[Q] so im getting an infuse and have a few questions - Samsung Infuse 4G

anyways im getting an infuse pretty soon(2 -3 days), coming from a samsung captivate.
anyways what im wondering is, is this phone pretty safe to flash? (how high are bricking odds)
is there an easy way to flash back to stock in case i have to warranty replace the phone?
any pretty much stock gb rom?

Next to impossible to hardbrick. Bootloaders are fairly well protected from damage.

Insanely hard to permanently brick.
Pretty sure you can go back to stock if you need to.
Infused is close enough to stock GB for me.

My experiences are just the opposite in terms of GPS. It's flaky and inconsistent and drops lock all the time in Froyo, it's fairly consistent without any fixes or tweaks in every GB ROM I've tried.
Only issue is that it seems that for the first 5-10 minutes after locking there will sometimes be an offset in the position fix. It was much worse in Froyo. My guess is that the AGPS system is truncating the precision of some of the satellite orbit info, causing position error until the real ephemerides come down from the sat.

yeah i doubt itd be worse then the captivate considering lol. it would pretty much refuse o lock gps at all stock, with roms it varied greatly, at best it would lock decently.

Tyshemi, I tried your fix and it didn't work for me. However, I did find another method that worked for me.

No matter what I've done that's the only fix that helped me. You do have to let it lock, and make sure you change the settings and accuracy...etc.....

Just posted my fix in the General section. The only thing that worked for me.
From XDA App on Infused v2.1.0 OCed to 1.6 GHz

I also came from a Captivate that I dropped and broke the screen.
Compared to that, the GPS is awesome. Takes about two or three seconds for me to get a 25m lock.
I'm running Infused 2.1.0.
Why get an Infuse now? The Galaxy S2 is only 1-2 weeks away; I'm returning my Infuse for the GS2 (id the price is the same). Even if you don't want the GS2, the Infuse price MAY drop when the GS2 is out.

Wow. What a difference.

I really just wanted to make a thread because I cannot believe how much more I can get out of this device than my previous. I had an Epic 4G previous to this and switched back to tmobile because I got back on a family plan to save me some money. I was expecting to not get as great of device with the mytouch but I liked the price and that it was 4G. After rooting it flashing CM7 and the new kernel. Holy crap my Epic4G is garbage.
I just jumped back into the development thread and they finally have an OC kernel for 2.2 and they are pulling 16's in linpack and 1150+ in quadrant at 1.2gHz....I put my CM7 at 1.2 and I pulled 37.8 in Linpack and 1890 in quadrant . When I bump it up to 1.8gHz I pull 63.5 in linpack and in pull 3048 in quadrant.
I'm just stunned at how well this device has performed in the few days I have had it!
Oh and I forgot to mention that my battery life is WAYYYYY better. Haven't had to plug my phone in all day and ive been using facebook and texting all day. 12 hours and 40% battery still left! WOOT!
Welcome. I'm also a Galaxy S converter and have never looked back. This phone will definitely hold me over until a good 4.3" one comes out on tmobile.
Agreed. I liked the Vibrant but look at how hard of a time they're having just getting CM on it. While every thing can be ported to the MT4G such as CM, sense, and even MIUI. I know dual cores are right around the corner but I can honestly say that this phone will last me the full 2 years of the contract. Everything is blazing as it is, don't need to spend hundreds on a dual core when I won't even notice the speed increase.

FYI, I get higher linpack with my stock, non-overclocked MT4G than you do with CM7 and Higher quadrant than your CM7 at 1.2, And I'm stock, no overclock. But at 1.8, You win... so IMO CM7 is worthless, unless you just want that gingerbred looking jazz and don't like sense.
I got my gf a Captivate shortly after I got my MT4G and I felt a little embarrassed once the difference in quality became apparent. We still talk about her getting her an MT4G of her own when her contract with AT&T is finally up in like 9 months.
The pretty AMOLED screens are battery murderers.

Well what did you expect? thats why they call it stock as it has so much BS bolts its not even funny, IDK why you didn't just try IG. Thats the beauty of CM7RC1(ASOP2.3.2) as its modified for performance and power consumption with nice balance. Don't let the synthetic score get to your head as it means nothing and no way does it translate in to real world performance. Soon as I got MT4G in hours I rooted and put IG on it as CM7(GB) NB came out from Alpha most of us switched to the darkside no need to look back.

