Hi, i just updated my Galaxy tab to 2.3.3 Gingerbreab, and i want to install some good apps.
So, can someone tell me which app is better for my Galaxy Tab?
First, i want a good browser. Which is better: Dolphin HD, xScope or Stock Browser ?
Then, i want a good music player. I used playerpro and poweramp, but i didn't know which is better.
I want to watch some xvid and mkv movies and i don't know what player to choose.
How can i see when my tablet is fully charged ? Can you recomend me some good apps or widgets ?
Thanks.
Web browser: Dolphin HD
Email client: K9-mail
Launcher: Go Laucher Ex
Backup: Titanium backup
RSS reader: Pulse
Browser: Dolphin HD is very powerful and has a very good UI. For a lighter, cleaner and potentially quicker browser without the functions, try Miren Browser. (Sorry, but i found xScope to be pretty crap on my Tab)
Music Player: Although PlayerPro is pretty good (and has the neat ratings transfer function), PowerAMP is amazing so it definitely takes the prize here. See http://goo.gl/7Zyny
Video Player: This is a very personal choice and I would advocate trial and error to see which one can play your particular files the best. As a shortlist I would try out VPlayer, Vital Player, QQPlayer, RockPlayer and any others you see around the Market with good reviews.
And I would suggest Smart Battery Monitor for your battery needs. Very effective.
Hope that helps
battery solo widget looks great. it changed his color while charging and
when you tab on it, it shows the temperatur of the battery.

Browser I recommend Dolphin Mini, lightweight counterpart to Dolphin HD.
Music player, Power Amp hands down.
Movies, Moboplayer is the one. (I personally like all my movies in one "universal" format that everything i have plays, mp4, so I have a habit of converting everything as I download them to mp4, HD or SD.)
Battery Indicator Pro is a great battery monitor/status app.
I'm not a Widgets person.

Thanks for the help.
I installed Dolphin Mini, ProPlayer, Vplayer, K9-Mail, but i still didn't know which app is better for battery.
I like Battery Indicator Pro, but i have some questions:
1. That timers: Light usage left, Heavy usage left, i can set them manually or they will be set automatically?
•ADW launcher
•dolphin HD
•thumb keyboard
•greader
•kindle/aldiko
•mobo player
•poweramp
•tweetdeck
Just a couple of suggestions based on my tastes

Those are automatic estimates (guess-timates) based on current usage. It's like your laptop telling you how much battery life you have left based on your usage (power profile). It's not something that is to be "set manually".
videoplayer = moboplayer, best i've ever used, even play asf when samsung stock player cant open it (dun even know what kind of format is that, but i got from a friend)
browser i prefer opera mobile
musicplayer, i like that wp7 player with a nice ui, i use samsung stock for concert hall mode on, power amp is good for equalizing
while launcher, i like the sophstication of windows phone 7, so i go with launcher 7
not really practical, but for me its cool
Root Uninstaller

Hi Buddy,
If you want some performance for all your interested apps try "Root Uninstaller" and get rid of unused stock apps. It will improve tab's performance + bat life.

I've tried different music players and to me there's no clear winner as all seem to have some good qualities but also some drawbacks. So I'm wondering what music player you have been using and why.
Lately I've been using mixzing which has most of the features I want. There aren't many drawbacks, except I wish there was a skin option (I would like to have bigger buttons while playing in portrait mode) and the possibility of launching it and have the music that was playing last start immediately (like an ipod). I also wish it would somehow integrate with the stock lock screen showing the music currently playing.
s2p
The best I have seen is the s2p. It is ipod style.

Interested in this as well. I'm still using the stock music player that came with my EVO.

I quite like the standard one but I would like one with some huuge buttons (app or widget) and less emphasis on artwork, for practicality

I haven't yet found any player with really big buttons, but I just tried btunes like some people suggested and it has gesture support, which is pretty good too and integrates somewhat with the screen lock. The only problem is the ugly iphone skin.
MixZing is awesome and so is MusicMod (for Froyo).
The latter is free.
mixzing is good, I was using cube for a while!

big buttons, effects, equalizer... everything you need in a music player.
Meridian is cool.

