Best pocket cam? - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

Does anyone actually feel like the the MT4g Slide can replace your point & shoot camera?

Mine has. I take lots of photos and since picking up my MT4GS I don't take the point and shoot out with me anymore.

Bump.... anyone else? For example, I'm going on vaca to California and want to know if it is worth it to buy/bring a small camera.

My digitial camera is a bit older now, it's a kodak model I picked up from circuit city (yea, that should tell ya something if you live in the u.s.)
Even so, my digital camera is a 10 megapixel camera, and I think the ccd in it is better then the one in the phone. The HDR option on the phone makes it compare pretty closely though.
I'm not entirely sure about direct comparison of picture quality between the two yet, but comparing the stock camera app on this phone to my pocket camera - the answer is yes, it can replace my digital camera, for me.
The kodak was still an entry level camera at the time I bought it (around $150 several years ago) but it gives me more adjustment options in manual (program) mode.
Specifically: I can set my iso to 1600 and 3200 whereas the phone only goes up to 800 - and I use this at night to get better pictures in darkness.
A couple other small adjustments my digital camera offers me that the stock camera app doesn't for the phone. But really, this is the kind of nit-picking that says the next step up from the phone is a DSLR, at least for what I have.
The sweep shot option on the phone is many times better the the panoramic option offered on my digital camera, and the phone takes pictures much more quickly then the digital camera does.
The effect settings on the phone are pretty sweet, I can take the picture that way instead of adding it after the fact. Too, the phone will let me make some edits to my pictures using apps I can get (even some free ones that aren't bad.)
I am not sure of the quality being offered by current model digital cameras, but aren't they up to something like 14 megapixels now?
If you're trying to be a professional photographer, then just carrying around a phone as your camera is a joke. From the casual picture taker perspective, the phone is pretty awesome.
I suggest running around with it and snapping a whole mess of pictures where you live now. Take a day, and pretend you are a tourist in your own town. Find your local landmarks, or anything that looks cool in your town and snap pictures of it all.
(make sure to find one cool looking building, one cool looking tree, and snap some pictures of crowds and traffic)
Mess with the different modes and settings, and try to take the same picture multiple times with the different settings.
Come home and put all the pics on your computer, print a few out, and see how they look.
If you are only going to end up with 4x6 and 5x7 pictures that you print out when you're done, the camera is sufficient. If you are trying to make poster sized professional prints - get a DSLR.
From what it sounds like, though, the camera on the phone should be fine for you.
(sorry if this is a bit rambly, i'm still waiting for my coffee to finish brewing after just waking up)

That was very helpful. I don't have the phone and was considering getting it. Anyone else

here are some pics I've taken with the MT4GS... has completely replaced my P&S cam since I bought it. quality isn't quite as good as most decent P&S cams I've used, but it's close enough that it makes sense not to haul another piece of tech around. overall, I'm impressed.. especially coming from the G2 which had a pretty lackluster camera.

(apologies for posting massive pictures, tried to size them down a bit)

Pics look good. How would indoor/party photos look?

BUMP......

Actually indoor photos are what surprise me the most. The low lighting performance is truly quite good for a phone. The only thing is that white balance tends to be a bit slow to kick in for some reason. When indoors or in a dark setting, the image will often start out very red. Point the camera at a white wall or something and the balance will fix itself right away.
Here are some photos taken indoors and/or with low lighting, no post editing done. Photos are lower quality because I'm taking them off of facebook:
Dim Lighting
During Sunset:
This one is pretty well lit but the dynamic range worked out nicely:
I applied one of the phone's stock filters to this one, but it was done in low lighting(just one tabletop lamp on the other side of the room):
This one is in daylight obviously, but its an HDR shot that came out nicely:
BTW, the phone has an "autoenhance" feature which is enabled by default. I prefer to disable it. Basically it sharpens edges and removes noise, but imo it makes the image lose some of it's fidelity at higher zooms. I therefore prefer to turn off the feature. I enjoy doing post-work on my photos so I'd rather reduce noise in Photoshop if I need to (rarely).

