No, just make sure you do the proper wipe procedures, and you should be fine.

Isn't there some finite number of times that flash memory can be written to? I think so, and I think you may be in some real trouble after a just few thousand tries.

Yes, the flash memory has limited writes. Eventually cells will start failing. Sounds like someone needs Flashaholics Anonymous.

That Awesome Force Close Is Back!

Well, I finally did it - back to stock. Just had too many issues with the roms, although they were super fun.
I thought, "Well the stock Froyo didn't have any issues from what I remember..."
Except all the force closes. It's amazing. I remember now how bad it was.
And yes, I'm rooted.
What can I do to fix these? These random force closes are brutal. Other people must be dealing with this.
Thanks!
Unroot, and just run. It sucks, im forced on it until i trade mine in. Trust me, it gets soo laggy makes the phone look like its a piece of junk. Im trying to get out of this brutal life to go to some *ahem* delicious snack builds.

I agree with Tmtease and bigjoe, more info. I flash ten times a day (bigjoe maybe more) working on stuff and no fc's. Need more info to help. There are a great range of roms right now that run smooth. Why go backwards?
Haha im sure bigjoe flashes more than 10 times a day xD but yeah more info would be lovely. Wed love to help in any way we can. Let us know!!

First of all, THANKS for the reply.
I'm wondering if this is a Titanium Backup issue. I get a TON of single vibrate than three-vibrate signals followed by a mobile manager close (or other force close). I always use TB to reinstall my apps after a rom flash. I only do app reinstall (not app + data)
But the one-vibrate followed by three-vibrate, that happens all the time.
Just like the first responder said, the lag is INSANE even on stock froyo and the force closes are frustrating.
Should I re-go back to stock and just never use TB and install all apps manually? Or is there a way to figure this out? Because if so, I can shoot back up to a nice ICS build.
THANK you!!!
I use TB regularly... best $$ for an app I spent...if your just gonna settle for stock why not go with qkster one clicker... to stock ?
I backup and restore regularly no prob...

Please don't assume anything. As someone who had a computer repair business, I can attest to the fact that sometimes hardware just doesn't play nice no matter what you do. Or are you one of those people that think hardware can never be at fault?
My phone had the same issues with any rom I tried. And no, I wasn't doing anything wrong. I tried installing from rooted stock, did all the wipes and formatting, but every time it eventually became glitchy. So far, stock works fine for me, so I'm sticking with it. There's obviously something about my hardware that doesn't agree with the updated kernel/software.
Samsung made millions of these phones. Do really believe that every single one will work perfectly with software that wasn't intended for it in the first place?
Short answer, no. Everyone was just trying to help. We see a ton of these threads saying there is a problem only to find out someone made a mistake or skipped a step.

I had a computer repair business, can fix any computer, compile kernels and pretty much do anything in linux and windows, and was made an ubuntu member. It's people like you with no real tech abilities that resort to calling someone stupid, and you think you know it all. I never said it was definitely a hardware problem, merely that it could be. Grow up and get a clue.

When someone goes around saying it's definitely this or definitely that, yeah, I have a problem with it. You're implying that there's no chance of it being hardware related. That right there shows how much you really know.
Btw genius, my phone never ran 100% perfect from the start. I suppose that was my fault because I took it out of the box wrong?

Hi guys - no, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be running GB or ICS without the force close issues.
Maybe my second post got lost among the, ahem, spirited debate but I would love some assistance.
I'm 99.9% sure I reflashed back to stock correctly. Then all I did was a recovery with TB (app only, no data). I've read elsewhere this could be the culprit.
Any ideas? This force close and lag thing is driving me nuts. Plus it hinders any roms I flash for GB or ICS.
Thank you in advance!

[Feeler] Flash and forget ROM?

