[Q] How to mock friends with apps? - General Questions and Answers

My developers told me about...
Previous days we had a corporate brainstorming in questions how our products can be useful for customers. How we can support them better...
And one of us told funny story about how his friends-students using one of our apps - how they mock the others - they sending text message co-mates (something about jokes).
and app 'speaks out loud" for everybody listen (programm "Appsolution Receive&Speak" has a very strong and loud voice).
Actually this app was planed how app first of all for drivers... - because drivers don't need to take phones to theirs hands to view messages or incoming calls.
And how do you kidding your friends with apps?

[Q] APP check before project start - text auto response

So I had an idea the other day... probably not original, but I have come up short finding apps to serve my purpose. Being a software developer I have decided that if no one can answer my question, I will begin work on an app to solve my dilemma.
I would like to automatically respond to text messages sent to me, custom messages for people, then groups, then everyone else. I like my messages to be accurate to why i'm busy, unless its none of their business.
[THE QUESTION]
Is there an app that already exists that allows me to customize auto-responses to text messages (per-person/group/general) based on different profiles (situations)? (and if so what is it called?)
---------- MORE DETAILS FOLLOW ----------
I realize that some apps CAN do this, like making a tasker profile to send auto responses and some apps do it for specific things like "i'm driving right now".
I am looking for a way to easily set up what i would call "profiles" so i can....
take a nap
- girlfriend "taking a nap at hope, txt you when i wake up"
- general "not avalible right now txt you later"
driving
- mom/girlfriend "i'm driving, if its important, call otherwise i'll get back to you when i can"
- general "driving, txt you when I can"
at work
- girlfriend "working, txt you on my break"
- family "working, txt you after work"
- general "not available, txt you later"
out drinking
- family "out with friends, get back to you tomorrow"
- friends "drinkin with the gang, get out here now!"
you get the idea now
if I develop it, i would look at eventually including responses to voice calls. Possibly calender events to automatically do things like set work mode on if a calender event "Work" starts.
again if its tasker, i know i can do it in there and i have that app. I am looking for a cleaner, more streamlined way to set up responses to messages i receive.
Nice idea! I don;t think I have seen anything that extensive.
alright! well i'm gonna start soon... just have to start learning all the important stuff... lol the joy of learning a new programming language and platform!

[APP] Spawt - A Location Bookmarking App for the Galaxy Note - Need beta testers

Hi all, I'm a Singaporean developer and I'm here to tell you that I'm sick of idiots posting/bragging their daily life on Facebook, I mean, if you want to do that, why not do it so that I can ACTUALLY use that information next time? Thankfully, I'm a developer and I can actually do something about it.
WHAT IF, those stupid FOOD pictures taken at the restaurant actually POP UP the next time I am hungry and near that area? WHAT IF those slutty clubbing pictures could actually help me pick a club when I want to go? So here's my solution.
Spawt is a location-based experience bookmarking service so now you could actually point those idiots to the app and actually end up building a beautiful scrapbook of experiences that you and your friends can mutually share and discover.
Features
- Bookmark a great experience by creating a Checkpoint.
- Contextually discover interesting experiences from fellow Spawtters based on your current location.
* Spawt believes that your friends' experiences matter more, so your Facebook friends' Checkpoints will be treated as first class citizens.
- Builds a catalog of Checkpoints that will serve as a scrapbook of experiences for when you need an inspiration on what to do next.
- No need to create a whole new social network, leverages your existing Facebook network.
* Note, we send NOTHING back to Facebook, your privacy is MY topmost concern. (I should know, I'm a Facebook cynic.)
Download the app and tell me what you make of it, and most importantly how I can go on making it better for you and your friends. Search for "Spawt Beta" or get it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5jdHJsZWZmIl0.
PS: Oh did I mention Galaxy S2 kicks ass?
PSS: Oh also, if the app does crash, and it will, please click Report so I can fix it so you can swear a little bit less when the next update comes.
nice
great idea, am going to test that
thanks kuroshn, tell me what you make of it

[APP] [1.0+] Solution for claiming business calls

Hello guys,
I've been struggling at work with claiming the business calls i make from my mobile. It's been a mission to manually print an invoice, highlight the calls on the paper, then even more a nightmare to sum up all the calls i've made from my mobile device. So finally it hit me.. write an android app that can do this.
Took me like 3 months after work hours, but finally got it developed and published. I've managed to get the app to pull the call logs from my phone and then cost them at any fixed rate - per second or per minute. Then added a send/email function that lets me email my boss the business call totals. Yipeee.
If you might also have a need for this, welcome to download this free app from google play. Just search for 'Business Call Claim'.
Anyways, it would be nice if i could get some constructive feedback on the app from you guys. I am also a newbie in java / android development, seriously value your opinions and comments. Let me know if this is of use to anyone but myself.

[Q] Perfect smartphone for young kids

I'm a devorced daddy with two young children (5 and 8 years old). I don't see them every day, so I want to give them a simple smartphone. So they will have the ability to call me.
They don't understand phonenumbers (once they are mature, phonenumbers are side by site with the morecode in the museum). The youngest is not able to read yet, to choose names from the contactregister is not a possibility.
So I want a simple smartphone model, only with the icons of the smiling daddy, mummy and other family members. If they press the icon, they will call the family member. Simple.
They must be able to scroll the homescreen, through multiple icons.
But, other icons on the homescreen will distract them (they don't understand them anyway) and if they press such an icon (eg. settings) probably will make the phone unusable for them.
So I would like a password protected homescreen with only contact icons on it, and scrollable, so I'm not limited to the amount contact-icons (uncles, nephews, nieces etc.).
I want a simple callfilter, base on a whitelist. In this case Contactregister = whitelist. Incoming calls from others/miscreants (not appear in the contactregister/whitelist) must hang up instantly, without noticing the child.
And I don't want the possibity to inadvertently harass others, while playing with the phone (and per accident calling expensive numbers).
So not only the incoming calls, but also outgoing calls based on the whitelist.
I thought it will be easy to adjust the homescreen of the smartphone and protect it with a password, but I simple can't find a model how can do this. I also thought it will be easy to find an adequate callfilter based on a whitelist for In- AND Outgoing calls.
Unfortunately It seems nor the phone not the callfilter excist.
Is is possible to strip off a ROM to make this possible?
And maybe I just didn't find the right callfilter yet, Is there a right callfilter on the market?