Me, i'm using cube... It's new, it's great, it's beautiful...
Hi!
I`ve had my Desire for a couple of weeks now and,I started using the built in musicplayer..And after a while I downloaded Meridian since I did hear a lot of good things about the app.But for a couple of days ago,I was out walking (exersicing.. !! ",) ).It was raining an ocean,so I pluged in some earbuds started up Meridian an started playing some downloaded podcasts. After I have drayned I went online and found out that 3 Cubed was recomended for a nice 3D-effect cube (some sort of eyecandy..)But that wasnt the thing that made me switch,it was that the widget was smaller then Meridian and that I was able to change musictracks just by pressing the ON/off key on my cellphone and unlock. That was handy becouse I have an lockpattern on my cell. That means I could save me some toutches
As a multimedia-player (videoplayer and steamingplayer) they olso play music but Ive started using 3 as the prefferd player. If I have recorded videoes with my cell I often just use the built in or Meridain (I havent uninstalled it yet..Even thou Im running out off storrage on the "inernal".Since I havent rooted my cellphone and the OFFICIAL 2.2 ROM adjustments to Desire is HTC christmaspresent too me).The same goes when Im watching streams from TED or other sites.
I know that Meridian allow me too set "always on while playing"-setting but I found out that 3 solution was so nice that I might just uninstall Meridian since I need all the space I can get on Deisre
Just my 2 cents.
EDIT:Some letters had dissapeard and some of them was changing places on my reply
bTunes
After being disappointed with the built in player for HTC Legend, i tried many free music apps, like doubleTwist, 3, zimly, TuneWiki, meridian, Music Player etc etc. Everyone had one or two cool features and one or two drawbacks. Design, function, bugs, etc.
i finally found bTunes and went ahead and bought it.
It does look exactly like the player in iphone, but it has loads of features and settings, like for podcast/audiobooks, a lock screen (on top of the regular), cover art downloads automatically, lots of sorting options, etc. To sum it up, it feels more robust and one feels that a lot of thought as been put into it.
Although i must admit this is the only paid player i have tested, but all my needs are satisfied with this one, so i neednt look any further.
MixZing is the only one I've tried that I like more than the stock player. The lock screen and widget choices are what sold me. Well worth the seven dollars. I agree with the OP that skins would be a welcomed feature, but isn't a dealbreaker for me as long as the interface looks refined (which it is).
FOr now Im using Museek. Its not perfect, but its free, has pretty solid sound quality, and has a few nifty features with no real drawbacks.
Subsonic for music streaming. I keep almost nothing on my phone anymore and it works great.
Ambling for audio books.
Dog catcher for podcasts. Older program but works great.

Spotify is the best music player I've used.
doubleTwist all the way, works great, looks great, sync great with its partner PC/Mac app.
I was wondering which music player app would be the best for battery life! Winamp, from my experience, is an avid power eater, and I'm not sure about PowerAmp :/
So, any feedback/experience from other players that you might want to share?
8 to 10% per hour on mp3 is typical, more for aac.
Use stock player. As khaytsus said, 8-10% in a hour is pretty normal!
any battery usage trade off i make with poweramp is 100% worth it to me. that app (pro version) led me to sell my ipod, and just buy a bigger sd card for my phone.
Mixzing Media Player is the best!

Woah that is serious ah! =)
Download Osmonitor from the market & check how much % of the cpu is being used.
For the desire HD, the stock music app actually uses less than 5%, while songbird was using 20-30%.
@Soulofkorea: It's the ugliest!
But yeah, PowerAmp = Nice polished UI, EQ and overall awesome!

The quality of my life would be greatly reduced if I did not have nostrils.
Music apps that require network access (to DL album art, lyrics, etc.) will use more battery and data. So either turn these features off or use a player without those.
I routinely use poweramp and have not noticed it being a battery hog with wired headphones or bluetooth.
hmm.. winamp? drains less power 1 hour = 5%
If only Winamp has EQ.