Oh, and sorry for the double-post, but I will again re-emphasize turning off autoenhance unless you're taking photos in a really dark area and/or are tremendously averse to noise artifacts(which are still pretty minimal in most cases). While certainly it's no DSLR, nowhere near, it actually can replace most point and shoots and is the best phone camera you're going to find outside of the Nokia N8. Some say the Galaxy SII is just as good but I strongly disagree. Color fidelity is what matters the most to me in a portable camera(alongside decent sharpness) and this phone excels in that area imo. Besides, at the end of the day, it's the photographer that matters. Not to say you need to be a photographer, but use whatever light you have available smartly and you might be surprised with your results.
Gonna post a few more shots for fun. These are all completely unedited:
Panorama:
Hydrant:
And me:
Sorry I don't take that many pictures of people lol, but they look good and the flash does a good job of illuminating without being harsh.
Also, as a general tip, if you actually want your pictures to look better than average, you can have a little fun in photoshop or GIMP. I am unfortunately nowhere near being able to afford a DSLR at the moment, so I tend to try to compensate with some post work with image editors. I'd much rather do these images the "real" way(and keen eyes can see the artificial details), but this camera is good enough to get some nice post-editing work for artistic effect.
The following have been edited with a lens blur filters, grain addition, and/or color correction:
Me again:
Old-Camera Style Close-Up:
My Sister:
Nice Walk:
So yea, I'm by no means a "real" photographer, but I enjoy putting a bit more effort into my photos than the average person, giving them a bit of my touch that goes further than, like, instagram. Put some thought into your shots, and you'll see the MT4GS will be a powerful tool

Seriously, I love this camera.

This has all been very helpful. Has anyone tried it in a party environment or really relied on it during vacation? Have you had any truly BAD results?

Captivate camera vs iphone 4

Hey all,
It seems that both the iphone 4 and the captivate have a 5mp camera. However, there are 2 Huge differences that i have noticed.
1st. The gallery on the iphone allows you to double tap a photo to zoom in, but it also refocuses the image turning it incredibly clear. The captivate allows the double taping, but it does not refocus the image
2nd. The iphone 4 camera appears to be much sharper than my captivate, edges seem smoother and overall quality seems much clearer. The captivate seems like it has a white distortion to it.
I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this. I love the captivate but i'm on a "vacation" with the parents and i keep switching to iphone because of its amazing camera quality. Maybe there are settings that i'm not inputting, or maybe another app i should try?
Camera Settings on captivate:
Focus Mode: Auto focus
Timer: Off
Resolution: 2560x 1920
White balance: Auto
Effects: Normal
ISO: Auto
Metering: Centre-weighted
Image Quality: Superfine
1st. the gallery as in gallery of photos already taken? because it is impossible to refocus a picture you have already taken. although the captivate if you tap the screen while your taking a picture it will focus on that area for you
2nd. could be, never compared them myself
He means when you zoom in abd its blurred, the iphone fixes it.
The iPhone 4 has got the captivate beat in terms of camera quality. I think even the 3G (not even 3GS) is better than the captivate. I seldom take pictures as do the majority of people I assume. Its not really too important as long as it takes decently clear pictures. No phone can really take the place of a cheap point and shoot camera yet (and I mean current popular phones, not those weird cameras with phones built in.)
The camera quality is definitely somewhat of a bummer even though its acceptable. The worst part is that the camera has a large red blotch in the center if its in anything less than optimal lighting. It can only really be seen when pointing at a white wall though.
Yeah this phone is only good for its small size, screen, processor, and video chip. Everything else it does courtesy of Google. Samsung could very well have produced the perfect phone if they spent as much time as apple did, but I would say the Epic 4G is pretty close.
I disagree.
IPhone 4 > Captivate > 3GS > 3G
But almost any decent point and shoot is far better than any of them.

