I noticed my phone gets really hot, like i cant even hold it without it being unbearable, Im thinking of getting a new one.. Would T-Mobile or HTC supply me with one free of cost?

Hard reset your phone on stock ROM - if it's still overheating so you can't hold it, it's a faulty model and they will repair/replace it

Monitor your temperature battery. If btw 45 ~ 50C for browse using mobile data, then its normal. If for daily use, it should not go more than 45C.

45-50 while browsing using mobile data, are you serious? I've been experiencing this, but it came along with heavy battery drain (battery dead after 2.5 hours), which, if it's normal, you're saying it's normal to only be able to browse the Internet using mobile data for 2.5 hours?

You should take it in right away. Barring any other possible, but unlikely issues, it's not normal for the battery to get that hot at all. If it's within the first year they should replace it for free. Regardless, if not you still need to replace the battery.
Btw, 40-45C on a PC is Ok, but on your phone it should stay between 25-35C under normal load.

Overheating

Ive been noticing my phone getting hot under moderate use. I've been hitting 114°+ f. At what point should I be concerned

I have noticed 114-116 with moderate use as well. After letting it sit, it cooled down fairly well. I think 120+ without use would be an issue. I wouldnt worry at 114 if you let it sleep and it drops after 15 minutes

yes when I got my infuse my battery get's crazy hot, after a week, now it's not that hot anymore I think it's the battery need tyo be break-in after that it's going to be normal, and remember that Flash thing suck battery so much, when playing flash video it uses 4g, cpu is working hard, + display is on, when battery drains fast it will be very hot, so now I just use skyfire, because skyfire convert the video on their server, then stream it as a on a mobile friendly format, so the difference is it don't uses the cpu a lot, but with Flash cpu workload ia increase.

114?!
The hotter a battery gets the more it loses its ability to keep a 100% charge. I always keep my battery at least below 100* to be on the safe side so I don't degrade its ability to hold maximum charge.
Just like if you were to leave your phone in the car with the sun blazing that would be bad for the battery - I wouldn't allow it to get that hot.

Do you by any.chance have widgetsoid installed? I had the same problem turns out widgetsoid constantly makes the processor run at Max thus heating up the phone. I uninstalled and haven't gone over 105°... if it doesn't work backup with titanium backup and do a data wipe.

[Q] My HTC Sensation got very hot and then died...

My Sensation was down to about 40% charge so I plugged it in.
A while later I picked it up and it was incredibly hot.
I unplugged it at which point it said the battery was at 0% and shut down.
I let it cool off and then tried to switch on.
Nothing.
I plugged it back in and it booted up but the battery was at 1%.
It's now charging normally 8% so far and does not seem hot.
Anyone else come across this ?

That seems similar to the G2X issue. Like overheating, right?
Haven't had it on my Sensation 4g yet
A defective battery perhaps?
Hmmmm. It seems fine now. Fully charged and cool as a cucumber

Did your mobile connection or wifi ON while charging? Mostly heat problem happen when there is an activity of upload and downloading something through mobile connection or wifi.
I always switch both setting to OFF condition while charging.
I use to have Desire and DHD, both showing hot condition each time i'm download something

That seems like a bit of a crap deal if that is true.. I have a iPhone 3GS at the moment & I can download 2GB files over night whilst plugged into my charger & yeah I get a bit of heat from it in the morning, but nothing that causes any concern. Im looking to get a Sensation as soon as Orange (UK) announce a release date... Not being able to download over night due to heat reasons is a bit sh!te..
I really must stop reading all the bad things about this phone as I'm slowly turning away from it :-(

Still downloading/checking updates for email, Facebook, Twitter (if you have them), Calendar, or any other apps that use WiFi in the background.
Turning WiFi off while charging is the best option

