Just spent the past 2 days taking a bunch of videos of family and stuff. I noticed the sound seems to be getting clipped and distorted. First I thought it was just the speaker on my phone, but now that I've transferred videos over to PC I can confirm the microphone clipping is pretty bad, and its not like there is shouting or anything.
This is with the OTA update on stock, 2.3.4 on TMOUS. Also using the new .MP4 format.
I don't think I noticed this with the original 2.3.3.
Anyone have any new videos since the OTA update and can confirm or deny sound clipping now in videos?
Thanks
There's always been clipping when recording video in stereo. It really sucks cause it takes away that great feature.

Audio is crappy for me on the stock camera. What I've been playing with recently is LGcamera and SO far, that has done everything I need! Doesn't have issues with the audio either (at least for me!) so it's porbably just a software problem. Hope this helps!

So I just bought my xoom a few days ago. And I love it but I notice that the audio only plays out of the left speaker? Do other people have this problem? Is it just mine?

Try playing multiple files, try YouTube. If it's the same, it's your xoom.
Have the same problem
Just notice a few days ago also that the Audio is only from my left speakers on my xoom..have tried playing files from youtube, local files and other online sites..same thing..Just want to know if that how its builded or do i take my Xoom back

Sounds like your hardware. Good reason to take it back.
I've got the same problem on my xoom wifi
Hi all,
I'm making this thread just to let everyone know, that I discovered a DRAMATIC sound improvement when recording video on MIUI 1.9.30, which is my current rom.
I've done a lot of videos of myself playing the cello lately. Until now I've been on VoidU rom and the sound of the videos was very bad. It seemed clear that the internal microphone of the Desire S is not capable of recording the loud sound of a cello being about 2 meters away from it. The result was a crackling and strongly distorted sound.
It was a very pleasant surprise to hear my today's recordings, as the sound is incomparably better then it was before. It's actually good enough for publishing on youtube. I would never imagine that this could be possible just changing software.
(Didn't test it with other roms yet.) Thanx SuperKid!

Good to hear , Will some time try MIUI,
Till then m good with Runny1.5

Any idea what exactly the changes were? were they in ROM base or in the Kernel? and more importantly can they be moved into a Sense ROM! like VoidU!!!
Yea, thanks for posing these questions for me.
Well I don't know if this is ROM or kernel. And it might be a little tricky to test, since the kernels of VoidU and MIUI aren't interchangeable, right?
What I can do is try MIUI with TIAMAT in the same conditions.
As to what happened with the sound exactly, my impression is that the MIUI ROM might somehow guard the recording process so it does not get overexcited. It sounds like it is cutting off the excess sound input and maybe even compressing it, so it fits the possibilities of the recording device.
I thing this is often used in pro. sound recording, and the device (or software) is called compressor. You can set a loudness limit and the device takes everything that exceeds that limit and makes it quieter.

Try to post some bits of the vids later so you can see the difference.

I don't know if anyone tried this, but recording a video while having your earphones plugged into your Desire S improves the audio quality as well.
Too bad there isn't any news on increasing FPS, or is there?
Hi,
Ive had my Sensation for a good while now and despite upgrading to new current roms the sound is still horribly distorted when recording video.
Has this been fixed yet and if not is it ever going to be fixed?
By the way, I have tried disabling stereo etc and it makes no real difference, its still terrible.
Thanks
Nat.
I have the same problem :/ its horrible for concerts

