Development Question? - Verizon Droid Charge

Okay so since i bearly got the charge i saw a few roms, i love this phone! But i do dislike the battery life on this,
And i was just wondering if in the future there will be karnels or roms or tweaks to make the battery better.
I know it bearly came out,
but my question is. Will there be
Deep development with different roms and karnels in the future?

There may be in the future, although I don't think it'll reach huge numbers or variety like say the Thunderbolt or Incredible/Incredible2... There are now a few different kernels which may help with your battery life, as well as an awesome custom rom by Team Gummy for 2.2 froyo and 2.3 gingerbread

We can't foresee the future, but based on the development so far, and on other devices, I don't see why not.

Well dident the facinate get good roms and stuff?
And u know its weird because i have tried everyrom and karnel wit different setting. Undervolt i set about -120 on freaquencies.
idont know if am doing something wrong but still the same.
And well i hope the deva get hands on karnels for more tweaks otherwise id probly be switchin

...Spelling issues anyone?
Have you tried calibrating your battery?
Sent from my Galaxy Tab running MIUI

Significant battery improvements., if there to be had will come from two things..
1. New radio firmware (the ep1q has this although some people have reported issue with pops and noise in the background)
2. AOSP....

Kvswim, am not here for a spelling bee, and yes i have already calibrated twice.
And well ill try the new radio see how that works out.
And what you mean by AOSP?
i Dident know there were full AOSP roms out there.

I was playing around. Gotta have a sense of humor here. AOSP-Android Open Source Project. Pure Android. Stuff like CM7, MIUI, etc.
And for this phone, there are no AOSP roms... yet. We just got CM7 to boot, but it's still a long way from release.

I mean i dont see any relationship from radio towards battery drain?

i have no proof for what im saying just a thought.. but ide assume that vzw's lame data service that cuts out whenever it feels like it could def have something to do with our battery issues... if im on a wifi connection.. i can go 30-35 hours from a full charge with heavy use as to where on 3g i get like 15 at max.. and we wont even get started with 4g.. where i can watch it go down like 5% in 15 mins

Oh really? Wow thats a really good life.
Mine goes full 100%from 6 am to 12pm. (Lunch time) and i have 80% without using it -.- it gets annoying.
I even took dàta off and it still went down pretty quick

Best HTC Inspire 4G ROM available TODAY? Advice?

So when the Inspire 4G first came out, I joined from the dark side (iPhone)... and rooted for the first time. I tried InspiredHD and Android Revolution, but this was back when they both had the tinny audio, so I ended up going back to the ATT Stock Rooted ROM because I wanted my audio back.
Now several weeks later I see a bunch of ROMs available, several of which are Android Gingerbread ROMs. Which are the best? Is there a guide that compares their features that are updates on the daily basis that seems to be how often they're updated?
What do you recommend? I'd like one which is Gingerbread and still keeps the HTC sense, I do like my sense. I'd also like one that had the original audio quality, not the tinny audio that came with the preliminary ROMs.
Any advice\opinions would be appreciated.

b) No audio issues?
c) What's the best way to backup\restore so i don't have to reposition and create all my app arrangement and folders?

desire hd coredroid v4 for inspire 4g VS stock rom.
Personally I know that the stock rom to date has best battery life with setcpu.
I am using coredroid and it is very nice, but of course, it has terrible battery drain. 5-10% drain every 45 min.
It would be nice to have a custom kernel or some fix because it is a great rom, the looks and layout is nice.
It does have a fuzzy speaker sound .
I would suggest staying stock for a week or two, until the devs work out the bugs.
There is always a fix for most everything.

Thanks for the tips, yeah I was afraid of the battery drain. I was afraid it might be an issue. The battery is already bad with Stock ROM, I can't imagine it being any worse... 10% every 45 mins, yikes, that's a battery in 8 hours... lol.
I thought the speaker audio issue was resolved. Is this still not the case in 4.0?

As for application's I always do a clean install that way I know everything is right, not like it is all that hard to do.
My battery is lasting a complete day with this rom.
As for sound issues, people think that this is a large home speaker, it is a phone and the speaker works just fine. I listen to Pandora for three to four hours and it is fine for me.

Why would you do a clean install if you don't have to? Seems annoying to have to re-download and re-position apps every time a ROM is flashed.
A complete day for most is less than 12 hours... and if a phone lasts 12 hours sitting unused, it's really not ideal. Considering most people have a hard time getting a full day out of the Inspire 4G even without Mod's, I really don't want to change to anything that'll give me less battery than I already have, hehe.
I wish you luck my friend but this thread belongs in general, not development.

