Satellite dish and blank message

So thanks to all the hard work and shared knowledge by everyone here, I am running a very nicely customized AT&T Tilt.
Based on Alex.v5.ATT.161.UltraClean.ROM, FWIW.
Then tonight, out of nowhere, I get a blank text message, and in my status bar up top I get a little icon that looks like a satellite dish. There's no record of the text message in messaging.
So I figure, eh, WTF, soft reboot. Goes away, all looks good. Now about a half hour later it happens again.
Is AT&T trying to push some firmware update or something? Can you actually do this from the radio, without going into bootloader? It (the icon at top) persists even in flight mode, so i'm really confused what it could be communicating with..?
Forgive me in advance if this is a total n00b question, but figured if anyone knew the ROMs well enough to know all the secret holes, it would be this group... TIA!

My contacts backup wont work

need a apk or something for my contacts backup. I updated my friends phone ad he had all his contacts uploaded to uscc site but not gmail. and when I send the link from uscc.com for it says the phones not supported he's got a mesmerize

Did you by chance export your contacts to sd?
Otherwise the apk is in phidelts pnp rom extras

ive had the same issues with certain ROMS...i do want to find a better way to back up my contacts, and be able to restore them at a later time. ive had all sorts of weird stuff happen # unrecognized device on uscc "my contacts backup"
my latest foible was, being hailed as a genius "which im not" <--kills lots of braincells...often.
while working on a friends phone i asked him if he backed up his contacts, answer was "yes" so i proceeded with odin from stock to ec10 h57+theme. but i had to go back and get to stock ec10 for my contacts backup to work (blah) i even swapped out .apk from ec10 pnp before hand.. so needless to say i did a lot of back peddling when i had to reboot the handset a zillion times.(ever wanted to headlock someone) heh.
this is not a *****y/whinny rant...its challenging to do this sort of stuff, thats why i love it so much...i mean ive held this handset closer than my g/f for christsakes! but not ina sexual way.

heh yeah man sounds about right...good thing i have two hands otherwise id be phucked.
trust me though, if there was an easier method other than trial and error i would be heading in that direction in a heartbeat

Call issue

My phone all of the sudden decided to not answer calls but i can call people just fine. I'm guessing i have the missed call bug? It just all of a sudden decided to do it. Any suggestions?

Need to be a little more specific. The "missed call bug" means you get calls that do not ring your phone but on the caller's end ring just fine, then they end up at voicemail without you ever knowing they called.

I kept randomly losing service when I unlocked my phone, so I used my house phone to try calling it, it never went through even to voicemail.

Need to know a little more info. What rom and kernel is installed?
Have you tried EE19?

dfgas is working on a EE19 update to H57.
Unless you have gotten the latest available from the IRC then it does not have EE19 to fix the missed calls.
I and others are testing it now. It should be released soon.

He doesn't have the missed call bug that is fixed with EE19. He's already stated that he isn't receiving the call at all. The missed call bug would send the call directly to voicemail. Not saying EE19 won't fix the issue but they aren't the same problem.

If this really is another problem. Then may I suggest to flash back to stock Froyo 2.2 and then flash the EE19 update from phidelt82?

If the phone has been rebooted with what it currently has, H57, and
the suggestion to ODIN back to stock does not solve the problem, then it would appear to be a problem with the phone itself.
Any other thoughts?

Thanks for all the help, but i just re-flashed the ROM and did the trick. Thanks again!

I seem to be having the missed call issue too, but didn't before. I had flashed from EC10 w/ H57 to EE19 and the new H57. Any call received would go straight to voice mail. Could SMS/MMS and use data fine. Did a data wipe and Odin'd the EC10 recovery. Still had the issue. Tried doing a full EE19 recovery. No luck. Used Odin to flash EC10 then update to EE19 and it lost PRL and phone information for awhile. Tried going back to H57 to see if that would help, but it didn't. Any one have an idea to try?

