unless you reflash with master clear i do not know sorry i am still new to this
If you installed Froyo , voodoo is long gone , as Froyo overwrites kernel , files you see on your SD card are nothing more then left overs you can delete them any time you want.
I can say that compared to stock 2.1 and using stock 2.2, 2.2 has been faster for me on every level. 2.2 is not as fast as any version of cognition I have ever used so it depends on your comparison I guess.

so i can just delete the folder right?
Me too!
I'm in the same boat buddy. I'm running the latest Cognition with the ext2 lagfix from SL4A and it's almost unbearably slow. I know I must have done something wrong or there is some kind of error because it's just painfully slow. Also I have a CPU monitor and for some reason my CPU is almost always above 90%. Another weird thing I noticed is that even after I kill off the extra apps with Advanced Task Killer, they seem to open back up almost immediately. For example if I kill 12 apps, and then kill again 5 minutes later, there will be at least 7 or 8 apps running again without me opening any. I'm excited to have Froyo, Flash is rad, but I'm hoping DG comes out with a new Cognition soon because I know something is wrong with my set up right now.
At first, I have restored all my apps with Titanium (apps only), and the phone was so slow as to be unusable. Without those apps, it's fast enough. Obviously, many of those aren't fully compatible with Froyo. Will have to reinstall the apps one-by-one, and see what happens with each one. PITA, but at least the things will be more stable that way.

so its the apps huh... and we all thought froyo was going to be awesome
Can't be the apps... I installed the apps one by one after flashing cognition 2.2 and it is really slow. It was painfully slow at first, but after some use it seems that the phone "got used" to froyo or something the lag isn't THAT bad.
Maybe there's a pattern between the phones that lag and the ones that don't.
For example, mine has the 3 button combo disabled and yours?
I absolutely love FROYO I previously had an iphone 3g and jumped over to the captivate with 2.1. I wasn't really impressed with android at all until this 2.2 update. I am currently running 2.2 with the one click lag fix, also I used the alter minfree settings within the one click lag fix which sets a limit on the amount of memory the phone can use at one time, I set mine to strict seems to work well. My phone is faster than its ever been and i have used all of the various roms prior to Froyo. Try getting rid of the task killer and just use the alter minfree settings within the one click app.
Battery life seems much improved as well
You are running a leaked ROM with a bunch of weird crap in it. Kallsyms shows a whole bunch of tuner functions that I'm pretty sure we don't have and some other stuff that may be garbage or a product of the newer kernel source, I'm not sure.
This is probably just a quicky test port of the I9000 ROM so I wouldn't worry about speed (or stability) yet.
Sherpa
I have a Captivate without the 3 button issues, and it's really fast on 2.2 Cog with lagfix applied. All my apps installed without issue using TiBu. I even had the JPK euro rom installed on it with our JI6 kernel, and that worked fine too, but I couldn't drop the bloatware.
And for the guys who insist on using a task killer, and are always worried about using too much ram: http://lifehacker.com/5650894/andro...ed-what-they-do-and-why-you-shouldnt-use-them

Im pretty sure that people have already said not to restore your backups from Titanium. It has been reported to cause alot of issues. At least dont restore core system components.
No speed issues with mine.
My steps:
Re-flashed to JF6 first.
Completely wiped my internal SD card
Installed COG 2.2
Ran the LagFix from SL4A
Reinstalled TiBU and apps
Reconfigured settings/sounds/etc.
Does the email app work well for everyone? For me, it is barely usable, it always hangs and seems to slow everything down. I had to remove my exchange account because just having it there made the phone constantly lock up and freeze, and now even my yahoo takes forever to simply open the inbox.
I'm running 2.2 without Cog or any lag fix and it's incredibly slow and has horrible battery life. I'm going to try to recalibrate the battery and see if that will make it more accurate. More than likely it wont change anything.
I'm just holding out for a stable/near-final Cognition 2.2. I know it has the potential to be very zippy.

Root and do the one click lag fix. Exchange email is plenty snappy afterwords. I still don't have calendar updates, but at least I can use the email app.

