Phone after-use questions - LG Optimus 3D

Well i got some questions after having King Rom 1.4 installed, based ont he latest version with instead of the LG launching, having go launcher installed.
1- How can i get rid of the transition effect between switching options ect? I am tired of it?
2- Why cant the stock weather widget app not auto-update? it always says updating failed unless i manually let it update? I have juice defender wich only allowes data in standby on the 15 minutes, but other apps update fine in that window.
3.is there a nice looking weather widget with clock wich actually makes you go to the alarm/clock section if you click the clock and makes you go to the weather when you click the clouds, sun ect?
4.i tried a few flashlight apps, but none seem to work...is there one?
5. I cant use the LED flash when making 3d photo's?
6. Any power wanting games that utilise everything this phone's got?
7. Why's everyone waiting for cynogenmod? it doesnt look something that can offer us more? only a bit more themable? why would you want it over the stock rom or roms already available?
8. How can i lock an application so it wont get closed automaticly, and if it does, it gets restarted?
Thanks!

1. Download the app spare parts. You'll see settings for transition animations, you can turn it off there.
2. Not sure, but it auto updates fine for me. But my data is always on.
3. Never checked
4. Don't use
5. Nope, possible reason is... bug. another reason is that taking 3D pics would require a lot of light and the flash at night might ruin the 3D effect =/
6. Not a clue about games, but I've got 172 apps in the app drawer and its still fast =/ so most likely no games yet
7. They want it because most roms for other phones are based off of cynogenmod. If its released, they'll be more developers who can develop roms... and they like the support that CM would bring. Updates much more often than official stock rom.
8. Can't. Not that I know of. Its better if it doesn't. The apps are closed for a reason.

3. Beutiful widgets
4. Tiny Flashlight (must wait 3-5 seconds)
8. ES Task Manager

THE ROM...to work on

Today I tried the Hero, and I must say that it makes the Magic just as you would expect. I think this ROM is that we should concentrate all our efforts in order to make it usable.
i think that yes, it is the best rom ive ever tried, but it is too slowly and crashes frequently. htc apps and widwegts are also incredible!
one quesetion. someone have notice that all roms do not let see youtube videos in high quality. Original youtube app from vodafome let me select high quality, in this case no.. and there are great differences!

I don't have this youtube issue. When I watch at a video, in menu pop up it ask me if I want to see it in normal res.
I'm with v2 Rogers rom.
I think that hero is the way... cool interface and widgets but it needs more machine.

If you have a high speed connection like wifi or hsdpa, youtube plays in high quality.

are the hardware specs on the hero that much more robust than on the Magic? I should look that up I suppose....
Regardless, I would think that HTC would eventually want to supply the Rosie UI to as many devices as possible, as they did with touchflo 3d when it came out.
I reinstalled Hero yesterday evening as I wanted to give it a try.
I used nk02 version cause my sdcard is very slow for handling the Apps. It's the 8GB sdcard that came with the Magic. I learned the last days that it's class 2 and, in order to have the Apps running properly in the sdcard, we need a class 6.
My new sdcard is on the way and i will be able to double check this.
Anyway, after installing the rom i did several optimization things. I just went to the Dream forum and use what the people are doing. Basically this is what i did:
- Hero SpeedUp v2.0 script. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521421
From here I took the dexopt-wrapper and the optimize.sh script in order to create .odex files for every apk.
- Rosie/Launcher Toggle. Idea here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521877
But the procedure I use is this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3886560&postcount=23
This means that I disable the Rosie UI and use for normal daily use the standard home screen.
Someone will ask why would I want to have Hero when I disable the Rosie UI. Simple: I can switch back to Rosie whenever I want if I want to play with the new home screen.
But, If I want the phone to be responsive and not that laggy, it's better to disable Rosie. In this way the phone works quite well and I still have all the advantages that the new Hero firmware has to offer me:
- Twitter and facebook integration
- new calendar
- all the new menus in contacts, dialer, etc.
- new camera
etc, etc, etc.
I also read that if I just keep Rosie without any widget, it will still run smooth but i haven't tried it yet.
So overall I'm happy of my decision to go for Hero again (I haven't tried Rogers, I moved from Ion to Hero directly) and I will also support the idea to focus on this firmware.
It's really looking good.
P.S: I will also copy this post in the Hero forum as I think it belongs there too.

This didn't work for me.
When I clicked on home (after clearing defaults) it just went back to the home screen (rosie).

