Hi Everyone,
I, like many of you, spend way to much time setting phones up over and over again. Since a big part of this is registry edits, I have built a web site that allows you to check off the registry options you want, which it then uses to create a downloadable CAB file to install that will contain all of those registry tweaks. This makes things completely reversible by uninstalling the CAB file.
Notes:
This is Beta. While I have used it, and it's a very basic process, it isn't commercial software by any means.
If you would like to add a new feature, post in this thread.
You may install more than one cab file created with this tool. Just use different names at the bottom of the form.
Without further delay, here's the site:
<edit> The tool has now moved to nowsci.com. If you have any issues, please let me know. </edit>
http://nowsci.com/registry-changer/
Thanks,
Ben
* hold for updates *
Update 1: HTML now renders mobile friendly, so you can use this straight from your device.
Update 2: Edit feature added.
Update 3: Can now manually specify string or integer.
Update 4 [11/17/2008]: Can now specify the app name for install, allowing the user to have more than one Registry Changer cab installed at any point in time.
Update 5 [03/27/2009]: Fixed some character flaws for input. Preparations for move to a new host.
Update 6 [04/22/2009]: Added a filter option.
The site now has the ability for the end user to add registry entries to the database.
Thank you very much. I believe the "Camera Enhancements" entry is mis-titled. Shouldn't it be Rotate Picture 90 degrees, not 180 degress?
Doh! I will fix that.
Also, just added all the registry entries from the Diamond Tweaks post.
What about the Bluetooth DUN profile adding to the list? - Mike
What's the registry entries for that? Happy to add them, or you can add them yourself now through the site.
What happens if you tweak a registry entry that does not exist on your specific device or rom?
Good question. For the most part, I would guess nothing. If there is nothing on your system looking for the registry entry, then it won't effect anything. That being said, that doesn't mean WM doesn't look for registry entries that aren't there. For instance, the following tweak:
Enable Vision Duration/Disconnect Popup
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2=16
Flags2 doesn't exist by default on most any WM6 phone. Adding it in, enables the disconnect.
Who added the "Mighty" tweaks? Is that a phone? Many of those seem like they should go in Misc. I might clean that up if those aren't specific to a phone.
Would it be possible to have a wiki of descriptions for each of these options? I know I could Google them one by one but I'm sure users would appreciate a single source.
Hmm, not a bad idea. I wonder if there was a spot on the xda wiki I could use for it since I don't have my own. I may end up integrating a detailed description field for each item with a question mark next to it. Unfortunatly I won't be able to define them all since people have added one's I've never used.
OK I have a request. I don't' so much mind tweaking the settings when I flash. However what does drive me nuts and keeps me from flashing is knowing I will have to reconfigure all my email accounts. I just use the default mail program, but what a pain going through and adding my 7 yes Seven email accounts every time I flash my phone. Is there a way to make a cab that would auto input all my account settings? The reason for so many accounts, is I have personal accounts, business accounts, email list accounts, car club accounts, and forum subscription accounts.
It would be awesome to be able to go to a site, or run an app where I could plunk in all my account settings, then create a cab store it to my SD card and whenever I flash, just run the cab and POOF all my accounts are setup.
Unfortunately, probably wouldn't be easy to make a cab. However, programs like Sprite Backup will do this for you. You can selectively restore your mail using SB, however I generally back up my phone once I get things the way I like it, then if anything goes sour, I hard reset, then restore.
any1 made an ultimate tweak.cab? maybe make your diamond seem as fast as a custom rom?????????????
then any hardreset.......

