Can we have a Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 forum please? - General Questions and Answers

Can we have a separate section for this phone? Everything is scattered all over XDA... And I would like to start sorting out some things and start developing myself. But I cannot and I won't start if we don't have the right forums.
Is this request possible? I know it is hard to support all devices. But at least every device or Android smartphone deserves a chance in my opinion.
Thank you XDA.

Hi guys , new to the forum so sorry if this is a noob question....
I have not rooted my galaxy but I have installed a beta version of ice cream sandwich , however I don't like it and would like to restore my phone to its original setting on gingerbread but not sure how to , I've got my original kernel which is XWKE2 but now stumped what to do next , I've searched through the site , but to be honest I don't know what I'm looking for...
Can someone point me in the right direction...
If it helps I'm on the O2 network in the uk

I assume you've got the i9100 model.
The first thing you want to do, is get to the correct forum. General discussion isn't going to be much help for a model-specific question.
The thread you're looking for can be found here.
If you want more information, try searching google for 'samsung galaxy s2 how to return to stock'... or check the 'stickies' in the parent forum to the thread above (stickies = useful threads that have been bookmarked by mods which will always appear at the top of the list of threads in a forum).
The stickies are marked sticky, because they're the FAQs of the forums. I actually have better things to do than hold your hand and guide you through the process. Sorry if I sound like a ****, I really hope this helped, but you've gotta read and research the topic like the rest of us.
what you need to do is flash a stock from back on your device and optionally a rooting kernel ( if you want it rooted of course. if not you can just skip this part).
there's a dedicated thread for this although I'm unsure as to which sub forum it lies. look for 'carrier-branded firmware for odin' and pick the one for o2.
Wrong forum...
Have you tried doing a factory reset? Usually fixes things like this.

The WebOS part of XDA is kind of dead, but I'll give this a go:
What's the best way to go about working on porting Open WebOS to my phone? I have a Galaxy Nexus, which already has an alpha, but I'd like to work on it, I don't trust random people who update their site whenever to making this happen, though appreciation to them if they do... My point is, I want to take matters into my own hands, I'm not new to programming languages, I just don't know how to dissect the WebOS files... For example, the Galaxy Nexus boots WebOS via an .ext2 file on the emulated SD card triggered by a .fastboot file that is flashed in Fastboot as the boot image... But I'm not sure which files do what and things of that nature. I'm not even sure how to open an edit a .fastboot file.
Any info would be great, hopefully you won't just tell me to go to the Galaxy Nexus forums, all they do is argue when the next version of Android will come out and whether or not the Nexus 4 is better than the Galaxy Nexus... I'm not even kidding.

[Completed] what specifics per device are needed to "match" roms to attempt a port

I'm pretty new at all this buy the basics of installing already made roms I get my question is when attempting to create new custom roms what information about the device say (cpu, gpu, modem, kernal, etc) need to match up to attempt using or moding those said parts of the dev process in order to build a working tree. Continued below Sidenote........
Sidenote : idk if the terms I used were correct in there placement or meaning but I feel that any who will reply to this thread probably grasp what I'm getting at.
So essentially what I'm attempting to do is figure out what things to change and how to change them in order to figure out what goes into building a rom or the favorable option that I'm shooting for is what to look for to attempt to match up a already built custom rom from another device I need little to no changes in order to use on my device's, reason being, both devices I am currently woking on, which are a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime sm-g360t and a HTC Desire 626s, do not have a official or even, to my knowledge, have an official CM and honestly besides one,the HTC which I have TWRP and it's running now off the AdvancedStock rom I found on this site and it keeps wanting to break or just doesn't work the way I want .
ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED

Android Update for Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 - Suggestions and How-to

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this platform and to be honest a bit overwhelmed. Apologize if this thread is in the wrong section.
I should also mention that I'm not too familiar with technical points.
I own an old Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (P5110) which claims its Android version 4.2.2 is still the most recent one for this device.
So I'm looking for a way to update to a newer versuon, at least Android 6.
My first question is which Android version you suggest?
Second one, how exactly do I do this (is there a step by step tutorial)?
Third one what are the risks? I read something about data loss and completely broken devices?
Thank you in advance.

Mate, I'm on the same boat. Same tablet, also overwhelmed The only response to your post points to some custom ROM page but the instructions are not detailed. I thought I had to throw my tablet but it seems like it still has some life to breath if I can get it a newer ROM (many apps are not supported anymore with Android 4.2).
I think the first thing to do is root the device but where to start? I'd prefer using linux with adb, etc.
There is a lot of stuff here. Is there anyone that has taken the time to write a detailed step by step guide somewhere?
BTW, my intention is not only to revive the device but to ditch all Google crap apps. In an ideal world, I would have installed a ROM from /e/ Foundation, but they do not support the device so I guess my next best bet is some custom ROM that uses LineageOS?
Hi,
First you need to root your device and install TWRP recovery:
More info here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...final-root-single-step-twrp-recovery-t3404779
It's an old thread but you'll get the idea.
See this one as well:
https://www.getdroidtips.com/twrp-recovery-samsung-galaxy-tab-2/
You'll need to find the correct version for your model otherwise you'll and up with a nice paperweight.
After this, you'll be able to back up your current ROM and install new ones. Unfortunately, I have a different model of Tab 2 that has no available custom ROM's so I can't say which ROM is better than other. I would read more in the link provided for slim roms.
To get rid of the installed bloatware and even Google apps I used SD Maid. See my thread below with what's left on my tablet (Disclaimer: it's a barebone setup and not all things work so I don't advise going that deep unless you're willing to take the risk of having a bricked tablet. You were warned!):

Forgive me, but I don't know where to start on this forum. I can't post to the Samsung area, because the policies prohibit me from doing so. I just found out that I had originally posted to the new development area, and so I am re-posting. Sorry!
I have an old Galaxy S3 Sprint phone SPH-L710 that is running android 4.4.2 . I'd like to upgrade it to something more useful. The first thing I tried was to load an app called TEXTNOW but it requires at least android 5.0 . Apparently Sprint stopped upgrading android, as I can't find any android above 4.4.2 .
Can anyone point me to an android update to 5.0 or better? If not, can you suggest a custom rom that would be useful for this phone? Since it's an old clunker, I don't mind taking a chance that Odin might brick it. Right now, it pretty much sits on the shelf gathering dust. If I could get 5.0 or perhaps some custom rom, I might be able to load some useful apps.
Thank you in advance for your time and efforts in replying to this post.