Besides, I only said it because there is NO WAY stock non-o/c'd MySense can perform better than CM7 at 1.2ghz. Either in real world performance or some arbitrary benchmark figure. Just not happening. Unless of course you mean the awesomeness that is FRIEND STREAM. CM7 got nothin' on that goodness.

Ya I am a big hypocrite thats why I gave the warning. But far as your first comment goes I was just saying if you guys start it ill just simply end it just go look around for my SS as my power, memory is 3x more efficient then what you are using. For the second part I myself can't verify this as I only had stock rom for less than 1 hour before I got rid of that POS. If he says he got it then let him what diff does it make? If you call a cow a goat not it don't make it a goat now does it?

What kernel are you using with CM7? I just use the one that came with the stable version? Where can I find this kernel you are so happy with???

Stock my best bet?

so sup guys. I'm getting my charge tomorrow as a replacement for this fascinate which I loved especially the devs. But seeing all these problems with the roms I'm guessing staying stock might be my best guess. If any of you have had problems that make a rom unusable or haven't had any problems at all I would love to hear from you

I tell you its so easy to flash back to start it would be worth it to flash a rom period. Now that said I am on Humble 1.4 from with voodoo kernel, and there is no problems at at. Everything in this rom is butter smooth. I wouldn't worry about what people say about different roms. If you listen to what everyone says, then you might be scared of everything.
Enjoy the phone
I came from the Fassy as well I received my Charge today. Its as easy to root as the Fassy and I have had no problems with the humble Rom yet.
They do have the odin to get back to stock, but its all your comfort level.
Also you will see some familiar faces in the development forum here.
Sent from my Humble Charge.
I rooted my Charge with the Humble Odin package within 24 hours of getting it. I haven't had a problem yet and am undeniably pleased with the performance of my phone.
All the issues I've had have been operator error when trying to upgrade to newer versions (which was twice, and I swear I'm going to remember to disable voodoo next time lolol).
Thanks for the quick input guys. I'm pretty Co.fortable I flashed the balls off my fascinate(even managed to permanently brick once - phone turned on to orange screen and that was all) lolol seems like humbles the way to gO. I can't wait for official legit MIUI.

I came from a fascinate myself. Ive tried almost every rom with almost every kernel. I was getting quad scores of upper 1600s with humble 1.4 and imnuts 709 kernel and i over clocked it to 1.4. The battery life was twice of my fascinate on that set up. About 3-4 hrs of hard use. I'm about customizing though. I now use gummy gb with a theme. The quad scores are mid 1200s. These are what Ive found to be the best and have little to no flaws. Hope this helps.

If I was you, I would probably wait until Friday and flash the release that danalo is coming out with for Humble (Froyo). 1.4 seems to have some minor bugs that you may want to avoid that should be completely ironed out in the next release of Humble. The GB roms don't appear to have the maturity to get past some of the weird bugs such as terrible battery life and reduced LTE speeds so I would probably stay away from them for now.
Humble with animations off and LCD density set back to 240 has been running perfectly for me.

I've been running gb for a few days now and have no bugs at all. The battery is almost the same has humble froyo. The only catch with humble 1.4 that I found was no gb keyboard. To solve that you go to titanium back up before flashin 1.4 backup gb keyboard flash 1.4 then back to titanium to restore gb keyboard.

How is CM7 working now? when I had one, it would drop data, boot with no data, and the battery drivers were all screwed up...how is it now? Have a lot of the mistakes been corrected from the original G2x's that were shipped? (reboots, data drops, etc)...??? Any help would be appreciated. Tired of this Single core phone, and found a good deal on a G2x.

I've been running MIUI. WiFi Calling isn't working yet (which sucks) but I'm using Faux's 4.2 Kernel and getting great battery life and very little issues.
With Faux's kernel, WiFi will sometimes fail which requires a restart, and sometimes using USB Mass Storage will lock up.
Sounds bad, but aside from WiFi calling not working, the other issues are pretty rare.

