Roughly three weeks ago I decided to take the user interface library I was working on for Android to the next level in the form of The Seven+ Project. Myself, along with a number of other talented developers, are working on a suite of applications for Android using this user interface. Ultimately we are working to have this suite efficient, fluid, and interconnected. Do continue to check in on these applications as more features get added and bugs get fixed. We are always looking for feedback and bug reports. So check out our applications and our website and let us know what you think!
Unlike past initiatives we are a cooperative organization composed of independent developers, who, when using our using interface retain complete control over their applications. We are also about more than just copying; the PLUS in Seven+ is all about adding more features, customizations, and more.
Also a note to developers: we are looking for skilled developers that have made applications previously and want to adapt them using our user interface. Pretty much any standard application is fair game, so whether you have an email, calendar, set of widgets, or something else, if you want to make an application using our please contact us.
Links to a few of our applications:
- Launcher 7 by Timo Kujala
- Seven+ Calculator by Thomas Barrasso
- WP7Lock by Sami Musallam
- ZPlayer by Temitayo Odesanmi
- StatusBar+ by Thomas Barrasso
- Messaging7 by Omkar Deshmukh
Also follow us on Twitter, Google+, and check out sevenplusandroid.org.
Looks GREAT so far. I'm a fan of WP7-styled apps and I think this is a great project.
Thank you!
Haha ok so I don't know if you have any idea if what's going on but I downloaded the lockscreen to check it out (pretty cool btw) but went back to widgetlocker and everytime I press the home button it comes up with all my home apps and then I select one and I set it as default then when I launch a diff app and press home the ssame thing pops up. Its like the defaults keep getting cleared for some reason. Any idea what's going on?

In which way are you affiliated with the guys of WP7Android.com ?
@HearthC0re The closest thing to an affiliation is that some of the developers (notably those of ZPlayer and WP7Lock) are now part of our project. We are a collaborative organization of independent developers using a common user interface library that will hopefully make its way into a number of applications.
@dodgersrgood I suggest you send Sami Musallam an email as he is the developer of WP7Lock. His email is [email protected]
@xriderx66 Thanks, glad to hear it!
looks like an interesting project. keep it up
i think that you ought to offer a free version of your UI demo so that you can build some momentum support for your project. I think the windows phone UI is great and I would like to see it thuroughly baked into a rom, not just sitting on top of cm7 or something. Keep up the great work and I would encourage you to keep the community up to date with developments.
Also, there are some grammatical problems with your website.
Good luck!
@SimianJones I am not too sure about a ROM as we have neither a developer who knows where to begin, nor the honest desire. The problem with a ROM is that it would reach so many less people and require that one be built for each and every device. The UI I am building uses the Android SDK and is designed to work well with any application. While a ROM would be nice, it would have to be in the distant future when the UI is more mature, bug free, and when we find an interest in building a ROM.
Phew, that is enough of that. As far as updates, will do. We have/ are working on a better blog, our Twitter, mailing list, and more to keep those interested up-to-date.
I like the launcher but how do you add more homescreen?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I tried out the launcher and I like it. It does pose some problems with larger widgets. The launcher gives size options of one or two tiles. This squeezes 4 by x widgets making them harder, sometimes impossible, to use. For example, I can use BeWeather by using a larger font size in that widget's settings. I cannot use PocketBreeze because it cuts off the top of the widget and makes everything too small to see or tap, even with the large font.
I also noticed Launcher 7 pretty high on my list of app using the battery. I don't recall seeing my launcher high on the list, if at all. This is with a custom AOSP ROM, Gingerbread Deck.
This looks promising.
This looks like a great project. Keep up the good work
@Vertig Thank you!
@scottjb The developer of Launcher 7, Timo Kujala is aware of most of your concerns and working to fix them. With each update he hopes to use less memory and battery. He has also told me that he is working on a way of fixing widget sizing and such, but I am not sure how. Just pay attention to the updates and if possible purchase the donate version which gets updates earlier.

I just discovered that you all merged in this sevenplusnadroid project. Really nice to read. I eventually bought Launcher7 Donate 2 days ago so I could have latest update after using Free for a while.
Besides, I have battery drains and reading Launcher7 posts, some say it is, so I guess I found the culprit... but I won't stop using it (I made my own full WP7-style themed ROM including MMS, Notes, WhatsApp, Camera, Phone, Contacts and Calendar, although just themed them of course, so also installed Launcher7 and won't let it go).
Anyway, really waiting for the rest of your WP7 apps!! And you have my help here, although I think you all know much more!

