want to go back to plain stock rom - HTC Sensation

how do I do that? since I just rooted and got s off today i dont like the rom i put on and would rather go back to the ota update which had my phone running smooth.

I'm assuming since you had the capacity to s-off your device, that you also read that you should make a nandroid backup. If u didn't then you are not out of luck but hopefully you learned your lesson. You have to flash a stock ruu for your phone. I'm %100 sure that a simple search would yield your intended results. But there ya go anyways.

Orrr just use the RUU.

Thanks I'll search for that now

If you followed the instructions, you ran backup in recovery. So restore from the backup in recovery.

[RUU] Official 2.31.651.7 in ZIP Format, Flashable from Fastboot

As the title says, here's the Rom.zip extracted from RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2.31.651.7_signed_release.exe for those that don't use Windows, or prefer to have their RUU in zip format.
This will flash your phone to 2.31.651.7 STOCK.
http://www.mediafire.com/?m6x4sr682ruk027
Simply rename this to HERCIMG.zip and place on the root of your SDCard.
Power your phone completely off.
Press and Hold VOL DOWN and POWER until your phone boots into HBoot mode.
Wait for it to verify the zip, then click <ACTION> (Trackball) to update, or <SEND> (Green Call) to cancel.
Enjoy!
Here's my guide to rooting .7:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804296
Personally..I want to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
I have spent the last four hours searching for this. This needs to be stickied. I'm bookmarking it for sure. This got my phone unbricked..I thought all hope was lost and I would have to call in for warranty support (I got mine refurbed through Sprint last October..so I don't even know if I would still have any warranty support), and see if I could try my luck and getting it replaced, since that is what others have said to do as apparently this file from OP, did not exist.
And so for future reference, so that others don't go mindlessly searching through the forums.
If you
a.) Managed to overwrite your Recovery some how or completely delete it. (I did..and from searching this and many other forums over the past couple hours..I can see I wasn't the only one), and also have no boot (or a corrupted boot loop)
b.) Still have S-ON (You can find this out by powering off your phone and then pressing and holding the power button and the lower volume button), I recommend you turn S-Off for future reference if you're going to be dealing with customer ROMs a lot (so you don't have to go through the hell I just did..). See here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=759955
c.) Have an updated Hboot (1.47) (you can also find this info. in part b.)
....then you KNOW that you are stuck. Because you
a.) Cannot flash a ROM in Recovery because you cannot access it.
b.) You cannot access ADB because your phone won't go that far and will only go into fastboot..
c.) But even though you have access to fastboot you can't do ANYTHING like flash a recovery image or a ROM..or anything for that matter..because S is still ON. (this is the "not allow" messages you will see pop up.)
d.) You have bootloader 1.47 so if you for example, were like me couldn't use this file here.. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=657086), because it would say there was a newer version and wouldn't install it.
So this file right here..was the only thing getting my phone back to a usable state. And considering that my searches have shown to pretty much give up all hope and have it sent it for warranty repair, then I think this thread deserves a bump for all those that have screwed up.
Yeah..I have to start ALL OVER now from a stock ROM (thank god for nandroid), but at least my phone isn't a dead brick.
Just thought this needed a well deserved bump.
I wonder if there is a RUU for the latest .2?

Forgive me for seeming NOOBish... but I can use this to do the same, then restore Nandroid back and it will keep the PRL/Profile update?
Just wondering... lolz, thanks!
Yup But you will have to reroot. This takes root from you. You will have to reroot with the Hero rooter from Reg or Z4 or one click root. But read read read. And as far as the prl/profile yup it will stick. When your phone boots up after running this just go into settings and updates and choose update profile and update prl don't update firmware. I repeat don't update firmware. After that just reboot and check your prl should be 60675. After that reroot, then flash a recovery and then nand restore. Hope this helps good luck
Remember this returns you to stock you will loose root and recovery..

Why don't you guys just flash NFX's or LS's already rooted and way faster stock sense ROM to update PRL, etc?
Running stock ROM has to be one of the worst things ever after being on custom ROMs for so long.
I tried flashing almost ever sense rom on here pmgrands port, ninfintes stock odex and deodex and his apps 2 sd builds he has like 4 or 6 different builds. Tried flashing liquids builds beta and stable. All gave me a error. So I had to use this. I couldn't flash any sense rom
and it was easier to use this than try to figure out y. If he can flash a sense rom then yea that's the easier way but if not this is a for sure way to get back to stock.

