Hi All
Let me start by saying what a wicked forum, I love it!!
Hopefully I wont get shot for this.
I have tried the search function and read a number of posts, but it has just confused me.
I have an unbranded HTC Sensation 2.3.3 s-off and rooted.
I want to update it to 2.3.4, I have had the OTA notification and the install failed.
My question is, do I have to install a custom ROM, or is there away to install the OTA update. I know I will probably lose root.
Thank you
Kam
You must be on stock ROM and stock recovery. Not sure if root matters

You can always get the Ruu.exe and extract the recovery image and make a flashable zip. There are numerous threads about it.

i have rooted my phone and installed various roms via rom manager but am now using the stock xe room from my backup.
I want to be able to get the ota update but will i still get it while my phone is rooted etc?
my device says ***locked*** and 's' off
does this matter?
is there anyway to completley wipe the device and start all over again so it would be as if when i first got it so as to enable the new update.
thanks for the help.

Install the latest RUU for your device then you will be back to stock.
S-off will remain but this doesn't matter as it will not prevent you from recieving stock ota updates.
Thanks for the reply,
It now seems that somehow I have installed another Rom that I had previously downloaded from Rom manager and when I now try to find my back up of my original sensation xe UK sim free back up I can't find it anywhere.
Can anyone post me a link to the original xe firmware that I can download and then install from recovery and then I can get the offical ics update.
Thanks.

Hi
First of all, I have an HTC Inspire 4G and I have a friend that also have the HTC Inspire 4G. He installed a lot of ROMs in your HTC. The point is that he want to return to the stock ROM (Gingerbread 2.3.3) but he didn't backup your phone to restore them with the stock ROM. I installed some ROMs in my HTC, but before that, I realized a backup of my phone with the ROM Manager and ClockworkMod, later I restore the backup to return to the stock ROM. So my question is, can he use my backup to restore your phone with the stock ROM?
I hope that you can help me.
Thank you,

USE ONLY IF ROOTED!!! Place in root of SD Card (Not in any folder) install by powering up into hboot with power button and volume down at same time. Let it do its thing volume up for yes top install when asked. Let it do its thing then reboot when asked.
You wont lose root.
THX to Gene Poole
If you want to get rid of root use Ace Hack Kit. (Instead)
thank you

Thank you, I will try this with my friend.
You can also use the ace hack kit to return to stock with out losing root.
You will lose root, but not s-off if you choose so.

I flashed the RUU and am using the stock ROM image. Unfortunately flashing the latest AT&T image update to Gingerbread 3.2.5 fails. Granted, my firmware is still vulnerable and my recovery partition still has CWM on it. Advice how to install the latest official update on top of a rooted HTC Inspire 4g would be appreciated
Thanks,

just have a few questions
i have a bell samsung s3 model SGH-I747M , i have android version (stock) 4.0.4 , i have rooted my device
however, i want to update to jelly bean 4.1.2 , i was wondering, do i update using the stock software or will that cause my phone to trip since it is rooted? or do i use a jellybean update made for rooted devices? should i even update? or use the ROMs for the current version ?
also, what is the best ROM for s3? is there one where u can control CPU usage on board ?
thank you
anybody :/ ?
Well if you like stock unroot your phone and put stock recovery back on to get the ota update. You need stock recovery to get it. So if you haven't installed clockworkmod or twrp recoveries and are still on stock you're fine, just unroot. You can always reroot. If you'd like to try custom ROMs go to search your phone up top and you'll find ROMs made for your phone.

Ok. qbking77 on YouTube probably has a video out showing ya how to do it depending on your model of phone. Just search his videos "how to flash stock recovery" and "stock jelly bean" with your carrier varient. they are the easiest to follow. Make sure its your carrier or youll brick your phone. Once you flash a stock ROM that specifies "not rooted" you won't have to unroot.

When you install stock ROMs your phone will no longer be rooted. Some roms were created with root pre installed. So if you use them you will have root. If you want to update your phone with an "over the air" update, you will need stock recovery And a stock ROM . But if it were me I would just keep custom recovery and find a rooted stock ROM to download. Sorry I didn't reply sooner

First of all, i'm a noob at rooting, flashing custom roms and kernels, et al, so please, have patience..
I just want to know guys IF it's true that the One S will receive 4.2.2 and Sense 5, will i be able to receive it via settings>about>software updates, even i'm rooted, with CWM recovery, but on stock ROM? And if in case i received it, is it safe to download and install? I've read somewhere that you must be on stock recovery before applying an OTA, plus i can't find again where i've read that, and i also don't know how to revert back to stock recovery, unroot and lock the bootloader since i used hasoon's tool kit in rooting..
A little help will definitely appreciated..

Okay first of all, it will take some time before the update reaches our One S. But yes you'll have to unroot + stock recovery + relock bootloader.
But again we are not sure if the update will be OTA or on HTCdev.
When it does, it's not difficult to Unroot + flashing stock recovery. The easiest is to lock bootloader.
So don't worry chum and roam around in the forums and you'll get all you need to become eligible to receive the update.
It's pretty early to worry about the update.
