[Q] S-OFF and HTCDev.com Unlock - HTC Sensation

If I have stupidly done the official htcdev.com unlock and I want to S-OFF can I still use the revolutionary S-OFF method. Will doing both the official unlock and the revolutionary method cause any issues? Has anyone tried this?

S-off
I think htc's site just makes your device s-off, but use the revolutionary method because in cases of warranty, htc's site might take a number down from your phone so if you happen to send it back they'll look up that number and you have to pay for the phone again if they found out that you s-off it. plus the revolutionary way is very easy

I have already done the htcdev unlock. My device is unlocked but S-ON. My question is if I do the revolutionary unlock on top of the htcdev unlock will it damage my phone?

The only issue it gave me was wipe all my downloaded apps, contacts, and homescreen layout (everything else was in tact).
I also have some issues getting into the bootloader (sometimes it works, sometimes it dosen't).
I've unlocked the bootloader through HTC Dev, and still have S-On.

I used rev to s-off and tried a few custom roms then flashed the 1.45 euro ruu and then used the htcdev to unlock bootloader againg just to see if it would work as I have a T-Mobile UK branded handset. HTC has 2 levels of unlock you have bootloader unlock and s-off you don't need s-off to flash custom fw just first stage unlock which leaves s-on but you will have a pink bar with unlocked in it at the top of your bootloader. Unlock still has a limited warrenty but s-off voids all warenties

Unlock chacha bootloader?

Ok with the new HTC tool, even though the chacha isn't currently supported, it has been proven that S-OFF is NOT needed to fash a custom recovery. The only thing we need to figure out is how to unlock the bootloader in order to flash CWM. Has anyone tried to flash CWM with S-ON?
Thanks.
i believe the only way to unlock bootloader now is to use xtc clip. Since not most of the chacha owners are not having xtc clip and looks like HTC and revolutionary is not going to release unlock process in near soon; can we people throw a bounty project to unlock bootloader and s-off so that developers can pay some attention here! Not sure if this is acceptable in the forum though
Bootloader and S-OFF are different. XTC Clip gives you S-OFF and not sure about the Bootloader. Bounties are allowed but remember S-OFF is only needed to flash kernels as Bootloader being unlocked allows custom recovery and root regarleas of S status.

[Q] How to s-off my XE?

I cannot s-off my Sensation XE with revolutionary tool.
It says to fill in a form at their site with device type , hboot version and serial number.
I have hboot version 1.27.0000 and the available versions on the form are only 1.17 and 1.18.
Except this when i run the tool it says that "your device , pyramid with hboot 1.27.0000 is not supported at this time".
i have installed the htc driver.
i powered on my phone without hboot (i removed the battery and then turned on).
i have ICS 4.03 version 3.32.468.112 (i got it OTA two days ago).
How can i s-off and then root my phone?
Please help me because i have not done anything like that before.
You have the wrong hboot version. Using revolutionary won't wont work for a phone with the ICS OTS use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611981
That.
you say that i must change my hboot version for it to work?
how is it wrong?
it is the one that my phone had stock.
and how can i change my hboot version?
will be all ok then or my phone will become unstabel or lose something?
Try the tacoroot method. I had a set of detailed instructions somewhere.

If you want S-off you will have to use the Juopunutbear S-off method linked above. Her is z link to the only detailed guide for the Sensation there is now.
Now by all means please understand you will have to use HTC Dev to unlock your bootloader before you can use this S-off method. When you use HTC Dev to unlock your bootloader it can cause you to void your warranty.

Sorry about that, don't know why it did that. I fixed the link in that post now.
does anyone know if there will be a new tool that supports the latest hboot versions?
if there will be i can wait to do it that way because the others seem a little risky to me.
It's Juopauntbear or nothing at the moment, and it works fine.
You can always just use HTCDev unlock for the time being, that let's you flash recovery to swap ROMs & gain root.

i read at their site but i didnt understand much.
what is the juopauntbear method and what is the HTCDev?
the only thing i saw is that you do something with a wire at the phone and i am confused.
is it the same thing or i must do both to s-off?
i entered rhe HTCDev unlock page and it has some instructions.
if i do this will i be able to s-off or i must then do the juopauntbear tricks?
You must do the juopunutbear method if you want to s-off
But befor that you must use the HTCDev and root
You must understand that yll lose your warranty if you use the HTCDev method.
so the only way now to s-off with hboot 1.27 is juopunutbear right?
What exactly do the HTCDev then? I see that unlocks the bootloader.
I think is in different order than with revolutionary tool (first s-off then root then anything else but with this method you need first Htcdev then root then s-off) or am i wrong?
HTCDev does not unlock the bootloader only parts of it, so thats why you have to first unlock via HTCDev and then root and finaly s-off with Juopunutbear...Thats the only way to fully unlock your bootloader

Understood.
That is the only way until revolutionary release a new tool that supports the new hboot versions i think.
I think i can wait a little more for s-off.
Thank you all for your help and your time.