This is absolutely ludacris. I've never heard such crap in all my life, not saying what you're saying is crap, but the fact you have to turn Wifi off whilst charging is total <enter swear word here>.
Are you telling me one of the most powerful smart phones on the market cannot handle Wifi being on as well as charging... Im shocked & considering a different phone.
It happened to me the first day as well. Not getting got and turning off but it was burning my hands it was so hot. It hasn't done it in 2 days now though. Probably just adjusting. Still dangerous though

You are correct. It is nonsense. I have sync'd 2gb of mp3s and videos from drop box over wifi whilst on charge with no adverse effects at all. My phone is running wifi and bluetooth right now whilst on charge and it's not even warm to the touch. This was almost certainly a one-offand probably a fault in the charging circuitry causing it to overheat.

Dust getting under the screen... I mean come on.. I used to get dust under my Nokia 402 12 years ago... Is Dust REALLY still getting under screens?!?
Touch screen problems... Are you telling me this phone was not tested to hell & back and this problem wasnt ever notified before?
Slightly off topic, but it's just annoying to see these problems coming to light 7 days before I get it! lol

question are you using a silicon phone cover?
wow. good for you guys! you have a "HOT" phone. hehe
My sensation hasn't had a hot issue though. since the weather here is so cold. 0-5 degrees so, my sensation hasn't really shown any overheating. maybe you guys just need a heat sync attached to your phone.
i notice mine only gets hot when using it in a game, with the overclock 1.5G... i do notice taking off any cover (like my gel case) seems to dissipate alot of the heat but looking at temps it has only maxed out at 28 degrees... isn't this thing capable of 40 or so before it starts to die out?
The only time i get overheating is wheb playing 3d games for long periods of time. Other then that its all fine. And the issues about dust under screen hasnt affected me at all and i doubt it would affect you seeing as htc must have addressed that issue in the latest batch of phones.

Is my phone or battery crazy?

Guys, I need some help. My four days old sensation is acting crazy. After every charge, the battery level does not change for some time. Like, today, took phone of the charger at 8 am and I used it for browsing the net for like 2 hours. The first time it moved was at like 1pm to 97%. After this, the battery started to go down somewhat . When I got home at 6pm, it was at 65%.
As I'm typing this right now, I took the phone off the charger at 79% , been using it for an hour straight , yet still shows 79%. Is this normal behavior for this phone? Anyone else have the same issue? Should I exchange this phone with another new one at walmart?

Lol, I get your point, but my main concern is that is this normal? Shouldn't it go down gradually from the beginning? Like just right now, its been off the charger for an hour and half, and just now it has moved for the first time from 79 to 77. And I've been using it non-stop during that time.

I think it's a problem to do with the software and battery stats. Other people have reported this issue (there was a thread about it sometime ago, if I can I'll find it). Maybe when we get root and clear the battery stats through Recovery we'll see it go back to normal. Or maybe a ROM such as CM7 will solve it.
Or maybe you do just have an amazing battery
It seems i'm having the same issue. Battery is stuck at 100 and battery voltage shown is actually rising.
When i charged my Sensation for the first time, it ended with completely discharged and overheated battery. Phone told me that i should have used only original charger and then restarted. The charger included looked original to me
I charged my phone from PC USB port and it worked until now. I just charged again with the included charger and now it's stuck at 100.
I don't know what to do now, my Sensation doesn't have any of the many other problems reported here, so i'm not sure i really want to get a replacement. Can this be a problem with the battery or is it phone hardware? I can't believe it's software...

Battery life topic #3407 - Is this normal

I have been using my Sensation for a 3 months now and have noticed the idle battery usage very high and barely get through the day without touching my phone. Well that's probably my own fault for having this and that syncing and downloading all the time. And my suspicions were correct, because when I turn data and WiFi off the battery could last forever. Understandable.
What really bothers me is that when screen is on the juice just disappears. It's just 2 to 2,5 hours of screen being on (web browsing, playing games etc.) to make the battery completely dead. This is pretty much my first actual smartphone and I understand that such a big screen takes it's toll, but is that normal?
I have the AUO screen.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
Sounds about right to me. Have never used my screen for two hours straight, but I'm at 36% for about an hour and thirty minutes of screen being on with an Anker battery.
Regarding the syncing, you could probably try juice defense and see if that helps you any.
Sent from my HTC Sensation
Yeah, maybe I should get an extended battery. BTW my screen brightness is on auto. Wonder how those 4.7" beasts will handle usage.