Yup. That's way better and faster. Just go into settings / updates. Then just update prl and profile. Don't update firmware. After you confirm that your updated just nand restore and you should be good.
Edit not sure if you would have to reroot.

Thanks for the reply's all... I like Sense and have NFX rom on my Hero, loaded a few ROMS but they won't update, so no worries, when I have some free time I'll sit and do it then. I don't like the one click rooters nor the clockwork recovery, I guess I'm old school and do it the hard way, lol, but thanks for letting me know it'll work (prl update) and stay on the handset!
Regards!
Without opening a huge can of worms I would like to know whats the best newest rom out there with sense I just searched for like 3 hours and lot of threads are old and I want what ever is new with sense also would like to upgrade to 2.2 im on Honeybun v.-2 lite firmware 2.1 update1

According to the OP this one was extracted from the RUU, so it *should* work S-ON.

Rooting and back to stock.

I am new to this rooting stuff and been spent most of yesterday learning and asking questions. Here is what I did and some questions I got from it.
1. I rooted using the guide from ace hack it, took me a few tries but got it working.
2. Noticed I went from GB 2.3 to 2.2 after it. So is there a way to get to 2.3. This will lead to another question a few.
3. I loaded my first Rom off the SD and it was Leedriod. That gave GB 2.3 but was having difficulty with gps. But I was happy to know the rooting and Rom laps worked for me.
4. So I tried the offical ATT RUU through usb and HTC sense. It worked but also put me back to stock. Is this a way of putting your phone back to stock? I do have ace hack it on the phone because when I reboot I can get into it but if I select recovery from the menu it seems to lockup my phone.
5. Is the term Rom and RUU interchangeable? I see people using both or am I reading it wrong?
Thanks for any help. I have been reading pages of this stuff and its making my head spin. I just wanted to ask some questions to help understand this better, since I'm new to it.

Oh I forgot one.
A lot of instruction say to 'clear cache'. How do you do that? Is that the wipe cache option I see from the ace hack it menu?
Thanks

Ruu=Radio Update Utility
Rom=the OS you see/use on the phone.
When you ran the Ruu, you unrooted your phone. You'll have to rerun the Hack Kit to regain root but not S-off and to be able to flash a different (preferably custom) rom.
Do you have a preference for Sense or AOSP?
I figured that I had to rerun which is ok with me.
I don't really use sense because there aren't many options to it. So I would try asop but o don't know what is

If you're S-OFF, all you have to do is flash ClockWorkMod recovery to regain root; no need to redo the whole hack kit.

If you ran the RUU, it will return you to a stock ROM, but you are still S-OFF which is the biggest hurdle in rooting your phone. If you want to root after running the RUU, just flash ClockWorkMod recovery via HBOOT and then install a rooted ROM.
That's dang good info. From what I knew, you had to rerun part of the hack kit to reboot. How does flashing CWM root the stock rom?

It stands for Radio Unit Upgrade. But please forget this name: it is confusing, because it upgrade the Radio Rom & the OS ROM, or only one of them.

Easy enough to get the real answer. When I first saw you call it Radio Update Utility it didn't sound right. So I googled it. I saw about 4 names that people gave it including Radio Unit Upgrade but then I thought where did I see it before. Oh yes, right from the upgrade utility.
So I tried recovery again. And my phone keeps getting locked up. The device appears with a red triangle with a red exclamation mark. So i tried the downgrade from the hack it kit. It worked but i still get the same thing. So i tried reverse gold card and i got a error. The same that i got before i reformatted the SD to get the root to work.
So later today, I will reformat and run the hack kit again. I am probably going to try Coredroid ROM.

[Q] I must be doing it wrong. Is there an easier way to get back to stock?