Hey,
Thanks soo much for the quick replies. I've come to learn that the camera on the captivate is very tempramental, sometimes the shots look incredible and others it can be pretty horrific. Sunset photos are much much better on the captivate than on the iphone which is a nice plus.
Another question i have that sort of pretains to this topic is about the gallery itself. If you take photos with the camera and save them to the phone they show up in gallery with the most recent photos in front. If you use the camera and take photos but save them to the SD card, they show up with the most recent photos in the back. Is there anyway to fix that?
P.S. I just recently learned (and accomplished) flashing the JH2 rom to my device!! i'm stoked
Thanks again
When I compare my wife's iphone to my gs, my pictures do stuck compared to it. Not to mention the iphone has a light. But, when it comes to video capture, the gs is better.

I'm almost inclined to agree, some videos do come out amazing on the captivate and others not so much. But at least with videos there is a close comparison, the photos are no where near eachother though
The iPhone has an amazing camera, honestly, I'm not to disappointed in losing to it, I new it probably would going into it. To me lower quality camera is far out weighed by the higher quality OS.
I've also noticed that a lot of Captivate video seems better than iP4 video. Aside from a sharper, lesser noise picture, the iPhone seems to exibit some jellyfishing where the Captivate does not.
I don't know about you guys, but I LOVE the captivate's camera. Definitely a step up from my old bold 9700s. Here is a picture I took in the rain b&w to make it dramatic lol:

iphone4 has hands down the best mobile phone camera. It takes the best videos and photos easily surpass any other phone. It has to do with their "backlit" sensor. Each pixel on their sensor collects more light than on any phone sensor. There's no two ways about it.
Captivates videos can be good depending on lighting conditions. I wish that had a setting for wind mic however. Not useful if the video is on a boat or in a car.
GSMarena did a very good comparison of the two phones, click next page until your at 'camera comparison'. They gave the galaxy s a better score actually.

GSMArena's review is unprofessional at best. Seriously, it's awfully bad.
The iPhone 4's camera is the best camera on a mobile phone at this time, period; but it does have it's issues.
White balance is auto only and not very good; and many indoor shots, depending on lighting, come far too yellowish.
Compared to the SGS, it has a wider focal range. This is well and good for "panoramic" shots, but it has a smaller macro range (meaning you have to stand further back from small objects to focus on them). This is not really an issue, but mostly a design decision.
As the GSM Arena review states, the metering is fixed in "matrix" mode, which means that unless you manually tap to correctly expose the area you want, it won't always be accurate by default and will be very sensible to change depending on what enters the frame.
Video on the iPhone is leaps and bounds better than video on the SGS, which is soft and lacks bitrate. It also has tap to focus on video which the SGS lacks (why, samsung?). Not to say the SGS's video is crap, but it could be a lot better.
On the other hand, the SGS has a lot of different options for the camera, which makes up for the slightly worse image quality (mostly due to crappier sensor and aggressive software noise reduction). So in the end, you have to decide whether you want a better sensor or more settings to tweak
I have no idea how GSM Arena came to the conclusion that the SGS camera was better. I'ts mind boggling.
As for the flash, to me it's only useful as a flashlight.
I'm happy to see that i'm not just screwing something up on my phone. I've been in a huge switch and swap routine these past few weeks going from iphone to captivate and back. While i wish there was someway to improve the camera quality on the captivate i think i've come to live with it. At least the videos are comparable.
Sorry, iPhone 4 does not have the best camera. Check Nokia and even Xperia X10.

nokias camera are soooo far ahead of the ip4 camera..
I find it amazing that cellphones these days pack so many features into a small package. 5MP Camera, HD Video recording, beautiful and large LCD screens? Who still remembers beepers/pagers? hahahaha
Anyways I'm sure the iPhone 4 camera is a little better but the Captivates HD video comes out nicely. I think it has to do with Samsung having the ability to make Digital Cameras.