Because the Dev's say to do a clean wipe if you read the post from them and did I not say Pandora for three to four hours, not exactly unused, plus calls that I receive??? Plus do what you want you asked I responded as for anything else I could care less, it is working fine for me.

Speaker Issue: You can say it's a small speaker all you want, but it's still a quality speaker, and the digitized sounding issue was a major issue to me when the first ROMs came out. I don't expect surround sound and bass, but the stock ROM doesn't sound at all digitized\tinny.
Sorry I missed the Pandora comment. Not sure how you stream 3-4 hours a day without a recharge, considering that time of streaming would beat what the phone's battery and radio are capable of doing, but hey, more power to ya.
And for the record, the expression is "I couldn't care less" ... People who say "I could care less" are just repeating improper usage of the english language rather than thinking about what they're saying.

Have you done the battery reset procedure to ensure that your battery is being used to its full extent after installing the new ROM? If not, that may be your issue.

Battery reset procedure?!?!?!
Is that like those pieces of tin foil that used to "protect" me from my phone's radiation back in the 90's? LOL
Do explain, or provide link please....
Try something new
If you are really looking for AUDIO, give MIUI a shot. I have tried every ROM out there for the phone and I always end up with either Android Revolution 4 or MIUI. I like sense a lot, thus the AR4. But I often flash over to MIUI because the customizations are great, the themes are fun to play with, and the audio is louder than stock. Battery life is good, not quite stock but not as poor as CM7.
I would also try CM7. Fastest ROM out there, but ASOP reminds my of my old droid x and I can't do that anymore. Neither MIUI nor CM7 are sense and you must install an alternate home launcher if you want scrollable widgets.
My final $.02- try them all. With back ups from ROM manager, you can have several on your sd card!

Rchdmix v3.4 works good for lots of people
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Prem App
Any gingerbread rom right now is going to have battery drain. It is a leaked version from htc, and the source hasn't been released, so there isn't and custom kernel support for it. Modified stock is good, but honestly the battery life on a modified stock isn't going to be nearly as good as a rom based on 1.8X built by Sergio or Mike. Depending on what your doing you on the phone the drain is anywhere from 256-350ish ma, while in standby it stays around 4-6ma on say Android Revolution v3.1 or Coredroid v3.2. In call audio after flashing the sound fix is not going to be stock but it is going to be very close. There will be a sound boost on the outside speaker, so it will be easier to hear it ring. Make sure when you flash the sound fix after flashing a rom or a radio that you wipe the cache and devilk cache.
If ginger bread is what your looking for I would wait, if customization, performance and battery life are what your looking for flash AR v3.1 or Coredroid v3.2
I am not going to tell you how long the battery lasts when I use it cause how much I use my phone may be quite a bit different from how you use your phone, so to say that it lasts so many hour when I do this or that is trivial. But it is certainly longer then stock.
As to what section this should be posted in, it should be general since it's a question, and we have no Q&A section. Development is mainly for ROMS and Fixes, and Themes in apps are mainly for themes, apps, splash screens and boot animations.
Keep in mind you can give all the roms a whirl, as long as you make a nandroid back up with cwm you can flash any rom you like, and if you don't like it then use your nandroid backup to return to exactaly how your phone is right now.
I see some people commenting on how bad battery drain is. Is it really that bad for you? Did you have the captivate prior to this phone? My battery last me all day and into the next day with wifi on. I text a good bit and surf the web. My captivate could barely last till I got off work, this phone I can go to work next day with it on same charge and charge during the day

Best rom for the G2x?

Ok, normally its a no brainer as im used to CM7 on the G2, but i have been reading there is a lot of bugs with it (i have not read since nightly release 17 or so and i think its up to 30 or something around that now so i gotta catch up a bit i just got the phone today). I also read that eaglesbread or something like that is mentioned all over the place. normally i would not ask this question, but with this phone there is a lot of issues and want to clarify everything.
im an avid CM7 user, so trying other roms makes me nervous, so overall what has been the best ROM where everything works (gps, wifi, 4g, reboots, etc etc etc)
I would also like a rom with an overclockable kernel built in, as im kinda nervous about flashing kernels, but please feel free to share combos of roms and kernels that work outstanding as well. again, im used to a G2, so over there i dont ask this question, as i started and will continue to use CM7 on my G2.
my G2x is already rooted.
You are going to get alot of opinions cause at this point in time no rom is that much better then any other
Now wait for a while longer and I am sure it would be an easier answer

lol, sadly in the back of my mind, thats what i was thinking.
usually before i buy a phone, first thing i look for is how easy it is to root, then i look at hardware, then roms and stability. as you can tell, i have been trolling the G2x forums for almost 2 weeks now looking around and have not seen anything that is straight forward like on the G2, but i also got the G2 in feb 2011, so it was already out for a while prior to my purchase compared to this phone has been out for what 3-4 weeks now?
my initial plan was to stick with stock rom, just root it and change the font and remove some bloatware and wait for the official GB update and install it manually from one of our great developers on this site
my device has very very minor screen bleed at each of the 4 corners and even that was hard to find, screen build quality seems good and all day under moderate use has not locked up on me. i will have to figure out why wifi was having an issue with me, but my G2 was also have wifi lockups that it never had before so it may be an issue on my end. but 4G connectivity has been working 100%.

