I did the upgrade over WiFi, flew to a roaming country, and now have the following persistent roaming alert that I did not have during previous trips to that country.
"You have lost data connectivity because you left your home network with data roaming turned off."
I've unchecked everything on the roaming screen, so I'm not sure what else I can do to get rid of this crap.
Nobody else seeing this? WTF
it happens all the time to me too. I live in an area with varying signal power, so sometimes phone goes in roaming with another provider. I GET IT that I'm in roaming, but I have everything disabled in the roaming menu, and the constant icon is driving me insane!
The weird thing is that this didn't start happening to me until the OTA. Between this and the screen timeout on camera/camcorder, this upgrade is seeming a lot like a downgrade.

EDIT: Seems when the data services setting is on the phone behaves differently. - Thanks for the input.
Hello all, I am new to this group. Ive learned a lot, and I'm able to get around pretty good as a result of what I've learned here so thanks to you all.
I use SRINT - I have an HTC touch pro2. I've never had a good signal in my home as it's in one of those area's where there is no coverage accoridng to their map. However, I usually have a good enough signal to do most everthing I need to do but still low end..
Yesteray I noticed my 'EV" icon for the first time. Then it went into roaming mode w/ 1xrtt. Never saw this icon either. Today, same thing - except I'm not going into roam mode to often. I don't see any new sattelites up in my area. I have no "signal" icon so there aren't any bars. I'm recieving calls and the reception is incredibly good. However since all I have is the EV, I can't tell what my signal strength is. Can anyone explain this behavior?. I thought I might of hit some buttons accidently and changed some setting unkowingly. thanks
What does satellite have anything to do with cellular coverage. Why don't you have a signal icon? Did you install some weird taskbar? Sounds to me you re just on the edge of 3g so you see ev or 1x. Also 1x isn't roaming it just not 3g data speeds
I don't know. that's why I was asking. I haven't installed anything but Bing and Google maps. When I go into settings->turn on data services, the signal goes out and EV lights up with data transfer showing. Shut off data services, I get my icon back with one bar, EV icon on no data transfer showing. Have no clue what it's doing yet, exc;ept I see no difference in e,ail, internet , messaging, regardless if "data services" are on or off. If I go into "roam" i.e. the roam ICON lights up, then 1x icon is on instead of EV. NOW.. I turned data services off, I got my signal icon. I update the local weather, and the signal icon goes out EV lights up showing data exchange, I look at my seetings and data services is on. Probabaly turned on when I forced the weather to update.
This is so confusing but it sounds like everything is working fine to me. Screen captures of these changes would help because your descriptions are confusing to me.
here's the issue: when I'm not connected to home network, wifi won't transmit/receive data. I have /!\ sign in the taskbar with explanation "data disconnected because your phone is in roaming network". No matter what I do, data will not work over wifi. The same wifi AP works perfectly when in home network... anyone have this problem? any clue how to solve it?
Try enabling data roaming. Setting>Wireless Networks>Mobile Network Settings
Check "Data Roaming" Connect to data services when roaming
Having a similar issue. I'm about 300 miles from home (Chicago) in Door County WI. Weak Edge signal here. Data works over WiFi, but not over Edge. I continually get a notification saying "You have lost data connectivity because you left your home network with data roaming disabled". I now have it enabled, but the message sounds like I am SOL because I should have made the change before leaving.
To clarify, I enabled roaming 1-1/2 days ago, restarted several times and confirmed the roaming box is still enabled. But I continue to get the lost data notification.
Are you kidding me ATT? Is there no way to fix this without returning home?
I have recently switched from Straight Talk to an AT&T 10 GB Mobile Share Plan. Since then my mobile data will randomly be turned off when i'm connected to wifi. It wont turn back on when i disconnect, nor when my device receives (or attempts to receive) an MMS message. Is there some setting i may have accidentally accessed since the activation? I don't have any programs that are capable of changing my device status like that (nor is my phone rooted).
Dont get me wrong, i'm glad something is trying to help me conserve battery haha, but it does get annoying since i only notice it when i get a notification that my device is unable to send/receive a picture message, or that i have no data once i leave the wifi network.
Its just weird since it has only started happening since switching to AT&T Postpaid.

Which ROM are you running? That is strange. It could be something with the APN as well. Are you on LTE or stuck on 3g? Maybe your phone is stuck in one and tries to switch from LTE to H or vice versa? I know when my phone chooses H instead of LTE (I use Cricket, but same towers) it takes quite a few seconds to get a data connection to load, but LTE is pretty quick to load.
It doesn't actually save battery to have data off when using WiFi since that is already happening behind the scenes. Not sure why yours is toggling the setting on its own but perhaps a factory reset would fix it.

Everything is stock. I had a APN automatically assigned from AT&T that caused me to constantly switch from HSPA+ to LTE. I found a better one online and now get LTE most of the time. I never really gets "stuck".Its not that the data isn't loading, its that it is literally set to "mobile data off" on my device, and i have to manually turn it back on in the settings. I wasn't aware an APN setting could change other settings on a phone?

it could be an app doing it, and you not knowing that it can.
Does anyone else have this problem? My SGS5 is pure stock, unrooted. I just got it the other day and am still reading and learning about the root methods so I haven't gone that far yet but I noticed that whenever I am roaming...which is a lot at my house...I can't send or receive text messages. I have played with the roam settings a little but its made no difference.
Thanks for any help given.
Go to roam setting turn roam on and turn off roam protection I'd also turn off connection opt
Edit These options are in more settings under connection in settings
Thats how I have it set...yet it still won't text while in roam.
Ok well I found out why I'm roaming all the time. It seems a tower that I would connect to when I'm at home is down and will be down for at least a month. On the bright side though I figured out a fix for it in case anyone else has this problem...Its simple really. Set up WiFi calling and you can talk and text just find through your home WiFi. The phone behaves as if it had full tower. Hope it helps someone. =)
I have a network issue with my OnePlus 8T. Whenever I enter an area that doesn't have great signal, if my phone connects to 4G, I completely lose all signal and the phone will read "No Service" or "Emergency Calls Only". The best thing I can do is toggle Airplane mode or restart the phone to fix it. The issue does not occur if I set my phone to 2G/3G only. My phone will have signal absolutely everywhere, there isn't a spot that I know of that doesn't get reception. However, the moment I tap "Mobile Data", if the phone connects to 4G and the signal isn't 50% or better. My phone just loses all network on the spot and refuses to return unless I do the two things I listed above. I've been in contact with my service provider, tried swapping SIM slots and cards, reset my network, verified APN is properly setup. Just about everything by now. Does anybody know of a possible solution to this?
