[Q] .GIF files on android's sms/mms - T-Mobile LG G2x

My question is that when I'm using any roms even the stock rom I can't seem to view .gif files. People sends me these funny animated pictures but it seems to me that android doesn't support them. Is there any way to view them on my text messages? there are apps to view them but you have to have it saved onto your sd card, but when the person sends it to me I can't even save the file. Is there a way anyone can make this happen or work? On my brothers Iphone he can view them when ppl text it directly to him.

I have the same issue. I have an hd2 running miui and it plays GIFs just fine but I can't play them on my g2x. I hope somebody figures it out.

I use Quick Pic as my default photo viewer/organizer. It has a built-in GIF viewer.
Its free in the android market. In my opinion its much better than the default android gallery.

Original Magic Messages & album .apk (or help)?

Does anybody have the messages .apk from the original Magic rom? I'm running the JACheroski 2.7.4r2 Hero rom & it's great, but there's an issue with the messages that I can't quite figure out; It's not just this rom, but every hero rom I've used -- Basically the time on all my messages is correct, but whoever I'm talking to their message is marked 4 hours earlier than they actually sent it. This makes the organization a real pain, since it organizes them based on when they were sent, so all their messages are grouped together before all mine instead of the order they were actually sent.
Does anybody have the .apk of the original messages app (preferably for Rogers)? Or even better, a solution to this problem?
And secondly, does anybody have the .apk of the original Magic photo album? I like to be able to have separate albums whereas with the Hero album it's just all my pictures grouped into "All photos".
All Rogers magic users have the 4 hour thing. Actually, it's on other phones, just easier to fix.
There is no absolute fix for it yet.

Best Privacy/Hide App

What are the best apps to hide certain apps from being seen/found? Same with pictures, vids, maybe even texts? Probably 1 app cannot do this all so if you know them, post them!
Compiling a list of the best apps of all categories for android, so help out the community and leave some names and a quick reason for its pros/cons over other apps!
Thanks!
Do you have videos or pictures you want to hide to your girlfriend?
do you mean "of" or "from"?
Titanium backup pro let's you freeze an app making it invisible and non functioning, just unfreez it and it works and the icon will return

bump! i know some of you have these!
Put a dot . in front of the folder names of the 'dirty' folders.
search for Hide it Pro in the market
what does putting a dot in front of it do?
It hides it. The folder can't be accessed from the gallery app, and it's hidden in the file manager until you check "show hidden files".
This also works in Windows and Ubuntu (Ubuntu = CTRL + H)

Wow That's interesting
shady SMS
it overrides all the sms system while letting everything like it should be ....
but it create a secret contact list and text or call from the people in that list get intercepted by shadysms .... call still go through though ... but the call history will not show it!
you can access your secret SMS from your hidden contact list by dialing "123" on the dialer =)
there is no icon of this app... can only be access by dialing "123" or whatever you set to after....
best app to keep your girlfriend
I tried Shady but I ended up going with My Calculator. Its actually called My Private Messages but everywhere (from the Market to your downloaded app list) it is reffered to as My Calculator as to not attract any wandering eyes. The app is nothing fancy from a UI perspective, but as far as keeping incoming and outgoing texts from others, this thing rocks.
It is a calculator that functions as a normal calculator until you type in your passcode followed by "+,=". It then takes you to a hidden inbox where messages from your selected contacts will land when they text you. You will know you have received a new text when a notification of your choice pops up in your status bar. I use the default one which reads something like, "A wireless network was found".
If you are looking for simple, tried, and true with out anything flashy, check this thing out.
One addition I would say would be useful is the ability to send all messages from unknown senders who arnt on your contact list to the hidden messages box, that way if you ever get a random text it would go straight there. Or has this already been done.
Does anyone use a Photo/Video vault that leaves the files it hides in basically the same location?
My external SD is bigger than my internal one. HideIt Pro would be just the ticket if it didn't insist on transferring my videos from the external to the internal SD when it hides them.
Encryption is preferable but not necessary. I just don't want one like GalleryLock that basically just changes the directory/file extension without even altering the filename.
I may have to go back to using my old two-app combo of Photo Vault & Video Vault, but I hate their UIs.