Can you see inside the Application Management menu both apps? Rosie and Home?
If you don't have Home, even if you clear defaults from Rosie, it will go back to Rosie as there would not be any other alternative.
So, can you confirm me that you can see both apps?
P.S: Just reminder: after you push Launcher to the phone, you need to reboot.
Doh! rebooted, works now. Thanks

[ROM] Double Headed Monster v1

I'm releasing and will be maintaining two roms.
Currently this rom should work with any of the custom kernels that are updated, eventually I will release my own kernel but I will not be messing with that until we get froyo. This has only been tested with the DI07 Kernel. You should have some variant based off the most recent update or this may not work.
Instructions
1. Back up your current setup
2. Download and place in the root of your sd card
3. Reboot to clockwork recovery
3a. Wipe Cache (Data / Factory reset should not be necessary but if you have issues go back and wipe both).
4. Flash zip
5. Reboot (Sleek download continue below, Base users are finished. Don't forget to set location preferences in settings > location.
Below steps only for Sleek users
6. Wait for reboot to finish, media search etc..
7. Log into google accounts let it sync
8. Open titanium backup > go to problems > click yes to install busy box
9. Enjoy. Customize as you like. In addition I open titanium and remove: SystemUpdates, all the tts items, voicedialer, voicesearch, setupwizard, task manager, twlauncher and adw launcher.
9a. I then Install startup manager (free on market) and stop all the random **** that isn't necessary from starting up. Namely: any user installed apps, alarm clock, calendar, calendarstorage, download manager, maps, myuploads, com.samsung.phone.info, settings, calendar voice dialer, wimaxrc, voicemail, titanium. Doing all this results in a lot of free memory on reboot!
234mb free ram on boot w/ above changes
A data wipe should not be necessary. If you encounter problems then you will need to full wipe and then reinstall the zip.
ROM Options
1. Base rom, including full touchwiz with all the goodies that come with that. Stock, deodexed and optimized.
2. Sleek and smooth, which is my actual daily rom since I hate Touchwiz, social networking junk and sprint crapware. I've added launcher pro, adw, fancywidget (htc clock w weather) and titanium backup.
Both roms are deodexed and optimized.
Current Bugs
WIFI / Bluetooth - Will cause radio to loop do not use until a fix is tracked down (I think i know what the issue is)
NO OTHER ISSUES
Future Updates
First priority is to get WIFI / Bluetooth fixed (I think I know the issue)
I will be changing the lock screen in a future update and offer different .zips and options for those of you in addition to some themes and graphical changes
I will be working on modifying and including the aosp calendar at some point. There is a bug with it currently and its not displaying properly on anything other than agenda mode so its not included right now.
I will ultimately offer a new kernel, for now all the kernels based off of DI07 should work fine. Including OC. In the interim I will package some of the more popular kernels with this rom for you to choose from but right now whatever kernel you were using will stay after flashing.
_____________________________________________
Download Link
Base - includes all Touchwiz elements just hotspot removed.
Link down until wifi fixed
________________________________________________
Sleek - Removes touchwiz, includes ADW and Launcher Pro, removes social networking crap, removes junk apks, adds fancywidget (HTC clock w/weather)
Link down until wifi fix uploaded
.
If you need to test any fixes let me know I am going to flash this right now and I'll report back.

Got it loaded up. Is this just the andromeda v.1 rom? Thats what it says under firmware version. And when u say full touchwiz do u mean like other Galaxy S phones or just the same crap we already have?

Your kernel will stay with whatever you were using prior to flashing.
Its the epic's version of touchwiz. I doubt anyone is going to bother trying to port 3.0 when samsung is going to release it in a few weeks. So many people ask for the apks and such in a flashable zip so thats what base will provide except they have been dodexed and optimized.
Sleek has other changes and things removed. Base is just base.

