Argh! OK, so I've done numerous searches, and tried many different things, but still can't seem to solve this problem.
I'm currently running SHIFTTH3ORY 2.0, and the ROM is running great. I can't seem to download certain files though, like MP3s (off BeeMP3), but can DL others (like image files from Google).
When I try to DL the mp3, I get a "Download Unsuccessful" msg. I've tried clearing cache, reinstalling the ROM, setting preferences to allow browser downloads through Astro File Mgr, tried this method, none of it works!
I noticed in Root Explorer, I can't set the permissions for the Download folder on the SD Card...
Can someone please help!
Restart phone.
Switch it to desktop.
Or save link
You can't set permissions on the sdcard really because it's not formatted in the ext filesystem like the internal storage. It uses fat32 like most sdcards by default so you can read it on windows.
Are you trying to download them from the browser (the default browser)? Either way, explain what it does when you try to download it.
Yes, I'm trying to DL from the default browser by holding down on the link, and clicking "Save Link As". It works for other files, but not always for mp3 or zip files. I get the error msg in the status bar "Download Unsuccessful"...

Need help tethering G Tablet to Moto Droid 1
OK, I have tried everything to get this to work. I have tried TnT gapps patch in boot recovery and side loading and no go.
I have tried editing wpa_supplicant file in wifi folder both manually and with a mod that used g script as a toggler between infrastructue and ad hoc, no go.
Droid will ad hoc to Apple iPod and iPad and laptop running Windows XP with no problems, just can't figure out how to get the Droid 1 and G Tablet to ad hoc and also want it to ad hoc and connect to my router in infrastructure mode. G Tablet does connect to infrastructure router with no problem.
G Tablet and Droid 1 are both rooted. I am using Root Explorer to edit G Tablet. I am using Wireless Tether on the Droid 1. I have tried Barnacle too. Nothing works to get the two to link together.
I want to continue to use the stock UI on the G Tablet.
Here is device specs:
G Tablet: Stock UI rooted
Android OS Ver. 2.2
Tap UI Ver. 1.1-3389
Kernel Ver. 2.6.32.9-00000-10.8.2-dirty
hudson(at)tapntapsvn
Build Num. FRF91
Droid 1: Stock rooted
Android Ver. 2.2.1
Baseband Ver. C_01.43.01P
Kernel Ver. 2.6.32.9-g68eeef5
android-build(at)apa26 #1
Build Num. FRG3D
(Parenthesese around (at) in Kernel Ver. due to new user rules about links)
I have been at this for days and can't figure it out. If someone has a true step by step or can offer any help to get this going it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Brian
install the 3389 performance pack. This fixes adhoc and installs gapps.

Read this to understand standard recovery if you dont have clockwork recovery

Read this to install the right clockwork if you want to make your life easier.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
The first post of each thread explains everything. The biggest reason to flash clockwork recovery is to repartition your sdcard to avoid problems later. There are a couple of known issues with the stock TnT 3389.
The tab seems to get stuck at a low cpu speed when waking from sleep. It takes a reboot to fix this. You can flash a custom kernel to fix this.
The tab will delete your media files from your external sdcard if you don't put an empty file named ".nomedia" in whatever folder your media files are in.
Well so much for that. I installed the enhancement pack and now have zero conectivity and don't know what to fix now. At least with all of the other mods it was easy to back out of.
WTF!!! I am about ready to take it to the shop and run it through the table saw.
How do I recover it now???
P.S. I read all of those threads you posted before I posted. I tried to install the generic one before but not the enhanced one. How do I recover it???
Read the update.zip thread I linked.
Install clockwork and install the 3389 update stock rom. Wipe data/cache
If you don't want to install clockwork then download the 3389 update and the clockwork 0.8 zip.
Unzip clockwork 0.8 zip to the root of a micro sdcard
Delete the update.zip file
Open the recovery folder
Open the command file in the recovery folder
Make sure the line has "SDCARD2" and NOT "SDCARD"
You can edit it. Make sure if you do it doesn't add a .txt extension to it
Rename the 3389 update zip file to "update.zip" and place that on the root of the micro sdcard
Insert micro sdcard in the tablet
Boot the tablet holding the Power/Vol+
Hold the Vol+ until you see " Recovery key pressed"
Let it install and reboot and you should be back to stock.
Install the performance pack the same way.
If you install clockwork recovery you don't need the recovery command file to flash roms. I can't recommend strongly enough to install clockwork recovery to do this and to wipe data/cache
I think your problem has a very simple solution because I have had this problem after the wifi teather app recently updated all I had to do is go into the wifi feather app and select a channel I choose channel 11. Then I went into settings on the tablet and wifi network I pressed menu advanced and choose channel 11 also this fixed my issues hopefully it will fix yours I too use a Motorola Droid 1 and a G Tablet my tab is on vegan5.1 with pershoots latest kernal my D1running the latest bugless beast with jdlfg 1125 Kernel
I was able to install clockwork mod so far but I am still working on getting the enhancement to load. It aborts install. I will try to re download it.
Neither enhancement works. Clockwork mod works, it starts to load the fine then quits with a prompt, (bad) cannot load file. 3389 and 3452 both come up bad. I re downloaded both several times form all of the sites still hosting it. Some of the sites had the file removed.
Why is this not working? I followed it to a tee. Same procedure as installing clockwork mod. Command file is formatted correctly and directs to the proper folders and drive. (SDCARD) I also cleared the cache and did a backup.
Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help so far. It at least installed clockwork mod. I did at least figure out how to return the wifi settings to allow infrastructure to work. Every time I try to install this it skews the file and permissions. I can at least return it so it is still useable but would really like to get the ad hoc to work.
I also tried WPA, no encryption, changing channels, changing IP addresses, and just about every other setting on this.
Tablet has original OTA update from 12/25/10 then rooted.
Once clockwork is installed you no longer need the recovery/command. Make sure the 3389 performance pack is a .zip and not a .rar. If it is .rar then you need to "unrar" it.
Place it on the internal sdcard and select it in the clockwork recovery menu. Don't use Rom Manager.
None of this is working. Error comes up:
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted
I have tried to re download the files, I have just renamed them, I have pasted them into an already labeled zip folder, nither option works.
I use the manual install on CWMod so I know I am choosing the correct file andf it just says that it is bad.
Is it possible that the download file is no good? When you said to "unrar" it is that simply changing the file name or is it copying to another folder or extracting the file??? If the file is bad then I am just going in circles but if I am doing something wrong (which I don't think so) then I am missing something.
After a reboot I need to go into the wifi folder to open permissions for the wifi to connect again and then it will connect to my router but not the droid.