Lens, zooms and such for the Cam

Hey guys!
Just tought I would share my recent buys for my Galaxy S
one pal of mine showed me some lens he used for his Zi8, wide angles, fish eyes, polarised, etc. so I've decided to try em on the SGS.
For now, they are just ordered, but I'll keep you updated when i receive them:
Polarised:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/jelly-...cell-phones-and-compact-digital-cameras-22868
This is supposed to remove the reflections in windows or the likes
RESULTS:
Well, the crappy sticky ring is to crappy to be able to take descent pictures, since you have to turn the lens in order to work, the darn things is not realy holding... I'll try to find some magnetic washer and make it work like the other one...
Macro and Wide angle
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/univer...or-digital-cameras-and-cell-phones-14953#open full view
Macro is enabling the ability to make precises pictures of tiny objects
Wide Angle, well, pretty self explanatory!
This kit is working with a magnetised side. So it might be a chalenge to put the "round" metal washer on the SGS...
RESULTS:
the metal ring fits pretty good on the square hole, overlaping a little the casing:

And, the part I was most "concern", it still fits pretty good on my belt clip and on my car mount, so the ring in itself is thin enough!
Now, the results:
This is a standard picture:
This is a wide angle:
Pretty good! Wide enough eh!
One more test:
Normal:
And wide:
And, since the lens can be seperated to offer a Macro lens, well, here we go:
So, for a 10$ item, it's pretty much right on!
Optical Zoom:
http://www.dinodirect.com/mobile-phone-telescope-8x-zoom-camera-optical-currency-CAD.html
You can have specific molds for the SGS on this site but I got this one because of the ability to put the thing on a stand (screw on stand)
I'll take vids and pictures when I receive them!
Thanks, seems interesting. Will wait to see what your experience is
I can recommend fisheye lens FE-12
It has nice build quality, nice optics with low distortion - no blur, no aberation, just some vignette which is unavoidable when using fisheye.. but two steps of zoom fixes this.
The only disadvantage is that you have to stick a fugly metal ring over the camera hole, because the lens is magnetic.. its practical but ugly.
Enclosed some photos taken with SGS and this lens attached...
In the first you can actualy see my legs down in the picture, thats how wide angle this lens is
Thanks!
Could you post a picture of the metal ring, I'm kinda wondering if it fits on the glass or on the backplate.
Is it thick?
Thanks!
Good post! Kind of a toss up right now bringing my camera with me skiing or using just the SGS to do the multimedia thing. It's still the hassle of set up to take the shot for quick pics but zoom for video would be sweet.

ring is sticked partly on the glass and partly on the battery door, thickness is about 1mm.
...it doesn't look *that* bad as it does on the pictures
I know I'm off-topic and I know I'll get blamed for ... whatever ... but ... still:
Are you REALLY using your PHONE to take PHOTOS? The quality is so bad (on ANY phone camera) that in my opinion it can be used only for ocasional stuff, when you don't have anything else better.
Seriously ... are you really attaching those lenses to the phone in order to take "pictures" ?
Why don't you invest in something that was built for photography?
I use this one for photos ... and the camera + lenses were at about the same price as the new SGS was w/o contract:

Waiting for your review. Really looking forward to optical zoom in SGS
Well, till I have the SGS I decided to sell my DSLR. Not that I don't like it, but for mobility I can sacrifice a bit of a picture quality. Let's say I made 100 times more pictures with my SGS, that is always with me, then with my dslr.
Although if you particularly going on a trip where you don't mind that thing hanging on your neck, or you want lasting pictures then a dslr is a good choice. But I'd rather get a quality compact for that purpose.
If you like your vacation photos to be with washed out colors, w/o details and with that grainy look from the noise then yes, SGS camera is excellent.
I personally will carry around my DSLR until a compact with at least equivalent quality will be available.
I'm also taking pictures and filming some 720P moments with the SGS .. but still, this is always the plan B ... if I don't have anything better at my disposal. But from this point to buying macro and zoom lenses for my SGS is a long path ... too long for me.