Most probably, we don't have the same phone, since this isn't a specific phone's thread. Mine is a LG Optimus Black with NOVA ROM → WP7 Style
Just get any ROM you want and spend days and days theming it
I even made a WP7 keyboard (which looks MUCH more real and gorgeous than those "android wp7 keyboards and keyboard themes" that are published. But it's based in a paid app so...

how bout a good wp7 contacts app
Certainly looking for a developer who would want to work on a contacts application, but none is in the works currently.
This looks awesome. Very excited about this project. Played with launcher7 a bit
Thanks to everyone working on this.
Hey, great project.
But I'd like to request something.
Something, that every theme and project to resemble the Windows Phone 7 style.
A decent SMS app.
The only thing I found that resembled the style pretty good is this theme for MIUI:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1174126
which also themes the SMS app.
But, well, you need MIUI for it.
So, please, consider doing a nice SMS app in the style of WP7. We really need it.

hi friends. i know, i know this discussion is premature, but lets talk about what we want from android 2.3 ....to be a good source of inspiration for those who make it
God bless you to have the best inspiration!
Not a bad idea...
They should root it out of the box
Love. World peace.
since 2.2 had a 400-500% performance boost, 2.3 should have a 4000-5000% boostv
They've got the performance down. I think 2.3 will focus more on the user - ease of use and greater stability to compete with the iPhone. This will be shortly followed (3.0 maybe) with a whole new user interface design. They didn't hire the WebOS designer for nothing...
More than anything, I want the application's interface to look better and more unified. Like on an iOS, no matter how bad the app is, it still looks just as good as anything else. On Android, having a good looking UI is rare.
'Settings' in Froyo looks great, black background, white text, easy to navigate. But then you go to settings in Beautiful Widgets, and the text size is different, check boxes are on the left instead of right, and it's just not unified. They need a stricter standard.
I would love to see pinch-zoom on Email/gmail.
Maybe an option to display google voice SMS in the standard MMS app. A more customizable phone app, as in choosing which screen to default to and have a T9 search option... ( Like Dialer One)
Launcher Pro as standard launcher
Hold down volume to switch tracks on default music player

Yes, this is a big deal. froyo has most of the basics that people were begging for: voice dialing, apps2sd, latest opengl, etc but they really need to blow everyone away on the UI. The reason why there's so much fragmentation is because of all these custom UI's and the reason why we have those UI's is because there is a perception that Android needs them to look good.
But once you get past the first few screens and into actual apps, there's nothing to hide. There has to be a general system for UI controls for all the apps so that they can look good without much effort.
Also, in many OS's, even the controls are themable and if Google can do that, an OEM could have an Android that looks completely different all the way down but runs all the apps and they would operate the same way.
from what i've heard, there's no 2.3. Gingerbread is a major release.. Android 3.
Here a To-Do list for the android developers :
- add the possibility to hide some apps from the drawer
- add a theme manager to change theme and restore the original one more easily
- enable root automaticaly
- add a feature like "Android Guard" to lock and locate your phone with your google account
- add a backup manager, linked with your Google account which could backup all your apps and data (like Titanium Backup) to switch easily from a ROM to another or to change your android phone.
I've no more idea for the moment but here are some nice features

2.3 or 3, real flash support, that works well, not just "sort of works well"
Thread moved since it isn't development.

The latest update to K-9 (which I prefer over the stock email app) has this. I was quite surprised when I saw it. Though, it does exclude GMail, but I think that's because GMail inaccessible to third-parties right now.

