hey guys im running 2.3.3 i cant root idk why but how would i odin to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183413 without losing anything on my current version.
If you change roms all of you data will be lost. I always create a backup with titanium backup; install ROM then restore.
Also, consider using a newer version of gingerbread.

true but for some reason i cant root i already backed up before i just cant root should i just install 2.3.4 and then root and get my back up from my 2.2.1 i mean i just backed that one up yesterday before odin to 2.3.3
No need to create 3 separate threads about 2.3.3

That's the link to the kernel that gives root to ALL gingerbread roms. As long as you get into download mode you can flash it with Odin

You don't have to delete them. You can add to them, even change the titles.
I believe the goal is to keep the number of threads down to make navigation easier for everyone.

As already stated there's no way to keep data while Odining to GB. Use Titanium or myBackup Pro to do so.
But at least you know how to Odin, that's most of the battle right there. Just make sure you read all of the tuts carefully that are provided throughout the SGS4G forum. There's plenty of good ones pertaining GB specifically. Or you can check out videos from Phreshjoker that are available via YouTube.
Either way, good luck.

Hi everyone. I am trying to root my wife's galaxy s 4g (I have a vibrant). I am using a mac with parallels and windows xp. I have tried all of the instructions. I have the drivers installed, net 2.0 framework, mono for xp installed usb debugging turned on...yada yada. Every time I try to open superoneclick it fails to run...it gives me an error message that the application had to close and then offers me the option to send error report. I've tried downloading superoneclick versions 1.7 through 2.1 and none of them will run. What am I missing? Why is this so hard?
Thanks

maybe its the mac and the way it handles usb input through parallels.. do you know anyone with a windows PC that you could use for 5 mins?
Unfortunately I don't. the phone gets recognized by windows just fine when I plug it in. I just can't get the superoneclick app to open

All you need is Odin, there are numeral roms available that are already rooted.
There's really no need super one click.
Just keep in mind that your phone is completely different, in other words only use files meant for sgs4g

Thanks, however I don't necessarily want to flash a rom. She is very happy with touchwiz, I just want to be able to delete bloatware, make backups, etc....basically I just want her to have root access. If she wants to flash a rom she can do that later, it's her first smartphone and she's not that adventurous.
There's stock roms rooted as well such as kd1(last official rom released for sgs4g) and most of the roms still use touch wiz. They can be found in the sgs bible. As long as they have the word "stock" in them they are just that... Stock with every piece of bloatware included.
Hope this helps

oh, that's good to know, thanks. Do you know if those roms will wipe? Would she need to back up all of her data and apps first? Also, if she did need to back everything up, how is that done when not rooted....i've always done nandroid and/or titanium backups on my phone.
Defiantly backup first... Titanium should do.

IMO, you should flash KH2 and drhonk's kh2 kernel. It adds ext4 support, auto-roots and adds red cwm, but leaves things stock from there on. There's a raw odexed leak available on these forums, as well as a stock but deodexed (well, the crt on/off effect is added), as well as whitehawk's Valhalla, which is stock (and deodexed), except it has the power menu mod and custom lockscreens (9 of them, zOMG).
My personal recommendation is the odexed leak and drhonk's kh2 kernel. I'm not big on deodexed roms, myself, but it's more a personal choice than anything. Also, if you go this route, all you need is Odin
Moving to Gingerbread is the best thing I ever did on this phone. I strongly urge you to dump froyo straight away, and make the move to gb!
Hope this helps you decide what to do
[Odin]What Time is it? It's Leak Time T959VUVKH2 Build Date 08/11
[Kernel][GB][KG4/KG6/KH2] Stock Kernel + CWM + Voodoo EXT4 Lagfix
[ROM-Leak][CWM] Gingerbread 2.3.4 T959VUVKH2 Deodexed + CRT On and Off Enabled!
[ROM] Valhalla v1.1 [KH2][9 Lockscreens!][9.15.2011]
Oh, and, if you're like me, you HATE the T-Mobile jingle/animation.
Here's a little package I cooked up for CWM to replace the T-Mobile boot/shutdown animations and sounds with those from the Galaxy S II (GB only):
[MOD][CWM][GB] Galaxy S II Boot/Shutdown Animations w/Sound
I would love to backup first, but I don't know how if I'm not already rooted. Titanium only works with root.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
There are other apps in the market that can backup your apps that don't require root.

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Why don't you just use Odin to flash Bali on froyo. Backup. Flash gb. Restore data. Not sure if that will work. I remember there being froyo to GB issues. just list your apps and start from scratch. It's worth it, as jay says.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
If you want to restore your froyo apps on GB, you can either use Titanium Backup, or these steps in the advanced restore option in CWM, as tested by another member here:
Flash whichever GB ROM you want according to instructions, but don't boot the rom when complete (do a battery pull if you have to).
Flash Bali Kernel on top of your GB rom, DO NOT BOOT THE ROM
Use CWM, go to restore, then advanced restore your data, DO NOT BOOT THE ROM
Reboot recovery, and flash one of DrHonks GB kernel
That *should* restore your data. I personally haven't tried this, but a few members reported that it works.
I know this may sound odd for.some but important asking cause everything i tried seems not to work so i can i get some help maybe some step be step instructions.please don't nobody has to be a smart ass also if somebody would be willing to make a video that would be nice.....

