I've found that you can flash some Desire HD ROMs to the inspire if you flash a compatible kernel over top of it.
I'm currently running Android Revolution HD on my Inspire (so far the only one I've tried, I haven't had any issues yet).
Here are the steps I used to do this:
- Copy ROM and Kernel to SDCard
- reboot into recovery
- Make a nandroid backup from Clockwork Recovery (I always make a backup just in case I need to go back)
- wipe data/cache in Clockwork
- flash ROM from Clockwork
- flash kernel from Clockwork
I used a Telus Desire HD kernel I found on the forums (same as Inspire) Sound and everything works.
I'll also attach the kernel I used for everyone to try it out.
Please report and other ROMs you have success or failure with so everyone can know what works.
EDIT: This isn't really needed anymore since the new source and kernels coming out support the Inspire. Just find a ROM that has the 1.72 kernel source and flash it, it should work as is.
I'm using Revolution HD that mike1986. posted in this this forum with no issues.
does CM7 work? I am scared to mess until I get an easy way to revert to stock like odin back to stock on the captivate. If someone knows an easy fail safe measure like the download mode on the captivate I would love to know then i will try anything!

Tony710 - genius move, buddy. I have had my goldcard ready, but have been waiting for this ROM to become available ( heard this is so much faster and more power efficient than stock).
Needless to say, i'll be rooting and flashing this tomorrow.
Thanks again.
Not cyanogen. Goto HTC Desire HD Development forum, and grab the Android Revolution ROM.
Flashed leedroid v.2 with the telus rom and it works just fine. kinda wish i had the leedroid rom because it had a %20 vol increase. but i now have a 1.22ghz OC!!!!! Can anyone make a increased volume kernel. i've noticed that ours is blocked to 73% of the maxium

Ok so i cracked my HD2 screen last month.... .... anyway it was stock windows mobile and i hacked and slashed it myself to put android into nand. I'm quite familiar with how that works....
I bought a used inspire 4G off ebay and it already came loaded with cleardroid 1.3.1. It's my first android phone ever so i'm not really familiar with all the hacking and slashing stuff. I'm assuming a couple of things must have already been done to it since its running a custom rom but i'm not sure whats in it.
I looked at the Advanced Ace Hack Kit thread and it says not to run it if i have S-off or have a custom rom........ so... where do i stand, how do i check whats been done to it.
You have a custom recovery and are all set to install your own ROMs. If Clockworkmod is not installed download the app from Market. Flash the latest recovery and have fun installing ROMs. S-off is good to go. The old owner had to do it to install the ROM that is currently on it.
You're good, bro. Previous user made it easier on you. No need for Ace Hack Kit or anything. Go download ROM Manager and flash ClockworkMod Recovery. If you like ClearDroid, keep it. If not, go download "Absolution" or "CM7.1" for stock and put it on your SD card, go into Clockwork, select Install Zip from SDcard, find the .zip for Absolution or CM, let it do it's work, and ta-da, you've got AOSP Android.

Before you do Any flashing, I would do yourself a favor and read read and search the forums for any helpful tips. Check out 4ext recovery themes by cwhitney24 over in the absolution thread way better than rom manger. Always make a backup and remember to wipe front to back. Wipe data cache and dalvic cache when switching roms
Thanks for the tips i went ahead and flashed mike1986. ROM....
I was accustomed to using Sense 3.5 on my HD2 but 3.0 isn't too far off and the ROM is great.
A couple of things I noticed:
in hardware it says bluetooth 3.0 but i know the phone doesn't have that, I'm assuming it hasn't actually been upgraded to 3.0.
I only have about 1GB of ROM space after flash, searched around and appears this is normal...couldn't really get a solid answer as to where the other 3GB vanished to.
Hopefully this time around the gorilla glass + otterbox will take a better beating than my poor HD2....

You only have 3gb of space on your phone really. Its due to how the phone is formatted. There are tons of threads about this. And sense Roma ate big so no surprise that it takes up so much space. Enjoy

Did you try to flash it in recovery?
You can't flash a radio from recovery.
I wish ROM cookers would stop with this "recommended radio" crap. The radio you have is fine (with the exception of 12.39.60.19 shipped on a few early Inspires--it had bad battery drain).

You should read the inspire radio thread pretty well before working with flashing radios.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106324
And I would highly suggest not trying to get radio s-off for flashing radios in recovery, and instead just use the PD98IMG.zip method in the bootloader.