+1 on descriptions of each cab
Wow very nice! Thanks!
I suggest a field to make a *.cab regarding to any registry path/setting the user wishes (if the user is more technical).
without having to actually add to the public entry list.
This will allow the ability to:
1. not have to wait for the admin to add the specific entry
2. allows the author of the new *.cab to distribute their new edit on the fly.
3. give the admin to log & analyze the entries in the custom field to and determine more of the common *custom* entries the ppl may want. Thus not having to depend on explicit user input and emails all the time.
First - thanks for putting this together!
Quick question - I had it "enable" GPS coded photos...but I don't think it did? Shouldn't I have an option somewhere in my camera menu to activate this once I've installed the .cab? Additionally, I don't believe "enable landscape pictures" and "sport mode" worked - how do I know?
Many thanks!
Oh, and I forgot to mention (not that it matters???) that I'm on an HTC Touch Pro with Sprint - stock ROM. I'm new to all this, so I apologize if this is basic stuff.
And no, this is not another one of those.. " I locked myself out threads".
I used to have a Treo 700wx which worked wonderfully until I switched to ATT and bought a HTC tilt. The Tilt being way faster and everything I could ask in a phone there is 1 small problem..
With the Treo, when I went to "lock" I could enter any sequence of numbers, either being 1111 or 1234, or anything simple. With the Tilt, its not so simple.
When I try to enter a simple password, it says it must be more complex.. The exact error message is "Password Error. Please enter another password. The password must be at least 4 characters and not contain a simple sequence". That's nice and all HTC, but considering my phone is in MY pocket 90% of the day, I don't necessarily need a complex password.
Ive tried looking on xda, all the possible software sites that Google has thrown at me, and I couldn't find a single post or thread about this.
I do know there are programs out there like the iphone slider, which is amusing. and a couple of other ones with patters and whatnot.
So my question is Does anyone know of a way to make it so I could have a simple pin with the default lock program? And if not, does anyone know of a similar program that does the same thing?
The reason I ask is myself a few other windows 6.1 users have also asked the same question. If anyone knows, please share so this community will know!
Thanks
- Felman

I'd suggest editing the registry, and changing the policies.
However, if you're synching with Office/Outlook Exchange servers and the server is actively pushing security restrictions to your phone periodically, you might have a hard time getting rid of said restriction permanently.
Thank you Bouvrie for your post, and I did find some useful information, but nothing to the lines of actually modding the registry to allow me to have custom passwords that are not complex.
Any more ideas?
So this part ain't of any help to you ?
Determining Password Complexity
Registry Key: HKLM\Comm\Security\Policy\LASSD\LAP\
lap_pw\PasswordComplexity
Value: 0 = Require Alphanumeric. 1 = Require numeric (PIN). 2 = No restriction.

You didn't say if it was to do with enforced security settings?
If so, this little app will help

I did think this part would work, but after looking into the registry, I found it was already set at 2. Because I do not have a password set.

I just tried this app, and it did not work the way we thought. Thanks for the try!
anyone have any ideas.. I can't seem to find any regedit keys that deal with this issue.
It's impossible BOB.
I have a Touch Pro, and love it, but I only get 12 text messages per screen before I have to tap the "Older" link to go back another 12.
It makes it really difficult to page backwards and look for a particular message.
Is this controlled through the registry? I'd like to make it display more than 12 at a time, if possible.
Thanks in advance!
Since posting this, I've gone through the Arcsoft keys in the registry and cannot find the value for this.
Either this is not controlled in the registry, or it's hardcoded somehow.
Anyone know?
I know that I'm reviving an old thread but I am interested in this concept as well. Its a pretty big pain in the ass to have to go back page by page to get to older messages, so I would like to either change it to show the entire thread which seems like it would be a major memory hog, or to significantly increase the number of texts per page.
Any help on this front would be fantastic, thanks.
Bump? Anyone?
Using Windows Mobile 6.1 build 20771, was wondering if anyone knew how to control the number of suggestions autocomplete gives in the "To:" field when typing. I'm always getting like 8 suggestions. My build doesn't have the following key and adding it doesn't seem to have any effect.
[HKLM\System\Inbox\RecipientAutoComplete]
"Maxsuggestions"=8
I added it manually, setting MaxSuggestion to equal to 4, and it is a DWORD value, and still has no effect.
Also, I've already disabled T9.
I have a HTC Trophy, coming from a HTC Touch Pro 2. The speaker phone was awsome on the TP2 and on the trophy, if there is small noises in the room (even a low computer fan) with the phone on mute, you can bearly hear the people on the phone. It's so low that with any low background noise, it's hard to hear.
Is it possable to increase the volume on the speaker phone on WP7 higher than 10 (maybe up to 15 or so) ???
Thanks !
TP2 has the best spekaer phone ever! It is highly unlikely that Trophy (or any other, I have HTC 7 Pro and spekaer phone is not as good as TP2) can reach it, maby by changing rege, but it can only harm the speaker since it will be overloaded.
I, too, miss TP2 speaker phone and talking in the car without jelling...

