to my sd card. that just me though. i think the android system clears out the download.apk file by itself and it would be best to let it do that; as opposed to prematurely moving it and it causing errors.
After renaming the download.apk what do we do with it. Push to where?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
COPY the download.apk to any folder on your sdcard. Then rename it to whatever.apk
Copy this file to syatem/app in the new rom before you flash it.
From what ive been told this can be done from a lot of apps, but not all. So far ive tried and had good experiences with launcherpro, google music, and pandora.

A really easy way to do this as well is to use Titanium Backup.
If you currently have both TW and launcher pro on your phone... Open titanium backup and click on the middle tab up top labeled backup/restore.
Scroll down to TW launcher and select. It will give you an option to uninstall.
And launcher pro becomes your default and only launcher.
It also works to remove other system apps that you normally cannot as well.
Jiggly, while that may work, my approach does a couple of different things. It makes them true system apps, saves internal ROM and uses system ROM instead, cleans up a few things and it makes flashing a lot easier. With titanium backup, you ate not integrating the apps into the ROM. We are removing and adding things prior to flashing, causing less problems

As I stated earlier in this thread I too was using the "Titanium Backup method" and thought that my apps were System apps. That's what Titanium Backup says and they are red so they must be.
If I go into My system app folder using Super Manager I can see in my app list that they are not true System apps as Jager said. A system app looks like this in my app folder; My Account [SYS] Maps [SYS] Music [SYS] ect.
Here is what my "Titanium backup method" apps look like;
LauncherPro [SYS]Internal Only
Double Twist [SYS]Internal Only
Dolphin Browser HD [SYS]Movable
I noticed this a couple of weeks ago and that is why I was excited to see this thread. I know the method jager is describing is Superior to using TB. I'm working on "my" ROM now.
I just thought I'd throw this out there. There's nothing like a visual aid to put things into perspective.
jerry, let me know if you need help with that; or at least some pointers. i'm not raver or dsexton (krylon and drhonk goes without being said), but i still have a few tricks up my sleeve.

Removing apps from /system/app (Prime)

In older versions of prime, I used to be able to use root explorer to remove applications from /system/app, and they would disappear from the tray. Lately, when I try to delete them using root explorer, they disappear when I hit delete, but they are still in the menu, and still fully functional.
I really despise having facebook on here (they just added it to the rom), and the other bloat that came with it, but not can't seem to remove it. Anyone know how?

It appeared to work using Titanium. Does this mean it may be a root explorer bug? I guess I'll try downgrading to an older version of RE. I am not a big fan of titanium.
Tried a known working version of root explorer with no luck. I guess something changed in the rom or superuser which is preventing it from working properly.

If you remove the app from /system/app also delete the associated dalvik executable file from /data/dalvik-cache. This should kill the app.

It's ok, thanks for trying to help. Root explorer pops up a message if you try to delete something in R/O mode saying "... cannot be deleted because the file system is read-only."
It also seems to be working now, no idea why. Maybe a reboot did the trick. The files I remove from /system/app are now disappearing from the menu.
Still unsure on the boot animation though, is that still stored in /system/media/bootanimation.zip?

Yes but if you're on Prime 2.0.3, there's one in data/local
Anything bootanimation in data/local will over ride the one in system/media.