Was going to give MIUI a try just for fun but definitely feel that Nill's Business Gingersense is the best so far..

[Q] Sprint VVM or Gvoice for CM7 that works??

I've tried several things. and Gvoice doesnt seem to find my phone number. it keeps failing on the step to where it txts a message to gvoice to activate it.

i did... it didnt tell me i had voicemail for 2 days. PLUS scared the LIVING HELL OUT OF MY MOM!!!! i died laughing.. my mom told me that my voicemail said "Hello Thresea, Kyle cant come to the phone right now but leave a message" or something on the lines of it.

lol nope, she just freaked out cause it said her name which i still find funny. shes afraid to call me in fear i wont pick up.

That's probally the main reason why I use YouMail... And for me at least I rarely ever have any problems getting notifications... But another reason why I use it is that Google voice tells me that my device can't be configured. YouMail does it with one button push... So idk, lol... Plus i like the nifty caller ID thing and stuff

i have to agree it is nifty. BUT one issue i have and idk if its youmail or if its CM7 or if its the Cyclonic rom im using. but it becoming annoying is when i receive a call no matter what if they are in my contacts or not. it says would like to accept this call press 1 now.

Edit: well it isn't CM7 I can't even find a setting to make that happen.. And YouMail can't take calls... I'm gonna check out Cyclonic but idk, if it really is that annoying you could also do a fresh install of the rom, wipe everything, would only take maybe 10 minutes

It has to do with the provisioning or some such wording. Try to dial one these numbers, I can't remember which is the newest that will fix your issues: *282678861049 or *282679540127 listen for the stutter and then try a test call. Sorry I can't remember I'm old! LOL

the first number was for verizion and the 2nd was youmail activation.

yeah that second number is for sprint it tells sprint to forward your voicemail to youmail that why you get the dial 1 msg. Man been a while since i had these probs,but if you go to the youmailsupport and search there are issue fixes . Sorry to be longwinded and disregard if you don't wanna use it.

Ahh, i think i understand, i misunderstood... OK, dial 1 for voicemail... From the YouMail app hit menu-help-forward to YouMail... Maybe that will work?

Well kinda like this ,once you get the youmail account set up on-line you dial *whichever number worked for sprint (lol) from your phone. Then on your phone menu>settings>Call>My Carrier tap then voicemail settings anduse the number that youmail gave think it's 714-xxx-xxxx .

Are you sure you're not already using Google Voice? Because the call announcement is a feature of Voice. Try going to google.com/voice under Settings -> Calls and see if you've got Call Screening enabled.

All i do is pick up the phone and hit answer. then it says "you received a call from a unknown caller please press one if you would like to accept" its quite annoying

Sprint VVM fix for EVO Shift on CM7!

Phone randomly calling people!

This is a new one for me. It HAS to be some sort of malware. My phone keeps calling people on its own, and when its calling them it shows on my phone that they are calling me! It's not in my pocket when it happens most of the time, so I've ruled out pocket dialing. Has anyone seen this issue or ran into anything similar?

I can't help you, but it would help if you posted what changes you've made to your phone.
ie: rom, theme, addons, dialer

I'm running a fresh install of infused 1.6. Its been quite some time since I have installed anything. I installed Lookout to see if would find anything. It didn't. My phone has done this 3 times to 3 different people in a 5 hour span. All with the same situation. It says I am getting a call from them, their phone says they are getting a call from me.

No one else has seen this issue?

If it's still happening try reflashing.

Have you installed any newer apps prior to this incident?

i've done this to people through prankdial.com, sombody may be screwing with you, have you received other prank calls latley? Recieve any calls from your "neighbor" asking why you keep stealing thier newspaper, or form Kirpal asking why your daughter came to his house and kicked his dog as well?

My phone does this all the time...then I realize it was my kids

Stop drinking mine does this all the time .Oh and um detailed billing will get you in the dog house fyi.
