[Q] can this nexus be purchased? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have a nexus that i thought i had completely bricked. Soo i got a new one. The old has been deactivated by sprint, but is in complete working order. is there a way that someone could buy it and use it for their phone? or is it unusable?

I think they could flash it to boost mobile
But if it is possible to un brick it thru might be able to use it on sprint
That's if its a 4g
if its a normal one they should be able to use it on any carrier

By complete working order you mean it's not bricked anymore? and if you deactivated the phone and it's working then you can sell it, and it is possible for someone else to activate it.

If Sprint replaced it I'm sure they flagged the Imei or Esn or whatever. It would have to be flashed to another carrier like Boost or Virgin.

I'm looking for a new phone and att has nothing that is worth buying right now. Will I be able to make calls on a nexus s with my att sim in it. I mostly run my phone on wifi but when I'm out I just want a descent phone.
Thanks

It has to be approved by the FCC/DOJ/etc. I seriously doubt it'll get approved. Sprint is fighting this. And no, it wouldn't be a stupid idea. It's a good phone, people are over exaggerating about this purchase.
The other alternative if I was to make a phone purchase would be the G2x probably but that phone isn't unlocked so... Nexus S is purely unlocked from the beginning including ability to unlock the bootloader.

There are checkins to the aosp repo that reference an at&t radio (kb2) for the crespo (ns), so there is hope if you have the patience to see if it becomes a reality.

An ATT version is coming very soon from solid rumors, so you really should just wait a few weeks to get the proper working version if it comes out.

Bad esn# Samsung Epic 4G

Ok friend lost his HTC epic 4G and got new one from insurance and now he's found the lost phone and is trying to sell it to me. I know it will not be able to connect to sprint due to a bad ESN # but can it be used on a different carrier?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
lmao well while that sounds like obvious fraud if that is what really happened then I would have him bring the phone to Sprint and they can clear the ESN for use again. I would advise against "flashing" the phone to a different service.

Ok well thanx for the advice but I don't want Sprint service. The question is can I flash to cricket and use if the esn is bad for sprint?

[Q] Good/easy phone to port to MetroPCS

My friend has the Wildfire, which is nice, but 3.2" screen sucks. I need to get him a good phone. So I'm going to buy him one, but which is a good phone to start with and easy to port. I saw the sprint nexus and it looked a little difficult. The evo was a little easier. But im open to any carrier or phone, anyone have good experiences?
I am also interested in porting my phone to metro... I have TMobile gs2 not sure its possible since I have sim tech.

It won't be possible with GSM devices. Only CDMA can be flashed to Metro. Try Simple mobile if you want GSM

[Q] HTC One X can't find network on T-Mobile

Okay so I bought a AT&T htc one x. I rooted the phone. Unlocked the boot loader. Now on rebel rom. I put my tmobile SIM card in the phone and it gives me no reception. At all. And says no service. I went to the settings and mobile data, than did network operators. Did select automatically. And says "unable to connect to network at this time, please try again." So than I did search networks. All it pulls up is AT&T and US. So I got curious and tried us and it had no positive return. Now I need help as I seriously just got this phone yesterday and it sucks its just sitting here now. And no I have no phone. Any help would be appreciated.
did you SIM unlock it?
I SIM unlocked mine, and got no reception, but I didn't have a chance to change APNs and such.

Yeah I bought the sim unlock code prior to rooting with success on stock sense but still never had reception.
Update: I disassembled the phone to check the cables to see if any were loose or damaged and to find out that ALL antenna cables are in tact in good shape, connected perfectly and everything, so I know that this is a issue within the software of the phone. I did use an unlock code on the stock os and when I didn't get reception than is when I rooted the phone with still no change. Any help is appreciated thank you!
You still haven't mentioned if you changed your APN settings.
Same thing happened with me last night, but on an iPhone. Just won't get service no matter what SIM I put in.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I did have the apns how they're suppose to be. And I put my sim back in my iPhone and it works fine. Its just every time I put my sim in this phone it will not work. Still really confused because hardware is fine.

What this person said....you have to change apn settings, also did you trim your tmoblie SIM card down to make it fit? Technically if apn if changed and you have a working tmobile SIM it shouldn't be possible to pick up att. Also did you try using it it case icons are saying att but signal is tmobile. You should be able to check what band you are on to verify.....good luck on your quest

Craigslist..? Got an att sim to check out? Maybe a quick call to at&t to verify the imei is not blacklisted if you haven't already

Yes. It was blacklisted sadly. This is why I hate craigslist. I got ripped off. Now I understand why it was so cheap compared to the other ones. I guess it was kinda my fault. Thanks guys for all your suggestions.

It really wasn't what I was hoping. But it sucks they do that but they do what they gotta do. I'm just sol on this phone. Taking a $200 loss. But I think I may just part the phone out considering the screen is brand new and the parts are pricey now days. Well. Not to sure what I'm gonna do with it yet actually. But hopefully something beneficial.

This has been answered about 4 times this week alone. All Nexus 5's are unlocked! Your Nexus 5 is the same D820 model that the Google Play Store sell. T-Mobile has not made any modifications to it. No carrier bloatware, it's not carrier locked, no T-Mobile WiFi calling installed, etc.
It's 100% unlocked and 100% the same as the one on the Play Store! Pure Google!

The boot loader is actually locked. Unlocking it is the same as the Play Store model/version. Or if you just want root look for CF-Autoroot.

don't use chainfire to root your phone follow the sticky in general.
There is no physical/software difference between the two. The only thing special about it is that your phone is flagged as a T-Mobile device since T-Mobile knows your serial number (or some other identification number). AFAIK, this allows you to download the t-mobile voicemail app from the play store.

So if I get the device off Google play website I won't be able to use my T-Mobile insurance if something goes wrong with the device? I would save $50 if purchased from google

I believe you will still be able to utilize T-Mobile's insurance. Its not like its an At&t or Sprint specific phone then it would be understandable why T-Mobile won't cover it. T-Mobile sells the very same phone as the one on the Play Store so it shouldn't be an issue.
Note: If you do decide to buy the Nexus 5 from the Play Store then you'll be covered under a manufacturers warranty. Its not exactly the same as T-Mobile's insurance but it will cover any software and/or hardware defects (minus a cracked screen or water damage).

I don't think you can get the insurance if you didn't purchase it from them. I have T-Mobile and I wasn't given that option.

In the past, when I was with T-Mobile I used to always get phones off of Craigslist and I would sometimes send them to T-Mobile for a warranty exchange. As far as I know the insurance is transferable from device to device. Of course it won't be if you have an At&t branded device but if T-Mobile has the device in their lineup then I don't see why they wouldn't honor it and give you another one if you pay monthly for their insurance service.
sent from my neXus 5
That's correct, the insurance is attached to the line, not the phone.