Not sure if I'll get some reem'ing for asking, but...
I would absolutely love if someone could assist me in obtaining MotoBlur for my Droid Charge...???
I sell phones, and I've loved Motorola Androids the most. I started with the Droid 1, the Droid X, and then the Droid X2. I've sold plenty of Atrix, Atrix 2's, and Photons. I like the extra features that MotoBlur seems to have that others do not...
Such as the App drawer having extra features: Groups, Long-Pressing Apps to get an extra menu of options (such as Uninstall, Share, Add to Group, Add to Home), being able to change your dock icons, and the social apps, status, etc.
I think I'm willing to compensate/donate for this cause. I'm not digging Samsung's boring iPhone appeal....
Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated! Thank you to everyone that has been a great asset to my Android days! XDA has been a great asset for all my knowledge. XDA's been so great... that I've never had to post.. o.o; I've been reading for at least a year now.. ;p

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you probably won't ever see MotoBlur on this phone. First, it's very hard to port one manufacturer's customized Android user interface over to another phone. But here's why it's even more unlikely with the Charge--we can't get plain old Open-Source Android to run on the Charge yet. The only version of Android that our developer community has ever been able to get running on the Charge is Samsung's TouchWiz. All ROMs to date have been built on Samsung's base and tweaked (removing elements from TouchWiz, adding elements to, other code chages). There are two obstacles holding back further development on this phone: 1) Lack of source code for the 4G LTE Radio Interface Layer, without this new ROMs will not have 4G; 2) Lack of kernel source code sufficient to build working stock-based kernels from source that actually boot. And like I said previously, even if we had a working RIL and were able to build working kernels from source, it would still be very unlikely that anyone would port MotoBlur to run on the Charge (we would however have other ROMs such as CyanogenMod, MIUI, OMGB/OMFGB, and vanilla AOSP, etc.).
From what you've said you want, I think you can get most of that with a replacement launcher (like ADW Launcher EX or GO Launcher) and Android Pro Widgets. My absolute favorite launcher is LauncherPro Plus, but I can't recommend that to you in good faith. The app hasn't been updated in almost two years, there was hardly any Gingerbread troubleshooting done, and there is no ETA on any update at all. Until the dev for LauncherPro Plus gives us a full out update of that app, I won't recommend it (but I love the widgets so much that I can't leave it either).
Hahahahahaha. Oh wait, you're serious? Let me laugh even harder.

Thank you for taking the time up explain everything to me. I nearly appreciate the insight you've given me on my new device.
I've been using Launcher Pro every since my days on the Motorola Droid 1. I immediately paid for the Launcher Pro Plus, and it was practically the only app I paid fire over a year.
However, as you already know, Launcher Pro is outdated and hasn't been updated in a long time. It also has issues every once in a while. Maybe I do too much on my devices.
Do you have any recommendations for the features that I would love?
Mostly the ability to manage my apps from inside the app drawer, such as long-pressing an app in the drawer in order to Share, Uninstall, Add to Home. I also love the Groups you can create inside the app drawer with MotoBlur.
I would appreciate any more insight you have to offer.

My LauncherPro Plus used to have issues too (they pop up more in Gingerbread, unfortunately)... but, I've managed to resolve most of them by running the V6 SuperCharger script and setting my launcher to "bulletproof." I don't, personally, use V6 for anything else but others on the forum do and claim great results on the Charge.
Features? I only use a few. First, I use customized app icons and a customized background for my Dock. I also enable scrolling and carry 3 docks that scroll and loop infinitely. Of the two additional docks, one has Navigation centered and the second has my GF's speed dial centered. Next, I use two 4x4 widgets that take up my entire screen--One is the calendar widget, the other is the Friends widget, which aggregates my Facebook and Twitter feeds chronologically. I have all 3 of my home screens loop infinitely and I use the Flip transition from LauncherPro Plus.
In terms of managing apps from within the app draw, I don't think you can Share or create Groups. But if you long press an app, a trash can appears at the bottom of the app drawer. Drag the app over the trash can and wait, it will say "Drop to uninstall" and you can uninstall right from the app draw. Additionally, if you long press an app and drag it somewhere else (not the trash can) then release, it will add the app to your home screen.
I would like to thank everyone for their input. I loved my Launcher Pro, and I had actually purchased the Plus version two years ago on my Droid 1.
I have decided that Go Launcher EX definitely has more up-to-date features and benefits. I'm currently using the free version, and it has pretty much all the features I was looking for from MotoBlur.
Thanks again!

Hello everyone!
This project is for the Catapult Open Source Launcher or just Catapult for short
What is Catapult you may ask?
It is a launcher that I have started that is currently a port of the stock launcher and CyanogenMod's Trebuchet.
What does it do?
Not much ATM, but with the help of this great community it can do a lot
Currently I am the only developer on this project but I would love to get other devs involved as well. With help we can turn this into one of the most powerful launchers yet
Currently the sources reside at https://github.com/LG-Android-Coding/android_packages_apps_Catapult but if it picks up speed I'll move them to another place.
Please help in this project
Thanks!

