IMEI is ZERO'd out! :( - LG Optimus 3D

hi i was fooling around with my new lg thrill and now my imei's been zero'ed out everything seems to work fine but i don't want to use it on the network because of my sketch imei.
heres what ive tried so far:
- tried the o2x method of using telnet (hyperterminal) and using the at command but i keep getting IMEI WRITE ERROR or something along those lines.
- tried looking around for some kind of system files like sammy's nv_data.bin but i haven't found anything yet. anybody know which file/s on the lg android filesystem store the imei?
ANY IDEAS
i mean worst case scenario i'll play dumb and have att replace it, but i dont want to drive all the way over to att and make up a bs excuse. id rather fix it at home.
thanks everyone! i really screwed up and once i get this fixed up i'll make sure i have proper backups before trying stuff out.

I didn't find too ... nv_data.bin i think is just for samsung and other ... i don't know what's for lg ... try to do a hard reset ... if that doesn't work you will need to go to att

i have the phone set up exactly how i want right now so i was hoping i could repair the imei and then do a nandroid backup or something
anyone know where the imei's stored on the lg phones? i read its in lgdrm somewhere but all i see are .cer files which i can't read or make sense of with notepad, a hex editor, or sqlite 3... :?
if i can figure this out soon i'll try factory reset and if taht doesnt work then i'll try to get it replaced by att.

Backup file

Hi, I recently used the demo of Mobile Backup from pocketgear, unbeknown to me that once I tried to restore, I was ignored from my 14 day trial and told I had to fork up $20 in order to get my **** back (hard reset so all my data was gone), the file is in MBF format, and I've been trying many different ways to get my data back... They pretty much stole the data from me, the trial limitations said NOTHING about not being able to restore. Does anyone know a way to extract this mbf file and I can just restore the crap myself? I'm to the point where I just wanna pirate the damn app, restore my stuff, and never use it again... I don't wanna give my money to these crooks, I'll buy a different backup app...
On the pocketgear website it says the following
"Limitations of the Trial Version
14-day run period
PIM data may not be restored"
Sounds like a warning to me. If your willing to spend it on another backup solution why not just this one? Access sometimes can open this database file but I would make a copy or backup of it before since it does sometimes corrupt it.
I also believe that openoffice might be able to open this database, I haven't tried it myself but you can get some info here I have to warn you though, i would not know what to do once you open the file.

Sprite Backup and 'Remove Programs' List

Hey guys. Iv been searching google all night for a way to resolve this but to no avail. The most info I can find is of people missing programs from the list and the resolution there seems to be to edit the the registry at HKLM/Security/AppInstall but the programs on my list aren't in there. Here's the situation.. I backed everything up on my phone before I flashed the new leaked ATT rom on my fuze. I got it all up and running and went to restore just my contacts and text messages/email. Whenever I try to do that it also restores my remove programs list which I dont have on my phone yet. When I go to remove them from the list it tells me they arent there and asks if i want to remove from list, which I hit yes and nothing happens. Now I have tried all kinda of combinations on the restore trying to get just my contacts and they wont come over just by restoring personal databases. It seems there is also another registry key somewhere for the contacts to be restored, which I have to restore system databases for them to show up. Unfortunately this brings along my list of installed programs that arent installed yet and most likely some other stuff I dont know about. Does anyone know what I need to do to restore just my contacts/messages and nothing else? Or I would even settle for a way to get rid of the programs on that list, if theres another registry key I don't know of or some .dll file somewhere with that info stored in it. Thanks in advance.
Greg
nevermind, i just ended up backing up everything with pim and then hard resetting again.
Greg,
You did the right thing in the end. Never try to use a backup on a different rom, even if you are only trying to get contacts/messages back, it will only end in tears. PIM backup as you said, is the right way to go!

[Q] Change Device ID? - Attempting to restore back to new phone same model

My girlfriend lost her Samsung Focus and received a new one from AT&T. She was very upset that she lost all her data on the phone and I had updated her old one to Mango, so I knew there was a backup saved. However at first it wouldn't recognize the backup (different device ID) so I changed the device ID in the folder name, properties.xml, and manifest.xml files. Zune now recognizes it as a restore point for that phone but refuses to install it, giving various errors such as 'backup not valid', etc.
I am beginning to think I should give up, but I wanted to know if any of you WP7 gurus knew of a way to change the Device ID of the phone itself, perhaps in the Registry Editor? I'm an Android user so I'm familiar with rooting with those phones but WP7 is a little different. I know I'd have to use Chevron and then put a registry editor XAP on there, but I haven't had a chance to do it yet..
So, is there any way to change the device ID?
The other possible solution I was thinking of was running a WP7 emulator and changing the device ID to match the old phone and do a restore through there (if that's even possible), then changing the device ID again to match the new phone and creating a new backup, which I could then send to the new phone?
100% I saw DeviceID setting in registry (exact value as returned by API call) but can't recall where now.
Update: try to change string [HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\DeviceID]
Thanks, i'll try it next time she's over. Hopefully I don't FUBAR her phone. I did tons of search about this subject before posting and couldn't find any evidence of anyone trying to change their device ID.