There is a registry edit to increase the # of increments, but it doesn't increase volue at all. It just adds more "steps". Haven't found anyway to increase the volume. It seems to be a driver issue on all HTC devices. HTC needs to get their act together & issue a patch to fix this. It's almost impossible to hear music/videos/movies. Any background noise & you can't hear ****.
I think I just fixed this. I saw a registry edit for WM 6 & it the directory still exists.
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\
In each of it's sub directories, change the InitVol value to 100. I notice some were 100 already while others were 85 or even 65. I think this means 100% volume/85% volume/65% volume. Change them all to one value & you'll equalize the volume across the board.

Doesn't this just, like you said, increse the step but, not give a higher volume ?
SHould I be opening a ticket with HTC about this ?

No, this is different. I just found it. The registry value I was talking about before is;
HKCU\ControlPanel\Volume\
MaxInCallUIVolume & MaxSystemUIVolume
I just did this new edit I just found (this one in the above post) & now I can hear youtube videos over my pc with tv playing on it lol.
thanks, I just gota figure out how to edit the registry with mango and I'll give it a shot.

LG quantum here:
this is what it reads (dword)
HKCU\ControlPanel\Volume\
MaxInCallUIVolume = 10
MaxSystemUIVolume = 30
you set yours to 100?
also, I am not sure from your two posts, which one was necessary to get your volume up to max - entries from both posts?
with MFG I am not able to see the subcategories you mention in the post before under "SoundCategories". So I would have to query "blind" keys. too many to type them here?
thanks

No, that is the "steps". It just adjust how many increments you have. It's the other post.
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\
In each of it's sub directories,
InitVol = 100
You can adjust the volume done for those who complain about the volume being too loud by entering a lower value.

thanks, problem with the MFG registry editor is that it does not show the sub directories. One would have to enter them before they can be edited, therefore one would need to already know the names of the sub categories.
thanks again

I have no clue what DTMF is. I believe the value stands for % of max volume. I set them all to 100. Now I may just be hearing things, but it sure sounds louder to me. I had the TV playing on my PC & the YouTube video on my HD7 droned out the TV. (heard YouTube Video clearly, but couldn't here TV). Now keep in mine I have 200 Watt RMS Logitech 2.1 Speakers w/a Sub Woofer on my PC & they were at 33% volume.
as most are on mango now...
so the subcategories are named...can you name the keys to edit?
even better would be a *.reg-file we can provxml

DTMF (dual tone multi frequency) is the signal to the phone company that you generate when you press an ordinary telephone's touch keys. In the United States and perhaps elsewhere, it's known as "Touchtone" phone (formerly a registered trademark of AT&T). DTMF has generally replaced loop disconnect ("pulse") dialling. With DTMF, each key you press on your phone generates two tones of specific frequencies. So that a voice can't imitate the tones, one tone is generated from a high-frequency group of tones and the other from a low frequency group.

Hi,
You did not understand. After update to Mango there is no possibility to edit registry yet. So we need a full code to do it by provxmal. If you have access you can do it for us.

I do understand. if you want to inject this into the registry via provxmal then you need to convert this into code for the registry, no?
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\SoundCategories\Alarm\]
"InitVol"=dword:00000064
or
"InitVol"=hex(b):64,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
(100 dec = 64 hex). I am sure the programmers here know exactly what to do with it.
and the same for
DTMF\; InCall\; InCall2\; Notification\; Reminder\; Ring\; RingPreview\; System\; SystemNotification\; SystemVibrate\
but maybe I am missing something....

EDIT: Speaking of which, I found another registry that deals with how audio is handled. Attached is the provxml for it. This CustClear.provxml has all the volume registry edits I have done. It give you 50 steps for volume in call & default system.
