Any way to extract files from a .kdz file? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Anyone here know how to open/browse/extract files from a .kdz file? I've spent the last hour or so searching via Google and can't come up with anything that works.

Did you try winrar?

Yea it gives an error. Does it support that file type?

Have you tried 7zip? I've never seen an archive it couldn't open, it's like the VLC of compression.

The GB update kdz file.

You need an LG Utilties program to extract the KDZ files. There are some out there for the KP500 and GW520 but not sure if the same utility will work for the G2X P999 files. After that you need a program called unyaffsmbn (zips on internet) to extract the files further. Here is a GW520 Utility zip (attached to post) that I haven't tried yet. I was trying to do the same stuff you've been playing with. I haven't tried to extract the files yet. Another way is to grab them while someone is using the KDZ program to update their phone. The files are extracted and put into "C:\ProgramData\LGMOBILEAX\Phone" but as soon as the program detects no phone the entire directory is blown away. Too fast to grab the files. If someone is updating a phone the files are there long enough to copy, but I am not going to update my phone again just to grab the files.

They already have the GB update in the Development section. You could also just download the source code from LG.

People are after the baseband. That's not included on the rom files you mentioned.

This was my first approach but I didn't know where the files were extracted to so thanks. I managed to grab the extracted files by creating a symbolic link named Phone in that LGMOBILEAX directory. I pointed the symlink to another dierectory. I named it Test since I wasn't sure if this would work. I then ran the kdz updater (without my phone attached of course) and it extracted the kdz file to .\Phone which in turn saved them in my .\Test directory. The updater aborted when it detected there was no phone and the extracted files remained in the .\Test directory.
So now I have 2 files (it only extracted 2), Star_Model.dll and a .wdb file that is undoubtedly the firmware because its like a 180MB file. I tried extracting from the firmware using a couple different versions of LG utils that were floating around because they have an option to extract files from a wdb file, but they keep giving an error. I'll keep trying lol.
Any ideas?

Exactly. I don't know why we don't have a flashable baseband yet and maybe my approach is going to be a dead end. Is a flashable baseband even possible on this phone? I dunno lol. Nobody seems to be paying it (the baseband) any attention.

I want to see a flasable baseband and other wind subscribers would as well because to get it we would have to flash the gb update. That changes the splashscreen to tmobile making it unable to change back since we don't have the stock rom that I know of.

Need Help using ODIN & Tar file

Need help. I am trying to restore my Skyrocket to factory. I down loaded the necessary files
-ODIN
-SGH-I727-UCKJ2-k0nane
The thing is that when I open Odin, click PDA and browse, I don't see the tar file(SGH-I727-UCKJ2-k0nane)? Do I have to convert the file to tar?
The SGH-I727-UCKJ2-k0nane is in the download file and I see it but when I use Odin to browse, I don't see the file?
Am I doing something wrong or am I missing a step?
I am using Window's Vista. Does it make any difference?
I have read instructions many many times and I can't figure it out.
anyone out there?
Sorry bro. I would help you but seeing as I have yet to have my SkyRocket in Hand and have not gone through the rooting and ROM process on THIS device. I am not comfortable giving advice. Best to wait for someone who has more experience with the SkyRocket than I.

the .tar file is INSIDE the file you downloaded. the file you downloaded is a .7z or 7zip file. 7zip is a free archive/extractor. unzip it with 7zip and you will find your tar file.
i find it always helps to have your WINDOWS configured to show file extensions to keep confusion like this to a minimum, since you would have actually seen the file extension type.
careful! this method trips the ROM counter. why are you returning to stock?
I figuered it out. I bricked my phone trying to update to 2.36.

Do you have a Backup of your system - if so restore your backup. If not google extract .img files and look for software.