Can I request not to use Megaupload? or any sites that have a 45 second waiting period?
I'll be uploading the wifi fix over the next hour or two depending on how the evil internet monster is on my upload. so if you want to wait that might not be a bad idea and save on the two downloads.
any updates on how this is performing? curious bc i was thinking about giving it a shot. I'm now flash happy.....just 3 or 4 days ago I went from no roms to at least having a couple to choose from

[Q]Some questions about basic app, need help

Well i got my android phone a week ago (motorola defy) and ever since i've been finding out some lag and some minor problems with the apps running on it. The slide lock lagged but i installed a new one with widgets and it works just fine. Now i need some advices about other ones.
1. Youtube stock app for android 2.1: When the video loads and i move the bar within the place where the video had been loaded, but guess what, it gets stuck and does the loading again, and not like the windows browser's youtube...Is it suppose to be that way?
2. The keyboard is kind of hard to type with and i've been looking at some keyboard layouts but whenever i installed one, it said that it'll record whatever i'll type so in a way is it dangerous? because when i type my password on internet, does it get sent over to some website or is it totally safe?
3. Also I'm using launcher pro, it works fine but i was wondering if the stock launcher is working in the background as well which can cause lag along with launcher pro?
4.Also my stock browser laggs sometimes when it's zoomed in. So i would need some suggestions about another faster browser?
Thanks for any kind of help and advice
funny, i expected something from you guys as my questions are one of the common questions...or is someone can't be bothered here to help me out? ...

1. No idea...
2. Its safe, no worries, slideit is imo the best keyboard. But there are a lot of alternatives.
3. The stock launcher is in sleep I assume, with Home Switcher you can swop. When only 2 or 3 launchers installed your system doesnt lag. Or you can freeze it with titanium backup, not sure if it can do any harm when you freeze your stock launcher.
4. Try miren browser, it is really good.

thanks alot for your help, really appreciated it.
About the youtube stock app, what i basically mean is that, when a youtube video on computer on any browser...is loaded completely (red color strip). You can freely move the circle thing within the red color stripped which basically mean that that part is loaded can be be watched freely. BUT with my stock youtube application, that's not how it works. If i move the cursor a bit, it just hangs there and then i have to start the video from the beginning, loading and alll that. So i wanted to know if there's a good alternative youtube app with cache? so that once the video is loaded (when connected to internet), you can watch it even if you have no internet connection at that time...

After using miui...

After using miui I can't go back to any other. The features and functionality of this ROM is just beyond what I ever thought would be possible in an android device.
Their slogan is "Redefining Android" and they surely are.
I was on the fence if I should try this ROM or not since Weapon was pretty awesome too , but after trying this one I'm not looking back.
Thanks goes to Whitehawkx, Segnaro, Jface for making this happen.
****Note****: if themes are not working for you is because you need to go to /data/system and create a folder called theme.
Sent From My G2x running MIUI
Let's post the functionality that this ROM has for those that aren't sure what "we" are talking about.
I will post what I remember and then If you guys remember any other feature post it, then I'll update this post with the feature you posted.
Themes - can be downloaded directly from ROM and apply within the ROM. You can theme things separately like the dialer, status bar, toggles, icons, lock screens, messaging app, etc. You can dip all this with the theme manager engine they use. Ability to change fonts within ROM without restarting phone.
Features -
Dialer - record calls and take notes within the dialer during a call. Two big features I always wanted.
Dialer also works as a T9 keyboard
Browser - scroll up and down with volume rockers (pretty cool), hitting the back button actually goes back, not like other browsers.
Screenshots - by pressing menu+ vol down
Settings - Redesigned setting menu with added features and tabs to categorize each setting menu.
Ability to track data usage
Integrated app killer and app manger by long pressing the home key also by long pressing the back key, closes the app completely.
Lock screen - hold down home button will turn on torch
Toggles - when long pressing a toggle, it will open that toggle setting screen.
Camera - added features like Sutter control, zoom in screen, adjustable brightness on screen, touch to focus and redesigned camera skin.
A whole bunch more that I'm sure I'm forgetting or don't know about.
Keep posting features below!

Dude I totally agree, this rom is just amazing it pretty much uses the same kernel As cm so u know the speed is there, it actually feels a little more fluid. And on any other rom when u go to change the lockscreen or even launcher, u have to do a little , "work" and u have to be a little tech savvy for that part, but with miui they make it so damn easy someone coming from the razor could do it LOL , and there is so much options to choose from, **** sitting on latest kernel source, voodoo, and some badass 3d animations, very cool rom oh and moshe22 when u hit back with the browser it actually goes back a page u don't have to hit it a zillion times, the volume scroll is badass

And yeah this ROM just amazing and full of features.

I used MIUI on my G2 or vibrant, can't quite remember. I liked it a lot, but the battery life was so poor I couldn't stick with it. How is it on our phones? I don't need 15 or 20 hours or anything, but wouldn't mind something decent.
Also, are there different ports of MIUI for our phone? If so, are they all pretty much the same? Thinking I'm gonna give MIUI another shot, but want to use the version available that will leave the best taste in my mouth.