I'm thinking of building a ROM of sorts, and I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in it.
The ROM would basically be what i run on a daily basis. A combination of a ROM and Kernel that work well together, with my own tweaks, changes, and settings baked right into it.
The idea would be that you would flash the rom, then forget you ever did. No changing frequency, no profiles, no Undervolting, no flashing other kernels, just the ROM and nothing else needed. (and I'd discourage trying it)
I would change UV settings to work on most phones, and a small overclock (most likely a 1.1 or 1.2Ghz), as well a stock Frequency/Voltage version. and each version would be stable enough to use as a daily driver.
It would most likely be a 'Flavor of the week' kind of thing, and I'll most likely change the base rom/kernel somewhat frequently (like once a month at most) to what I'm using that's stable.
So, does this sound good to anyone, or am i building for a demographic that's not there?
I would use it if u make it for the photon

sounds like a great idea... in this trend of rapidly developing roms, a stable rom with recent source changes for a change is great to fallback to.
Do you have any rom development experience? where would you rate your skill level at?

ive been programming in C/java for about 4 years now, (2nd year programming student currently) and ive been building my personal roms from source for about 6 months, and in the past few months ive started actively changing source code, integrating parts from some kernels and ROMs, and adding things to system apps (like voltage control and frequency mod in the settings.apk)
however, on the other hand, i do have fairly large gaps in my knowledge. i only barely know how to use github, and i haven't really dealt with the Linux/android kernel much before this.
honestly, on a scale from 1-10 (1=android user, 10= developer like Whitehawkx/Morfic) id say about 7.

i feel im a very competent programmer, but there are thing i am pretty much oblivious too. outside of android I've got a good portfolio of programs and source, but when it comes to android, I'm still learning. (and i definitely feel your more knowledgeable than me)
Do it one more person helping the community isn't a bad thing. You're obviously knowledgeable enough. Once you start playing with it and have a base crowd that likes what you do you'll get further involved and make a great rom in my eyes. You're willing to help everyone and give a very insightful solution to most and all types of questions.

I agree with the above, but be weary of the people who destroy devs by all the nagging and begging.
Anticipating the arrival of this ROM!
I would do it. If you can base it off of stock with some cm7 improvements that would be cool, like with weapon g2x. I was using weapon till I switched to HFP.

What Else Is There...?

Okay. So I rooted, have CWM and have tried several custom roms out there. But what else is there I can do that'd make my phone really awesome? I know the developers and Linux guys that know infinitely more than I ever will could possibly chime in here and give some ideas of some other cool stuff, I just don't know what else to fiddle with.
Something like this may have very well already been posted, but I was just thinking about all the customizations that one can do with Android -and am opening up discussion for folks to show off and/or discuss things to tweak the customizations available...

Get a rom that you like and tear it apart and customize it to your liking. I do this a lot. It is a good way to learn. Make sure you know how to get yourself back to stock if need be. I have had myself in some pretty good jams before testing out my own work.

I've been wanting to do just this, and luckily have already gone down the soft bricking road, and have my fxz to fastboot flash if need be. It was suggested to me to download Ubuntu and familiarize myself with that. I'm still unclear on adb and android sdk -I have installed on my laptop but no idea what I'm doing. But, I wasn't trying to get mini-tutorials for my lack of knowledge with this post, I'm just curious as to what others are and have done to further make Android "theirs" through customization. Don't root and flash G2x if you want full functionality!

Don't root and flash a ROM to your G2x if you want it to fully work. I rooted and flashed Eagles Blood. At first there were a few bugs which I worked out. Then I found out the main problem that is absent from most threads on how to root and flash your G2x. They don't mention you'll have no video! What? There was no video recording, no Netflix, no ESPN and any other app that just so happens to let you stream or record video. I'm just saying it would be nice to see a warning or something telling you about it. Also, there is a lot of network data connection issues no matter which ROM I used. Beware G2x owners! I get the whole use at your own risk thing but you lose a main capability of the phone. If I just wanted to call and text I wouldn't have a smartphone.

Wow, if you want complete functionality go with a gingerbread rom, like stock rooted, or cm7, not ics. If you read in the OP of ics roms here, it lists what problems there are: no video, somewhat video acceleration, meaning only a few things dont work, among other things.

