How is it going everyone.. I was curious if anyone could tell me if bubby’s one click root would still work for my phone if I haven’t updated my phone to gingerbread yet? And hypothetically speaking, what I mean is that if I decline the gingerbread up date, or I just haven’t got the update yet... when I’m down grading my rom while using bubby’s program is there any chance that when it ask to install the update that the gingerbread update could mess with it or be installed instead? And sorry if this is a dumb question but I’ve looked in other places and didn’t find my answer so I just wanted to be sure.. So thank you for any help in advanced.
and i read on the thread that its been discontinued, but it should still work if my phone is still froyo right?
It probably would still work, but you really should use ATTN1's hack kit. It's being actively developed and has real-time support via the #liberatedAria IRC chat channel.

I used bubby's method and it worked well for me. Got it first try no problems. If that's what you feel comfortable using then go for it. But I gotta say I rooted one of my friends inspire with att1 hack kit and it was easy as well. As long ad you can follow instructions you'll be alright.

I used bubby's on my phone back when it was running froyo. Had no problems at all. Alot of my friends have also used the hack kit. Either way as long as you can read instructions, and really read them before doing it, you should be fine. If you piss your pants because your nervous while doing it...its ok I almost did. Hahaha. Good luck!
Also please please read each methods thread all the way through to see any problems anyone else may have had so you know how to handle them if they come up.

Hello everyone,
Ive been trying to follow this forum for a little while now, in hopes of learning abit about rooting my Inspire once i got it. I just got the phone today and think im ready to jump into my first root.
My questions are:
Is rooting absolutlety neccesary for me? My main goals are deleting the bloatware and enabling mobile hotspot.
Ive been reading about some issues with audio. If i follow the instructions in the hack kit, will the phone function the same after root as it did before?
Any tips at all for a first timer? Im not interested in changing the UI or anything like that. I just wanna remove all the bloatware junk, and enable mobile hotspot, and third party apps.
Ill keep reading and searching the forums as much as possible to answer my own questions, just thought id put this out there encase anyone had tips.
Many thanks!!
i just noticed this had been moved. Shouldnt i have posted this in the development forum with the other root stuff?

You will need to root unless you want to pay for the hot spot. If you use the hack kit you will have an unlocked phone not carrier oriented no bloat ware at all.

attn1 has made the process extremely easy with the new update..
As for tips..keep searching, I'm always finding new stuff all the time. As for rooting, just follow the instructions to a T and you will have no problem whatsoever, attn1 has an irc chat and the guys over there can help if you run into any problems. I'm not 100% sure, I'm sure someone can verify but I don't think you need to flash a new rom after you're rooted, I did just because if I was gonna go through the entire process I might as well try one..I'm now on my 3rd rom, it's just a lot of fun to try them all out at least once to get a feel for each.

I would say look into the dev forums for the inspire. But like everyone say read up on the roms that you may like I have tried a lot roms but for me ninja has been working the best for me, but that's me. But their is a lot of roms that are wonderful. I think their is a new root method in dev for inspire. But I used at the time bubbys method.
But if you have any ?s p m me I don't mind helping out new inspire.users

That's what I used as well. Worked wonderfully
Also, if you would like some screenshots of the rooting step, you can also refer to this guide, which has general instructions and also mentions Bubby's method as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033353
You'll also notice that guide tells you to wipe the Dalvik Cache, in addition to deleting all user data. attn1's instructions didn't include wiping Dalvik Cache, but from reading around, I think you should. The more "cleaner" your phone can be, the less you'll have to worry about once you flash the new ROM
Hope this helps!
i used bubbys one click root, i am running the rev. 4g ROM 3.5 i was wondering when its said to do a "wipe" before installing is that refering to when u are prompted in rom manager to do so, or in CWR and choosing the wipe data/factory reset? if i were to do the wipe data, would i lose my root access? thanks in advance

You think that was a stupid question?
OK, I have one for ya... I'm brand new to sites with "threads". (Is there a tutorial on how to use a site like this? ha!) So, I pray that I help to keep the threads clean, and post this in the correct spot, but this is my very first post, so... here goes. Have mercy on me. Just got my Inspire a week ago. Coming from iPhone (twas pretty good), then WP7 (hated it), I wonder where this phone's been all my life! Then, I learn about rooting. Loved the jailbreak for iPhone, so decided to study up on it for a couple of days and go for it. After much studying, found video that uses Bubby's one click method. Watched many times and followed it to a T (at least I'm pretty sure, I'd imagine that it would work if I did, though), yet at the part where it's supposed to search for "pd98img", it never seems to find it, even after minutes of wait. Read the FAQ, followed all instructions to a T. Can anybody help me? I've attempted this four times already, and I keep reading that other people have found it to be easy. Or... where would I go for help with this subject. I'm an XDA member and android user for life after getting this phone, I love the freedom. Thank you everybody for all of the time that you put into educating and helping others, like myself.