Are you trying to root from stock ee4? The question was a little vague and I want to make sure before typing it all out.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Yes that's what im trying to do
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA Premium App
I think there is a rooted stock ee4 in the development section. Let me see if I can find it. I think you would then just install using Odin with is in a sticky at the top.
---------- Post added at 12:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:47 AM ----------
Why do you want rooted stock ee4? To debloat?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1121201
Found this but seems like alot to go through just for root. Easier to find a debloated version and just add back in what you want. Im still new at this myself.
If you are only worried about root and do not want to flash a custom ROM you only need to:
1. Download CWM from this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112804.
2. Flash it to your phone using odin, make sure you selct PDA and uncheck auto-reboot. When finished boot straight into recovery just to make sure everything worked.
3. Install superuser from the market or download the .apk and flash through cwm. =)
That's it, if you have any questions about how to use odin please refer to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160580
Knew there was an easier way lol. Guess I learned another thing for today.

Not sure if you can achieve root on this phone without a custom kernel.
As far as I'm aware if you do go with a custom kernel when Verizon releases an update you will need to revert back to stock to be able to receive it.
If that's ok with you go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205428 and follow steps 1, 2a ,2b. you'll be sitting rooted and stock at that point. if you go with the pbj voodoo kernel (i'm using it) it will give you root and speed your phone up quite a bit. after that just download superuser from the market and go nuts.
Soooo. Im planning on getting this phone. Soon. Realllll soooooonnnnn.
And there are a few things i want to know.
Does this phone have a radio/spl like the htc g1? (just an example) where we have to flash a new radio/spl to flash a certain rom? or can we just flash any rom straight from cwm?
and im not sure whether im going to be getting a rooted or unrooted phone, so to be on the safe side, say i'm not rooted. Is there a way i can root it without a computer?
Once rooted, i know i can flash the "wannabe cwm" from rom manager to flash roms.
Im also from the sgs4g forums where we can go into download mode/recovery mode by the volume button + power button combinations. Is this pretty much the same?
All answers appreciated. (even though im sure not all of them will be quite related to this post and rather flaming me telling me to go search before posting, but maybe thats just the other forums)
Thanks for everything guys. Hope to be a great member and a flashaholic with the g2x
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
This phone will be much better than the SGS4G.
First off, do not flash CWM from ROM Manager. The G2x needs a slightly custom CWM.
Best way is to flash CWM via NVFlash. It's kind of sorta like going into download mode. There's couple threads on it in the Development section, so it's easy to find. And you need a computer for that. Once that's done that's pretty much it... Just wipe data, dalvik cache, and head into mounts and format /system. Once you did those 3 things then flash whatever ROM you want.
You don't have to worry about SPL, radio, modem, etc. Good luck.

You don't need root to flash a new ROM for the G2x. You just need CWM via NVFlash.

No, you flash CWM from NVFlash. You flash ROM's through CWM.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Alright so.. ima be flashing cwm via nvflash tomorrow. If it bricks my phone, can i get the solutions to fix it? Im asking now just in case something happens tomorrow. Thanks guys.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
i sincerly doubt you will brick your phone. Using NvFlash is pretty much easy enough for a monkey so you should be okay.
After that find a already rooted rom you want to load up through CWM. If your staying stock without loading up a new rom you need to get superoneclick to root it.
Tips: Don't unistall system apps unless your sure you don't need them. Once you unistall a system app and you hard reset it won't be there.
Recommended is stock foryo (rooted) rom or Ultimate Froyo Rom
invest a few bucks into gold standard apps (rootexplorer, setcpu, etc)
Hit me up if you have any general questions
Im not a noob. All i needed was to get cwm on my phone.
And i only asked about radios because phones with radios (like the g1 for example) had to flash a different radio to flash a rom. . that question was answered.
And i asked about the nvflash because i bricked my other phone a couple of times via odin. . And that question was also answered.
Currently running weapon g2x. deleted all bloatware/useless items. Just want to ask if i can download the samsung keyboard from my galaxy s 4g. (pushing the keyboard apk to the g2x.) and how would i add korean to it? As im pretty sure we'd have the language somewhere else.
Other than that, thanks all. .

I have searched the threads and cannot find any cwm flashable stock Froyo roms. When I got my phone I immediately put gingerbread on it and I would like to have a cwm stock rom to try out. I have the Odin ones that are posted but I can't customize them the way that I want to. If anyone has a link for one or can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
Nope theres no cmw stock roms that i know.
Whats the difference in customization terms between cmw or Odin ones? You can also open the odin file with a zip manager and modify it within the original file. Also... if you mean in terms of framework or something like that you can do it within the phone.
Unless im wrong theres nothing "extra" you can do with a cwm file that you cant do with an Odin rom.
I figured that there was no cwm roms available. With having a cwm rom it is just a personal preference for me so that I can work on it on my computer, thats all.
Bionix has a cwm froyo rom ...its mostly stock...and infuse 1.6 also

Ya, I understand that. If you read the original question that I posted, I asked if anyone knows where I can get a cwm stock froyo rom. I did not ask anyone to make one. I completely understand that there isnt one. I am fine with that. If you were really concentrating on gingerbread and ics you shouldnt be in a thread that has to do with Froyo.

True. Im thankfull 4 any advice n tips. Ive just used one click root for mac though it seems i didnt root. I hold down volume n power n it seems like it restores me back to stock.
I will be nice and point you in the direction you need. Look up NVflash this is how you get cwm. Unlike most phones you can flash the recovery before you get root. Make sure you do a backup of the stock rom and keep a copy on your computer. Then flash what ever rom you wish.
By keeping your stock unrooted back up will allow easy restore of stock system and the use of nvflash to go back to stock recovery if warranty is ever needed.