[TUTORIAL] How to extract BIN + FLS from KDZ

Guys, I've seen some people wanting to access BIN roms and/or FLS basebands included in KDZ official roms, and not knowing how to do it.
I've searched the forum, found out how to do it, and decided to make a tutorial for our phone.
Here it goes:
0. Have a "KDZ official rom" file to extract
1. Download attached LGExtract.7z and put the included LGExtract.exe file in the same folder as your kdz
2. Open a Command Prompt
3. Change directory to the folder where you have put the previous files (LGExtract.exe and KDZ file)
4. Run this: LGExtract -kdz V***_00.kdz (use your kdz's name, for example LGExtract -kdz V30A.kdz)
5. Manually extract the CAB file in the same dir (use 7-zip or WinRAR)
6. Run this: LGExtract -wdb V***.wdb LGP920.dll (for example LGExtract -wdb V30A.wdb LGP920.dll)
7. Now you have some files, a few numbered BINs and one FLS)
8. Change directory to BIN folder to manually merge the bin files
9. Run this: copy /b "LGP920_AP[*].bin" "LGP920_AP.bin"
Should output something like this: (THE NUMBER ORDER MUST BE ASCENDING)
LGP920_AP[0].bin
LGP920_AP[1].bin
LGP920_AP[2].bin
LGP920_AP[3].bin
LGP920_AP[4].bin
LGP920_AP[5].bin
1 file(s) copied
10. Now you have your BIN (rom) and your FLS (baseband) files
I like living on the edge and flashing .kdz. hahha
But this is very helpful!

This is the best way to make things complicated! )) Just use LGP970 Rom Converter!! Put KDZ in same folder as application and run it! On first question press number in order wich is KDZ file, and after extracting on question about CWM recovery or something like that, just hit N on keyboard and you are done.

Yes, it is easy, but when you do this, IMEI is null so you need to fix it.
What is the easiest way to flash kdz files into p920?
Actually, it won't bomb your IMEI - I flashed the modem firmware several times already - it's the fault of CM10's modem RIL, so updating to V21D/E or V28 is usually recommended. No matter how hard you do, you cannot brick the modem unless you flashed obviously wrong modem firmware but if it was from any of O3D ROMs, you won't even lose IMEI. I flashed V21D modem firmware extracted with LG P970 ROM extractor and I didn't even need to touch the modem terminal.

Whell, i used P970 KDZ Extractor for Official V30A p920 rom and I had a IMEI problem. I did this from v21e and v28 and both have IMEI problems after that.
I think KDZ is the safest way.

This is definitely not the reason u had IMEI problem! I never had that problem and i used it xx times on two different phones. U probably downloaded faulty rom or have windows problem and it didn`t unpack properly. I flashed V28e and V30a with SmartFlash after unpacking KDZ and my phone works normally.
See? The only way to grenade your IMEI is by flashing wrong modem firmware or corrupted one. Thus, repeating what I said, no matter how hard you do, you won't lose your IMEI.

Guys, there have been multiple reported cases of lost imeis when flashing basebands (fls), it has happened to me twice.
Flashing kdzs doesn't create that problem, at least I've never read such a case.

I think some CPUs work better with one or the other. I have to ise this janky Netbook that has something like Windows 7 but its like Windows ultimate or somethn like that. I have tried so many times to flash KDZs properly and it just doesn't work for me and the one time I did get the tools to work I completely broke my network and had to format my CPU. Flashtool however works flawlessly for me and I have never had problems; then again I have everything installed correctly too which makes a huge difference. I had an imei issue once back in the ported SU760 days but I'm pretty sure a factory reset and a fresh base and flash fixed that. Its just what works for you.

Hi daniel.mota,
Your LGExtract.exe from LGExtract-0.2.1.7z works great and wrote an easy to follow tutorial. Thank you.
But, what can I do about the .bin and .fls file? I mean what is the next meaningful step I can take?

When I try to extract the wdb it extracts a file *.tot how to go through this??

Guys, so sorry for the tricky question, I've read in a Spanish forum that this tool is only going to work for Firmwares not bigger than 1gb, can you please confirm this info? or maybe sharing your experiences on using this with a big KDZ? Thanks a lot in advance

The problem is caused by a setting in Windows. For some odd reason Microsoft has chosen to hide file extensions of "known" file types by default. It's always been this way for Windows. Unless you change the setting, Windows will show the name without the extension. Files such as zip, jpg, bmp, txt, etc. would be examples of what are considered "known" file types. So, in this case, what's happening is people see the file name without the extension, rename it to firmware.zip and end up with a file that's really named firmware.zip.zip. I'm not sure why they chose to do this but I don't care for it at all myself. It's one of the first things I change after an installation of Windows if I'm going to be using it myself.

Update Center apps

Hello everyone, can anyone pull out the LG folders from system/priv_app, upload them somewhere and give me a link? Cause they only ones showing up for me are the LG Backup and Quicksomething.
Or, even better, is there a way for me to pull those apps from the 5.11PR .kdz file?
I think there is a tool to extract to .kdz, but i could be wrong.
Another method might be to grab the pr .img from one of the root threads and extract that?