It sounds to me as though the GUI isn't pushing the PD98IMG though as long as you have ran g free and rage you should be rooted and s off and can go ahead and flash a custom Rom, though you are going to have to flash the radio back to stock since it will still be downgraded.
Sent from Hey... This isn't where I parked my car.
OP-
Those wipes are both the same. ROM manager is just a simple GUI that points to the CWR wipe upon reboot. As others said, you will not loose root. Just another reason to prefer Android over iOS.
Gentleanonymity-
You might find that posting in Bubby's thread will yield more answers to your question. In fact, it has probably already been addressed in there.
And since you are a new user here allow me to help you a little. First thing is to read and heed the stickies and forum rules. It is rude to hijack another users thread with your issue. Thanks, and welcome to XDA.

It's a mess right now, but hopefully we'll get something out for this soon. Too many script-kiddie types have made a real mess of this and the cheesy videos make it even worse. Rooting is a process that is not to be taken lightly. The carriers (more so than the OEMs) have gone through a lot of trouble to keep their interests secure despite what the OEMs have promised, and being the behemoths that they are, they wield considerable influence over what the OEMs can and can't allow.
That said, rooting the DHD/Inspire it is a difficult multi-step process involving several sub-processes, each dependent on a certain set of conditions necessary to proceed. In a perfect world, each step could go on to the next without a hitch and the "one-click" paradigm ensured, but all too many PCs have so much junk choking the USB bus that there is no good way to ensure that any given PC is going to be up to the task.
The "effen" manual was an attempt to get the user to actually read and understand all these nuances before attempting to try rooting. It was deliberately designed to ensure that the user was actually smart enough and competent enough to manage this. 95% of the users actually did this and rooted without a problem, but 5% or so were just too lazy to bother, and so the AAHK was modified to try and force the user to comply. Cheap videos and "simple" guides only compounded the problem. We were inundated with all manner of problems in the IRC channel, most of which could have been avoided by simply reading for comprehension.
Frankly, I'm surprised ATTN1 put up with it as long as he did.
My feeling is that the hack kit should be a linux only thing as the android is linux based, linux is more tolerant of USB nuances, and anyone competent enough to be running a linux system, and/or able to get a linux boot CD loaded will probably be an ideal hack-kit user.
FWIW, if you jump into the IRC channel when I'm around, I'll still do my best to help you out, but I'm only active in there about 10% of the day. We all have lives outside of the Internet.
I can definitely vouch for this. As I was completely capable of getting it to work on windows, ubuntu was the best environment for me. It should be a linux only tool as that would definitely weed out the lazy.

+1 on that man. Hell I got upset seeing all of the new threads being opened every day saying "please help me I cant root my phone". I cant imagine what attn1 felt like.
I loved how the kit made it interesting. It really made you learn more about your phone and what was going on. The kit really fell into the idea of this site. Which is that this is a development site....NOT a help site. Those same people that complained that they couldnt figure it out are the same ones now that complain when we tell them to search after they ask stupid questions.
I am going to agree with ya on the linux idea. Would be a good move imo.
I hope attn1 doesnt totally give up on this site and future phones. Maybe we need to have the kit by invite only. You must pass a test first before you are given the download link. Might also help the issues.
I got your 10 char right here
He plans on putting it back out under a few conditions. Follow this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377119) thread. Post 10 has an alternative hack kit that should work
I am 100% agreed with you guys. I rooted my inspire 4G with the hack kit and it was a great experience because I have never done it before nor didn´t have any experience with ubuntu. I did my research and read the effen manual several times before running the process.
Actually I failed the first time I did it and Att1 really helped me in the irc channel and dedicated me about half an hour to view what was wrong. He told me that I was probably having issues with the SD card and that was it. the next time I run the hack it with a different SD card everything was smooth.
It's a pity that people don't actually thank the dev's for all their hard work they do and we enjoy.
Hope that Att1 will post the kit again and let those who are interested in learning and getting involved have a powerfull tool as his. See ya
EDIT: Guys the Hack Kit is back!! Thanxs to Attn1....please follow instructions, read carefully effen manual and enjoy!
Lets hope people dont cause it to be removed again. So in short READ THE OP AND THE EFFEN MANUAL.

I've spent way too many hours trying to root my Inspire 4g. I'm using the ace hack kit. Yes I've read the effen manual and yes I've searched the forum, along with google and other forums. I've rebooted, tried multiple times to run the hack kit, and it never makes it all the way through. I also tried the flash method. The phone now has busy box installed and fastboot shows up, however fastboot freezes and will not let me select recovery. Also, at the top it stills says S-ON. I realize it needs to say S-OFF, but I cannot find any way to correct it. It seems like the hack kit is not finishing the install each time I try it. I end up having to pull the battery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you need help with the chatroom and are looking up tutorials.. rooting your phone is next level stuff and you should stop now. I'm not trying to be a jerk but seriously the chatroom is as easy as entering any user name, typing the verification code and hitting go. Stop now before you destroy your phone.