[APP][4.0+] "CMX" Crowd.mx -- chat and leave notes where you are... anonymously!

[APP][4.0+] "CMX" Crowd.mx -- chat and leave notes where you are... anonymously!
Hello XDA!
I'd like to present crowd.mx or CMX as we've started calling it. It's a location based anonymous chat / note dropping app. We've been working on it for some time and we think it's really cool and would like to share it with the community here at XDA.
CMX has 3 simple functions one on each tab:
[Tab 1] CMX connects you in a chat room with the nearest CMX users. We literally mean nearest. If it's late at night and nobody is on, it will get people from all over the world for you to chat with. If you're at a concert with a lot of users nearby or on at a busy time, you will only see chat that's happening nearby. You have your own personal 'chat sphere' that re-sizes itself for you to have people to talk with. That way, there will always be someone on for you to chat with. If you want to talk more privately, like most chat apps, you can select users and send them private messages.
We think Tab 1 is really frickin cool.
[Tab 2] If you like Tab 1, this tab is even cooler. Here you can leave public notes at different locations. The notes persist at that spot and can be seen in a 100m radius around where you dropped it. You can have a group meet you on top of Mt. Everest and have a private conversation there. You can leave a suggestion at a restaurant *in* the restaurant for people who eat there later. You could announce to your neighbors that you have a BBQ coming up. You don't just have to leave public notes, we even allow you to leave hidden notes which are only visible to the user you selected... even if that user is yourself. You could drop a note with your locker number over your locker or leave love notes for your wife. There are a lot of crazy interesting things you can do with this. Like many social apps, this aspect of our app really needs lots of users to be cool. That's why we made Tab 1... to keep you entertained in the mean time!
[Tab 3] This tab has two purposes. It mainly functions to let you control where you are. So if there's a major event going on somewhere in the world, you can go there and chat directly with the people there.
This tab also serves as a place where you can 'make an announcement.' Announcements are a premium service that you have to pay for. They're kinda like the big-brother to the notes in Tab 2. You can choose what radius you want them to be seen within and they will re-broadcast themselves to people chatting in the area.
Finally,
We've worked really hard to make this service as anonymous as we can. There's no login. No usernames. No facebook. No anything. You can get on and start chatting/dropping notes right away.
We welcome you to come join us in the chat, drop silly notes around town, and give us feedback so we can keep working to make this app cooler and more fun for everyone.

====================================================================================
More Questions for the curious:
Q: Who made the app?
A: Myself and a friend, both of us recent physics phds... novice app developers!
Q: Where did the app come from?
A: A few years ago, we had a vision for a news app that would let the people report the news around them. While finishing our degrees, we worked on the infrastructure for the app in our spare time. Along the way, we came up with some pretty cool algorithms for indexing information by geography and other stuff. After we graduated, we set out to make that news app, but it was too big! So we looked at all the cool stuff we made for the backend and decided use it in a social app instead. So here's that app! We hope it's the first of many apps.
Q: What do you mean by anonymous?
A: Well, we really mean that we're committed to trying not to save or collect info from you. BUT, we have also taken extra measures to encrypt transmissions, encrypt data in the database, and discard information as soon as we don't need it. We'll continually work to improve on these as we get more experience. If CMX sees any success, we hope to hire experts far more proficient than us! If you're interested in more information about our security measures, we invite you to read our technical description on our message board. You can find the link in the playstore or in the app.
Q: Can I post anything?
A: Well, our hosting service does not allow porn. So you can 'report' people who have posted porn. And we can ban people who have posted porn. Also, we have protections in place to protect us from bot-spam.
Q: How can you ban someone for posting porn, if you don't track them?!
A: It's complicated. You should probably read the technical description mentioned in the anonymous section.
Q: How long will the app be in Beta?
A: Uhh, tough question!
Q: Why does it not show all the chat from when I was last on?
A: The messages sent to the Chat tab are *NOT* stored on our servers. They are redirected to the clients within range. So if your client loses its connection to our servers, you will not receive those chats. If your phone gets low on resources, it may close the service. We chose to do this to further protect people's identity.
Thanks! I hope you enjoy it.

Whoa, this sounds really cool! It sounds awesome to be able to go to a certain place and see a note about a review or recommendation for the place you're in

Thanks NGO,
I definitely agree with you!
We're in the process of planning a crypto-currency scavenger hunt to have fun with some of the location aware features for our early users. So hopefully, there will be a fun activity for people trying the app out in the near future.
MUCH CURRENCY! :highfive:
Shamelessly bumping to find more interested users!
I like the idea. Hopefully lots of users will pick it up too!

Seriously... *hint* *hint!*
Seriously - we get a lot of people saying they love the idea but they just wish more people were on.
If you really think the idea is cool, keep the app open and check in on it and join the chat every once in a while. It'll naturally get more busy as people do that.
And it won't be too long before there are enough people to start enjoying some of the cooler aspects of it.

I've been on to test it out before. The chat tab seemed lively. Leaving notes at specific locations is the most interesting feature for me.