Well, IMHO, picture quality is more than descent. Comparable to my old digital camera I bought some time ago. We are miles and miles away from the camera we used to have on cell phones back then (3-4 years ago). But then, I don't take em professionnaly so I don't need to buy a Rebel XT for 500$+ for taking "some pictures" and keeping the huge device with me...
But my main use for the phone is with 720p films. I've seen videos taken with Zi8 and the SGS can make video as good as the Zi8. So why not take it a step further and put some gizmos on it to make it better! And furthermore, try to get something as big as the Rebel into a show... you might not be so able to get it in!
Oh, and the gizmo's are all about 10$ ish range, you can even get jelly lens for under 5$... it shurely won't compare to high quality lens for the Rebel, but might get the job done for those of us who won't need this much.
There is a time in everybodys life when one realize that is too old to understand certain things .... well, apparently my time to be in that position is now ...
I give up in this subject ...

A lot of time you just don't have the time or room to take a dslr with you. When I first had my dslr, I though I'll bring it with me every day and make pictures. Well, no. I lost a lot of great shots, because I just didn't have the camera with me. The sgs is true not the best for taking pictures, but rather get washed out pictures, then nothing at all, right?
I say the best option is a decent compact. DSLR is professionals.

iPhone 5 vs GS3 camera comparison

Just put this together on the Macrumors board. Even they seem to agree
iPhone 5 pictures will always be first in the series:
In these pictures you can see the iPhone 5s purple flare at the top. No matter how I tried to take the picture, it was always there. In a room with a lot of lights, its just going to happen sadly. The GS3 performed better here and more accurately.

Next up - Tennis ball. The tennis ball is not new, however, judging by the iPhone 5 picture, Apple wants to make old objects new again. Also, the counter top I am taking these on has a purpleish tint to it, so keep that in mind:
Anyone up for some coffee? The letters on dunkin should be a darker shade or orange to your eyes.. lets see how they did:
Next up - same ball, with flash:
Last but not least - a set of 2 outdoor pictures
So what do you think?? Which one is better to you?
Also a side note on the outdoors pictures - Both sets were taken at the same distance. The GS3 appears to get more in the picture than the iPhone... maybe its my eyes playing tricks on me - neither phone's zoom settings were touched.

Maybe the iphone is set to like 28mm while the S3 at 24mm (when compared on 35mm?)
I don't get how you guys are getting decent shots with the GS3. My pictures are just awful and almost always blurry in identical situations that my Rezound and iPhone are able to take excellent photos. I really hate the camera on this phone.
Maybe you dont have a steady hand? Turn anti-shake on?

Make sure the camera lens cover isn't smudged. If mine is, pictures look terrible, but if I wipe it off with my shirt and then take picture, it looks so much better.
Maybe. But it doesn't happen with any other camera, if that's the problem my hands would be shaky no matter what.
Quick and dirty comparison I did just now.
GS3:
Rezound:
iPhone 4
I love the pics on mine..Here is a sample of my lake house view from the back deck:
As you see it takes great pics..
My S3 takes both good and bad pictures. If I am holding it in just my hands, it usually takes not so good pictures. But when I us4 something solid to prop it against, it takes great pictures. But, that is the least of my gripes with this thing.
I just flashed the latest ROM five minuets ago and am finally getting thirty hours of battery time! This is sick!!
I take some okay pics

Nice picture and interesting landscaping - curious about the choice of what appears to be a birdbath in the center: that green expanse to the lake might appear even more like a welcoming path or inviting runway there without the visual breakup, I figure.

Honestly I think the iPhone 5 takes better pictures.
I have 2 lines on my plan...mine with my GS3 and the other person on my plan has an iPhone 5. I did my own comparison tests and found the iPhone 5 camera to be better every time. I love my GS3 and the camera is alright but... nothing beats my DSLR.
The S3 also seems to be really sensitive with shaky hands compared to my old Apple. This can easily cause blurrier pictures. Also, another thing is phone covers can really alter the flash...... I had to learn this this the hard way.
Good stuff here... Honestly to me both seem to be amazing cameras but it's nice to see there are significant differences. Maybe I'm bias

One thing I noticed with the iPhone is it gets surrounding detail a bit better, but its not as focused. On the iPhone I can focus on someone 15 feet away, but still read a paper that is in the photo just under the camera. On the GS3 it appears to overexpose it, and makes it illegible. Ill do a bit more testing, but it might only be an issue with white paper
I'm impressed with the macro on the S3