If you're a Cm fan, now's the time to jump on board. #34 is fairly stable. I use it as my day to day. The battery readings are still f'd up something major. Bionix is a really nice rom. Smooth and clean, and really no major bugs that I noticed. I rocked that for about 7 days, in between #26 and #33 CM. The battery goes fast with Bionix however...if the reading is, in fact, correct.

Nonsense!
I've been using Eagles Blood 1.04 Froyo for about a week now and its been great. I chose this one because it looks stock and I like that (black status bar is a nice mod too). Everything has worked fine: wifi, calls, GPS, 4G, good battery life, etc. I tried a couple Gingerbread variants but I had too many issues -- freezes, major keyboard lag, GPS not locking on. Haven't tried CM yet, although I loved it on my Nexus One.
Just my 2¢

There are some freezes with any of the roms when you use the kernels but what do you expect when you overclock to 1.5? From my experience the most stable set up for me is running stock froyo or EB froyo, but I always change my mind and go to GB and CM7 so go figure. Mind you the freezes for me are about 3 times a day and are annoying but the trade off IMHO is worth it

You should be much more concerned about overclocking your device than flashing a kernel. You really don't have much to fear, just dont get careless.
CM is a crowd favorite but its not for me so I dont think you would benefit from my opinion on the available roms.
I just encourage you to take a deep breath and start flashing rom to rom. You just might find that you like something else a lot more.
Faux asop is pretty solid for me. His latest with kernel is doing well so far. I haven't had the random loss in audio lately. If the battery is wrong I don't care because I am ocd and it helps me not worry!

Hey guys just got the infuse last night. Great phone so far coming from the HTC Aria! But a couple questions...
Will battery life improve over a couple of days?
And what's the best Rom/Kernal combo for you guys? Right now I'm on MIUI and its doing great but any personal favorites for you guys?
And what device would have closest hardware? I know the Aria and Wildfire are real close and easy to port. I would like to try some ports.

Expect a little less battery life from the Aria to the Infuse since it has a bigger and better screen it naturally uses a little more battery.

I still have my aria that my kids play with and the battery life on it is actually worse than my infuse. I even have a extended battery in it. It will probably depend on how you have your phone set up.

that aside... welcome to the INFUSE! everyone here is an A-HOLE... but youll learn to love us! lol
and uhh... dont be afraid to brick... its IMPOSSIBLE.. so never fear if you get stuck at the samsung logo or anything else... just use GTG's Unbrick & you'll be fine!
Battery life isn't the greatest, try fully charging it and then leave it charging for a couple hours after that for your first few times to help break it in, regardless it still won't be the best
To increase battery life, try keeping your brightness as low as possible and using a wallpaper that is mostly black. Not only do black backgrounds look sweet due to our samoled+ screens, it saves power as black pixels are completely off. Really, the only time i find myself cranking up the brightness is when I'm outdoors during the day, but that goes for any phone. Also, turn off auto brightness. Uses the cpu unnecessarily, and with most roms you can hold your finger on he notification bar then slide side to side to adjust brightness.
Other than that, welcome!
We're on the same boat Dustin. I recently purchased the infuse 4g due to shattering my atrix. Hopefully it'll get me through to next year when my upgrade is due. I'm also considering buying an extended battery since I've read mixed reviews about the infuse battery life.

