You really should not be getting any problem in Amit's OC kernel, it works perfectly. Are you on XXKPH? Make sure everything else is ok, like root, deodex, EXT4 etc?
If you anyway want the non-OC kernel, get it from skin's thread,

UTB or SRE?

im debating between the two tools to use when i get my captivate on thursday... i know compared with the two, there is some that has features than the other.... what would u recommend and what did u use?
Sre. It has OC and a better tether option. Even better would be to use the new hybrid Rom with unhelpfuls kernel. No need to lagfix

edit: so i need to root first then do the sre?

Once you get your Captivate get Ryan's One Click lag fix and use it only to root your phone. Then you will have Super user permissions, next step would be Titanium Backup available on the market which you need root to get. Next step get ROM Manager donated version off the market and use Clockwork mod recovery through ROM manager to always perform backups before flashing new ROMs or Kernals. Yes, SRE is easy to install. The only trouble you will run into is Odin one click is for windows systems not Mac so you will probably need to have acccess to a windows based pc if you ever eff your phone and need to flash back to stock.

You should root first so that you have ROM manager and Titanium to back up before flashing SRE. One Click lag fix on the market will do this for you, but only use it for rooting not the lagfix. Tatuyama's ext4 lagfix is better imo.
Unhelpful's Kernal is included in SRE, fyi.
The new hybrid ROM still has some bugs and SRE is as good, imo.

thank you for ur response! it was very helpful! what if i use parallels and run win 7 and use SRE? if not then i guess i have to use UTB??
Nope, just an update.zip check the developers section. Super easy and no more odin needed unless you need to revert to stock first

i'm running the non overclock version of sre and the tatayuma ext4 lag fix. so far has been very stable. i'm very happy with the combo.

so odin is basically a "factory restore?" and can odin be used only on windows based computers? so once i get my captivate i can go straight into SRE?
odin is a program that will apply factory firmwares to your phone. so whether you want to restore to stock or try some of the newer leaked firmwares available, odin is the tool to use. and as far as i know it is for pc only.

thank you for clarifying. so it is only windows based? parallel's might not work? well i hope when i do run SRE, i will be good! im not really into modifying the phone heavily. just wanna run SRE cuz it sounds very promising and helps make the device run smoother.
i am currently using the non OC version of sre along with the tatayuma ext4 lagfix and i am very happy with it. everything has been very stable thus far.

can u provide me to the right place for the tatayuma ext lag fix? so why aren't u using the OC version of sre? so u applyed the tatayuma then sre and ur good?
edit: nvm i found the tatayuma... just dont know what to use!!! theres quite a few to choose from!!! how did u all manage to choose the right one???
the tatayuma works very well with sre. the order i went in was flashed to stock rom->flashed sre->installed lagfix. i didnt want to go with the oc version because i think the phone is fast enough as it is and really what is another 200mhz going to do to this phone? as for the lagfix, i went with the ext4 as it has been proven to be more stable than the ext2. for me i am more concerned with reliability over power/speed. overclocking means more heat and more power being sucked out of the battery and we all know this battery is quick to die.

[CLOSED]Voodoo Kernel for Mesmerize

Voodoo kernels for the Mesmerize can be found posted in the Fascinate forums here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=871915
Is the Mesmerize kernel in that link significantly different than the one in the Clockwork thread (page 2) in the Mesmerize forum?
is that link to the voodoo kernel good for the USCC mesmerize phones?

OK I hate to do this in this thread, but I figure since this is the Mesmerize Voodoo kernel thread..
How do I do it? I read that I have to do this in the 3 button recovery? I'm confused about that..I just flashed into the Pick-n-Pack ROM, now I want this kernel. Thanks.

Honestly, the easiest way to get into recovery is to get Quick Boot from the market. This way you can reboot, or get into recovery with a touch of the button instead of holding buttons. I use it all the time since I'm constantly reflashing things.
Once you are in recovery, just flash update.zip to get into CWM recovery. Next pick the option to install zip from sdcard, find the zip file, and install. After it finishes installing, just reboot. It will take a long time to reboot, don't worry. Just listen, it will talk you through what it is doing.

Yes, unless I have to re-root it after I've flashed a rom to it..and I don't THINK I have to..?

For some reason I had to do that, re-root the phone after I installed a ROM that is. Give it a shot and then your Quick Boot app should work.
I have this kernel installed. My question is, if I flashed a different ROM that would replace the voodoo kernel with whatever kernel the rom is using correct?

If you are going to flash anything, make sure you disable lagfix first. You can do that by either going into voodoo recovery and selecting voodoo and then disable lagfix, or you can put an empty file in the voodoo folder on your sdcard named disable_lagfix.
That said, if you are going to flash different ROM, check to see if it contains a kernel. They should say whether they do or not. I believe that all of the ROM's that are currently available for the Mesmerize are kernel free now. If it did have a kernel, then yes it would replace the one you have installed. If you are unsure and want to check for yourself, all you have to do is use 7zip or winrar and check the zip package to see if it contains a kernel folder in the first level. If not, no kernel.
Thanks. I kind of assumed all ROMS came with kernels, but that is good to know.
When Froyo is released for this phone would you have to revert back to the stock kernel or just disable the lagfix in order to update to 2.2?

More than likely, the update wouldn't recognize your phone as something it was supposed to go on, so you would need to flash back to stock. Unless of course, the 2.2 you get is a custom ROM, which could be possible depending on who gets it first.
Just a quick question, what is the benefit of going to the Voodoo Kernel?
I have rooted the phone, gone to JT's clean ROM, and used the OCLF. The phone seems amazingly fast compared to what it was stock. Part of me wants to do the Voodoo Kernel, just cause its there, but I don't know if there is any real benefit.
Thanks and sorry if this is a dumb question.

