What did the triumph come with when it first came out ?
Either 2.2.1 or 2.2.2
Because i called VM about my gps problem and he said I have an updated version (2.2.2) but I dont believe him..
Someone else (from VM) said that for my gps to work correctly I need to subscribe to something make my gps work??
Btw I have the 038 now and its ok but my old one had 039 and it worked flawless until I took a picture and the phone went into download mode..

Got my Triumph the first day it was supposed to be available (7/19). I have Android version 2.2.2 and software version 038. My GPS works just fine; used it yesterday on a 45 minute trip. And, no, you don't need to subscribe to anything to have navigation on the Triumph. Try calling VM again; hopefully this time you get someone who actually knows something. Good luck!

I also have 2.2.2 and I have 039. According to another post, somebody (can't remember who) said they were told by VM that 038 or 039 just denoted where it was made. Oh, and mine works great.
Mihne came with 2.2.2 and software version 38. My GPS has been finicky as well but something I've tried that's worked is to use the app GPSFix from the Market. Just run it and it will start trying to fix to your location. Then run Maps or Navigation or whatever. I always get a fix within 2 minutes or less.

I swore I wouldnt go to stock Froyo since using Phoenix, but that changed.
My friend updated to the official Froyo and after using it a couple of days he swore to me that the battery life was much greater then before. I had to try it.
I returned to stock with Odin and updated to Froyo. The battery lasts me much longer then it was with Phoenix. If I could get a rom like Phoenix to have battery life like Im getting with the official Froyo then I would be one happy camper.
Now onto my problem, since updating to Froyo Im not able to access all apps in the market. The one that I know for sure is not showing is Paypal. I ran into two others, but cant remember which ones off the top of my head. Can anyone tell me why all apps might not be showing and how I can correct this?
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks

You have a locked market with the offical ATT update just like normal on a stock rom. You will need to find a way to unlock the market to show all apps. thats about as much as I know as I cant bring my self to take a step backwords from Phoenix/ Super nova 2.2.1 to stock 2.2. Too many missing features
Try turning on airplane mode then turn on wifi to access the market.
Well that sucks about the locked market.
I tried going into airplane mode then wifi and that didnt work. What I don't understand is that I was able to get the apparently when I was on stock 2.1. I have it backed up with titanium backup. If I root should I be able to restore it?

If you are rooted, you can download Market Enabler http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/downloads/list and sideload it via Sideload Wonder Machine
Have you tried clearing data on the Market app? I've had to do that several times since the KB1 Update.

I did try that, but it made no difference. I'm going to try to recommended enabler to see if that does it. Thanks.

Not sure if this will help or not but I just read in another thread someone was having a similar problem. They found that being rooted shows more apps in the market than unrooted. There were several apps one user had on his rooted 2.1 that didn't show when he did the official update. After rooting they were there. You might just try rooting and see if your apps are available.
Like everyone else, stock GPS on the captivate was terrible. However on Froyo custom ROM's with fixes applied my GPS not only became usable it became pretty damn good. Continuum and Paragon were the best.
Is there something we can do on Gingerbread as it has sucked for me again like it use to. I use my phone for running and if I cant find a fix I guess I am going to have to go back to Froyo as its rediculous how inaccurate it is.
Your phone has the hardware problem. Have you ever exchanged it? The only reason it worked on custom roms was due to changes within the supl settings by the rom developers. This isnt a true fix, your gps is still "broke". I would recommend exchanging it for a refurbed unit that has a working gps. This will allow all roms and even gingerbreads gps work like it should. But if you want to keep your current phone you should ask in the development section. Im not sure if plumbobs fix works with gingerbread.
I have exchanged my phone previously and both have worked the same. I posted this here because it is not a development issue and if I posted this there I would get ripped! Just go read any posts like this in the development area. Thanks for the reply though.
There has to be a way to fix GPS on Gingerbread.

How long ago did you exchange it? Seems most refurbs after April have a functioning gps. Did you do it at a service center or over the phone?
Mine is an 1103 I think. Lost my last phone. Downloaded heanthens gingerbread gps fix. Was weird....gps was worse fir the first bit but better on my last reboot. Too early to tell and still not froyo level. Will report back as time goes on.

