so i know my inspire 4g is branded for Att and i know they record the IMEI's, but i dont know if that rules out the option of switching to T mobile, if i can switch over to t mobile then what changes to the build prop and apns must be made, any tips?
Unlock your sim and stick a t Mobile sim in there. I assume your leaving at&t?

just considering my options, ive heard that with t mobile i will have only edge on my inspire, thanks for you replys on this topic and the other, that other guy is funny
Well, down here we never buy phones from T-Mobile as they use different bands for WCDMA, normally AT&T is the way to go, so It's quite logical that the same thing happens the other way, a AT&T phone should not be able to connect to WCDMA channels on T-Mobile. You should only get Edge...
But please, don't report your phone as lost...

Is it possible I bought a simlocked I9020A? Works fine on at&t but my tmo simcard wont work at all (no edge). I got it off craigslist but did a factory reset, so figured anythng the previously owner did should be undone.
Aren't all GSM Nexus devices unlocked by default, only difference being GSM/3G frequencies?
So why did you buy an att nexus s when you have T-Mobile?

If you're able to make calls with the tmo sim then it is already sim unlocked. Though I am not sure why you're not getting edge.
Btw, is it rooted?

yeat I thought I'd at least get edge with a Tmo sim in. I use ATT in the US, the Tmo sim is my womans and was just to test it since since we are traveling to Europe in two weeks.
It won't hurt to check your IMEI and /efs
Sorry, didn't see that it works on AT&T :/
You should get Edge at least. Guess there's something wrong somewhere else. Talk to your carrier. If you can use some features it's not simlocked at least.

I would try adding a tmo apn. Not sure if it'll work but worth a shot.

I have the same problem, but the other way around. I have an I9020T which does not seem to work at all with AT&T. I've made many phone calls to Tmobile, to AT&T, and to Samsung's tech support. I haven't found a resolution, yet. The last thing that was told to me by the AT&T tech support person this evening, was that perhaps I need a newer simcard - one that is fully compatible with this newer model of phone.
I'm also prepared for the possibility that the phone has a hardware defect, however I don't want to send it in for an RMA until I'm absolutely certain.
Samsung (after checking my IMEI) has told me that the phone is definitely sim-unlocked and usable on any carrier.
A couple helpful hints when talking to any tech support person:
Make sure that they cross check your IMEI number. They have a database, and if they can establish some facts about your phone that way, it can really expedite the process.
Also, be aware that tech support people step through flow charts with you, and they usually aren't actually very technically savvy. If you can get them started on a constructive tack - they'll find the right flow chart, and you might get a lot more help than if you simply call up and say "it doesn't work."
What do folks know about the MT4GS on the AT&T network? I used the Sensation exploit to sim unlock the phone. Got the code, entered it and it says network unlock successful but I can't get it to connect to the AT&T network once I insert the AT&T sim. I attempted to add the AT&T apn settings to the MT4GS but they won't save. I have a network unlocked MT4GS and an AT&T sim card.
Can anyone offer any advice?
Is your sim card activated? And have the proper data plan?
You need to go to the att store and have it activated and then have the towers updated.
Thats what my brother in law just told me who works at att. He said you can call them as well.
I actually have an att sim he gave me thats active, but needs to be paid, so i couldnt test it. I used it to unlock the phone.

When i had plenty of tmobile androids on att i never had to tell them, and i dont understand why they would update towers. Make sure you hit menu and select save in apn settings

I have an idea. Go to settings, wireless and network, mobile network settings, then network operators, click search and select att.

Love you all are weighing in so quickly to help me think about this problem. XDA really is the best. I've tried all the things suggested and still no luck. I just had a thought that I'd like to run by you all. The phone is 4g. Do I need a 4g sim card from AT&T? The sim card is active. It's moving from an unlocked T-Mobile Vibrant to this unlocked T-Mobile MT4GS. So I know that the sim card works and can be used in an off-network device. But I don't know much about 3g/4g and sim cards. The current plan is 3g data on AT&T.
The problem is that the MT4GS behaves as if the sim isn't even there. I can put in a Simple Mobile sim and it fires right up. I can put the AT&T sim back into the Vibrant and it works right away. So how do plans work with sim cards?
If it is a 3g plan will the MT4GS not even see the sim card?
You guys rock.
It could be. make sure the sim is in right way and it isnt badly damaged. Since simple mobile works it leads me to think the sim is having an issue of some sort.
I would try getting a new sim from att with a 4g plan, see if that works. If im not mistaken, theyre free, if you get a paid plan.

You will not get 4g on the slide, so you don't need a 4g card. Differing spectrums. Vibrant gets 3g on ATT but its the only one.

Doesnt att and t mobile use hspa+ or ++? I was under the impression tmobile leases the same nodes att uses

After you enter the new AT&T APN settings make sure you hit the menu key to actually save the APN settings. Just hitting the back button well NOT save the settings at all. I'm using the MT4GS with my AT&T account and everything works great. Although you well NOT get 4g or even 3g, you well get 2g.