I'm a pretty heavy user and I can get through a day.
Also, unless you're obsessed with getting ics pronto, the infuse will definitely still be a great phone for another year. Not top of the line, but its still great in my opinion. We have CM7 and a ton of other great roms, so I think you'll be pleased.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
Yeah coming from the Atrix has me spoiled for dual cores. However, the legendary Super Amoled Plus screen and the possibility of overclocking the 1.2ghz hummingbird keep my hopes up. I also plan on trying out the Miui rom, which I have not seen yet for the Atrix either.
I've personally tried Infused, Illuminance 2.1, and now CatyROM. I didn't think anything would top the speed/functionality of Illuminance, but CatyROM does. It also doesn't have that annoying no-sound-on-first-call (which you have to toggle the speakerphone once to fix) issue and Bluetooth works.
If you place great value on things like Bluetooth and HDMI-out you'll want to stick to AT&T-based Infuse ROMs... not ones that are Galaxy S-based and then ported over to the Infuse.
Don't forget to try different modems, too. They can improve your data network speeds and battery life. They can also ruin those things if the modem isn't a good fit for your specific device.
After switching from Illuminance (which uses the UCKK2 modem) to Caty (which uses UCKK4) I had problems with WiFi not connecting or taking forever... and I'd often lose the ability to send/receive SMS messages. After switching back to the UCKK2 modem everything's perfect again.
Good points, zsdersw.
Putting in my two cents worth in, I recommend the Mitra ROM with the icily modem. Modem has great battery life and the Roms responsiveness is one of the best. Scrolling from one screen to another is very touch sensitive, which I love. Lag is a drag, as we say around here.
Sent from my i997 using XDA App
You all probablythought I created a new modem. Should have read "uckl2" modem.
Damn spell checker!
Sent from my i997 using XDA App
I downloaded the UCKL2 modem, too.. but haven't flashed it. Gonna stick with the UCKK2 modem, that I know my particular Infuse likes, until I get adventurous again

The ideal rom!!

Hello Guys,
Ok so i am running Sbamboo 2.1 (Based on Gb ) right now no complaints it has excellent battery life. I tried Serendipity rom(froyo) it was very bad battery wise and looks were not that charming.Miui(gb) rom was stable and looks were awesome but the battery life was very bad(the phone seems to keep transferring something while on standby mode thru wifi my router leds go berzerk when phone is on standby)
SO my question i have 2 day's off and wud like to try a couple of roms which can provide me good battery life + good and customizable looks if it comes even 50% close to miui looks wise it would be awesome...I have not yet considered any options but i need inputs from you guys
And also what would be the best steps to flash a new rom over a customized rom ? as i always tend to brick my phone switching rom's the steps would save me a lot of trouble

Hello Guys,
Ok so i am running Sbamboo 2.1 (Based on Gb ) right now no complaints it has excellent battery life.

I would get yourself a jig, it'll make your life alot easier when flashing back and fourth. Either make one or order one from mobiletechvideos.com. From there just go to the captivate development section and know your kernel compatibilities with roms, I assume you know of bootloaders and they play. KK4 roms are the most developed for the cappy and they are native cappy stuff. mobiletechvideos also has cappy rom reviews and installation instructions to follow. I'm currently using fasty kk4 edition and it's great good battery life, stock browser has a bug in it but all in all, very good. The kernel I'm on is corn 7.06. Bootloaders are rogers kh2. Fasty is very stock looking. Miui is very different and not many cappy roms look that way. One more thing for now, also know your partition formats, ext 4, rfs. flashing non compatible formats will soft brick your phone, hence the jig. if your familiar with what I've said, then mobiletechvideos will see you through most else. Plus, if you ever hard brick your phone, he will resurrect it. Cheers dude.

Try MIUI v4. For some reason I got better battery life as opposed to the GB version. I used for a couple weeks but switched because the phone signal wasn't displaying accurately. Once that's fixed, I'm going back to it

Best ROM is whatever you find works best for you.

Question about issues

Lately I've been flashing various roms trying to find one I don't have a problem in, on the latest saga3d I get a mobile internet failed connection and have to manually turn it on and off till it connects numerous times a day, firstly I'd like to know if anyone else has had this on any Rom and how they fixed it, also can anyone reccomend a STABLE (no bugs so likely will be a sense based Rom) Rom with good battery life , not ics based as the kernel isn't out yet, thanks

I don't know man... The overwhelming majority of answers about yo flood this thread are going to be Endymion...you'll see soon enough. Don't know why its not working for you. I've yet to come across any sense ROM as trouble free as endymion...

I was running v3.5 till yesterday, but I shifted back to 3.4 last night. Can't really put my finger on it, no bug list really, but it just didn't feel the same... Something felt amiss... I know that's not much of an analysis, but something didn't feel right. Maybe I'm just getting old... But I'm back on 3.4 and its still the best IMO, foe some stupid reason which I don't even know...

I can't really say... battery almost felt the same to me, given that I was running both 3.4 and 3.5 at the same settings... but honestly speaking, I didn't have it on long enough to be able to proffer an educated opinion. If I was asked like my life depended on it, I would venture that battery life on both versions was identical...
My impression on 3.5 was the battery life improved a little bit. But I cannot state clear facts at the moment though.
also IMO the feeling didn't change. It's still the same safe home to come back to after some adventures
I flashed the battery percentage mod cause I don't need the swipe notification feature. It's only one button and all notifications are gone, why deleting them one by one?