I think the iphone is always easier to take good pics with (for a phone anyway) for some reason.
You can hand an iphone to anybody, leave everything in the auto mode & most of their pics will be fine.
As far as the DSLR comment, I agree 100%, I am a pro photographer & I use a *Canon EOS 1D Mark 2/with all L lens* all day at work.
yeah my GS3 doesn't take pics nearly as well as my rezound......but thank god it's better than that terrible, awful nexus camera. *shudders*
Mine does good panos

Maybe. But it doesn't happen with any other camera, if that's the problem my hands would be shaky no matter what.
Quick and dirty comparison I did just now.

Your focus is on your keys that's why only your keys look clear and everything else is blurry. Try focusing it something else, like the middle of the screen. Auto focus does that to me sometimes. Nothing a good finger poke on the screen doesn't fix.

Photo quality

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Google Pixel XL come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).

I'm personally really liking the camera. Camera is always my top priority and I've gone through five phones in the past year trying to find the complete package. I'm coming directly from a S7. While I wish the main camera has a few more tricks up its sleeve it is quick and I love how it animates and names collages etc from the app instead of having to upload the photos to google photos and do the processing there.
I'll be putting up random shots over the next few days in my Google Photos folder: https://goo.gl/photos/vYAoiyxMw5VGSGPHA I tried attaching many of the shots but XDA yells at me for going over the size limit!

Cute kid!
Those low light shots are a bit worrisome...
I agree...the low light shots aren't too great ....the dog pix have good detail in them. Does the camera shoot 1080p video at 60fps?

I'm going to be crying on the inside until my phone gets here in a month.
Well, I may continue to cry cuz the low-light capabilities won't miraculously get better.
I've been using this for a couple days and my thought are the LOW light shots aren't bad. It's the NO lights shots that it gets really grainy. And I'm ok with that. There aren't many times I'm taking pictures in almost absolutely no light. For LOW light like at a restaurant, bar, concert, on a street at night, etc. They are great

low light
An f/2.0 aperture is not really a low light sensor. And considering how tiny is the sensor, the Pixel XL does a great job.
A low light aperture is under 2, and each stop, or portion of stop like f/1.8, makes a huge difference.
My intention is not be be a pedant. I think many hope f/2.0 means far, far better low light capability than it actually imparts.
It needs some light.

I personally am sold on the camera!! Took it on a Sunday afternoon hike this wknd and tried it out... https://goo.gl/photos/XF32nTcwKbDXW37H9 Really happy with it! Note that it was VERY VERY bright and sunny.
I just notice the stupid Halo effect somebody was complaining about on one of my pictures.
Does anyone else have a problem withe front camera focusing properly? It seems to be unable to focus on things in the foreground for some reason and only focuses on the background, which makes everything in the front (like people's faces) seem soft and out of focus. Tested out some self portraits and at first, I thought maybe I was too close but no matter how far I stretched out my hand to take a pic, the background always seems to stay in focus.
Something might definitely be wrong with my front camera. I see pics of other people's front camera pics and they are very crispy, even in low light. Not only that, but the front camera pics I take seem to be shaky and blurry about half the time, like there is absolutely no image stabilization being used. I'm forced to do burst shots to compensate for this. Maybe my hands are too shaky? I never had a problem with this coming from an S6 though.
very good comparison videos vs popular phones