Using htcdev keeps the phone S-ON. You'll still be able to run custom roms, but can't flash a new radio.

I refered to a you tube video " How to S-off htc desire s" the first video that shows up. My phone is already rooted using the hdc dev kit, however when I am trying to do s-off the software gives just a message "Error". It also fails at signature.
do let me know what more information can I provide.
If you have a guide that I can try and share the results with you do send me that as well. I am new to rooting the phone, so sorry for not providing any info that is required.
You either htcdev unlock or you s-off
You'll now need to relock your phone to undo the htcdev and then downgrade you phone in order to properly s-off using revolutionary.
There are various downgrade guides in the index, see link on my signature

No, it's S-ON, but writable on /system partition due to HTCDev unlock. It only means that you don't know the difference between S-OFF, rooting and HTCDev unlock - and misleading others.

Then please tell me why my Bootloader says:
*unlocked*
SAGA PUT SHIP S-OFF RL
S-OFF ... Security off
Rooting ... Grant root for the device, like su on linux
HTCDev unlock ... unlocks the bootloader
But its ok I just tried to help...
Then you can try to avoid confusion providing more detailed info, like:
"I have used XTC Clip to gain S-OFF, then used htcdev.com, without any particular reason, then got rooted by SuperOneClick"
Your previous post can mislead some non advanced users that SOC can provide S-OFF, without using additional tools.

Ok..
I unlocked my HTC Desire S following the instructions on HTCDev.com. Afterwards I rooted the Phone, installed Busybox and installed ClockworkMod Recovery using the SuperOneClick tool for Windows 7.
And now I am able to flash Rom and Radios.
Nope to upgrade your Radio you have to be S-OFF
Maybe it was shipped with S-OFF because I had a brandig first.
I doubt that it was shipped S-OFF and even if, why would you unlock it with HTCdev ?

And you can flash radios only because you had a phone which already was S-OFF, either during manufacturing or by XTC-Clip, and you just didn't understand it and uselessly unlocked it while you could have done whatever you wanted with it. And S-OFF is the only reason you can flash radios, and HTCDev unlock didn't actually add anything and didn't allow you anything - just as it won't allow any non-S-OFF user to flash radios, and won't turn S-ON to S-OFF. But what do I know, I was just passing here.

It is unlikely, but certainly possible. In the early days of Desire S development (back when we had to use the XTC-Clip hardware to obtain S-Off) there were some people who got their devices brand new already S-Off.
ok, back to the topic:
the simpliest way to gain s-off without xtc-clip is to downgrade the bootloader to HBOOT 0.98, and gain S-OFF with Revolutionary. After you did this you can run the latest ruu, which doesn't influence wether your s-off or s-on. Finally, you've got a device with hboot 2.02 and s-off.
After using revolutionary you are already S-OFF!
If you want to upgrade your HBOOT don't run a RUU AFAIK it could brick your device ... use this tutorial
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679338
Do you know the differences between Radio HBOOT S-OFF root etc?

I have to disagree @Jack_R1 the unlock via htcdev wasn't completely useless as it managed to void his HTC warranty! logging that fact with HTC in the process!
we can only try...........:silly:

[Q] S-Off from bootloader?

So I was going to buy a new phone, and trade in my sensation for it, so I reverted to stock. Except I installed the wrong RUU for my region and only noticed after re-enabling s-on, and then I was really stupid and tried to flash the right rom.zip while it was s-on and now my phone only boots into the bootloader... how can I S-off and reinstall the right RUU from only the bootloader? Revolutionary is constantly waiting for my device and htc's token id unlocker isn't recognising it either, and when it does it always comes up with an error

do you have htc drivers installed?
if now you have 1.17-1.18 hboot version then revolutionary.io method is the only way to S-OFF

That depends on how you gained s-off. If you did it via revolutionary then there is a fast boot command that allows you to flash a stock hboot. This will make you s-on again and your hboot should become locked but such moves can be dangerous if you are not fully on stock. Some htc devices like the htc sensation will brick if you return to s-on and are not fully stock, as the hboot detects that custom software is being used and it refuses to boot. Which leaves you in quite a pinch as you would need s-off to fix it :/
If you used the xtc clip to gain s-off then the same dangers apply but you need a different fastboot command. In order to return to locked and not relocked you would need to edit your misc partition with a hex editor to show it has never been unlocked.
Lastly if you are s-off by xtc clip, but using the revolutionary hboot for the bonus fastboot commands you would need to run then revolutionary hboot downgrade command, then do the hex editing and finally run the xtc clip s-on command.
