Hi, all. I wanted to create my own boot animation so I've been tinkering around with it and wanted to post to get some feedback. It's nothing fancy, and I've only tested on Serendipity VII, but if you'd like to give it a go I've included the zip file.
I've attached a preview as well (can't post links yet). It's not quite as slow as the gif file, but that was the easiest way for me to get a preview of it.
Any and all feedback is appreciated. Like I said, I made this for myself, but wanted to share with this awesome community.
Installation Instructions:
1. Place bootanimation.zip on your sdcard
2. Using a root explorer, mount your system as r/w
3. Move or copy bootanimation.zip to system/media (rename to sanim.zip if on a non-Hellraiser ROM)
4. Reboot
*I would suggest making a backup of your current bootanimation.zip file in case this does not work with your current ROM
Excuse my ignorance but how do you install this animation? CWM? Copy/Paste? How do you enable it? I am running Infused 2.1.0 and have the stock animation while booting and would love to use this one.

Both ways are possible and I see the OP does not state the way.
It won't hurt to try flashing with cwm.... If it's not cwm compatible it just won't work....
And if it does not work then just push it to your system using a root explorer....

Your kernel needs to support alternate bootanimations and if rooted make the system/media dir. Read/Write accessible then you can copy and paste the zip to that dir. Now depending on the kernel you may need to rename the file to something like sanim.zip like with the latest infusion 1.1 kernel.
Apologies for not posting installation instructions. Updating OP with the method I used.
Nice. I really like it. Could you make one that just says INFUSE? Keep up the good work.

Thanks! Be happy to make you one. Same animation, just take off "Accept No Substitutes"?
Yes, please kind sir. I have the one on now. Loving it.
You can try this one out. Removed "Accept No Substitutes".
*Edit*
The attached file is incorrect and still has "Accept No Substitutes". If you would like one without, please see post #16.

I followed this tutorial here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096068
There's also a tool to help you make them here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17011722
I've only been able to get the tool to work if I have part0 and part1 folders (the tutorial explains those). You can unzip the file I posted to get an idea of what to make as well. I did this with the original boot animation on my ROM.

What would we have to do to make this work on Fresh 2.3.3? I've never messed with bootscreens like this so I have no idea. This is possibly one of the coolest boots I've seen though.
I'm curious about this also.

I think boot.img's are diffrent for sense and non-sense roms. just a guess. cause i see when people make them for sense they say they don't work on vanilla roms or visa versa. so i think you'd have to make a whole new one.

correct, i ripped apart fresh2.3.3 and he has a boot1.gif in the /system/media/bootanimation folder
on darch and froyo they have a bootanimation.zip in the /system/media folder. my guess is to take all the images in the bootanimation.zip in the part0 and possibly part1 folder stitch them together in photoshop(you can resize here too) make an animated gif, open in gimp and deoptimize then resave as animated gif. name boot1.gif and push to the /system/media/bootanimation folder.
i just adb pushed this to /system/media on zen exp and it works and it's bad ass

I can also confirm this method as working by doing the same using Fresh 2.3.3 (a sense UI based rom also). Happy booting decepticons!
I tried pushing this after I installed the CS6 test 4 with no luck. I still get the custom boot that was originally on it and DD2.7. After I push it, it shows that it was successful and give the size of the file transferred, but when I reboot I get the same one.
i pushed a custom gif using the images in this boot and it was either blank or it was small and different pixels like it was a bad res any ideas how to get it to work im using fresh 2.3.3
awesome guys glad you found an easier fix. for the froyo user i pushed it just fine i'm on cm6 test 4. pm me if you need help.
I'll try to retry it here in a few hours when I get off work. If I am still unsuccessful, I'll send you a PM. It's good to find another Kansan on here.
I figured out my problem, since I had just redone my Hero with the new CS ROM, I forgot to turn on USB debugging. Retried the steps and was successful.

This is a mod for the lockscreen so that the capacitive menu button is disabled for unlocking. This has been tested on Vanilla Lockscreens, but should work the same on HTC Lockscreens. This also has been tested on 3.29* based sense roms, unsure if it will work with other bases. If you have other fixes (i.e. reboot button change) you will overwrite that. Please post if you need me to upload a fixed version of that. Thanks goto ViRuS for the idea, and brut.all/jesus freke for apktool.
Instructions:
Download flashable zip.
NANDROID NANDROID NANDROID? did i miss something?
Reboot into recovery.
Flash zip and reboot.
That was easy wasn't it?
No more accidental unlockings!
Cookers/Developers: If this does not work for your rom, PM me and i can make individual flashable updates.
Rom users: reply to the thread with the base rom that it does not work on. I can find the base myself and make a list of updates.
Edit: It will take awhile to reboot, because i added a cache and dalvik-cache wipe to the update script.
Added mediafire mirror.