Been running Miui since last August/September, whenever it was ported to Evo. Sans CM its by far the fastest, smoothest, most stable rom out there. I haven't seen any reason to switch since it was released for G2x. I'm still on 1.7.26, and dont feel the need to upgrade. Thats how good Miui is.
On my G1 I was flashing roms every day. Moved to Evo/NS and flashed once or twice a week.
On my G2x? I think I've flashed mayyybe 4 roms since 4/20. Why? Cause anything LG touches turns to poop. No offense to all the bomb devs, but CM/Miui are the only things worth running on this phone. I dont get why anyone even wants to run a stockish build when CM/Miui are so much better in every single aspect.

Press and hold the back key in an app and closes the app completely instead of running in the background.

[Q] Switching from iPhone to Android. Great, but...

Hi all,
New to Android here. Just got a AT&T Galaxy S II Skyrocket after 4 frustrating years with iPhones.
So far I really like Android, especially that it lets you change what you don't like. I do feel that both devices are unacceptably tethered to their respective corporate landlords - and google is not necessarily better than apple in that respect - but Android lets you change that more readily. For instance myphoneexplorer lets you sync with outlook pretty flawlessly if you don't care to upload your info to google's "cloud", etc.
OK, I'm done ranting now but I do have 2 specific questions:
1. My particular SIISR does not display a visual reminder nor sounds a loud enough alarm when (a) I get a text, or (b) a calendar event comes due. It just makes a ridiculously soft noise that I miss every time I'm not standing in an empty recording studio, and even worse when I pull the phone the screen is dark so I have no idea what the feeble alarm was about. I expect the same level of alert as when I get a call, i.e. the lock screen lights up and I can read / snooze / dismiss as the case may be. This is really pretty amazing that such dirt-basic functionality is not included in the software, at the very least easily enabled in Settings. Am I really expected to turn on the phone and pull down the Notifications curtain to find out what is going on? If there is no workaround this will be a showstopper for me and I'll have no choice but to return the phone.
2. I like the idea of upgrading to a rom like cyanogen when it becomes available for the SIISR, but I am concerned about how at&t cottons up to having rooted and OS-reflashed devices on its network and what they might do about it, and more specifically what happens when updates are pushed down the pipe. What is you guys' real world experience with that?
Thank you for your feedback! I'd really like to stick with my new Android phone!
you go into setting and the sound option. click on volume and make sure it maxed out, then click notification ringtone and you can change the sound.
As for visual reminder its at the top left of the screen. Text shows an envelope and calender alert a different icon.. I use handcent for sms and it works way better than stock program.
Not sure if BLN works on the this model but try it. it will leave your softkeys lit when you have a text.
you can try different lock screens via golocker so that you dont have to unlock your phone to see what the alert was but to actually read the alert or know more than if it was a message or email or phone call you have to unlock it for security reasons as perhaps you get confidential material that not just ANYONE should see.
as for rooted and custom firmware its safe, and prevents stock updates from your provider. as android is opensource you are allowed to customize it.
As to #1, you can change the notification sound both in your email settings and in the phones settings/sounds area. As to it being a dark screen when you go to check it.. thats one of the downsides to this particular model, no notification LED.. there is an app on the android market called NoLED that will put a little picture on the black screen to make up for it. BUT I cannot vouch for whether or not it drains battery (my chief concern), just have to try it out.
#2 I've been on AT&T with a rooted/flashed phone of various models since 2008 and I've never had them notice/say anything. It does void your warranty flashing, but there are ways of getting it back to stock if you do end up needing that. At the moment on this phone I believe you can't get it *perfectly* back to stock, but just have to give the devs here time and it will be available eventually.
*NoLED is on my list of apps to check battery usage, I'll get on it and post again tomorrow
while the forums are a great resource for things, you will get answers faster if you just google (or youtube) things like 'how to change android sms sound'

BLN requires a kernel that supports BLN, its only a matter of time when one of these great devs on here creates one.
Handcent SMS (free in the market) has the option to have your message pop up and remain on your screen until you cancel it. Almost like the iPhone.
As what Jacob said, when you are running a rooted device, you are most likely running a custom Recovery like CWM. Its actually the custom recovery that prevents you from getting the updates Over The Air. HOWEVER, the way the devs work... those new updates will generally be available for you way before your carrier sends it to your device. So rooted or not, you're gonna wanna root it anyway cause you'll end up being one of the few who wont have ICS, or whatever.