I wish for it to be a powerful yet open launcher. The last one similar to this was ADW Launcher and hasn't been updated since 2010
There are many powerful launchers out there, but barely (if any) are open source
I aim to change that. Any feature you want, if you code it, we'll add it
I guess it will be up to us: What will this do that Trebuchet does not do (besides the name translation to English ?
The look is certainly similar (both draw from "stock"). Trebuchet has been ported to cm10, will likely try one lifted off another ROM.
Trebuchet's problem now is fragmentation. For cm9, I have found several downloads, mostly different. Some have properties right on the main properties pane (I prefer this), other have them buried somewhere under system properties (I have never found them), others have none (but honor my desktops). We should have one place, GIT or other download place, for Catapult current version.
Because of the common source and because many of us are using Trebuchet on cm9, it would be a great convenience and boost for Catapult if it honored the pre-existing Trebuchet desktops and settings. To be up and running after flash (or push), not having to fall back to adw, would be great!

I think ICS launchers (Stock/CM/Apex/Nova/Holo...) look and feel quiet similar. However SGS3 launcher has many advantages eg. able to create folders in the appdrawer, sort apps, hide apps... I like it very much. If we can have these plus themes, this launcher will be the best launcher.

Actually what i really would like to see here is speed, Im about to flash your CM10 and we both know the P500 is fairly underpowered but a very good work horse when it comes down to it. Theming should also be up there as a priority. Im gonna download the source and scratch around a little, if i get a theming solution, i will push it back to git. Simple things like frame/border colours, icons for now
If you get a working theme solution I will love you forever and ever

This may end up a new thread if some Dev takes the -- multitasking launchers for small displays:
1. Tiled, side by side a la note 2. Resizing so do in paranoid.
2. Cascaded -- first one still relevant and maybe best: web OS, now open source. Resizing so for paranoid.
3. Pulse! This reader has elegant and usable interface. Can see a whole launcher based on this. But less radical and quite relevant here: the bottom program bar becomes slide-able and includes icons or thumbnails of active apps. Select or slide between as in pulse.

There are several sliding taskbars around but from what I read of their descriptions, they are more customizable app-drawer subsets rather than task switchers. They also waste screen space with another taskbar--what I have in mind would use the regular one.
I think I'm just gonna let this die. No public interest at all. Might develop it on my own and if it gets good enough I might actually release it.

Looks like another great launcher for tablets...
http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/18/chameleon-launcher-1.0-google-play/
whats so great about it?
Tried it.
Uninstalled it.
I prefer Apex launcher. Chameleon has some nice ideas but it's still buggy and not ready for release imo. It costs $10 too which is a mistake.
Basically, the main feature is that you can set it up so that your default "home" screen automatically changes depending on where you are, what time it is, etc... But really, other than that, I'm not so sure what people (including myself - I'm a "backer") were so excited about. Besides being able to set your default home screen depending on certain conditions, it really doesn't add much to the launcher experience...
I personally can't remember why it was supposed to be so great!
I un-installed it as well, mainly because you can only use widgets provided by the app - you lose access to all standard Android widgets, which makes it unusable in my opinion.
That being said, it would be nice if Nova, Apex, etc added the ability to automatically change your home screen depending on certain conditions - I think that is a cool feature...

I am a backer, too. I am disappointed, too.
Switching things like chameleon does is really nothing special. It is still just one screen. So, i can set my apex launcher screens to reflect what chameleon tries to do very easily. The only thing is that i have to swipe. To be honest, this is not exactly true either, cause almost everything can be done with Tasker.
So yeah. I still hope chameleon starts getting better, but it has to be real quick or all the interest is going to float away and another app will go down the drain like many others.
I backed it too... it costed 10$ . But after few days i uninstalled it. Lack of Widgets , very Slow , lack of user defined wallpapers etc .
They are still in Beta i guss and they are updating the app almost everyday . Hope they come up with more nich Widgets etc soon.
thanks all for the replies!!! was trying to see if it warranted the ten dollar price
like i use a different homescreen when im in my vehicle (media oriented),but right now i just swipe right to get to it
swipe left to go back to my regular homescreen
chameleon key feature is simply to "auto-swipe" ?
At first I was disappointed, 1.0 has changed my opinion its stable and looks amazing. I was the first to complain with the beta releases now with the widget api released things good get interesting. @Apex launcher pro on my tf700t.....too buggy

