[Q] HTC sensation 4G - HTC Sensation

I am so sorry if my question is dumb but I installed Revolution HD on my phone HTC sensation 4G today and since then my phone says "3G" only, I do not know what happened with the 4G network..
The ROM I installed (Revolution HD) modified the way I get the signal? or that's nothing even related to it?
What is the best ROM for this phone so far?
Thank you and again I am sorry if my question is dumb..

My friend, the 3G icon is not linked with the Radio, its just an icon from the Euro Roms.
you are not loosing bars, signal, etc its just an icon.

I could've swore I used that Rom last week with the 4G icon... On TMOUS that is.

I wish there would be a sticky about this for T-Mobile USA users.
Actually no. If they were too stupid to not search in the first place, a sticky wouldn't be any more useful.
TL;DR
Lazy, ignorant people will remain so.

that happen to me with insertCoin, the best rom by the way... and the dev make a zip to change the 3g icon to 4g icon back..

any prob w/ 3g or EDGE with HTC ROM

I'm very close to getting the guts to change from the att "dark side" and get to this gorgious HTC ROM I hear so much about but a few last questions...
anyone have any problems with phone, 3g, or edge connectivity using HTC ROM?
does the HTC ROM show the "E" or "3G" at the top of the screen like my currently does to tell me which I'm on and what my signal strength is?
anything else I should know about before doing the switch in functionality or connectivity that I would lose with the HTC ROM?
Thanks
I can't tell you about E because when I reset, I go immediately from a momentary G to 3G.
I get H whenever I am in an active data transfer.
The indicator is the same as the Tilt ROM... Although I never saw a H on the Tilt...
You won't loose anything.

There are no problems, however as I've posted in a couple of other threads, there really isn't much to gain by moving to the HTC ROM except memory (which there is no shortage of in the ATT ROM) and the WorldCard Mobile business card OCR scanning application. Anything else you gain can also be enabled in the ATT ROM and you don't potentially void your warranty by performing a CID unlock.
Anyone successfully TETHER to laptop using the HTC ROM? Is there a icon in CONNECTION SETTINGS for MODEM?
That is the last thing I can think of that I would be pissed to lose if I moved from ATT to HTC ROM.
Thanks guys

After rooting i get no H+

after i rooted i never get H+ anymore in my house. i used to be able to but now i dont.
hm?
did you root and load a rom? if so you probably now have HSDPA+HSUPA instead of ATT's locked down hspa+
Do a speed test if are getting over 3 MB/s download and more than 350 kb/s upload then the icon doesn't matter and you are doing fine.
Many have already mentioned you will likely not see the speed til the HSPA+ is fully turned on around March

yeah i rooted and loaded the rom in the development section. id also do a speed test but i have like 2 bars now so i know its gonna suck haha.
Slightly off topic, I have always gotten an H+ at 3-4 bars but my speedtests (24 hours at couple hour increments) I've never gotten above 1.8Mb (1.0 min). In the store the data was flying, and across the street but didn't do a speedtest. Need to go back and try. Anyways I do wonder if H+ is going to be gimmiky until it's much broader release.
It's going to display the h+ anytime you're not connected to edge with the stock phone. When backhaul work is done you should see a difference.

that isnt what his issue is. read the rom that is posted thread... he isnt going to see the H+ symbol from what I have seen in from that thread...
Do you think its the rom or the radio?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
It is the rom. I think the rom that attn1 posted just doesnt include the H+ icon.
A store rep told me that to see the speed increase I'll need a 4G sim card. Right now I'm getting around 2,997 kbps down & 698 kbps up. He said that Houston is a test market and that 4G went live yesterday. Only problem is that they won't be getting any 4G sim cards till next week.
Does this even sound legit?

LULZ.
you didnt lose your HSDPA 'capabilities'
you lost your precious H+ icon, which is nothing more than an AT&T cover up to try and trick you into thinking their network is better than others.....its an icon. it means nothing
in the menu, you are only supposed to get a GSM/WCDMA option because thats what the phone runs on.
unless you flashed a different RADIO, one that doesnt like your area, then there is nothing wrong and your HSDPA 'capabilities' are still there. go do a speed test, for petes sake....
search, hell, just READ the titles of a few threads and you will get your answer. it HAS been answered a couple hundred times here and there....

