What is the use of upgrading the radio of the device.......Is it safe and OK to flash with custom ROM and leave the exsisting radio untouched or is it a must to upgrade the radio also when flashing with custom ROM.
What are the uses of upgrading the RADIO???????
Radio means wifi, calling, BT, so if there are some problems with that provider give you a new radio.
Radio is flashed in bootloader, as file named PMG88.zip and as always playing with bootloader is unsafe. I always use stock RRU with newest radio so i have certain that all will go ok. But doing this in this way always remove recovery.

When ever you flash a rom, I understand that using ruu will get you back to stock. Still rooted with s off but what about the radio when you flash a custom radio? Is that reset too? Leery of messing with the radio but I feel I have a good grasp on the rom thing
Thanks!

Yes, if you use the ruu everything will be back to stock except the root and radio off. If you want to make sure just go back into hboot and look at the radio version if it says m2 at the end thats not the stock radio. It needs to say M at the end. You can find the stock radio in the ace hack kit v2. Unzip it and look in the radio folder. You can flash this by putting it on the root of your sd card and restarting your phone in the bootloader and it will flash the stock radio.
if i want to flash latest custom rom by baadnewz for my sensation do i need to flash radio? if i didnt flash latest radio did it will effect that phones performance?i never flash radio on my phone coz i dont know how. please help. tq.
radio flash
I have the Thunderbolt so I'm not too sure how it works with the Sensation but if the Rom requires a different radio then you need to flash that radio or the cell phone or data won't work. Cell phone might work but guaranteed the data won't.
hi,
i have downloaded this radio ----> 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2
checked the md5 and flash it.
now if I check what radio I have installed from the phone it says: 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2
why???
is it the same? or I installed another radio?
12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2-->12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2
I figured that out bymyself
it's the same radio, but it can have different configurations U,P etc.
hope it helps somebody
Need help as I'm doing it for the first time
I have Radio 5.69.09.05a_22.50.50 and bootloader 4.3.2250
I want to flash RSPL and then DFT ROM, but as I see I need to downgrade bootloader to something like 1.52
If I flash Radio 5.66.09.09_22.46.50 from Mondrian Cingular 1.52.502.04 file on my device , will it brick it? can I flash 5.66 radio over 5.69? to downgrade bootloader?
or what should I do to get any Custom ROM?
You should actually be able to downgrade SPL 4.x directly (3.1 or lower is needed to install HSPL, which then lets you flash a custom ROM). Have you tried just rolling back to an old restor point (NoDo, perhaps) or flashing just the SPL (you can do this using the RUU) of an old ROM?
I downgraded my SPL from 4.5 to 3.1 by doing this. I'm still using a stock ROM, but until I install an update that overwrites the SPL, I know I *can* install R/HSPL any time I want to.

I restored with zune to NoDo and bootloader is still 4.3
I'm afraid to flash directly as it was said by Cotulla that flashin 4.xx MANGO `SPL-s will brick the phone. so can I just flash a lower radio version that downgrades the SPL, or I need a goldcard method?
With 4.x you should be able to use a radio/SPL image to downgrade. It's still installed using RUU, but you don't need a full ROM. There's even a configuration that won't wipe the phone when you flash it (obviously not useful for a full ROM, but I found it handy when I was trying different methods but didn't want to need to restore a backup to get my data back).
I pulled the download for my phone (radio + SPL pre-loaded in a RUU set up to not wipe the data) from the HD7-specific forum.
Dear Mr. GoodDayToDie
Could you please point us to where we can get the RUU file for the Surround device.
I have the Exact situation as Mr. DJSave Have.
Thanks in advance

As far as i understand if I
1. Run AOSP Roms the radio that shows in H.Boot Doesn't matter at all
2. Run Sense Roms the radio that shows in h.boot does matter and the only way to truly change it is by flashing ruu's
Im just wondering btw.
AOSP roms use the radio that comes with the rom. Sense roms use the radio thats flashed on your device.
If you have an old hboot, 1.06 or 1.09, you can flash radios in recovery. On newer hboots you can not. You can however downgrade your hboot. There is a sticky on that.
Is it possible for a custom ROM to disable a radio?? I was under the impression (after much Google-ing) that a S-ON phone can NOT modify the radio via IMG file (or any other method).
I have been trying several ROMs on my Desire S and finally found one I really like. Problem is, I no longer get any radio signal (no bars, no service). My Desire is rooted/unlocked, running Cyanogen Mod 9, HBOOT 2.00.0002, S-ON, radio 3822.10.08.04_M, service provider is AT&T US.
Any thoughts HTC gurus? THANK you in advance for any helpful info

***Pls no flaming just cause I LIKE a smaller form factor phone. If I could buy a NEW phone with 3.7"-4" screen I would. They just don't make em.
flash the boot.img via fastboot commands straight after u flash the rom. boot.img is in the rom zip. u must do that everytime u flash a rom coz ur s-on.
P88IMG.zip is key, not boot.img.. correct?
I have always completed a boot.img flash after loading any new ROM (otherwise they don't work). I don't think that's the problem because the boot.img has nothing to do with the radio. As far as I know, the P88IMG.zip file is the one that (when flashed) determines the radio version AND it can NOT be flashed on a S-ON phone (like mine).
for some reason i had wifi in my head :what: yh the rom shouldnt do anything to the radio at all, try flashing a different rom (sense) see if the problem is still there then ul know if its hardware
