STRAIGHT TALK UNLIMITED PLANS CANNOT BE USED FOR: (1) access to the Internet, intranets, or other data networks except as the device’s native applications and capabilities permit, or (2) any applications that tether your device to a laptop or personal computer other than for the use of Wireless Sync.

Will do data and voice over 3g

Both phandroid and Droid life have confirmed that this phone will not only do data and voice over 4g but 3g as well. Yeah! Just another thing to be excited about
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
No. simultaneous data and voice is not possible over cdma. They are both wrong. What might happen is voice will go over cdma and data over lte or both will transmit over lte. If you live in an area without lte, you are out of luck.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
how is it possible?
since the new iPhone 4 will do it apperntly they have figured out a way to do it, and you guys only think its not possible because thats what verizon has aalways said, and ven if it doesnt, who the hell cares, who wants to talk and look at the web at the same time
What should work and should not and why (I work on the network)
Ok, I am an engineer working on VZW's network, as well as in the past worked on GSM stuff as well. The reason that VZW could not do voice and data at the same time is because CDMA voice, 1xRTT data, 2G voice, 3G voice, EVDO REV0 and REVA all use the same channel groupes. VZW uses channels 283, 242, 201, 160, 78, 37, and 1019 in the 800 A Band, and with Alltel Acquisition now has 466, 548, 589, and so fourth, the PCS spectrum is abundant too. The LTE is on 700 mhz so uses a different set of radios so could in theory run it at the same time as voice since it would use the other radios to do it. Thats the reason it can work but if they write the software to do it is another thing. They might not because of battery life, would be like running 2 phones off the same battery at the same time. The iPhone will not do it because it will not be LTE ;-)
You could be entirely right as I'm not an engineer for Verizon so I'm not sure, just going off of info based on what I believe I read on one of the android blogs. You can actually talk and surf at the same time. All you need is speakerphobe or headphones ans I wifi connection lol. But I'm pretty sure that anyone on these forums knows that;-)

I don't know how exactly, but I've been told that you will be able to do simultaneous voice and data on 3g but they are not advertising it because you can only use 1X data.

Haha again I believe you. But I know a little dirt secret if you are close to a wifi router.

Fixed your quote for you, one word SVDO.
I wonder if they're doing VOIP trick so they are techinally only doing data alone.
There's nothing prevent HTC from directing the phone dialer through their own VOIP applicaiton.
Also, the iPhone on verizon will not be doing simultaneous voice/data.
So, this is like when you are talking to someone on the phone, you are able to look up stuff like on Maps and all that right?
If Its what I am thinking of..I am able to do that on my Eris(albeit, it is rooted..but..)

That's a pretty fancy trick. Run the voice call on the 1X and leave the EVDO open for the data...I like it.
I hate to tell u this but I can almost promise you that your Eris can only do it when your wifi is on. I have a rooted Eris in my hand running kaos froyo as we speak, it will NOT do it unless wifi is on.

You in the wrong forum by any chance? We're talking about the Thundebolt here not the Droid Eris.
He was probably referring to my post
and yes I know that.
Family Guy: I was referring to your post, I just had a huge argument with a Guy in the Eris forums about this exact issue. He insisted that kaos froyo would do both. I insisted that there Is nothing that kaos could do or anyone else to make data and voice work over 3g on any Verizon phone that is currently being sold. And he insisted that his Eris would. I asked him if his wifi was on, he insisted that wifi and 3g wouldn't run at the same time. Anyway, this went on for like 20 private messages and I finally agreed that he has the only Verizon EVER Has ever sold. It could be worth millions. Again, sorry if I sound like a ****. No harm intended. Can't wait for the ****ing thunderbolt.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Oh thats hilarious!
Yeah. You will see the Guy I ended up going through the argument with in one ofbthe kaos threads. It all started with him saying that his rooted Eris smoke his all his friends DInc's and lets be honest, if u have ever played with both, you know that's not an accurate statement. On a positive note, you guys check out some YouTube videos of the second Gen. Snapdragon processors, damn!!! They were smoking!!! There is a video on android forums or phone arena with the thunderbolt getting a 2150 with no task killer and that's pretty damn good. I know the entire stigma aelround benchmarks as I've been around here for a while(700+ post) but it takes a fast phone to get that without a "lagfix" synthetically driving up scores

[Q] sprint data question?

ok someone brought this up to me and i have no idea as to if they are right or wrong and sprints customer service didn't really help. so i turned to the great xda community in the hope of finding an answer.
so im going on a road trip relatively soon and someone sayed that if you are using 3g while out of your "home area" if you will. that there is not a data cap for 4g but there is one for 3g even when not roaming. so what i would like to know is if the 3g cap is true or not and if so how big is it "5gb, 2gb, etc." because i plan on tethering my evo to my laptop and since 4g is pretty much nowhere i will probably be using 3g and don't want to have to pay some outrageous "you use the internet to much" charge on my bill.
p.s. i have a 1500 shared unlimited plan
come on someone has to have some kind of answer to this
Don't qoute me but I'm pretty sure that if there is a cap (2gb?) Its just a soft cap. IF they believe its being abused, the most they will do is throttle your data speeds. But really they will only notice if you're a long time offender. Even then, I've read many posts on xda from people saying they hit 5gb+ every month with no problem.