I dunno if this will help but i remember on my droid it never liked working with a files named update.zip in cwm.. change the name of the file and then apply it
"rar" is another file compression like zip. On windows download 7zip. It will allow you to "unrar" ie "unzip" the file. I just checked and the performance pack is a .rar file. You can't rename it to .zip. You must extract it using the unrar file extraction tool. There will be a .zip inside that that you can flash
That was it!!!! Thanks for all of your help and for replying. The 7zip did the trick. I was unaware that the zip format was different.
Very cool. Works on Droid 1 wireless tether.
if the files you are downloading are in RAR format, you cannot simply rename them to ZIP. You will need to use a WinZip, 7Zip, or some other utility to extract the update.zip file from the file you downloaded.
Once you have extracted update.zip to your PC, you can then connect your g tablet via USB and connect that way. Copy update.zip to the folder of your choice and then reboot into cwm to install the update.
Ok, the new flash works, ad hoc now works and it added the market and the stock android camera and some other things. Here is the new issue and I will just continue in this thread since one relates to the uprade of another.
After the upgrade, the internal camera will take pics an are viewable in the "gallery" but any jpg loaded into the tablet via usb or e mail are not visible. He gallery shows a blank thumbnail and opens blank file as i the image was there but no actual pkc. I saved the pic in DCIM, camera, thumbnails, andro, sdcard, etc... and the gallery will pick up all of these files but displays blank thumbnails and blank photos.
I realize that th original camera and viewer were different than the android camera and gallery. Th problem is that I want to be able to view e mailed photos and imported photos like it used to. As I said it does store and view pics taken with the internal camera but that is not of real importance here but a fix woud probably fix all of it.
Anybody have a patch or fix for that that would not undo any of the other changes? Also, a patch to usb tether a droid or other mass storage device?
Thanks in advance.
You can attach a fat32 external HD to the Gtab. The externally powered ones seem to work more consistantly.

Never mind. I figured it out. Thanks.
What file directoy do I chose? I've tried mnt/sdcard2, mnt/sdcard/extstorages, etc.
Keeps telling me it can't use it. I've rooted, used the fix_permission.zip for be able to write to the sdcard and I still can't get it to work.
** Edit:
Found out you can copy/paste through the file manager within the tab, which is a band-aid fix, would still prefer to change the actual download directory though.
I'm a HTC Desire S owner. I've problem installing APK files. It shows "There is a problem parsing the package" when trying to install apk files in ES File Explorer. It only happens when the apk files are in SDcard. It don't happen when install apk files which are located in my PC thru WiFi with ES File Explorer. It don't work with ASTRO file manager either. But I can install with AndExplorer and can install from PC (with DroidExplorer). I mostly use ES file manager and wanna install with it. I'm currently using latest version of ES file explorer. I've already checked "Allow installation of non-market apps" in setting. It did not happen with Stock ROM. Happened while using Saga3D, I don't know what I accidently did. I change to new rom 'Virtuous Quattro (ICS) and it still occur. Now I'm on Hyperion and it is still happening. Please help me.