Peter Alfonso's GPA19 ROM is the most stable one that I tried. Look for Peter Alfonso's site and click the Downloads link for crespo. I would post a link here, but XDA's nonsense won't allow it.
Download the 12-07-11 one to get the latest GB version. There aren't a lot of customizations like CM, Oxygen, MIUI, etc., but it's stable as hell. The latest Oxygen (2.3.2) has a REALLY obnoxious, and largely ignored, backlight notification bug where you have to reboot to get the lights to go out... only way I've ever found to fix it is to install another kernel. However, Peter Alfonso's got one of those too... just go to his site and it should be on the second page of the "blog."
I know you said you didn't like ICS, and I didn't either at first, but Pete's ICS ROMs are also great and very stable. The latest is 01-30-12, and you can get it from the same crespo download page.
question.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. Both of his ROMs are pre-rooted, so no, you won't have to re-/root anything. But since you're going from ICS to GB you'll have to wipe everything, so there's no real "downgrade" path.
From a rooting perspective, the only difference I've noticed, that's kind of annoying, is that his GB ROM contains busybox and his ICS ROM doesn't. It's not a deal-breaker since there are Market apps to add it in, but it's kind of annoying that the binary has to be re-linked after each update/flash.

Im asking that if i can reverted back to gingerbread version without loosing root, may i install his pre-rooted stock without loosing root. Thats all, but since you mentioned it, im relived to revert it back. but i couldnt find his link could you provide me one? Also is it regular to flash it back to gb or is there a special method to do it?
I can't post links yet because our fine friends at XDA say that I need to post more for the privilege. Pfft.
You should be able to type peter alfonso downloads crespo and get to the page. 12-07-11 is the latest GB version (GPA19).
There's no "special" method for flashing, just do what you would do when going from one incompatible ROM to another... wipe data/factory reset, format cache partition, format /system, wipe dalvik cache. There are probably a million different combinations that different people will give you for the proper install, but that's what I normally do.
Tryout CyberGR's CM7 MOD and you won't go back:

It worked for me as well.
along the same discussion I'd like to ask another question about the new 3.0 kernel.
I'm a weekly ROM changer and usually run IceColdSandwich. Once I switch back to ICS and want to reflash JT to check out the latest improvements/updates, do I have to re-flash the GizRoot_v_2 with the 3.0 kernel then flash JellyTime? Would it work If I did a backup of JellyTime and tried to restore it when a new update comes out or does it become non flashable once I've returned to the older ICS kernel?
In other words, can I flash between ICS and JT without having to go through all the steps to reload the 3.0 kernel?
Thanks in advance to a great community!

IceColdSandwich runs on a 2.6.5 kernel, and will not work with a 3.0 kernel. Jellytime runs on a 3.0 kernel and will not work with a 2.6.5 kernel. Both of those ROMS have their respective kernels included. You only have to flash the ROM. I'd also recommend a full wipe before each flash as well.

usspatriot is actually referring to a separate question. Some of us need to update our firmware to run JB, which can only be done by flashing the latest stock before flashing JB. He wanted to know if the updated firmware would be overwritten by flashing ICS, requiring a reflash of stock before reflashing JB. The ICS and JB kernels are not at issue.
I wonder if this has anything to do with my issue with JB on a Desire HD:
I came from SmartDroid_Reloaded_wwe_1.5.2, did a full wipe, installed, everything works fine for me except for cellular data.
I'm wondering if it's something to do with JB not liking my phone? I've also tried a couple of ICS roms.. See below:
SmartDroid_Reloaded_wwe_1.5.2 = cell data works
Sabsa_Prime_v5.0 = cell data works
TrickDroid_v1.1.1 = cell data works
cm-cfX-20120925-OFFICIAL-ace = no cell data
cm-JellyTime_R10 = no cell data
cm-JellyTime_R10.1 = no cell data
cm-JellyTime_R11 = no cell data
i set my APN's to suit my network (crazy johns in australia) but nothing works..
If i connect to wifi, both the wifi signal and cell signal turn blue, if i disconnect from wifi, both turn grey.
MMS, SMS, Phone calls work fine..

