New Windows Mobile Devices?Any Alternative for enterprise use.. - General Questions and Answers

I have a bunch of HP IPAQ 214 . I have developed a POS restaurant-bar system for Windows Mobile. However ipaqs are hard to find now. There are some alternatives but i am not sure whether they are good. Do you have any suggestion ?
Also the application is based on web services so it is easy to implement it at another operating system.
So i am wondering whether there is anything.. WebOS is discontinued , ios (ipad, ipod) too expensive , android tablets maybe??
But i havent seen any industry terminal with android , resistable to water, tough etc...
What would you suggest about hardware ? Also are there any good devices as ipaw 214 today for win mobile?
Thank you!!!

windows mobile motorola a1000!!

can any one plzz help if i can i put windows mobile on my motorola A1000. i'd appreciate suggestions and ROMs
cheerz
No, it's a Symbian OS phone with a totally different architecture and screen resolution to Windows Mobile devices.
Also, unless Motorola developed a build for it, nobody else would have all of the necessary drivers etc to make it work.
Windows Mobile isn't a generic OS that can be installed on any device, it is built on top of an embedded platform specific to device hardware.
where can i get the latest symbian upgrade for it then..........its locked to three network........i wanna DE-brand it and put on a new symbian OS so it can accept other sim cards
cheers
I have no idea, this site is for XDA devices, mainly Windows Mobile, but with a few able to run Linux.
Perhaps if you look for a Symbian UIQ forum?
What you're looking for is:

I think from memory they have dedicated A1000 forums.

Does android o.s have decent apps in the pipeworks?

Hi
I'm split between getting the motorola milestone/droid which has a qwerty keyboard (which i badly want), and between the htc hd2 which has the windows apps which i badly need.
I am kind of stuck now between which one to choose for my new phone. So was wondering
1) is windows mobile 6.5 on htc hd2 backwards compatible with the software from windows ppc and other version of windows mobile? (mainly because the apps i want are stuff like rosetta stone on ppc, reflex mentor on windows mobile, lingvosoft on ppc etc which are old)
2) does android o.s have similar software either already or in the pipeworks from anyones knowledge (i know iphoen has a few of these apps or similar already btu no idea about android)?
3) how easy is it to hack android (i know i can test and trial out a lot of these apps before i buy on windows due to the great internet, but can you also do it to android and iphone)?
Thanks to anyone who can help clarify this,
guess no one knows
Hi, Android has over 20,000 apps and counting. It's also open source & has been hacked a pleanty

Windows Mobile Tablets??

Hello all,
With the flurry of Android and WinCE tablets that seem to have appeared, is it possible to install a WinMo image on these or is anyone working on a cheap tablet with WinMo installed?
Although the CE6 ones look ok it would be great to have a proper Office mobile installed rather than the Softmaker suite.
cheers
Try a smartq v5 or v7, no winmo, but it has android, ce, and some other form of linux and 1080p out. i know ownta.com has a Chinese ''tablet' with windows', but i don't know how reliable they are. honestly you're better off getting a real tablet PC with windows. you can get a hp tc1100 for cheap right now, and its a great tablet.
I saw about "Windows Tablets" news.
Microsoft announced the WP7 only used for cellphone, and windows tablets recommended for use windows 7.
Maybe ms consider windows mobile only a OS for smartphone...
"Chinese ''tablet' with windows'"is touchpad? It looks like a ipad...
As it sounds like WinMo maybe out of the question, can Cabs be installed/ported to CE6? Mainly trying to get Office mobile
htc shift
old and fat but good

[Q] How to create symbian kerenel and run it on pocket PC

We gather Symbian for pocket PC, as initial codes symbian already are but we not know how to create a kernel and to start it on pocket PC
If we can run kernel , big problems with GUI won't be as already there are programs for editing GUI and all other
But there will be problems with drivers

no offence mate but whats this got to do with WP7?
and what happed to the 10 post do-da thingy before folk can post new threads?
Symbian sucks , dont see the point of running it on htc hd2
234
Yes to hd 2, he's what, and unnecessary but it is needed on the weaker PocketPCs such as symbian you can play good games, even on a processor with 434MHz
I am puzzled.
We have Android, Win Mobile 6.5, WP7, Meego in early stages and Ubuntu all running off our HD2. Why would you want to go backwards and ask for Symbian.
For me, it is an old operating system which is outdated. For sure when it first came out, Nokia were the kings in the phone market but now, it is way down the pecking order now.
Some advice.....go and buy at Nokia 5800 for £60, there are plenty around and very cheap.

Want Android phone, but want to Dual-Boot Win 6.5 or 5.0

I want an Android phone 4.0+ cool modern phone... But I want to dual boot a Windows 6.5 OS on the same device? or Windows mobile 5.
Is it possible??
If not...I may have to give-up supporting these ancient win-mobile apps. A particular app I want, will also run on the real Windows 7/XP/8 (non-mobile) If that is another option at all, to dual on a phone. I also don't want to spend too much.
Edit: I realize on this site there are threads about dual-booting, especially under certain models. But they appear to be older, and I can only find them for Android 2.2 (froyo) I don't see anything modern. Is it more difficult now?