I cannot tell you the reason for this issue, but it's well known. just download the apk on your Pc and put on Sd card then.
And Sometimes you are downloading an corrupted apk, simply download the app somewhere else.
Sent by my fingers to your head.
They say this error is likely attributed to:
1) Some strange apk not fit for the device. so, try downloading compatible apk.
2) Problems with Dalvik cache. try wiping cache & dalvik cache.
The reason for this is that the app is not downloaded completely. The download may have been interrupted on your phone due to some reason. On PC, the apps are downloaded uninterrupted, so no parsing error.

Thanks. Good to know

This occurs in case of corrupted downloads, where the file is shown as completely downloaded but actually some bits are lost while downloading. Very common when the downloading is done on the phone itself. Try downloading via PC and then transfer the apk to the sd card and you should be fine. I came across this when downloading an apk from the xda site itself (in the app development forum i think) and everytime i tried downloading on the phone, i got a parsing error... but as soon as i downloaded on PC and transferred it to phone, it installed right away!
I'm sure APK file is not corrupt. I can install with AndExplorer but not with ES File Explorer. I reinstalled ES File Explorer, but still not working.

Well then i guess you can say goodbye to ES File Explorer and stick to AndExplorer if this solves your problem!
Whatever works for you man! At least you found a workaround...I used to go crazy when i got these parsing errors!!!
Or try a different memory card. I have a Kingston micro-SD which gave me sleepless night awhile.
apk Problem
Have tried to check your Android Minimum SDK Version you have at your Program ??
Check this file and check your device
<uses-sdk
android:minSdkVersion="19"
android:targetSdkVersion="20" />
I have faced this problem with old versions , and resolved it by changing the appropriate minSdkVersion

APK installation Astro File Manager issue
For me, the APK installer in Astro File Manager doesn't work atm.
I see a brief scanning popup window but then it disappears.
Until they fix it, it's best to avoid launching APKs from Astro File manager.
If you think your APKs installs are using Astro File manager as the default app, you need to clear it.
On a Samsung Galaxy S7, I had to
1. Settings > Applications > Application manager
2. More (Reset app preferences)
3. If you have Samsung Kids Mode installed, you need to run and reconfigure it (if you don't you'll get annoying popups because Kids Mode app is now unstable until you reconfigure it)
4. Return to ES File Explorer and launch the APK (if there are still issues, continue to step 5)
5. Go back to Application Manager (i.e. repeat step 1)
6. More (drop down menu on top right) > Show system apps
7. Scroll down and locate Package Installer
8. Set as default
9. Try again

I had the same problem it was related to Package installer permissions. Gave the storage permission to package installer it worked. Mine was LG G3 with CM13 by the way.
Only a few days with my note 10.1 and I'm already out of space (internal memory) due to large game data. The same thing happened to me with the galaxy tab plus earlier this year. Back then I used folder plug and my problem was solved but it seems that in my current situation folder plug doesn't work. That's when I heard of directory bind. I gave it a try and BINGO. The setup is pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it. I would recommend it to anyone who (just like me) runs out of internal storage on their GN 10.1. You can download directory bind from here
How to:
1) Install it of course then run it
2) Menu then add new entry
3) Target (where the file/folder you want to move is). Long press and it will give you a list of directories to choose from.
4) Source [where you want to put it (somewhere in your external sd I believe)]. Use /mnt/extSdCard/ instead of the one that is there by default.
5) Save
6) Enjoy!
NB:1) The disk icon before your link should be green if not just click on it. If it's red that means something is not right, check your directories again
2) Your device has to be rooted
can't download from 4shared , do you have other place to download? and some screen shot will be good too,
thank you

Hi there,
Tried to use it with Dolphin browser, in order to change the default download directory to the external SD card. As Dolphin itself can't.
No matter what I try, it just makes my downloaded files disappear from my browser's view (ES explorer).
They actually are somewhere, as I can run them from the download-window from the Dolphin browser, but ES explorer can't even find them.
Too bad.
Would have been a nice work around.
Regards,
***EDIT***
As soon as I unbind both the directories, the files reappear. In the sdcard directory that is (not etxSdCard)...
***EDIT 2***
No matter what explorer I use.
Don't use this method. Bugs many amd last files as well.
Consider swap method by other post

That's weird i don't have such an issue with it. Did you double check your directories? I use root explorer with no issue at all (although sometimes player pro seems to show duplicates...)

Hi, I am running Stock Nougat on a Samsung Galaxy Tab A6.
I have completely deleted all files in Download, yet when I encounter an open files dialog, as per e.g. Google Docs and go to internal memory, the Download directory has every file I ever downloaded grayed out.
I have cleared all app caches, even deleted the My Files data. I have wiped the cache partition.
This is driving me nuts. Isn't My Files the Samsung file system? When I call that up, I see nothing in Download. Just when an app has an open files dialog.
Please help!
Thanks
Brian
Is it possible that you have set some auto-syncing with your cloud storage?
Not unless it is possible to do so unintentionally... but why the download directory? I suspect it is a Samsung "feature". My Moto Zplay2 works as expected - clean out download and nothing appears when you want to open a file.
But thanks, anyway!