Minimalistic players use the same codecs everyone else uses, with very few exceptions, and in general it's the codec decoding which uses CPU and therefore battery.
Otherwise, as mentioned, downloading album art or scrobbling will use more as well, but generally can be disabled.
So basically, in your experience, most players consume the same power, as long as their network options are disabled?
Thanks for the quick replies
Hey gang-
I've learned alot in 48 hrs. I rooted my phone and added vegaN gingerbread.
I have a problem with my clock not being correct after each reboot. Could anyone help me out.
Also was curious what music player likes intunes for ipod that you guys use to store and create playlists in.
And what movie player works best for avi movies I download.
THANKS, Love the fact I have a tablet that I paid $225 for and it is getting massive use! oh, oh, oh how do you check your speed like I see everyone posting. 1900 etc.
sorry after the fact I... posted in the wrong spot.
First thing I would check on the Clock would be have you installed a task killer? Make sure you ignore the clock in that app if you have.
Is it a widget thats not updating, or the clock in the status bar? I've had all my widgets just stop updating before. They all had to just be removed, and re-added.
For music I would recommend PlayerPro for locally saved files.
Really the best music app though is Subsonic. You install on your pc, and then the app on the tab, you can stream or download any of the music on your pc from anywhere. Even better is the server thats running on the pc also creates a web interface which can be accessed from any web browser on any machine.
For video, I've had the best luck with Rockplayer.
And lastly, don't worry about benchmarking. It provides a number but doesnt really do anything. Especially with gingerbread, theres no hardware drivers, so all it's gonna do is dissapoint you.
If you must.. The main ones are antutu, quadrant, and linpack.
Sometimes whilst surfing the net i like to listen to Youtube while using another webpage to surf at the same time, trying to do this on my Asus but it shuts down the sound immediatley.
Is there a workaround available for me to listen to Youtube while surfing?
I assume you're using the stock broswer, and switching tabs? That's weird - and unfortunate - behaviour, as I like to do the same thing (though I haven't got my Transformer just yet).
Did you try maybe using the youtube app while browsing with the browser? It probably won't work, but it is worth a shot.
I don't have my TF in front of me, but did you try using youtube in browser instead of the app? I know the app sound shuts off, but its worth a try.
Yeah i've tried both ways and also tried using Firefox and Dolphin browsers but they all cut the sound out when you open up another tab.
Hasn't anybody else experienced this?
I have. I watch a lot of Flash live streaming (StarCraft 2 live streams), and every time I want to check IRC, I have to close the browser, which causes the Flash process to freeze. The same thing applies to the YouTube app. This is by design, and I cannot think of any way to fix it.
Really unfortunate, tbh.

Yes, i have as well. The tablet doesn't do true multitasking as would a desktop pc. You can't have two tabs open that are actually streaming information at the same time.
I like to play music from one tab and work in another just like you, and the TF won't do this. It's like with the ipad or iphone, they don't actually multitask, they sort of freeze your apps until you open them again.
yea. noticed that yesterday...
sucks.
opened youtube to listen to a song, opened a second tab for guitartabs..
when i switched to the tabs..sound muted.
wtf transformer. transform your ass into a good buy..lol

I don't believe its a transformer thing, thats Honeycomb.
Well if pandora can stream music in he background it is the apps doing. The developer designed the app that way so the app will not eat the batt and the cpu cycles when left open.
Otherwise a user would need to remember to close youtube correctly with an exit button or suffer a dead batt or slow tab.

As previously mentioned, this is by design. I don't think that will change. These devices are meant to conserve power while giving good performance. Why waste it decoding video when it is not being watched? The device does do true multitasking so a browser of this nature is certainly possible. Music will play in the background just not video.
The flash layer hibernates when it's no longer in the foreground. It's by design.

Ya, its battery management.
Ask in dev forum if someone can make an app to play youtube in background.
There is a post in the Xoom forums where is works with a particular browser and HC 3.1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13916886&postcount=68
I was streaming the "This is my Next Podcast" in a browser tab (Dolphin Browser HD) switching between tabs and apps with no problems yesterday. Maybe it's a settings issue, though I never made any significant changes so I don't know what it would be. I do use a desktop user agent... hmm, I'll try it again to make sure it wasn't an anomoly.

It must just depend on the player, some flash content may just be a no go.

Skype works
I can confirm that xformer can multi-task no problem, but seems to be dependent on the app. E.g. Skype works fine. I can have a video call going in the background, the other party can see me and we can keep talking, while I can go to home screen, fire up the browser and start surfing. Does not work for Youtube. via the app or the browser's built-in. In fact the browser (built-in) itself seems incapable, i.e. anything running on the browser shuts down, if the task is switched away. This also applies to tabs, i.e. if I fire up two tabs at the same time loading content, only the tab on focus continues to load, while the other ones go on a "paused" state. I haven't checked with Opera Mobile (flash is dead slow on any browser other than the built-in one), so I hardly use Opera Mobile.
I think pandora works in the bg as well. But I wasn't able to get the music player going on the background. I haven't tried Amazon mp3 player in the bg yet.
My2c.
Please post must have apps, preferably free.
I love how my G2X becomes a personal trainer, flash light, diary, radio, television, remote camera, motion sensor, etc.
Let us know what else this super gadget can become.
Just to bring it to all your attention though, get the Mugen 4500 mah extended battery. I wouldn't be able to enjoy my G2x and all it's potential without the extra power for all day activity using the apps I installed.
Well for an alternate lockscreen try ripple lock its like the honeycomb screenlock its badass I use it u can get it in market. And for font changing use absolute root tools. And for video playback use mobo player it plays all formats and is very very nice now all of these are free accept absolute root tools but its worth the couple ones
A PC replacement... Running stock CM7 with a Bluetooth Mouse/Keyboard and HDMI. Takes are of all your basic PC needs. Surf the web, send emails, play games, etc.
I'm sure its more powerful then my netbook.
must haves for me is
