Omg!
When I woke up today I got a notification that I have a software update to 2.3.6 (I am on stock rooted rom). I was so excited but I had to go out so I didn't update it then. Just now when I came home I decided to update it. I went to settings then I press restart and install. It counted down from 11........ And just stop? Yes, it seemed like it would reboot but nothing happened. Now it says it have the latest software (2.3.4). I tried to reboot my phone and see if I get that notification again but I didn't. I think google accidentally pushed it to me and when they realized it they canceled it. So now I am sad when typing this to you.
If there is anything to come out from this is this.... Look out for a Nexus S update to 2.3.6.
PS. The update is a really small update, 20mb, and it is just for bug fixes.

Not as simple as that certainly.
1) I started with 2.3.1. Rooted it.
2) Some time later I got the OTA update to 2.3.2. Had to re-root.
3) 2.3.3 was announced -- never got the notification.
4) 2.3.4 was announced -- didn't get the notification.
Tried manual update. This failed due to signature mismatch. Realized I had to un-root if I wanted it to work. Left it for awhile. Several months later got the notification for 2.3.4, but the update failed (as I of course expected).
Bought Titanium Backup and backed up everything. Un-rooted and installed a stock 2.3.2 followed by updates with 2.3.3 and 2.3.4. Re-rooted and restored from backup. Only thing that had to be redone were the widgets which are not saved by the backup.
Hoping 2.3.6 will be like item 2 above. Not holding by breath.

For Arabic support, use the Universal Arabic patcher (you will need a rooted deodexed ROM, not stock) check here blog.devasque.com/?page_id=11

So I did the checkin and got the update but the phone hung in recovery for an hour so I finally did a battery pull. Now I can't get the update notification again. I'm running stock rooted on I9020a. Any suggestions? Thank you

the only way to apply the update ota with a rooted device is to have a completely stock /system; and stock recovery. how i did my ota updates anyhow.
I just bought my nexus s today from att and its on 2.3.4 but won't update. Says that its up to date. Am I missing something?

Same here! I keep checking for a software update and the phone tells me my system is up to date. The new update is causing more harm than good so maybe Google pulled it off and will hopefully release it again when problems are properly fixed.

Congratulations.
I wonder if it's taking nearly a week for anyone else.
I was kind of surprised when it updated on me a while back. It's really nice though, but why not just download the .apk?
Mine is still the old green version. I have updated to 2.3.3 though. No new market pushed yet.

I have had it for some time now too. It is definitely a big change from the older version. Some people like it and others do not. I for one think it reminds me of the tiles on the Windows Phone 7.

Any ideas without having to wipe?

Probably have to flash the stock recovery image. The update is probably trying to reboot the phone into LG's recovery to flash the update. Just a guess.
I still have the issue with updating the apps installed. It shows tthat there is an update available but there is no option to update the apps. Mine says it's at version 3.0.27
still on the older green market and works fine so unless pushed out (forced upon me) I see no need to update it manually

Im running Prime 2.1 but i have a notification that an update is available. I thought the OTA service was pulled from Prime ROM which makes me think its not ICS... but what if it is?
Any way to download without installing? If I install and it is ICS I would lose root and I can't live that way.
I noticed someone else from the UK also has an update notification.

Backup, restore to a stock backup, nada, restore to first backup. Too easy.
I'm not rooted on here, but if it's like every other android device I had it takes all but 5 minutes... and if an ICS update means that much, might be worth the repeated 5 minute restores.
Just my 2 cents.

Are you on AT&T?
If you are I would not even attempt it. Otherwise it depends on which version of the Atrix2 that actually have. There are a few different ones, even just the MB865 had 3 versions and then there is the ME865.
Again if you are on AT&T and in the US, don't even think about it.
Just wait, the official ICS will be out in a few weeks. It is not all that much different from GB, I have been running the official update on my XOOM for over a month now, and it really is the same ole android that we know and love, there are are few minor tweaks, and there is some more transparent bits, but otherwise it is really not as much of a change as I had hoped for.
I am in the us and on AT&T so ill just wait the few weeks and hope ICS is delivered

I took the update last night and maintained my root. BTW I used towel root to initially root and made supersu pro enable survival mode.

Yes sir. Towel root and Supersu pro
Then that is likely why it failed.... Try removing all root changes and unroot... But root won't be as easy next time... You'll have to install a recovery.

The OP is talking about an update for the SM-T230NU. There was an update in March for your tablet model; it's build number XXU0AOC1 and it has only been released in and around Turkey. If you want, here is a link to the Odin file of the updated build, but just so you're clear, it's still KitKat (4.4.2 I believe).
Just found out there's an update for Italy too but I can't get my hands on that file...yet
I don't live in Turkey... And my girls tablets updated to this a week or so ago.

Sorry apparently my info is outdated. Just checking, the tablet you're talking about is the SM-T230, and not the SM-T230NU, correct?
And you're right, I misspoke in my last post. What I should've said is that the only firmware Odin file I am able to find is for the Turkey region, usually I can find other regions more or less right away.
No it is the nu.

I see you're still running a tab 2. That was (is) a really good device.

That's where the confusion is coming from. Even though T230 and T230NU custom roms are interchangeable, when it comes to the Samsung official updates you have to stick with your specific model number. The 2015 updates for 230 and 230NU were released at different dates because of this. A more immediate example for you: I have the T530NU and I cannot use the lollipop update released two days ago, even though it is for the T530.
A simpler way to put it: the T530NU, T330NU, and T230NU are North American models, while the T530, T330, and T230 are European models. As such they are updated separately.

I do not have a tab 2, was that directed at someone else?
I'm sorry, I'm running on 2 hours sleep.... Just ignore me.