Da_G supports it - look in the dev forum.

Like it was said, you won't get updates from AT&T, but why would you want AT&T updates to overwrite your Cyanogen ROM?? When you flash Cyanogen (or any ROM), you follow that ROM and reflash when updates are available. So instead of relying on AT&T for updates, you'll rely on the developer of the ROM for updates. Also, as long as you're not trying to exchange the phone or anything like that, AT&T has no right to tell you how to use your phone. Root it, flash it...throw it against the wall...it's yours. Do what you want. Now, when you try to warranty your wall smashed phone, you better hope you have a stock AT&T ROM on there if it powers up. Every time I've warrantied a phone, it's been dead, so it didn't matter. If it won't turn on, they can't tell what ROM you have, and really, most of those "techs" just want to give you a new phone and get you on your way. Personally, I've never had a problem getting a new phone.
#1 go into sms press settings in there change your SMS ringtone. If you want an iPhone SMS type of visual reminder (bubble alert) download SMS popup from the market tinker the settings to your liking.
I'll suggest every new iPhone to android user to read the phones manual or Google your questions before jumping to conclusion that android doesn't have this and that. Most likely it does. You can customize android how ever You want.

Has anyone had experience with the Chinese GO Launcher and the widgets that come with it? They look pretty cool, and it seems they have the functionality I'm missing.
btw I can understand the "read the manual first" comments; I did read the manual and, not unpredictably, it said nothing about functionality that doesn't exit.
Thanks for all the input so far everyone!
I recently upgraded from the iphone to the Skyrocket, and am loving it. I wasn't sure whether I was going to like it the first few days, but now when I pick up my husband's iphone it seems like a toy compared to the Skyrocket.
I just started using Go Launcher Ex two days ago. It has a lot of slick and useful features. I haven't finished exploring all of the options available, but so far I'm enjoying the themes, locker options, and SMS pro. It's easy to try Go, and you always can uninstall it if you don't like it. I did have to redo my widgets after installing it, but that was actually kind of fun with the new theme I installed.
Not a huge deal but something to keep in mind with GO launcher.. recently noticed with system panel that GO launcher drains battery excessively when the phone is idle (device on but screen off), so i switched to launcher pro which drains FAR less with the screen off. The app is nearly the same as far as functionality, with one or two exceptions that can be added by purchasing the the pro version if you really need them (resizing widgets). I decided it was worth it to use less battery.
*note, im a battery stickler.. I can't stand any extra drain
more then happy to help you out.

I know switching from the Iphone to Android is a big change. I was so confused for about a week. Anyways, if you want I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about your phone. I use the Go Launcher and Go SMS , I know a lot about them. Anyway just PM me if you'd like.
it has been my experience, because all returned/exchanged phones are sent out for reconditioning, att nor does the manufacturer care what OS modification has been performed on the phone. I returned my cappy at the atrix launch and asked specifically about the issue of "stock" or not, then I handed my serendipity cappy right over. Never heard back from att since and I'm still upgrading phones today without any heat. no worries.

Good to know, thanks for the info. I'm really happy with Go launcher, and in fact have noticed much better battery performance than I had previously with a live wallpaper. But I'll look into launcher pro if the battery performance is a problem in the future.
i can confirm that Go Launcher DRAINS battery very much.....but i still use it i like to functions.
just letting you know
I installed GO Launcher EX, it looks very cool; polished and very usable UI is a massive improvement. I recommend it. Ditto GO Dialer / contacts, a huge improvement over stock. GO calendar widget is OK but not fabulous; it looks good though with the Transparency theme. GO locker was pretty but rather useless, I uninstalled it.
Installed SMS popup, works excellent. I'm happy with it. Who knew I'd get excited over functionality that used to be standard 6 years ago.
Then for my calendar I looked for an iPhone type of visual reminder (bubble alert) that wakes up the phone and displays even when the screen is locked. I only found two:
- Calendar Snooze, of which I am currently running the free version. It does the job, but it's sort of aesthetically challenged.
- The pathetic Nudnik, which I uninstalled immediately. It looks like it was designed by a pre-schooler.
Now I need to resolve my lock screen issue, then I'll be content (it locks up immediately whenever I press Power although I set the delay to 10 mins in Settings).
I think I'll give Cyanogen a whirl if it becomes available for Skyrocket.
Try iPhone Notification.