Try clearing GPS data..
- Dial *#*#3214789650#*#*
- Click on the "Delete GPS Data" button
- Press Back or Home key to exit
I notice this helps while switching ROMs, especially when going from Froyo to GB.
code *#3214789650# - Settings - SUPL Settings, and changed the server to supl.google.com and the server port to 7276. I got much better results from that configuration.
Anyone else getting good results using these settings?
SUPL/CP Settings/SErver FQDN Type/Custom Config
Application settings/Operation Mode/Standalone
SUPL/CP Settings/Server/www.spirent-lcs.com
SUPL/CP Settings/Port/7275
GLONASS
I was just reading up on Spirent's website about GLONASS, which is a similar system to GPS. It seems it's chief benefit is to provide overlap or supplemental coverage where GPS connectivity is poor. The wikipedia article states that GLONASS will be enabled on most mobile devices in the near future and many already use it. It can function on the Captivate's ARM Cortex set. Apparently it is more accurate in the Northern Hemisphere due to the orbital positions of satellites.
Does anyone know if it is possible to enable or add this functionality to the Captivate's location capabilities?

Those are the stock settings and should give you the best results on fixed phones. Most if not all roms use supl.google.com/7276

GPS
I just loaded Mosaic V and this is the best the GPS has worked on the Captivate.
I use it for running also and it has sucked til now.
Mine is 1103 and the GPS is still garbage.. With the rogers stock 2.2 rom i have had it work well at times but also complete garbage other times..
Im running the leaked 2.3.3 Gingerbread and I havent been able to get a gps lock as of yet.. Still running stock settings atm, I sorta gave up on the idea of using GPS on my captivate to be honest.
What are the range of numbers effected by the bad GPS? I'm at 1010 and cannot keep a lock for the life of me. It'll lock on pretty quick if I'm in a standstill position, however once I start moving, forget about it.

All builds.. people are saying newer builds have a working GPS but its really random.
I think 1105 is the latest build, it might work on them.. but my GF and I both have 1103's and the GPS is garbage.

I totaly agree with you. GPS was perfect on DOC's froyo rom. Actually most of the froyo roms.
Now, with GB it's broke again. I tried Continuum GR12 and Serendipity and it still sucks.
So it's not a hardware problem.
For whatever reason im getting amazing gps now with the stock settings on 2.3.3. 10ft accuracy and tracking fairly well. i guess its touch and go with these devices.
I exchanged my 1008 at an AT&T Device Support Center last weekend and received a similar build. I could tell there was something different between the two phones because the stickers under the battery were different (I am assuming it was a refurb). The GPS in the phone they gave me is 100 times better at least. Even on stock software. I then traded in my wife's phone and she got an 1102 build which had a sticker like the original phone did. I am wondering if she got a brand new one and not refurbed? Anyways this phone for her is a lot better also. While it seemed to initially take longer than mine to get a lock it doesn't lose tracking while driving and locks on very fast after she has used it before. So I guess long story short, if your GPS is bad I would keep complaining to AT&T until they gave you a working one.
P.S. Don't let them try to convince you an upgrade to stock Froyo will fix it.
Had my TB for about a month now, everything was great till my 3G decided it didn't want to work. It just died completely out of nowhere. So after googling,I found if I dial ##778#, I can reset my modem and my 3G will come back.
The first time it died I was on Das BAMF 3.0 RC. Dialing ##778# did not work. I just got a FC. So I said screw it and unrooted my phone and flashed the stock froyo ROM back. Used that for a few days and my 3G died again, so I tried ##778# and it worked, I got my 3G back. I figured it was a random bug, so I put a different ROM on - samething happened: no 3G, ##778# doesn't work. Since it died again, and I didn't have access to the menu to reset it, I had to unroot my phone again. So then I rerooted but kept the stock froyo rom on just in case (since I knew I could reset the 3G here). Everything is good so far...
Only problem is, I don't really wanna use the stock rom. Every rom I've tried doesn't seem to have ##778# working... do you all know anyway to access that menu other than dialing? Or a different way to access it on other ROMs? Thanks!
tldr: What ROMs allow me to dial ##778# to fix my phone loosing 3G randomly? Everyone I've tried I get FCs
There is an app called phone info that allows you to do the same thing and should run on any routed Tbolt.