Mine was the same way. It didn't even function most of the time (emails wouldn't load)
I'm running the OCLF now and I hope it makes a difference.
Edit: I'll try this to fix battery issues as well
Code:
adb shell
mount -a
rm /data/system/batterystats.bin
hey,
So I have a Bell Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant, it is rooted, runs 2.2 & Speedmod kernel.
It has been running fine on the speedmod kernel for several days now, until today. Out of no where, when I was using the phone Launcher Pro started CONSTANTLY force closing, basically leaving my phone in a useless force closing cycle.
AND, on top of that there are other apps that are force closing about every 10 seconds or so. they are: Market, Clock, and Samsung Apps.
Any idea whats happening here?
Thanks a lot!
~Dylan
did you install any recent apps that cause problems? it might be one of them.
You may need to ODIN back to stock.. well thats how we go back to stock on Galaxy S VIBRANT.
should be the same.
I haven't installed any apps that have caused problems that I know of...
I was just listening to music for an hour or so in the car, then when I unlocked my phone I was met with countless force close messages.
Yes, I was thinking that might be the route I have to go, but I was hoping there would be some way to uninstall those problem causing applications (namely Launcher Pro) somehow. I don't know how I would go about uninstalling it though, as my phone is basically rendered useless due to the constant force closing.
But thanks a lot for the input!

i don't think theres a difference between our phones, mines Tmobile Vibrant, but theres a built-in feature in stock, and most custom roms called SAFE MODE.
most people don't know about this.
This mode helps you do exactly what your facing, uninstall apps that act up.
In Safe Mode, it disables any startups and all that shiz.
Try going in like this.
shut down phone.
press power and wait till it get on vibrant screen, then start holding the MENU KEY the whole way until it starts.
the way to know if thsi worked is.. on the bottom left hand corner, it'll say SAFE MODE with a box aroundi t.
if this doesn't work, ODIN is the best way.
If you haven't turned it off recently, try a reboot. Yeah, standard boring advice, but I had constant-force-close issues a few months ago and a reboot fixed it.
So I somehow managed to get into the task manager by long pressing the home button, then from their I was able to uninstall Launcher Pro. So the CONSTANT force closing has stopped.
BUT, I still have plenty of other apps that are force closing very consistently. For example, everytime I go into the messaging application it force closes, so I can't send or receive texts. Along with that, Facebook, 'Clock', Samsung Apps, & Market are force closing.
When I go into the market it says **Connection Error (or something like that) and then sometimes force closes....so this problem renders the market useless as well.
Oh, and when I go into safe mode, I still get the constant force closing... but thanks for that info! I had no idea you could even go into safe mode with this phone.
Honestly, at the point flashing stock firmware back into ODIN is looking like my best option, but I reallllllly don't want to lose all of my installed apps, and text messages, and whatnot.
Anybody have any other ideas?
btw, thanks a lot for the input so far!
So I did a backup of all my data using the speedmod recovery menu (volume up, home, power)
If I reflash the PDA in ODIN, will I still have the speedmod kernel, thus allowing me to recover my backup of installed apps, texts, etc.?
Or will re-flashing wipe the backup and get rid of the speedmod kernel..?

Idk what the speed mod thing is.. But yes. It will be erased.
If u want to save backups of apps..
Get titanium back up doesn't matter if u get pro or free.
Just restart on everything dude.. Like a clean fresh install.
Its something that u installed or flashed that's causing these problems.
Sounds like your phone's internal SD is dying. Our Bell Vibrant has a nasty habit of the internal SDs dying, and I've heard that force closing all the time is one of the signs that the SD is going. There's a thread in development about this. I suggest you start backing everything up
Alright, I started from scratch and now everything is working great! thanks for your help guys!
plus, now I'm even running Darky's v7.5 Gingerbread Edition, this ROM is soooo epic. haha