WIFI issues are a nuance of this phone and the tmobile seems to be the most affected - it's different for each access point, user, phone, rom and firmware. In short you'll have to try it.
My tmobile worked with wifi on CM10 and CM10.1, it would not work with Viper until I downgraded my hboot (partial s-off enables some firmware write access) and flashed my wifi firmware. It get's interesting - I then put the old firmware back and the wifi still worked!!
Did you see the S-OFF thread? This will enable you to flash the radio firmware which will solve any problems.
Remember your WIFI channels - different countries use different range of channels and some access points 'helpfull' set the channel automaticlly. I have many devices that cannot cope with channel12.
Not trying to be a buzz kill here, but what's the purpose of this thread? I mean the Dev section is right over there, and the first page is flowing with fully working or close to fully working new ROMS.
Just saying.
I see what your saying. But honestly when you go through the a certain ROMs thread, they never say how WiFi doesn't work on T-Mobile phones. Or any of the problems Tmobiles users face. And who wants to go through a thread having to look for that one specific detail about a ROM whether or not to see if WiFi works. Also when looking through these ROM threads you find people that just like to say thank you (which there is nothing wrong with) that fill up the pages, making it harder to know if everything in that ROM is really going to work on your tmobile HTC one s, because people do search through comments to see what the users say. Therefore I made this thread for all T-Mobile users who want to post and say whether their ROM they are using works perfectly or if they are experiencing problems. And who wants to go through the process of flashing a new ROM without even knowing whether something like WiFi works. So yeah that's why i made this thread
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
I get that, ROM posts can be a little all over the place sometimes. I didn't understand at first; I'm one of the few T-Mo users with pretty much no problems. It also doesn't help that the ROM database that some guy did in the Dev section hasn't been updated for some time.
Thankyou

Ok thank you. Now i think im going to go Flash that rom. And also did you do anything specific to get your wifi working. and what Hboot are you on
If you are S-ON and have high HBOOT and want a Sense-based ROM with working WiFi, you were looking at TrickDroid 7 (TMOUS based), Unknown Retribution, and I think one more (Energy Blue, IIRC) that were based on recent updates. Since they were all based on the TMOUS ROM, everything should work without doing anything super special, including WiFi-calling. Virtuous Ville+ also had working WiFi, but no WiFi-calling. Recent CM 10.1 nightlies are working really well. At least, those are the ROMs I've used.

Right now I'm on Viper 2.1.0 with the full firmware from the 3.16 WWE OTA -- I only made that jump because S-OFF makes it easy to switch without having to downgrade HBOOT. So HBOOT is 2.15 and Radio is 1.11.50.05.28. But I've just started using that and can't give you much in the way of impressions on WiFi stability yet. Just flashed it last night and didn't have any WiFi problems downloading my apps last night or weather checks this morning.
Before that I was using a recent CM 10.1 nightly on the TMOUS 2.35.531.10 firmware. So HBOOT 1.14 and 1.11t. I ran that firmware combination from shortly after its release until flashing Viper. ROMs in use were either CM 10.1 nightlies or Unknown Retribution (TMOUS 2.35 based).

ROMs in use were either CM 10.1 nightlies or Unknown Retribution (TMOUS 2.35 based).

noob question- What do you mean by TMOUS 2.35 based. And how does that affect the cm10.1 nightly
I mean ROMs that were built using T-Mobile US's 2.35 ROM as a base. Other Sense-based ROMs, like Viper, start with different ROMs as a base. The different Sense bases are part of the reason people run into WiFi problems when using ROMs originally created for other regions.
CM 10.1 has an entirely different heritage so it has its own ways of dealing with those issues.

I'm on hboot 1.09 and the wi-fi worked right from the start.
p.s. sorry for the slow reply
Gotta Tell you the Viper 2.1.0 rocks...its fast awesome battery life and its got working wifi...not wifi calling but just wifi in general...it honestly is the best sense ROM...I have tried CM 10, Virtuous Ville+, P.A.C Man and even the ICS ROMs and I gotta say the Venom team makes an awesome product...
"[rom][S4][15FEB]Updated_4.2.2_AOKP-Working-video" seems to work great with TMOUS hboot 1.14, added the new camera (in the post) with photosphere, The only little bug I found is the bluetooth doesn't list station info on my car stereo. I saw a tearing fix using bubba kernel, but I'm just living with it for now. Everything else seems to work great!
I just flashed the LiquidSmooth JB ROM from Droyd and this thing is amazing.. Coming from a rooted Stock Sense there really is no comparison, I might give Viper a try but this is clearly gonna be my daily driver