Can you possibly do me a favor and use one of the DeviceID apps or something to verify that the field in that registry key matches your device's ID?
Just checked on my Samsung: DeviceID at HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\DeviceID (I've corrected registry path) is not related to the Zune's backup DeviceUrlID (it's different ID's, I think so)...
Darn. I'll have to see if there is a way to find it in there.
I'm pretty sure the ID used for the backup is stored in hardware; if it wasn't then it wouldn't survive a hard reset. Unfortunately, I think the backups are also encrypted, so unless you could somehow get the key out of the old phone it wouldn't be any good anyhow.
It would be awesome if you could find a way to move a backup between phones, but so far that hasn't been possible.

How do you get access to that string (AcitveSync DeviceID) using the API?

[Q] How to backup sms with emoji?

Hi!
I have been searching for this on Google and in the forums, and I cannot find any answers. I see that the most of the sms/mms backup apps are using .XML files, and I read that they do not support emoji and would corrupt the .xml file if I try to restore it.
I have only had to restore sms one time and that time i used go sms pro since I read that they support emoji backup even though they didnt so my 14000 sms got corrupted when I tried to restore, also tried with Titanium without anyluck or maybe I did something wrong (luckly I had nandroid backup and didnt update ROM), this time i want to make sure that this would not happen again and I want to update rom without loosing my sms. I feel there is a simple solution, but I cannot find it.
Would be nice if someone could help out a newb

This
I'd like to know toO!
Why do they have to make this so damn hard. Why can't I just drag a file from old android phone and drop it in new android phone? What is the best method to COMPLETELY backup and restore SMS/MMS on non rooted phones?
Try this app (find the latest beta from release folder) : https://github.com/jberkel/sms-backup-plus/blob/master/README.md#readme
Used for years and did several restore while changing my rom. It push the backup into a Gmail label.
From what I saw, it saves pictures. So I guess it saves also emoji.
Hope it helps.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I tired SMS Backup & Restore but for some reason when it restored them (which worked for the most part) it screwed up a bunch of the time stamps.
One year later and no good solution to my problem?
A solution I found

I know this thread was years ago, but I came across it while trying and failing to fix this issue, and after a ridiculous amount of time investigating I have a solution finally. I thought if I posted it here then others with the same problem might come across it too and it could help people.
Assuming you already have "SMS Backup and Restore" (though confusingly there are two apps in the Play Store called that, you want the one with the green icon by SyncTech Pty Ltd).
Select "Back Up Now" and send it to Dropbox (or another place, I found Dropbox the easiest). Most importantly though, click on" Advanced Options" and turn the "Emojis & special characters" slider OFF. xml doesn't understand emojis, and it will corrupt the file and cause "XML Parsing Error" when you try to open it.
There's an extra optional step to make the file easier to read (puts it in a nice table without bare code everywhere) but this website won't let me post the code because it contains two links (and because I'm a very new member, signed up just to write this). This step involves adding a file called "sms.xsl" and adding a line of code to the xml file to make it talk to the xsl file, but I can't find anywhere to download it with a quick Google search.
Let me know if anyone wants any more details.
This all worked for me very well at least, I hope it does for others.

[Q] Developing a customer rom for work

Hi,
My name is Chris, I work for a company called Mobile Genius.
We sell second hand mobile phones mainly on eBay, hoping to set up our own eCommerce site sooner rather than later. However this is not why I'm here. For a lot of issues with phones, from flashing to hard resetting a device, XDA has been great for me and really helped me out. So thanks to all the people who post here, and whoever takes the time to reply to me now.
We have a Z3X box and a piece of software called Chimera (only got Chimera 2 days ago). They save us a lot of money on unlocking devices. I've been looking into flashing all of our phones, as a lot come with passwords and data on already and they must be wiped before being sold. Does anyone know if it's possible to flash more than one phone at a time on the same computer?
Question 2:
Is there any kind of testing tool to test an Android device. For example, we must go through each device one by one, testing the speaker, ear piece speaker, microphone, buttons, touch screen, WiFi and other tests. This is a must, especially with second hand devices. We don't sell iPhones due to they seem to break easier than other phones (personal opinon, but I do have an iPhone myself ) So this would be needed for android devices only.
Question 3:
In regards to flashing devices. We are wondering whether it's possible to create your own branding, like how the networks add there branding so it is seen on the boot process and the wallpaper. How would one go in regards to adding this to each device. I was curious whether it's possible to make a file which can be flashed onto each device. For example when I use the Z3X box to change the network unlock code to 00000000 on an Ace 2 it requires me to root the device as it's unable to root the device automatically. The easiest way I found was to copy an update.zip file to the phones memory and then flash a pda file which is rooted and it then makes the device rooted) Is there a simple way I can have a pda file and flash it to the phone and it will keep the original software but just add branding with our logo? Or if anyone knows of a completely different way to do this but quickly I'd be very grateful for any advise.
If any of the above has been answered elsewhere, send me a link and call me a noob and I'll get the info from there.
Thanks
Chris

Yes, possibility exists for all three questions of yours.
Q1) You could make a wipe.bat file which wipes through adb, requires batch programming knowledge.
Or you could look under my signature. You will find an ultimate tool, it is basically a tool which can bend your Android in any way... It has wipe option factory reset
Q2)Yes, for MTK there's a built in function called engg. Mode which is used to detect errors, for other devices. Some bootloaders support factory mode. Which is also used for a complete checkup
Q3) Yes, your boot.img holds the Bootlogo (you can extract the boot.img from the tool in my signature and leave regards ) wallpaper also resides in system somewhere (forgot exact loc). And es EFS part can be reprogrammed but could be illegal (?)
HIT THANKS if you like my post