Hi,
There has been a lot of talk about poor battery life, and it is mostly attributable to the kernel.
My best suggestion is to update your kernel to:
1.Faux's latest...in my sig
2.Bricked 1.41r has had good reviews...HERE
Make a nandroid backup,
wipe cache and dalvik,
flash kernel,like a ROM,
reboot.
Also, try guide from my signature.. It helped me
How much difference does it make battery wise whether you're e.g browsing the internet or playing graphically demanding games?

Random heat

Was just wondering if anyone else had experienced random heating up from the sensation and perhaps managed to pinpoint its cause?
The reason I am so confused is because it doesn't do it all the time so its not that the phone just runs hot, the other day I was playing gta 3 for an hour and the phone was barely warm and now as I type this after some casual web browsing out and about its getting so I can barely touch the bottom of the phone, I saw someone mention something to do with mobile data causing more heat than Wi-Fi which could be the case for my example but can anyone shed anymore light on the issue?
Sent from my HTC Sensation using XDA
Yes for me when I was using a stock BATTERY I would experience this quite often.sometimes my device would get so hot I could barely touch it. I was actually in fear of melting my SD card! I solved my problem by purchasing a long lasting battery called Anker. My device has never done that since the battery has been installed! Sometimes if I'm playing a intense game I'll get some warmth but Nothing like what was happening before. Before the battery change I could barely even touch my device it was so hot ! The Anker battery solved the problem for me and gave me much more battery time! It was a win win situation, no more overheating and more battery time! That's what worked for me. Hope this helps you out.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
My device got some warmth but not that blazing hot. My guess is that you using mobile data a lot without giving it a rest. I'm using the stock battery but it seems quite ok. But sometimes I play HD games and my sensation turns really hot but i could still hold that
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE using xda premium
I often get decently hot even with my anker battery, but I usually just ignore it and it goes away, I would use "battery indicator" from the play store to see what your battery temp really is, because my phone has felt hot before even though the battery itself was at a fine temperature. If its the battery then think about getting a new battery, but if it isn't then there no reason.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda app-developers app
For me my problem was definitely the battery, ! My battery also was giving me only two hours then complete drain. Each issue can be different. But new battery solved the over heat problem for me but I'm certain -my battery was defective.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
I'm using anker batteries and after some more testing I've found that it is related to mobile data, after playing games such as Max Payne, gta 3, and minecraft all pretty demanding for a few hours the phone got no more than slightly warm and then I turned mobile data and syncing on checked emails and Facebook etc and the bottom of the phone near the buttons got very hot even after like ten mins, pretty weird.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using XDA
I get it sometimes with heavy use of mobile data with stick battery.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e using xda premium
Constant data usage causes it to heat up. But I also UV'd my phone, which only exacerbated the problem. Once I removed the UV, the heat issue was nowhere near as bad.
Sent from my sleek sexy Sensation with ViperS
i often felt heat phone
i think common ics build problem.
htc have to release some about heating phone.
i go back to gingerbread. it is little heating phone.
i recommend to gingerbread.
The phone gets so hot due to a bad layout on the motherboard, even with an Anker battery I have actually burnt my thumb tip on bottom of the screen.
One way to help the problem is by getting an Anker battery, the only problem with these is they do not have a built in temperature sensor as it was removed to expand battery capacity. So any temperature app will say approx 25.2'c
After some researching I found that the app System Tuner can read CPU temps in realtime, get Pro and the CPU Temp icon pack and you can have alerts that are fully customizable.