Really? That's you're scathing retort, I'm just comparing manhood, thinking I'm better then you because I'm cool I have a rooted phone? Okay, you caught me? I confess. I'm sorry you got buttmad.
Let's start off with the basics, I notice you signed up in Feb 2011. That's about a year ago so I can understand you don't remember the rules you agreed to, which state you must search before opening a thread. I see your next comment coming, "but I did search, I stated I searched here and in other forums". O rly? I find it incredibly difficult to believe that you searched XDA and didn't come across a thread that pointed you to the IRC chatroom, because honestly that's where about 90% of these types of threads get referred to. That's the whole purpose for why Attn1 created it so that threads like this aren't created and that those who need help can get help immediately. Rooting is not a simple process, despite how easy Attn1 has made it, its also very easy to get jammed up. More times then not its user error from not reading enough. I'm willing to make that bet this is the case here as well since you didn't know there was an IRC chatroom, which is stated in the first post of the hack kit thread. It's laughable that this thread is going to turn into "please help me use the IRC chatroom".
BTW, I used the IRC chatroom a couple days ago using my Mac with no issue so its something you're doing or something your computer is doing, which is going to be pretty hard to diagnose from all the way over here.

I agree with the guys here. Before moving into the rooting direction, you always have to make sure that in case anything goes wrong you will be able to fix it. It has nothing to do with being a man or anything, what Bacon tells you is that in order to succeed you need to know what you are doing. Anyway, and before you panic, my guess is that your SD card is not working properly. Try a different card and it will probably work. That same thing happened to me, and still happens when I boot into hboot. Seems, that the stock sdcard has some issues to be read in bootloader.
But again, you shouldn´t argue with the guys here, the are 100% right, you must ensure you will be able to achive your goal before doing anything at all....
well said bacon. makes me think of "i can drive a car so i must be able to build one" when you get people like this.
I knew nothing about rooting when i came here, had pages and pages bookmarked with reading material. the 'what ifs' for when things go wrong, any error code that the hack kit spit out i googled and most cases brought me to a tutorial thread here. best case tho is irc, if you need help using irc then like bacon said, rooting a phone is much harder because if you cant search for something you sure arent going to be very good playing in linux.

Hi everyone I'm a newbie to modifying android phones. I totally loved my stock g2x,but... like everyone else i wanted it to be the best and greatest! i tried installing cm7's nightly build as well as another developers build of ICS. Thats when i started having issues and thought i may have soft bricked my phone. I tried x0xhellx0x's HellFire™ Sandwich v 1.6 p999 4.04 and followed the guide located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513387 to the letter. Not surprisingly it worked like a charm and my g2x is back up and better than before. I was amazed that it automatically downloaded and installed all the apps i had been using previously on the stock g2x. I now have the latest and greatest g2x i can and am thrilled. My advice to any newbie trying to update their rom for the first time is to search the forum extensively, read all they can before they try anything, and if a guide is provided FOLLOW IT!!!!!!!!! I thought the guide for the helfire rom was going to be a pain as it required extra steps but in all honesty it was the easiest since it worked from the reboot without any issues. I've yet to encounter an issue with it and have to give credit to all the developers of the rom it is awesome. I haven't posted any questions here because i found all my answers simply by searching for them. this site is great and truly jammed full of useful and helpful information for newbies if we just look for it(search). Please search ladies and gentleman it worked for me and got my phone working again after i messed it up trying to take a shortcut. please search and read before bricking you phone.
Wait there is this thing called "search"? First new person on the g2x that used that feature. You deserve a medal and I just recently started and its not as complicated as it seems.

yes it's an awesome "feature" with a nice easy to use and user friendly drop down box which can be found in all forums and threads! i agree it is pretty easy an uncomplicated "IF" you follow the directions/steps outlined. I though the scrubber step was possibly going to be a pain because it made the whole process take a few minutes longer. However it actually made things go much smoother and was less painful in the long run. Imagine actually writing over the data properly preparing the phone for a new rom successfully working... what a concept! All in all it was a perfect solution to a newbies dilemma of a phone that would only stick in a reboot loop after a failed attempt to update the rom after not following all the steps suggested beforehand. Yes us newbies are an impatient bunch LOL
Holy ****, are pigs flying!?
But seriously it's nice to know there are some people who do search and find what they need.

yes didn't you hear???? the FAA cleared porky's flight plan at 8AM this morning
You should try klathmon's tutorial on hoe to over clock and under clock. I just used it and it made my phone a lot better. It is a lit of reading ( blame him for that, he devotes his time to help people like me and you), but is worth it and shouldn't be too hard to follow. If I can do it so can you