This Rom has the Ril in it for the Desire HD radio 26.13.04.19. I use this as my daily Rom with this radio and my phone runs better than stock. H+ was added for aesthetic reasons only.
Read the radio sticky about matching ril/radio combinations.

Sensation with Android revolution no 4g?

Hey everyone, I have a Tmo Sensation 4g. I took all the proper steps to root the phone and wiped my stock rom off before flashing the Android Revolution 3.3 HD rom as well as changed to the radio that he recommended. However, it seems that my 4g is not available. Prior to flashing I had 4g nearly everywhere and now I only have 3g. Anyone have the same problem? Is there a fix?

Should post in Q&A but check the area that talks about RIL's and install the one that is ends in 169. I don't have any problems with my TMUSA sensation with this rom and also check if you get the H that is also a symbol for 4G
Thank you for the assistance, but where do I find this section about RIL's? I cant seem to see that term.

Top few posts on this page
hehe.. This is because T-Mobile lies and puts a 4G icon when you have 3G.
Don't be dumb, this is not development. Your phone is 4G, 4G is 3g but it's just tmobile advertising there 4th generation connection. You get faster download speeds on 4G but on euro build roms they only have 3g. You should get a H logo when you are using data such as downloading, browsing the Internet ect. Which H stands for hsap + which is 4G. Sorry to be so mean it's just a very old topic just should of been posted in q and a not here.

Seriously, the 4g icon and the H icon, are just that.. Icons used to represent your data speed. It is not your actual data speed. If I wanted to I can create a mod that will replace the icon to Edge to represent 4G speeds, but it won't mean I'll be on edge.

T-mobile HTC sensation signal problems

I need help, I'm already desperate...
Got a T-mobile HTC sensation, it was already unlocked for other carriers but no S-off or unlocked bootloader.
I got an S-off, unlocked the bootloader, changed CID, flashed Android Revolution HD 6.7.2, but I have HORRIBLE signal reception. So I found that update file in the header which said "- HTC Sensation 4G (U.S. T-Mobile PG5810000 | T-MOB010) users can flash this for better signal and data speeds!" I installed it... NO IMPROVEMENT, my last hope is flash a different radio. Anybody knows what's the problem and how to fix it?
configs right now
different carrier sim (not t-mobile)
S-off, unlocked loader
HBOOT: 1.27.11111
Radio: Radio_11.76A.3504.00P_11.24A.3504.31_M
cid changed to 1111111
firmware: 3.33
ROM right now: is the XE version with beats (tried 1.2.2 too, no change)
Kernel: faux
EDIT: just found out that my wifi is not working either, tried the boot.img fix, didn't help. I get Wifi for a brief second and if I managed to connect it will stay for a while, but if I don't no wifi after that.

Have you tried a different kernel? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269247 (maybe its for AOSP only though)

Different (userfriendly) radios? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
Remember to make a backup before install.
yes I have tried 2-3 kernels, including Bricked.
and I have changed 7-8 different radios/firmwares
P.S. fixed wifi with WiFix, at least this 2 issues are not connected
Greetings. I'm taking a stab at asking my question here because it seems sort of related.
I'm a T-mobile USA customer with a brand new SIM card in my Sensation 4g that I bought a few months ago.
My bootloader is unlocked, I'm S-off, I've flashed the custom firmware (version: 3.32.401.3) that was recommended for those flashing the Cyanogenmod 9 ROM. I'm currently using the most recent STABLE Cyanogenmod 9 ROM (not 9.1, but the STABLE 9 ROM). I'm using the stock Cyanogenmod 9 kernel (the one that came with the ROM: 3.0.26-g7290c7f). I never bothered to flash a new radio, not sure if that's a mistake or not.
My reception is good but it seems rather obvious that my phone is completely unable to hook up to or unaware of the 4g network. When downloading, the icon in the taskbar always shows either "3g" or "H" and when I check the "Status" in "About Phone" my "Mobile Network Type" is always listed as UMTS:3 or HSDPA:9.
Can anyone make any suggestions for how I might begin the trouble shooting process to remedy this issue. Thank you in advance for any sage like advice you might provide, I'm pretty lost here.