You are the man! My phone is nearly complete I just need something to get rid of this tmobile boot and shutdown animations.
Go to the themes and apps section and check out the original vibrant bootanimations. It rocks compared to the stock pink stuff.
Thats where this thread is. Can you link the thread? I cant find what you mean.
Srry i don't know how to link the thread but its on the same page as this. Just go to [mod] original galaxy s bootup and shutdown screens and the instructions are in the op. Hope that helps.
I just posted on the thread you are looking for so it should be at the top of the thread list now.
Make sure to flash the theme first then the boot animations, there is not enough room for both on the /system partition so a few of the shutdown images will be missing. But still better than stock.
If you flash the boot animations first you may brick and have to odin back.
Hes right b carefull! If u want u can just extract the files from the zip and then just use root explorer or the like and overwrite all the files manually. Thats how i did it.

It is actually better to flash via CWM, root explorer is more likely to give you "not enough space error" then you will have problems on reboot.
CWM will write over existing files and generally works really well.
I thought doing it via cwm would get me a brick if I have already themed?

No way to edit .qmg files without qmage software...which is proprietary...which means it's expensive. Samsung mainly uses this devil-spawn file format in their Bada OS.
Edit:I spoke with a couple guys ok the Bada forums (rather I PMed them a few months back) who have edited these files and never received an answer from them. Perhaps you might have better luck...perhaps not.

I'm not sure if the custom ROMs will support the qmg boot anis. I haven't tried them.
The worst I can see happening is it won't work and you'll end up withe the plain android boot, or it will and it will be "watermarked" with the android. Somewhere in the past there was a post floating around on how to fix the "watermarked" boot but I can't remember where I saw it. Hope this is helpful

Can I get an updated link please
I have to sell my computer because I'm moving. I won't be able to make these for a while. They're very easy to do on your own though.
First, download this image and don't change its name.
This has probably been described a thousand times here, but I'm posting instructions for newcomers.
Steps:
1 - Extract ROM of your choice
2 - Navigate to /system/framework
3 - Using 7zip, open (don't extract) framework-res.apk
4 - Navigate to /res/drawable-nodpi/
5 - Drag background_holo_dark.png into the folder. It will replace the original
6 - Close 7zip window
7 - Using 7zip, open (don't extract) the original ROM download .zip
8 - Navigate to /system/framework
9 - Drag the edited framework-res.apk into that folder. It will replace the original
10 - Flash ROM
Using these instructions, you can take any .zip package made for Clockworkmod if you want to flash it after you install the ROM. Just delete folders except for meta-inf and drag a folder with the following directory structure into the .zip package: system/framework/framework-res.apk
That's it.
FLASH IN CLOCKWORKMOD -- ALWAYS BACK UP FIRST!!!!!!!!
Credit to endursa for making the dithered background image
I took endursa's image and put it into a flashable zip for Clockworkmod. It worked fine on my device. YMMV
No more gross banding on the uninstall screen and wherever that background exists in the UI.
I know there was already a zip for this mod by KamikaZeeFu, but it didn't work on my stock (rooted, unlocked) AT&T One X because KamikaZeeFu built it for VillainTheme, so it didn't flash.
UPDATE: I'll add links for other ROMs, because if you flash one of these on a custom ROM it will likely screw things up.
This overwrites anything you have might have modified in framework-res.apk

No problem.
And I totally agree. First of all, this should have been the image used in the stock build. Second, everyone who makes a custom ROM should consider including this image. Third, this image is used so often on the phone that it almost ruined the expericne for me before I found the original thread with that image in it. It's really easy to put this into any ROM, but if anyone is scared to mess with it, or just doesn't feel like it, let me know and I'll make more. I'll continue to make them until ROM cooks and developers start putting it in their ROMs.
Otherwise, there are tutorials for making/modifying your own flashable zips, but I can post a short tutorial later for any new people here. My daughter is using my computer to watch a movie right now.
I just finished a semester of learning C++. I'm going to try to learn Java over the summer to get a head start before next semester. Maybe I'll finally be able to contribute more in the near future. I've been saying that for almost two years... but I'm working on it.

Or just put it in the ROM before you flash. That's what you're asking, right?

Worked great and looks awesome!

Thanks for this fix!
After further use this mod seems to break CleanROM 2.1 reboot menu. Not sure about anything else.
I also am not sure if it has anything to do with CleanRom being deodexed.