it's very interesting that how hdr+ improves photo quality
look at the colors and details of 10 pounds money
pixel only lacks a good ois
ois + hdr+ = incredible
I like the image quality under certain conditions, but I'm getting super crazy haloing when there is even the least bit of light behind or off to the side of my photo target. It makes for some really crappy looking pictures when there is a huge opaque ring in my picture. Kinda disappointing.
I hear that this is supposed to be remedied with a software update. I hope this is true and I sure am looking forward to it.
Could someone test if it´s possible to shoot a clear picture of the moon with this device? Since there are no manual controls I would be interested in that. Shutterspeed in FV5 isn´t working, it doesn´t take a shot. And in my area there´s currently no moon to test it... Thanks!
I have made 9 galleries of photos taken with the Pixel XL in varying conditions (dawn to dusk) and the Honor 8.
https://jmcomms.com/2016/10/28/pixe...-grab-a-cup-of-coffee-its-gonna-take-a-while/
In video form if you prefer (21 minutes!);
I should probably create a curated list of Pixel XL photos for a Google Photos gallery soon, as I realise not everyone will want to look through that many photos!
I took a few quick point and shoot pictures with the White Pixel XL 32gb at the Best Buy Verizon display. Albeit very nice pictures, I was left a bit unimpressed, comparing to my LG v10 (didn't think of taking the same shots at the time to compare)

what i found interesting is the rear camera takes pics @ 4:3 12 megapixels yet 16:9 are only at 8 megapixels ,where as my S7 Edge takes 16:9 12megapixels.....is there a setting im not using???

So far so good. Pictures do look pretty near-term however they're not perfect by a long shot.
Admittedly I've been spoilt as I was using a pixel 2 before this, and low light images were a lot sharper, but not as well lot as the s9.
I think there can be a lot of improvement between the 1.5/2.4 aperture settings in regards to software tweaks.
Another thing I'd like to see is a much better portrait mode. Images look so soft and lack finer details. Compared to my pixel 2... well there really isn't a comparison at this point.
One thing I've noticed samsung cameras always do, is brighten up the face of the person in the photo. If you've got brown skin colour it tends to make them look too pale. I've seen reviewers say it can make the person almost look a bit ill! This happened on my note 8 also, and knowing what I know about South East Asian culture, it wouldn't surprise me if this was as intended as South East Asians do like to look paler, using cosmetics, filters or skin bleaching. So is the pale face as intended?
Anyhow, I'd say the camera has huge potential. Samsung just needs to do a lot of tweaking as irrefutable all the right hardware is there.

Yes, photo quality is good.
If I should be honnest, I expected a little bit better camera quality when I saw DX score and more....But now when I compare photos from S9+ to my note8, the colors looks a lot more faded, the most noticeable is in interior...Hmm I hope that update will fix it (Exynos version). What do you think?
I made compare video too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BADd5DvVoKM

There is no doubt on it overcomes iPhone. Great quality. Anyone should get it right now
I have shaky hands, and on Auto it's almost like there's no OIS. I get a lot of motion blur on things or blur in general. Sports mode fixes it, but it's really disappointing.

What kind of lighting were you shooting in?
Not impressed with the auto 2.4 to 1.5 aperture here in the UK at least, it doesn’t seem to understand what low light is
This photo is on 'auto'
And below where I had it manually set to 1.5

The auto picture has a better dynamic range. Look at the window and you can see pictures outside but their airplane is a little dark
The whole picture looks dark
I did a S8+ (which I own) vs S9+ Camera quick comparison at my local shop... took some pictures in pro mode, same settings, same scene, both F1.5 and F2.4 for S9 (and of course fixed F1.7 for S8)...
S8 pictures are sharper (both RAW and JPEG) or better overall, with about the same noise... I am very disappointed.
You can download all the JPEG and RAW files: (RAW+JPEG files included): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dgyBwiPbO8tHVqsqZpiJ6aoZn5a-p4m-/view?usp=sharing
Any thoughts?

This is awful. I mean, just ****ing awful. Coming from the V30 using the hacked GCam, this is major step down. Out of six shots I got one usable one.
If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong here with Auto Mode, I'm all ears because I'm tempted to take this thing back.

So what? It's supposed to be. Your second picture is blowing out highlights and destroying tons of detail. The first picture might seem dimmer (especially compared to the second one), but it's preserving the details in all the areas of the photo. The 1.5 aperture is meant to cut down on noise and detail loss in very dark scenes, not create super bright images from moderately dim environments. It looks like the camera did exactly what it's supposed to do.
