I wanted to ask this questions in the developer forum and after searching and searching though the General and Q&A forums I can't seem to find a clear answer so here it is.
When I setup my goldcard the only microSD I had available was a 4GB and now I want to upgrade to a 16GB and I have lots of stuff on my 4GB that I really want to keep and since I made it a goldcard none of my readers can ready or copy the data from the card, which leads to my question.
How do I get everything off of my existing 4GB microSD onto my new 16GB microSD without starting from scratch?
Is there a tool out there that can read my cards so that I can copy the data to my my HDD?
I tried to use a hex editor, but realized that since the FAT of the card has been modified specifically to that card, I'm not sure where to start copying from so that I don't waste my 16GB card when I write the data to it.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

I would like to know if it is possible to create a rom, where larger apps, like the gameloft stuff or some navigation apps are installed automatically onto the external sd card?
Or do I have to wait for gingerbread? Will gingerbread solve this problem?
I am new to LG. I am coming from HTC and there is almost anything possible.
I loaded iGo satnav from the external card with a .apk file and had the data folder also on the external card. It seems to be happy to have the data on the external card. And runs without any hassle.

probably the rom doesnt support your sd card's file system. You can try formatting and removing all the partitions you have made
Hi all and thanks for reading.
I successfully unlocked and rooted my HTC Status/ChaCha (S-ON) yesterday using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452173
I'm glad I found this site because I was about to pay someone to do it. I literally just bought this phone a few days ago from eBay and sold my BlackBerry. All in all, I love it but just dislike the fact that we have to go through these steps just to make it capable of holding a few apps.
I just found out that I need to enable a2sd in order to use App2SD but first I need to partition my SD card. I currently have a 2gb sd card in my phone but don't have a card reader. So I ordered a new 8gb sd card along with the reader so I can continue with the process. My question is how do I go about installing the new sd card since the rooting and unlocking was done using my 2gb sd card? I already found the tutorial to partition the card using Mini Tool.
Please bear with me and I'm sorry if my question irritates anybody. I'm just new and ignorant when it comes to Android. I've read dozens of threads and many of them might as well be in Chinese lol.
TIA!
Just partition your new card, then copy the contents of the 2Gb card over to the main partition of the 8Gb card.
The rooting/unlocking is held within the system partition (or another internal partition) which is held within the handset, so switching out the memory card won't affect it.

Thank you so much for answering my question! I appreciate it! Cheers.
Hi all,
I've just purchased a Samsung Tab 2 7.0 P3113 due to the fact that it has an external SD Card slot. I have found that I can not move any applications to the external card. This was one of the primary reasons I purchased the device. I have been using android devices for a while and my first Sony X10, was rooted and running custom roms within the first few weeks after I purchased it. In any case, I have read a number of threads, regarding this subject for the Tab 2 but I have not been able to have an installed app be moved to the external SD Card. Most post will say you have to root the device, (which I have) and use apps such as App2SD. I have even gone as far as loading a custom ROM, but no success. My last resort is to actually partition and repackage a ROM for an external 64GB SD Card and attempt to boot off of it so I will have more space. If anyone has truly been able to move an installed app to the external SD Card could you please point me in the right direction.
I would like some help on this too. But the silence is haunting.
Found this under a compilation thread that covers the 3113's and is down further on the same page in this forum.

I hope this helps and sorry for the re-re-re editing
AFAIK (and correct me if Im wrong veterans), is a defect of the OS not hardware. ICS and JB of the GT2's do not allow it as the internal memory is already labeled as sdcard. or that seems to be the prevailing opinion so far. I would like a work around but short of flashing a custom rom and/or kernel it seems unlikely to happen. Downside to that is some things don't work all the way in some roms. Ahh for the old days of my stock+ on my incredible. wait. Im still using it from back last summer and it works fine. TY wildstang!!

Hail Link2SD !!
Only way to move Apps to ExternalSD is using Link2SD for ICS / JB. I have done lot of research and there is no other way. However Link2SD does not move the data files and hence your internal memory will still be filled up as and when you install more apps but at slower rate.
If you want to install games like NFS-MW , Asphalt etc you have to use DirectoryBind tool to move the huge data files (More than 1.5 GB) to external card.
There is a nice tutorial how to use Link2SD here on the forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919326).
You can use ext4 partition as i found ext2 and ext3 were not being recognized by Link2SD. Just a pointer.
PS: ICS and above no longer support moving apps to SD card. If i am wrong experts correct me.
root is your best bet. check this link, use the script and follow the directions. this script worked wonders. my tab thinks i have 32 gb internal and 4gb sd.

Hi, I am a very accomplished PC super-geek user who can troubleshoot/fix just about any computer problem, and I'm looking for the equivalent person in regards to the Android phone.
I just bought a (brand new) DuraForce E6810 and put a new 32GB SD card in. When I put the card in, I elected for it to be used as internal memory in order to install/run apps from it. The SD card shows up in Settings > Storage, but it does not show up in ANY of the file manager apps I'm trying to use to manipulate/move files. I figured the "internal" storage might show up as 64GB in the file manager apps (32 internal + 32 SD configured as internal), but that is not the case. The file manager apps only show the 32GB internal memory that came with the phone. Anyone have any advice? I am planning to root the phone in order to (hopefully) take advantage of the HotSpot feature as well as the FM radio chip. Any advice on these topics would be greatly appreciated, also.
Thanks!

I can't post to the thread you suggested.
Apparently due to spamming issues that have occured on this forum, members like myself who don't have enough "useful" posts are unable to start a new thread in a forum that is actually relevant to the problem that I am asking advice about.
I do thank you for trying, though. Does anyone else know how I can get the help I need?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for moving this to the Kyocera DuraForce superthread. My device is Kyocera DuraForce Pro E6810 (Verizon). I have a 32GB MicroSD card, to go along with the phone's 32GB Internal memory.
After formatting the SD card as INTERNAL memory, I connected the phone to my computer via USB and selected USB File Transfer (MTP). On my computer, it ONLY shows the SD card with 28.6GB free out of 29.2GB Total memory, and the phone's ACTUAL internal memory is not listed at all.
After reformatting the SD card as PORTABLE storage and connecting the phone to my computer, it lists the SD card with 29.7GB free of 29.7GB Total, and the Internal memory with 15.0GB free of 21.0GB.
Both the SD card and the Internal memory of the phone are 32GB total space, which should be 64GB combined. Can someone please tell me why after formatting the SD card as INTERNAL storage, I only see 29.2GB TOTAL memory on the phone, and there is NO Internal memory listed at all when connected to my computer?
So I think I have this figured out, someone please verify this for me:
Formatting the SD card as INTERNAL storage REPLACES the phone's original internal storage and DOES NOT ADD TO IT! Is this essentially correct?
im a bit late on the response sorry
but respectively, yes you are pretty much correct. although it doesnt run off of the internal FS via the sd card, that would be silly, i believe it creates a duplicate partition of the part of the internal FS that allows a specific type of apps data to be run the can normally not run externally. such as meta data and binary files which contain the "actual" code for the app and not just a users cached data. To be honest i could be wrong idk, but that is my idea of what happens in your case. ita definitely happened to ne before.