H is good. It means you are on an HSDPA network. That's 4G for the purposes of this conversation (though what really constitutes 4G is a little more involved)
HSDPA:9 might just be the best speeds that are available in your area. For instance 8 is the best I can get at my house. No amount of better phones will fix that. It's just what's available from the tower.

That's helpful thank you. One last question in the interest of clarification. Should I find myself in an HSPA+ reception area, should I expect the information over the reception bars to change from 3g to 4g and would "Mobile Network Type" then reflect HSPA+ as opposed to HSDPA 9?
Just curious so I might know what to look for when crossing into better network areas.
Thanks again for the tip.
The H means 4g technically. You can update your radio and ril very easily. Will find links and edit post

Thanks for the link. I guess what I was wondering is whether or not I actually need to update my radio, I'd feel a lot more confident in my reception if I ever saw HSPA+ listed in my phone's "Mobile Network Type", but I never do. I had previously thought that HSDPA was 3G, but maybe I'm missing something.
Thanks for the link, flashing a new radio is something I had been giving consideration, I'm just wondering how user friendly the process is. Like picking a needle out of a haystack, or is there someway to narrow down what radio/ril combo is best for one's phone/network.
I'll read through the thread for the link you posted and update my progress here later. Thanks for the info.

your data connection will still say 3G, unless you start to use the data then it will automatically switch to 4G/H (saves battery this way)
HTC made a fault with the Sensation with building the antennas into the back case (hand over the back of the phone = small loss of reception)
Theres a program called getRIL in the play store. You can update your radio and ril as long as your root. Which i assume u are. I do it thep old fasion way though.

[Q] Sensation 4G with rom on a 3G Data Connection? Help!

This is probably the most noob-sih question asked on these forums, i don't know if it is or not though, anyways,
I have a HTC Sensation 4G and when i flash any Rom on it and gt it all set up it displays it it connected to '3G' or 'H'
Is there a way to restore 4G or is it really on 4G but the rom displays it as 3G/H?

Technicly nothing is 'really' 4G yet. It's just a marketing gimmick.
Depending on what rom/theme you are using you can get a mod to make the H turn into 4G. Looking in the Themes and Apps section adn search for '4g icon' or something similar. It will give you whta you want. I don't think the mod works with all roms though so read the thread you find it in carefully.
H is the closest we get to 4g.but if the icon is bothering you perhaps you can change it in your rom settings depending on the rom you're running. However H is hsdpa which is the closest to 4g that your going to get! Even the 4g icon is not really 4g. It's usually hsdpa. It's in reality 3.5g. But most people know H icon is as close to 4g as it gets so h icon is good. But if rom allowed it you can change to 4g icon.

Hi all. I live in the Caribbean and got the HTC sensation 4g. I upgraded my mobile package from edge to 4g however I still see 2g. I tried my sim card in another phone and got H+ which I should be seeing on my phone. The phone is running 4.0 is with sense 3.6. The mobile settings is set to gsm/wcdma auto. Any ideas??
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda app-developers app
You can try to change your data settings to wdcma only. If the signal is available in your area this should give you the 4 G icon. It's worth a try. Here's how it's done. Press *#*#4636#*#* then when the menu comes up press phone information, then another screen will come up, press on your
signal, a sub menu will come up, then press wdcma only, then scroll down and press refresh. This should give you the 4G, or H. Which is also 4G. However this must be done every time you reboot device so remember the code. Also, this will only work if 4G is available in your area. I use this method because I keep going to Edge, even through 4G, is available in my area. It works like a charm for me. Now I received my 4G instead if slow edge! Hope this helps! Let me know. Best wishes.