[Q] Attach photo to sms

Switched over to TB from Nexus1 and the stock sms app and now when I attach a picture to an SMS it automatically creates a slideshow. I just want a single pic attached I hate how it comes through as a slideshow and dont want to send the picture out that way. Is there anyway to solve this problem short of a 3rd party app or rooting and getting rid of senseui (For the record I have installed Handcent for now and plan on rooting and getting rid of sense just not there yet)
I'm confused to what you mean? If you just put one picture in it won't send it out as a slideshow. I have sent a bunch of MMS and no one ever gets it in slide-show form.
It creates the template and will convert it to a slideshow mms message if you add another picture, but for just one it shouldn't be doing that. Are you on the stock rom?
Yes stock and unrooted. It states it is creating a slideshow with one photo, I never sent it out to check and now for the second time in 10 days all of my sms and mms are gone, i restored them all from SD Card when I got the new phone and they have all disappeared
Yeah check with someone who you sent it to first, it always makes it look like it is making it a slideshow, but that is just preparing it in case you decide to add an additional photo.
Got it thanks, stock app didn't handle it that way and I hate when I get pictures as slideshow
I'm noticing this with picture messages that are being sent to me. I've gotten one from two different people in the past week and both are slideshows. It's kinda annoying and not sure how to fix it.
YES, it is extremely annoying. It did that with the EVO on Sprint, and my friend's Vibrant on T-Mobile does it also.
You have to tap it and pause it to view it for more than a few seconds and you can't zoom.
Pic quality viewing when you get it by text seems to suck as well.
I just sent htc an email about this when i get a response back I will post what they say

Same here.. had a friend send me some pics through sms. I asked him how he sent them as a slideshow.. he said, I didn't. Now I realize it's my phone doing it. It only happens from certain people though. He was using an iPhone.
Been like this since HTC released Android 2.2 with sense. My dinc didn't do it on 2.1. Horrible idea wish they'd revert back.

[Q] AT&T Gif. Support Hangouts

Well, I have tried to find the answers for a few weeks now with no luck so I will just pose it.
Has anyone been able to send a Gif. using the default KitKat rom and Hangouts application? I have attempted multiple images with no luck. I am trying to send to an iPhone.
Things I understand:
I know you can send a gif using hang out to hangout (gtalk to gtalk)
I am ABLE to recieve gifs sent to me from an iphone and they move and work in the hangouts app
When i try and send a gif the Nexus 5 compresses the image considerably so much so that it sends just a single static image whereas the iPhone will compress it as well without sacrificing the motion. I appreciate your time and any thing you wish to contribute.
My buddy said the gif I sent were just stills.

I am experiencing the exact same problem and would love a fix. Has anyone found a solution?

[Q] Can iphone MMS be received properly on AOSP MMS?

Whenever i receive MMS messages in android from phone it seems device wide they come in as a slideshow not individual pictures, i know this is an issue with android and im using Textra which seems to properly receive MMS but i would like to use the stock android app, pulled from CM or some other source is there any way to make one of these MMS.apk to properly show MMS when sent from iphone?
Actually if anything it's a iPhone "problem" as the MMS spec will combine them into a slideshow vs sending multiple messages for people that only have limited MMS but maybe unlimited SMS. Wouldn't want to send grandma 10 pictures of the kids being silly and have her get 10 seperate pictures that she has to open, close, open close.....
Back in the earlier "smartphone" days, you would send a MMS and include music and such to create a slideshow and the music would play when opened and the pictures go through the motions of changing like a slideshow should (timed, default is 5 or 10 seconds).
So to answer your question, no the AOSP MMS.apk wont do it any differently. That's actually just a front end for the internal workings of the system.
Well that sucks...
