Does functionality suffer from the loss of a D-Pad

Im currently using an Elfin, which ive used for quite a while and have no plans of giving up just yet.
But...
I have been thinking about the future of mobiles from HTC.
Several of their most recent ones have no directional pad
(the 4 way thing with a button in the middle)
I was wondering (as the title says) if you feel you loose some functionality because you dont have a dpad.
I know they have bigger screens, and UI improvements, but the ability to navigate with a nice and simple up/down/left/right/enter seems too good to loose. Its one of those basics that i fall back to.
One major issue i would have is I like a few games and apps which require the use of a D Pad. On PPCs without D Pads, is there a way around this?
Ive just been wondering about this for a while.
Anyone else had similar thoughts?
Do you have a phone without a DPad?
If yes, please write something. Im intrigued.
Cris
Yeah I have a touch HD which doesnt have a Dpad, but the functionality is absolutely awesome with the virtual keys, no issues at all. and for games there is a dedicated gamepad developed already. look around for that in here...
I have an HD: only for games you could feel the missing of DPad, for all other programs I use fingers or Keyboard virtual DPad.
I think the big display makes the difference.

[Q] Bluetooth keyboard and mouse support

Hi there!
I'm thinking of buying a bluetooth keyboard and mouse for my Tf.. would make writing mails and so much easier. I'm using Android Revolution HD 3.0.1 ICS Rom, if that matters.
How's the support for such kind of software? What can I expect to work and what not? Would I have to buy a combo or can I just buy a keyboard and a separated mouse?
Also, is the support app specific, or should it work with any app? I suppose that once pairing the keyboard the touch one doesn't appear anymore, correct? Also how's the general feeling, does it feel good or odd, unreliable...?
Thanks!

anybody test this with ICS?

This works with the normal gs2 with ICS so i was wondering if it would work with our phones running the latest ICS leak?
It would be nice to play MC3 on my keybord + mouse.