[Q] AT&t unlimited data trick

My question is, will it renew my contract if I do this? The person that I'm on a plan with wants to stay off contract.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using XDA App
I don't see why it would. Its just a change in your data plan. Not a contact renewel. I did not have to renew.
There its a huge thread for the data trick here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008698&highlight=iphone+2
Thank you for your reply.
Yeah I was originally on that thread trying to browse through it. But like you said it's a "huge" thread and using the xda app is about useless when using the search button lol.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using XDA App
Yeah, search is awful on the xda app.
Basically, I did the iTunes 2g thing. It just made me agree to the $20 a month edge network plan. My infuse worked fine but I got the text that tells you to get a 3g or better plan. So I went into the store, nobody had "unlimited" come up on their screens. I called 611 a few times before I found someone chill and I figured out how to word what I wanted without sounding sketchy. I was Hella nice and asked the rep if she could see "smartphone personal" on her screen. I'm doing the $35 plan w/ 200 texts.
Also, I just checked and my contract renewel is still may 2013, so it was unaffected by the data plan change
I have another question, if someone can answer =]
So I activated the plan with the iPhone. Now I was wondering if I can use that same SIM card and put it into my infuse without using the data so they wont ask me to upgrade my plan.
So in other words, check off the part in the settings in the infuse that says "Data Enabled" and still be able to use the same SIM card that I used to activate the iPhone 2g. Or will they be able to detect the switch and send me a notification to upgrade my plan?

its better that they detect it. so they can switch you over to the 4G unlimited data. and either way they will know what phone you are using.
if you activated the iPhone already, just go ahead and call in and tell them to switch you over to the data unlimited that you are no longer using that iPhone. thats what i did when i activated the data unlimited when i had the Atrix. they shouldn't give you a buzz about it.

Yeah I know. I can't afford the 4g unlimited for $30 at the moment until I find another job. I wasn't ever on a data plan to begin with, I've been using my Infuse on wifi. I did the data trick so I can at least have it already on my plan till I can afford it, so it will be more of a credible reasoning for them to switch me onto the unlimited smartphone data, since ill have it for a while.
I was mainly asking if I can switch between phones, having it so my Infuse doesn't use any data, seeing that I see that option in system settings.

Carriers

Does anyone know of any other Gsm carriers that I can use my unlocked t-mobile sensation 4G on?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
GSM or CDMA? Search google for you country operators.Ah what the heck ill do it for europe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mobile_network_operators_of_Europe
In the U.S some good options are simple mobile, and straight talk. Both will give you "4g" data but at different price points.
Straight Talk is $45 for "unlimited" talk, text, and data. The problem with them is that they are known to completely cut you of and kick you of the network for "excess" data use. Some people report this coming as soon as 1gb of data. Most say 2 gb. If they do kick you of the network it is virtually impossible to get your # back so tread with caution. If you do chose straight talk make sure you order a t-mobile sim.
Simple Mobile offers two plans. $40 for unlimited talk, text, and"3g" data but most people say that this"3g" data is more like 2g data. They also offer "unlimited" talk, text, and "4g" data for $60. Most people say that they trottle you if you cross 2gb of data.
There are other options that run on att's network but you wont be able to get 3g or 4g data with them.
Check out Howard Forums for more info. They are great site for carrier information. I can't post a link because im new here but just google search them.
Hope this helps!!!
You order a new t-mobile sim card through t-mobile or straight talk?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
You order the t-mobile compatible sim through straight talk. To find out the process to activate and transfer the # i would call straight talk. I don't have them so I don't know the specifics about how to activate.
Thanks I appreciate all that information.

[Q] 4g with straight talk

is it possible to buy the att sim card from straight talk for my 4g t-mobile galaxy. get on the $45 UNLIMITED EVERYTHING from straight talk and get the 4g speeds. only reason i want to do this is att has 4g coverage where i live. can only get 4g with t-mobile 30 miles away where i work. att has a lot more 4g coverage. ive seen on google where this is being done with straight talk. and its cheaper too. thanks
Yes, use this to unlock your phone for other carriers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419468
If you don't want the trouble of installing busybox, use this instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1978974
But however the flash method is currently known to work on ICS only. FB is working on a fix for GB.

my phone is already unlocked. my main question is can 4g be achieved through straight talk
I would say yes because my friends S2 (T-mobile) worked for Simple Mobile. Simple Mobile goes under TracFone Wireless Inc. which owns both Simple Mobile and Straight Talk.
Or as long as they support HSDPA your good to go!
So when your getting a plan from Straight Talk make sure to ask them if they support HSDPA.

It depends on the sim card you get I have heard reports that the 4g on our phones does not work well on at&t but if you get a T-Mobile supported sim should be no problem.

This statement made me laugh. Asking them this will only create anger issues. The support people I have dealt with NEVER have a clue.
Its cool tho. People if you consider going to Straight Talk be prepared to have almost no tech support.
As posted above att will be iffy on this phone. If you are looking to get better data speeds I suggest steering away from Straight Talk there is a unknown daily data cap. And it sounds like you are looking to get faster data speeds to do something that will probably put you over the daily data cap. At that point Straight Talk will cancel your service and you have to call and ***** to get it turned back on. Hopefully they will publish something on what the daily limit is soon.

The only problem with trying to expand your 4g coverage by using a at&t sim thru straight talk is the T-Mobile 4g and At&t 4g work differently. Some of at&t 4g coverage is actually 4g lte which this phone does not support. Even their hspa+ network may be configured slightly different. Bhundven has an unlocked sgs4g and has tried his At&t sim and has reported that the 4g does not work well on it. Barely even gets 4g reception and dismal speeds at that.