Hey everyone... I'm new here so be gentle
I'm running a captivate with the latest CM nightly (#104) - installed last night. I have AutoKiller running the aggressive preset and - for the most part - things run smooth. I didn't wipe the cache partition when I installed #104 from CWM (I forgot, but things still work a bit better than they did).
Anyways, I've noticed that some of the RAM heavy apps, most recently words with friends, seems to lag after a min or so of usage and I get the "force close"/"wait" dialog. If I wait, things go back to normal for a little bit.
When I first installed the app about a month ago everything was working great and had no issues. I'm trying to get back to that point.
Some quick background:
Was running CM7.1 RC1 prior to #104
Performance on CM7.1 was awesome until within the past week or so when stuff lagged a lot and was generally slow to respond (lots of 'wait' dialogs for many apps)... this prompted the use of Autokiller and the upgrade to #104.
I've been surfing the forums, and I don't think I'm missed anything, but I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
First off don't use a task killer. Android is a smart OS and using a task killer will just dumb it down. It really does take a day or two for your phone to settle after flashing a new rom. When you flashed the new CM7 did you by chance use Titanium back up to restore apps? Sometimes when you do this they don't work right and becoming memory hogs is one of the things they do.
I would suggest a clean flash wipe everything. Then don't use a task killer. If you absolutely have to use Titanium backup or something like it only use it to restore data. Re-download all of your apps from the market and this should end up making your phone fast again.
Thanks... In the end I did just that. I futzed around with a few things and really made things run sluggishly so I finally wiped everything.
I did use TB to backup everything and I've been slowly adding the apps/data back. I also did the v6 supercharge script which has done nicely also (I didn't mess with the minifrees though since that was part of my problem in the end )
The only thing I forgot to back up were my CM7 settings, so I'm slowly putting all those back where I had them. I think CM7 can backup its settings, I just forgot to do it.
Anyways, the phone is wicked fast and responsive now. It's really nice how the phones can be wiped and put back together so fast.... comps were never this much fun to play with.
Is there any way to backup the app settings without rooting?
I do not currently have access to a Windows machine to root my phone but I badly need to restore factory settings as the camera keeps force closing when I switch into video mode.
not possible without root.
You could try clearing the cache.
If you're not taking 3D pictures, you can also try download a new video recording app for now till you can root.
Thanks, I managed to find the Linux rooting method so got it all sorted now.
I still seem to be having issues with the time and widgets on the home screen sometimes freezing though, it must be one of my apps as even from factory settings it triggered it after recovering my backup. I ended up reinstalling most stuff from Market and just using Titanium to restore data where absolutely essential, seems to have reduced the problem.
That said, the problem is like that - one minute it will work fine then suddenly one day the time and widgets will fail to work whenever WiFi is connected. Wish I knew what was triggering it, I'm hoping its a glitch with an app that doesn't like Froyo and it will magically go away with Gingerbread.
So so far, yesterday I've had the multi-touch keyboard force close maybe 4 times, the drag racing game 8, and a soft reboot. I have not rooted yet... holding off until there is more of a point. Anyone else having issues like this? I have 28 more days to do an exchange, I wanted to see if it's just my phone or not & either way I'll give it another week to see how it fares. Soft reboot occurred at maybe 40 hours or so of run time.
I use Go keyboard which has a far better layout and the swype ability as well, never had a fc. I dont play games. Have gotten a few fc's on various apps for unknown reasons, a few freezes in apps, but it happens so rarely that its not an issue. I did have to do a hard reset the day I got it though, but it was my fault.
sent from my Motorola Atrix 2 via Tapatalk
try doing a battery pull, not saying it would help but it definitely wouldnt hurt.
Fter rooting FC's also
After rooting (One-click method) and running Titanium Backup Pro to get a good backup of my phone. I now have a similar FC issue. Every time I try to open a contacts details, in the contacts app that starts, it will FC on me. The same thing happened to the phone app, works only if I dial a number from the keypad, click on a recent call in log, baam! FC I had to install GO Contacts/Dialer and they work fine. I tried to clear the cache/factory reset but the issue persists after I just loose all my info.....
Any way to Flash back to stock yet, think its a little to soon to root this racehorse....
I now have 3 apk's in TB that have a line through them. I cannot backup/restore/freeze the apps. Under the lined out app it says "No Backup yet"
com.motorola.blur.contacts.sync.yahoo
com.motorola.blur.provider.linkedin
com.occamy.andriod.motoxmayhem1lite
Anyone that can post these apk's so I could re-install/repair would help me greatly. I had this similar issue on my old cappy and replacing the app fixed it. I think when TB makes a backup and closes the app it some how actually deletes the app and/or corrupts it and then you have to replace it.
Rooting should no effect on the problems you are having. Did you freeze anything with TB, if so unfreeze everything, if not try unistalling it and see if the problems persist
If you are rooted, download ROM Manager and run fix permissions. That should help out with FC's.