Just wanted to confirm it's working here too. AT&T sim (it's a 4G sim, from my SGS2) in a sim-unlocked myTouch 4G Slide running Bulletproof 1.something. APN had to be entered manually, but I didn't have to manually tell it to use AT&T.
The issue was Cyanogenmod. I don't know why or how but once I flashed Bulletproof 1.1 it took the AT&T sim fine. I reflashed CM in order to verify and it wouldn't take the sim again. I don't know. After flashing Bulletproof 1.1, I used the Tweakker app (an app I wish could be included in every rom) to get my AT&T APN settings and everything worked from there. Thanks everyone for the troubleshooting help. I don't know why it seems to have issues with our CM rom and the AT&T sim card.
The phone is, as we all know, limited to the edge network while on AT&T. Thanks peeps.
Hey guys, I am using Simple Mobile because they have a decent unlimited everything plan but i cannot get 3g. It is odd because my phone is an unlocked T mobile version of the galaxy s1 plus. Simple Mobile uses Mobile.
At any rate, is there a comparable carrier that would give me 3g with unlimited everything?
I am in the USA btw.
Is there any chance i am doing something wrong with set up? Why would a TMobile version not get 3g with Tmobile?
One more question. My phone says TMobile but it is unlocked. I can use it with any sim card? right?
So sorry for all the questions.
Thanks for the help,
Richie

You should be getting 3G with your T-Mobile branded phone, maybe you didn't set up the proper APN's. Follow the link below and find your phone, enter the correct APN's if you havent already. Your T-Mobile phone shouldn't need to be unlocked in order to use it under Simple Mobile, but since it is unlocked, you can use it on any GSM carrier around the world. Speeds might vary depending on the frequency.
http://www.mysimplemobile.com/Support-Center-Phone-Programming.aspx
Yeah, i did that when i first got the sim. My phone doesnt have the frequency for 3g but it just seems odd because it is a t-mobile phone. I am not sure if it is a problem with simple or t-mobile.
Thanks for you reply,
Richie

Ok, I just come to Japan for university studies. So I will be staying for a long time. For your information, Japan has only CDMA networks to reduce crimes like phone stealing
I just came to Japan at 28 so there are a few things I have learnt about their wireless network. Firstly, Japanese do not use 'phones calling', they use 'data calling'. Surprisingly their network has WiMAX with unlimited data plan. So they can just online the whole day without afraid of anything. Cool... Btw, the mobile internet there (everybody in Japan use mobile internet to call and SMS, Google Map and Skype are most popular) are damn fast, rated at 76mbps with a true peak 7.5mb/sec when downloading things with a phone.
It sounds cool, but I have met some problems and I have some questions to ask.
# I have only brought my HTC Sensation to Japan and it is currently my only phone.
1. I know Evo 3d has GSM version and also CDMA version. I know this sounds stupid but is HTC Sensation Cdma capable? I expect it is a dual mode capable phones.
2. If HTC Sensation is GSM only phone, I will rent a new phone like 4S or HTC One. But... Sadly, the Japanese shocked and she said that she never see a HTC Sensation and still haven't heard about HTC One. If HTC Sensation is dual capable. I wonder is flashing the ROM will wipe out my number? See below for more information.
*Ok, I am new to Cdma and I dun really know what it is. I researched and found out that it has no sim card. Or should I say... Normally dun use sim card. Luckily I found some Japanes carriers offering CDMA SIM CARD. Now that's cool. If it has a sim card. I would just flashing the ROM then insert the card whenever I want. But if it does not have a sim card, how does my phone connect itself to the network provider? Did they just see my machine code or what? Does flashing a new ROM make my phone lose its capability to connect to the network provider?
* Even if HTC is GSM only, I hope someone can teach me if flashing a new ROM on a CDMA device do any harm.
Ariscelia*
OK,
It has been more than a week since your post, so it may be irrelevant now...
I a not sure what kind of sensation you have, but I just assumed they are all the same. At least with my phone, when I was in Japan last month I just put in my Softbank SIM and everything works OK.
There are 2 tyes of CDMA, and as long as you go with Docomo or Softbank (who use the W-CDMA) your sensation should be ok. Stay away from AU, cos it is the non-compatible other CDMA
Hey guys wondering if someone else is in the Pacific Northwest area that is on Simple Mobile with the Inspire. What I would like to know is there any better radios for the inspire that youve noticed any change in signal reception or anything than the stock radio.

search around a bit. radio is subjective, two people with the same phone and same service in the same room will get different results with radios. best thing is try a few out and see if any are better for you.
Simple mobile uses tmobile bands therefore you only will get edge speeds, try the Att go phone sim from Walmart you'll get great speeds and maybe straight talk

The one issue with GoPhone is that if the SIM has been activated in a different phone, and less than 6 months have passed since it was activated, you will likely get an IMEI locked message. This doesn't mean there is any issue with the Inspire, simply that the GoPhone SIM is locked to the IMEI of the phone it was activated in.
I use red pocket mobile. In northern cali. Runs on ATT hspa plus. Not bad no issues. T mobile doesn't offer a 3g plan. Red pocket is 50-60. Might want to look into it.

The six month policy is for unlocking the phone to other carriers. you have it backwards, my friend. If you call them and tell them that you are changing phones because the one it was activated on was damaged or non functional anymore, they will send a code to the phone to unlock the SIM. I think they can only do that for a SIM that is locked to an Android. If it was activated on a non-smart phone, you can go to any AT&T store and tell them you want to change phones and they will do it.

Not sure what you found to be incorrect in my statement. I never claimed the gophone sim couldn't be unlocked to be used in the inspire, just that it is locked by default to the phone that it is activated in. Also, though what you say is true about being able to get it changed, by default AT&T personnel don't seem to be able to diagnose the problem, when you give them the error message. A friend of mine had this issue when he tried to use a gophone sim in a nokia smartphone, and after going to the AT&T store, calling them up, etc, he asked me and I told him his SIM was probably locked to the phone it was activated in. Once he knew this, he called, and they unlocked it. However, neither the store nor customer service was able to help him, until he told them what the problem was. I also picked up the inspire I am using now for cheap, because the seller tried putting a gophone sim in it, and it came up with an "IMEI Locked" message. He assumed there was a problem with the phone, and AT&T customer service was unable to help him. Knowing the issue with GoPhone sims, I bought the phone, and have had no issues with it. So, though what you say is true, you have to know about the gophone simlock issue, in order to get it resolved.
Please post all questions in the Q & A section. Thanks! Thread moved.