Kickstarter backer here and I'm a little disappointed now that they have issued Ver. 1.0. There's no calendar widget, you can only place so many apps in the dock, the dock is huge and not adjustable, no pre-built Android widgets so any thing you've already paid for is wasted, and it doesn't do news feed images very well.
But the biggest disapointment is the lack of a calendar widget! That should have been a fundamental basic widget from the start. It's not so it won't be my launcher of choice untill that get's fixed.

That's one key feature, but I would say the bigger draw is the aesthetic polish it brings. That's one of the reasons they won't let normal android widgets be used, as it clashes with the look of Chameleon. Give it time for more widgets to get made (especially with the API now available to developers) before deciding if it's a success or failure. IMO with 3 or 4 more of the widgets I need, I would easily use it as my day to day launcher.
whoah....cant use regular widgets? only widgets you can use are chameleon widgets?

Correct. If you care to learn html5 you can make your own Chameleon widgets, and in the future they will add the ability to use widgets other users create. Until then, you only have the official chameleon ones to choose from. No standard Android widgets are usable in Chameleon though.
I was super hyped about it so I backed it on KS. Then I tried it and uninstalled it... nuff said...

Chameleon will definitely get better with further releases and more widgets added.
Like someone before me said, for me too, the polished and beautiful design is an added value of this launcher, nothing else (at least currently).
Calendar, Google+ and Music widgets are coming in near future. Custom widgets from users are coming, too, eventually. (i am hoping for beter gmail, email widgets etc...which can easily be done by others, not necessarily by teknision).
But, as i said before, they will have to act quickly - hype is on, but as with anything else it can get cold very quickly, too.

Just found this I like the look of it but does it have bookmark and email widgets?
Another kickstarter backer here. I also uninstalled it. It supports my gmail and news. I don't use Twitter or Facebook so it's fairly useless to me. Maybe widgets that appeal more to me are yet to come but not using it now.
"Time to Rebel"
With the recent changes Facebook has made to make us use the Facebook Messenger app, ive taken a next step to start building a Java based Chromeview built specifically for Facebook allowing you to message users the way its always been. In a nutshell, Fellow is a WebApp based on Facebook Mobile.
Here it is
Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.NxIndustries.myfacebookfree
With the recent update, I focused on Media uploading and Java scripting and for the majority of Kitkat devices, it works but for some, you arnt so lucky...
Facebook Lockscreen
I actually found this activity on accident while developing my Launcher for the HTC M8 and figured i'd make a small app out of it.
Set Facebook Lock is a small application that allows a backdoor to use the Facebook Home's lockscreen without the need of the actual Home application and allows any device to use it bypassing Facebook's device detection. (I do not actually know if it works for all devices but worth a shot)

Awesome app mate, love it so much that bought ad free version...
2 suggestions though:
- Make arrows on top bar smaller and plain should blend better with material ui... It seems a bit off to my eyes.
- Make refresh button movable and excludable (is that even a word?) like Facebook chat heads, because it gets in the way,and going to menu and enabling/disabling it is a bit troublesome, therefore moving it somewhere else as needed seems easier... You could even make it hide like halo from paranoid

Il take this into consideration! This is what i like to here.
I agree on icons as basically their place holders for now, need to make it more material like. Need to make a material style for kitkat users. Floating Action Button was an experimental thing. I didnt know how people would react to it at first but its one of the things that make this webapp unique.

Cool! I quite like the floating refresh button, if you make it movable, it would be perfect!
Maybe add a full screen option?
That's very good work mate! I also use your launcher
This app is amazing, I'm really hate the official Facebook app and Fellow is perfect for me.
Just a few kilobytes, and a million times better than the official app, great work!
The only thing that bothers me is the loading bar (Image at attachments), If you can place it a little higher it will be awesome.
That was bothering me as well over few days after using it lol. Il surely look into it.
Great, hope you will fix it soon.
I left a review at the Play Store (Free version), look into it
Gonna be working on an update soon and taking everyone's feedback into consideration. I will be adding a more material feel to this as well as transparency options for kitkat+ users.