Sunster you are my hero lol.
The only reason why a lot of videos won't work on ICS is because its missing its video drivers. To compensate the tegra2 will try to render them with the processor but honestly it can't do as much as the GPU can. If you were to install a gingerbread based OS you will get all those functionality back. It may not be included in the description of ICS Roms anymore cause most people already know about ICS not having video drivers. Anyways if you are going to flash a new Rom I recommend Cyanogenmod 7 or Eaglesblood GB based Rom but those are just my personal preferences.

I'm with the OP on this one. Rooting and flashing is so over rated. You can modify and enhance your phone with almost anything in google market. Flashing was just a fad for phones back in 2007. With our modern phones and google market, not only is it unnecessary, but very risky to flash as mentioned by the OP.
It's much more preferable to flash with an official OEM ROM, since unofficial roms could be maliciously programmed, which makes me suspicious why alot of amatuer developers bash LG and Nvidia for trying to make sure there's no open back doors for bad intentioned programmers to hack unsuspecting newcomers.

I'm with this guy. As a result of the dev community supporting this phone, I haven't completely lost it and gone on to make the sales rep who sold me this thing eat it in send me to jail fashion. And frankly...we must have some real upscale individuals flashing roms around here if they're worried about some dev seeing the mundane details of their lives...I'd hate to think what would happen if someone knew when I was running to the store because my girl said I needed to grab milk and eggs. If you're using your phone to do things with security risks (like sending your credit card info out into the void) might want to consider not doing those things in the first place...

The original post just remind us how difficult and chancy rooting and flashing are for any phone, and particularly for the G2x, which at the moment simply lacks the software to run ics with all its functionality. Flashing is never as easy as it's made out here, and I doubt it leads to satisfactory results for most people.

What do you mean you get no help? This isn't your first time posting to the wrong forum and you've gotten answers every time. Don't lie and say you've tried Q&A and gotten no help.
Post under where you got your download, you can't just say sorry and just clog up our threads with your issues, you don't own it you know. We all have had or have issues at times. Doesn't give you the right to just post what you want and where you want. You need to be flagged and banned!
You are a butt hole, a sweaty salty nutty butt hole.
Please read forum rule 15 if you are not sure where to post

I've said it before but it bears repeating. If you honestly don't know things like this then; you haven't done enough research, have no business flashing a somewhat experimental ROM like CM, and want to be spoonfed every answer. I cannot believe some of the people who don't think twice about flashing and don't know what to do when things go wrong. Before I flashed my very first ROM on my og droid, I knew everything about the process. Because when things went wrong I wasn't depending on someone else to hold my hand.

You'd be amazed how many people flash hboots for HTC devices without verifying MD5 sums. That one time there is a bad upload and you will be up the creek without a paddle.

Its almost too easy to flash/root anything now. The era of on the edge of your seat, pushing files via adb, praying it works, but knowing exactly what you're doing, is over. It's all on click root apps now. It's a double edged sword, really. People don't take the time to read up on what they're doing, knowing they have the crutch of coming here.

It seems like those of us who actually do their homework before rooting their devices are decreasing.

I agree ever so much. I remember rooting/unlocking the thunderbolt when the first root/unlock came out. Took almost 45 mins and if you goofed a few steps your device was a brick. People thought twice back then and were more careful.
As devices get harder to brick people just do whatever and as you said will just come here for help. I have spent hours and hours breaking things just to figure out how they work. I came to this phone and released the first working 100% deodexed ROM for this phone because of it. I spent hours and hours trying to figure out why the others couldn't.
So I get a little bothered when people spend 10 mins and give up and expect help.

The thunderbolt is such a pain to root I am shocked that I didn't brick my cousin's phone. Yeah phones are much easier to root but it is also much easier to solve a lot of the issues you come across on your own. I for one won't be bothering you nosympathy or any developer with questions unless I exhaust all my options.

Haha don't take it the wrong way I don't mind helping but when people post a question answered two posts above them or create a thread for a question when one exists and is still on the front page, those are where I get annoyed. Also when people don't at least try and search first. You can always tell if they have searched or not.
I try to be helpful though long as you tried first