For me, I had absolutely no reboots at all on the newest version until I went and flashed Faux's OC/UV kernel. To be fair, my battery life is plenty better, just a little unstable. Weapon by itself is amazing.
EDIT: Forgot to say I came from 2.3.5, so I came from a complete wipe.

What roms are the fellow rogers people flashing?

I've been on stock for several months now and still loving it, but today I decided I think I would now move onto flashing a rom on this. (Inspiration to do so because of the iPhone 4s) I notice this phone does lag and I want to clear that up if a rom will do that. So my question is what Rom would be safe for a Roger's phone and will not boot up with one of those AT&T screens. What rom is everyone using out there?
Im more or less just asking for a suggestions haha.

I'm running the stock Rogers Gingerbread 2.3.3 and love it.
Overclocked to 1.6Ghz
Infusion-GB Core-A2
OC/UV w/ SetCPU
Memory tweaks w/ Auto killer
I get outstanding performance, perfectly stable & have doubled my stock battery life.
Overclocking will give you much greater performance increases over a ROM change, especially since we're fortunate enough to have been given the lovely Gingerbread stock.
Undervolting will keep you running cool & save you a lot of battery power too.

Best thing about this phone is the games made for tegra. They are enhanced!
There isn't really a need to change kernal because this phone is fast as is. I tried it, oc'd it and never saw real time improvements. I actually underclock mine to 816mhz and it still plays all games the same.
This phone operates the best for me on Baldwin's kang cm7. Its fast and reliable. Either way you will want to use anything that uses the external sd card for app storage.

I know this is an old thread but just wanted to say this phone is pretty awesome, my grandmother loves it and so do I. What I love the most about it is the stock build of the phone, the phone seems to respond faster when tapping on capacitive buttons then when I click them on my mytouch 4g slide which isnt stock like the g2x. I notice stock will always be faster then phones which have sense, touchwiz, and other crap of layer on top of android

G-ma's stock G2x. Updated software?
You mentioned the speed of the stock build. I am curious if GRANDMA has the recent software update. It's V21Y and brings the phone up to Gingerbread 2.3.4 (as opposed to 2.3.3 previously. My wife has been on it over a month now w/o rebooting. It's an awesome stock build! My G2x is rooted and running recent Cyanogenmod real well too. The stock is so good now that even I sometimes restore a rooted stock nandroid for ZERO bugginess!
Joining in the dredging of an old thread - I loaded V21y on both my and my wife's phone - both run slower with noticeably more lag than stock Froyo. But no dreaded Black Screen Of Death, which is what my wife hated (she is on call sometimes). So I guess I'm happy. Someday I should try a dev rom I guess... But I NEED WiFi calling and a2dp - not sure if I can get that in a dev rom...

wifi calling and a2dp work in almost all of the roms, even on the new baseband (except bluetooth calling, but streaming music works), just try one and find out. CM7 is the best place to start

Yea she got the update 2.3.4, the stock build is awesome fast, faster than the htc sense obviously but I still love the htc sense animations are just better on sense if sense could be just as fast as stock id loved it even more lol. Stock makes a big difference even the single core G2 is fast on stock faster than the mytouch even with 2 cores. I've done the test I tap the menu at the same time on the 3 phones and the mytouch is the slowest. However you do see the difference when not on the UI, for example on apps, the browser, and loading obviously the mytouch wins on that aspect 1.2 ghz dual core

theres still some minor issues with the 2.3.4 got one rare SOD and a few odd reboots. cm7 has none of the issues. guess thats the tradeoff for proper quality of calls and a working gps.
I downgraded my baseband back to the March 2011 firmware, loaded up Hell Fire Phoenix with Faux's stable kernel, running V6 SuperCharger, and a Team Carbon theme that I'm currently modifying to my specific likings.
This phone flies for me. Everything works and it looks great while doing it. I really don't see a need to get a new phone, unless I decide I want a larger screen.
I still hate LG, but hey...

I'm using the mytouch and my grandma won't be changing phones in a long while maybe untill her upgrade is due. And for me would be the same, I'm waiting for the quad core htc mytouch to come out.