Hey, guys-
I'm unrooted and running stock Android. I have all of my settings and apps exactly how I like them right now.
In the past, I've flashed different ROMs and Kernels. When I get tired/frustrated with them and want to revert back to stock, I usually just do the 1 click revert back to factory settings. When you do that, it... well.. erases anything and everything in order to get back to factory settings.
Nothing is broke. I just don't want to delete my SD card contents and lose root. I just want to revert to the stock kernel and ROM from another ROM and kernel.
I was wondering if there's an easier way to get back to my current settings on the stock Android and Kernels WITHOUT using the 1 click revert back to factory method? If there is, could you PLEASE tell me how to do it EXACTLY? I say that because sometimes people on here give instructions that are clear as mud. Thanks!
Factory reset does NOT restore kernels or roms. It simply wipes user data.
You're confused. What you really want is a nandroid back up
If you have ROM Manager installed, open it up and go to "Download ROM". At the very bottom of the list, there should be a selection that says "Stock Images". I'm pretty sure you can use that to get back to stock. I'M NOT POSITIVE, I've never tried it before. It may unroot your phone/get rid of clockwork mod recovery. Just a suggestion

That is to relock your bootloader. Just flash a stock rom in recovery with a full wipe, You'll be unrooted.
Stock roms can be found here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063664
It's also wise to keep your content copied on a folder on your comp. 5 minutes of copying back and you got it all back. If you got all that sorted what you should always do is once you've got a stock rooted rom, run a nandroid backup/backup restore from CWM before you flash new roms / kernels.

[Q] Flashing back to stock.

I have a question about flashing back to stock.
When I got the phone I rooted and unlocked the bootloader, then I made a backup of the stock rom
I have KingCobra on now with 1.88 and my Rogers backup is 1.73 will this matter or can I just flash away?
Do you mean downgrading your phone to 1.73 . If yes refer to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671135
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Just find the RUU in a thread or the stock rom and use the RUU to go back to stock if thats what your trying to do. THat way you can also be on 1.85 or 88
if you made a backup using recovery then restoring it will take you completely back to where you were when you made that backup. Restoring that backup will wipe the partitions removing remnants of the previous rom.
I didn't make a backup before i rooted, unlocked and put in CleanROM. What steps do i need to take assuming I found the stock ruu?
same
I'm in the same boat almost. I had 1.85 rooted on the one click path just to have the ability to use free WiFi tethering. Now I was forced to upgrade to 2.20 which is a nice upgrade minus breaking my chrome browser. Anyways I wanted to get rid of stuff I did but it seemed kinda confusing so far. I saw superuser had a clean up optio to uproot but it doesn't do anything.

[Q] Whats the best way to...

Ok so Ive decided to head back to stock. While all this is flashing and what not is fun and maybe invigorating to some, its gotten me worried that my phone is going to explode in my hand or something. I just dont want to cause any problems with my new shiny phone. Can you tell my noob-ness level? lol So Im running CR 2.5 and LiquidSmooth before that. While there is nothing wrong with CR im just too nervous every time I see something unusual.
I have a nandroid BU of Stock with root and unlocked BL and CWM flashed. If I format system, Format data, Format cache and restore that nandroid. Im back to stock ROM and everything with root, correct?
If I choose to unroot, do I have to use ODIN, or is there another way? I pretty much want to go back to getting OTAs but dont want to loose all my Apps. Can I stay rooted, then lock the bootloader and accept OTAs?
Now I also have BUs in TB and MYBackup. If I choose to unroot how do I get my backups restored if Im not rooted?
What are my best options? Suggestions, links are greatly appreciated?
Anybody?

Yes me! So first of all there are the OTA's in the development section I believe. And you can just flash the OTA to your rooted device description is in the forum. Second If you would want to get back to stock non rooted the best way would be to ODIN also don't forget to reset the flash counter if you needed to return the device to verizon or anything.
Also you can find the latest stock rooted in the development section with all OTA's included. I wouldn't un-root if I were you just because of all the good stuff that is possible with root.
And I just want to tell you that your pretty safe your phone won't explode or anything like that. just make sure you follow the instruction correctly and your phone shouldn't over-heat or drain the battery so on. And even if something drain's the battery check the section where you downloaded the ROM from and you will find the solution easy as 1-2-3.
Use the little search button upper corner on the right hand side if you have any questions in the verizon GS3 section of course and you will find everything you need.
If I have a little time later today, I will link you the OTA's and the latest stock-rooted ROM if you can't find it.