Your post helped answered my question so I'll help answer yours. I was wondering if a rom with less apps would help improve performance, reading your post I'd assume it does. Have you tried quadrant to benchark your phone before and after?
I didn't install any other ROM, just the voodoo Kernel with lagfix - and I noticed a great performance boost difference. Quadrant score was 888 before kernel and now it's 1813. I'll post my score after I change my rom as well.
After flashing this I lost my vibrate functions for calls and sms. After a reboot it was fine.

Not a dumb question at all. OCLF is not a true lagfix. EXT2 lagfixes are placebo. They do speed up the phone, granted, and you will get a benefit. But the cost is a huge chunk of your phone's drive. With voodoo, you don't use up precious space creating a buffer. It creates an EXT4 Data partion saving lots of space. If you have Titanium backup, look at your Internal Drive... mine is 1.62GB with 1.39 GB free. and my DB data is 109 MB with 98.2 MB free. I have 192 apps on my phone. When I was using OCLF I had almost no Internal Drive left. Sure my Quadrant score looked good, but my it was inflated. Now, I know I'm getting the benefit of EXT4 plus all of that extra drive space. There really is a true benefit of using voodoo over OCLF. That and you also have added features in the recovery screen.
Hope that helps answer your question.
Voodoo Kernel will work with any rom or? I still have rooted stock USCC.

Sure. It will take me a bit, but I can do the KC1 Deodexed.
are kc1 kd1 and bali the only kernels we can flash without bricking??
I flashed Bali_SGS4G and realized some issues with the sound routing to the speaker on wifi calls, so tried to revert back to original kernel using this update but it gets stuck in an endless loop after the home screen loads. When I go back to Bali it boots up fine. Any Idea ?
I think it could be because my phone is actually a T959VUVKB5. Now I need to see where I can find a stock kernel. Sorry I just got this phone and new to it.

Sadly I don't think there's a stable Gingerbread ROM yet. People are reporting issues with all the versions (kf1, kf2, kg4, kg6) currently available. I'd recommend sticking to Froyo for now, though I can't point you toward any particular ROM.

Well, I don't like sense roms, so I'm not sure how much I can help you. But give this a try: make it ext3, also make it around 1 something gb, not 2(don't know how big is yours). Also it's better to try with cwm. Yes I saw that you tried it already, but give it another try. Also you should wait a bit at beats logo, give it 10-15 minutes, If again don't work, well somebody else should say something.

SuperOneClick isn't going to help you get the version of CWM you need to flash an ICS/JB/KK ROM. I recommend you read the guide that 2 people already mentioned to you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470716
I know it's a long read, but lumin made sure that it is extremely easy to follow. One bonus is that if ANYTHING goes wrong with your phone, all you have to do is use your Heimdall One Click file to restore your phone to a working state. It's worth investing your time in learning how to use it.

@Cheony81, if you are rooted, FB is correct, and Superoneclick will not do you a bit of good, however, if you are not rooted, then you do indeed need to get root first, and you can use the file, but read Lumin's guide, and go step by step. It really is that awesome a resource. Follow it to the letter.

It was a zip file I posted there, Drive may break the file out when you click the link, but you want all of them at that link. You need to download everything into a folder on your computer. Go to File in the menu and then "download", don't download the individual files. Also be careful as many anti virus programs will strip a file out of the zip called "zergrush" it deems suspicious, it isn't. Just suggest you turn off you A/V before downloading and unzipping.

Basic with a Twist SGS4G KJ6 Kernel
BML, don't flash if you have partitions converted to MTD.
Use at your own risk, I take no responsibility for anything that may happen to your phone because of this kernel.
This kernel is for those who don't want to be on the very cutting edge (CM7) but rather want stability without sacrificing too many recent features. It is based mostly on Bryan's 0.0.2d commit that supposedly never had problems with silent reboots. I made some changes to the config to bring it even more to the standard Samsung VibrantPlus in terms of hardware settings, but at the same time to optimize it for speed. I will add only tried and true features to this kernel, the ones that other kernel developers have used successfully.
Special thanks to bhundven (Bryan), FBis251, TeamAcid.
Features
initramfs from TeamAcid, including CWM5, SuperSU, forced ext4, etc.
Usual CIFS, TUN. I didn't include FUSE, if anybody needs it let me know.
BLN. Use BLN Control app from market to activate.
Voodoo Sound so paid app is not needed. Voodoo Sound app from market is required. Once installed, enable Smart Amplifier, it's the best thing you can do to improve music listening experience with our phone.
jhash3 for faster hash calculations. Used widely across the kernel, especially in networking.
OC/UV support with extended frequency table. Added 600Mhz, 900Mhz, 1.1Ghz, 1.2 Ghz, 1.3 Ghz, 1.4 Ghz. Use SetCPU or Xan's Voltage Control to enable and control frequency and voltages. Tegrak can be used only with no-OC/UV version.

Swap support, although I don't recommend using it.
SIO and BFQ I/O schedulers in addition to noop, deadline, and cfq that we already have.

Most ROMs have either CWM or TWRP built in, so you just need to read the OPs requirements for each, and you can use various ROMs to "step up" your CWM version to get it to where you want it in order to flash JB or KK Roms.
For example, if you flash CM9 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730954 it requires you be on at least CWM version 5.0.2.7, but the ROM will upgrade you to CWM 6.0.1.2 as a result of installing.
ok cool thank you for headds up..is that rom stable and above 4.0? or do you recommend on using...sorry for all questions...is this one any good and is it stable....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2401059