What rom are you on? I believe Sense 3.0 has that issue. You can use the beta 3.5 roms if you wish (but the battery sucks on that) OR use what I like which is: ICS! The recording "clipping" noises is gone (at least for me it is)
same here, surprisingly though, audio from rezound's video recording turned out really good (minus the occasional scratch/pop sounds..)
Hardware issue?
Do you have a case? I noticed the same thing and then it came to me.
Sensation actually has two microphones (for stereo recording) so when you use a case most of them dont have appropriate holes so only recording source is the mic on the bottom. Sucks I know but its better then a naked phone
Hello there fellas!
First of all, I'm not that super active member here on the boards, but I've been lurking around for a while now, this forum is a fantastic resource for smartphone users for sure! Well, the reason I am opening this thread is that I have a P920 for about 6 months now, and I ran into an issue and can't deal with it, I thought I'd ask the pros here what could be the solution for that.
The issue is that the phone's camcorder recording insanely rubbish audio while shooting a video. I like this phone because it's audio quality on the recordings were great, I've made several shots with it. But a few days ago something went wrong, and I just cannot understand what is going on.
No matter if I record a video in 720, 1080p, even in lower resolutions - the picture is just fine, but the audio is not that it used to be. It's not crystal clear, it's crackling now, crunching, and I can't even hear my own voice on the footages - making the camcorder feautre of this great device useless.
The thing is, I decided to upgrade the software on it, I've been using Froyo for a long time but I was missing the ICS features so I wanted to try and ended up with OneClickRoot and a rooted phone with CWM on it. So far, so good. No problems after the root for a few days. Than, suddenly I realized that the audio quality on the video footages I make are instanely useless - crackling. Every time. No matter what I do, it's just not that quality as it used to be.
I've followed a tutorial on how to upgrade my P920 to ICS hoping that it will solve this issue. Well, the update went okay, now I have ICS, everything works just fine except the camcorder. Same issue, crackling sound.
Funny thing is, during a phone call the audio quality is fine, using the sound recorder the audio quality is crystal clear so I am 100% sure that it's not a hardware issue.
I'll upload an example video file tomorrow here to this thread about this issue, unfortunately I can't do that right now. I can't understand what is going on, even an OS upgrade were unable to solve this problem. Again, the microphone is working fine.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts fellas, I appreciate it a lot.
Have a great day!
Have you checked if the mic hole is plugged with dirt or lint or something?
I don't have the cracking, but when I take video of loud live music (usually in a small club) the sound is pretty crummy. My buddy has another brand of Android phone and he has the same issue. It's just really loud in there...
Anyway, I have wondered if there is some sort of pocket-sized external mic. for recording better sound. I'd like to hear about it if anyone knows...
Sent from my Oldschool Hardcore LG P925 with XBSA vR3D ROM and Backside Boneless FTW
What I did now is upgraded to ICS v28b using following this tutorial.
Now I am on the "stock" ICS - without the XBSA mod. Everything is working fine, except the audio quality on my videos.
I have recorded a sample video file at my backyard. Nothing fancy, holding the phone in my hands, please download the sample and check the audio quality. The video resolution is 720p, but the audio... It's horrible.
Download video sample here.
At the very same spot, I've recorded a sample audio file using the default android voice recorder, holding the phone in my hand. The audio qualiy is crystal clear.
Download audio sample here.
I don't get it guys. This issue started on Froyo, and than I upgraded to ICS (for the first time not sure which one) and upgraded to ICS v28b this time. I flashed the baseband to a different one as well (however I'm pretty sure it has nothing to with it) but still.
Basically I've changed the complete software "backend" on my phone and the audio quality still awful on video recordings. Please compare it with your videos, you will notice the difference.
Anyways, apart from that issue everything is just working fine, even the 3D features. Please shoot your ideas on how to fix this, because it's ruined the HD video recording feature of this fantastic handset. Thank you.
PS.: forgot to mention, I tried the XBSA ROM as well, and when I was on it, the audio quality on the videos were MUCH worse. Nearly unable to hear my own voice. This is the main reason I downgraded back to stock ICS using my nandroid backup, now it's somehow better (the current video file you can download here), but still not what it used to be.
I can get The jb camera, in The camcorder options we can select the input method its The one.

Umm, excuse me, I don't really understand what you trying to say here. Could you please explain? TY
Anyone with some idea? This bug still exists, and I have no idea how to solve it. Quite annoying
Is there a seconday microphone in the handset maybe dedicated to the camcorder!? Probably...
You can select the method input mic or videocam.

There's no option for that in video camera settings. Only "ON" and "MUTE" that's it.
Does anyone else have issue with noise crackling sound when recording a video? I have determined that it is not just my phone, but my wife's phone does this as well. Also, I have read online(linked below) that others have had this issue since the Note 5 was upgraded to Nougat 7.0. I have recorded with some other camera apps(Open Camera, Cinema FV-5, ) and have had mixed results, but have found some that do not have this crackling. It seems to happen when there is a lot of bass, like at a concert. With there being a difference in apps, could it be the post processing/encoding of the video audio that is causing this?
So, I am wondering if there will be a bug fix or another update soon to the Note 5, but I am not holding my breath. I also do not want to root and custom ROM this time due to actually liking Samsung Pay

You lost me at "liking samsung pay", but I've heard some background noise that shouldn't be there yeah.