It's: 000000
The fact that you saw that is great, so that's one ROM I can try now woohoo! Thanks!
so i did the ota update to gingerbread and now my barnacle wifi tether doesnt work. when i try to run the app it shows an error saying the DCHP port is already in use and in the notification tray the little white tethering icon pops up. so it seems to me that the phone tries to launch the built-in tethering app that you have to pay verizon for. i tried using app quarantine but that doesnt even recognize the app/setting so idk how to turn it off.
if i switch to a custom rom would that eliminate that stock app and the issue?
So - you had Barnacle working on your D2G?? My computer would connect, but would not 'see' any internet connection. Also barnacle would not list any clients when my computer was connected. When I went to uninstall, I noticed that the app was for EVO... I never tried/knew the app existed before the OTA update to GB. I have also noticed that half the reviews say 'does not work on D2G' so I'm wondering what the difference is between this phone and every other Android phone on earth and if anyone is working on a fix??
yea i had used it for quite some time, with ipods and computers. it was a life saver on road trips. i dont remember when i downloaded it but i never noticed anyone saying it didnt work or that it was just for the evo. and i got mine straight from the market too.
but yea this ota update screwed it up with the built-in app/settings. i dont know any way to fix it so i posted this in hopes that someone can program a workaround or something. im also gonna check out other roms. the pros of gb outweigh this problem so i dont wanna switch back to froyo
ok so i tried the Venus rom and that didnt work either. it has the same stupid vzw tether app that gets in the way. to me it looks like any GB based rom is outta the question, unless they found a way to remove that app. im back on the stock froyo (had some stupid issues with SBF that wasted a lot of time) i guess ill live with bad battery life and wait to update to GB when this gets fixed
There is no “stupid Verizon app” anywhere. There's the baseband (radio firmware) which does that.
i just call it that cuz its frustrating. and are you saying there is no way to get rid of this or work around it??
There were threads on how to alter baseband settings to make tethering work; I can't really find one right now, but I'm sure I saw them either in this forum section, or in droidforums' D2G section.
So it's a radio firmware that tells the app to take control? hmm. I'll look around for something as well for the D2G. I'll post any results. But yes as for now i downgraded to 2.2 again. need my tethering. #against the system.
Look into Open Garden. It is another tethering app (free in market)

I found this thread while browsing the frontpage of xda. If you're having problems with gps locking on, check this out. Just follow the directions and test it out.

I'm currently on creamed glacier 7.0, with stock froyo radio (which has never given me gps lock problems or data problems) and I was getting VERY slow gps lock ons.
I checked out this thread, flashed the google specific cwm flashable patch 3.1 and bam, it worked miracles. I got a lock in like 2 seconds.
Also...I was tempted to post this in the dev section, but I want to avoid the bashing for a day.
I've been waiting all day for someone to respond to this and say it works. Thanks for posting this!
Edit: Just tried the T-mobile specific files. Seems to have worked well, but I'll find out tomorrow for sure.

Yea, you kinda just have to sit down, test them out and be patient. When I first glanced at it, I was like no way, but I didn't have anything else to do so I sat there and read through it and tried the latest google specific one cause he recommended the google specific ones and it worked.
Thankyou

What fantastic timing that you posted this. I was just searching all over this morning at work because I had no functioning gps. Saw you posted, hit up the T-mobile centric files, and it worked just fine.
Someone should tell that guy that it works on the Glacier too.
Edit: I was off by a month, but the message is still the same. Easiest and most effective fix I've attempted yet.
I installed same fix.
Now although it fixes very quickly, in Google map Nav. it says "GPS signal lost" every 5 minutes. I need to restart the Nav. to get the gps lock again. Any one has the similar problem?
update: seems radio is the root cause. I was on the latest radio. After I flash to original tmobile one, this issue disappeared.

I don't know about you people, but some ROMs appear to have the gps configured differently than others. I found for those that the gps locks on slower I use "GPS Status" from the market and it seems to help.
