What Baseband version are you running?
Menu -> Settings -> About phone
I received the same message a few minutes ago.
Firmware Version : 2.2
Baseband version: 1897UCJI6
Cognition 2.2Beta6
It's there but mine stopped half way through the update. Will have to wait until tomorrow to try again, unless someone knows where the update is downloaded to.
Maybe you can do the update via Kies software instead of waiting 24 hours?
I got the text too, I'm running cognition 2.3b3

is this update going to be stock 2.2?

Running I1897UCJI6
Froyo 2.2
But when trying to do manual update it wouldn't let me...didn't say there was or wasn't an update. Might try mini kies later tonight.
Got the text again and im running jh7 2.1

if you just set your phone's time 24 hours ahead, you don't have to wait for 24 hours to recheck for any updates.
DON'T SEARCH FOR UPDATES WITH A ROOTED PHONE ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE RUNNING 2.2!!!
Large men in black vans will come take you away.

Haha, I highly doubt that it matters to be quite honest.
Searching is one thing, installing would most definitely brick the phone.

Ive been using the manual method for a few days now, and it works fine on 2.3.4 however the battery seemed to drain faster than normal
Is this just the update file and will it mess up my radio/reception/GPS? I'm looking to keep my NS as "clean" as possible and run my Captivate into the ground lol.

hey guys, I know this is a known issue, but I can't take it anymore, I literally can't use 3g, because the voice button activates itself all the time, I'm using it, I don't know if I should send it, to warranty, because this is clearly a bug... I need some advice please.
BTW my nexus s is rooted, I've tried also all the roms available and still got the same issue. help
Have you flashed a different radio? It is a known issue with the 9020A.

- adb push iPad2post.apk to /forum/thread
gonna try that see whats up thanks.
Been waiting months for a fix. KB3 modem is the best in regards to minimizing the problem. Also, cyanogen nightly (7.1) has the option to map the short and long press of the search to "nothing".
There is also a paid app, i think it's called "search nothingness" or something along those lines that can remap the search to nothing.
personally with KB3, i rarely get the issue, usually only during GPS navigation. At home and at work, i have wifi, so 90% of the time, it's a non-issue.

I hope this also fixes my issue with Home and Back buttons getting stuck in "long press."
Yea what a joke. I updated the radio to "fix" my search button issue. Oh it fixes it but also brings capped data speeds and no modifying the ro.ril aka build.prop doesn't help. So sacrifice speed for annoyance depletion or keep the raw dog and risk throwing you're phone out the window at 70 on the interstate!!!! Lol it fixes it. No we just have to fix the data caps again.

I understand the update has been pulled because it caused more problems then it fixed. A new update ifs reported to be released in the next two Weeks, though that is not 100% confirmed.

Its not a huge problem for me. I get great reception almost everywhere I go except for some basements and at work.
I can't take calls while at work so its not a problem.

I had the bug, installed 2.3.6 and it's gone. No more random firing of the search button. My only new bug is that my gmail application Outbox count won't work properly. Even when it's empty it shows a number.
If I reset the application and clear it's data it starts up again with the issue.

Hey guys I didn't want to start another thread so I'm continuing this post.
I'm still noticing the search button bug (Firing randomly) in low reception areas.
Currently I'm running the ICS OTA 4.0.3 with UCKF1 radio on the i9020a.
Is anyone else still seeing this bug from time to time? Did anyone find a way to fix completely? If so please share you solution, if not share your stories. Thanks guys.
I have the i9020a and mine had the annoying bug as well except it was the home button firing with recent apps coming up all the time. I have updated to 4.0.3 from the t-mobile version and flashed the ucke1 radio and have not hae the problem since. In fact I have not run into any problems yet.

So recently seemingly randomly, my rocket tries to say I have lte when I should only have 4g. I live near DC, but not close enough for lte. So when I try to send a text, it often fails and needs me to resend it. For someone who sends 25k a month, this is ridiculous. I'm not sure if the whole device is breaking or if the lte and texting issues are related. Help??

Change to gsm/hspa only in mobile networks, then it will disable the LTE radio, problem solved
When I go to mobile network settings, I don't see any options to be able to change it to either of those options. There's not much of anything that I can even change there. Is my version /build different from yours?

it works similar to how windows uses drivers to communicate with the hardware, it is basically the same way linux is able to allow the android operating system to communicate with the hardware layer of your network radio, incompatible RIL/baseband can cause dropped calls etc, if it errors out.

You know guys, I thought the same until I realized that cm7 and all ROMs based on it had mismatched ril when installed... sometimes I forgot to use getril for days and there were no noticeable issues.
IMHO I guess, but I have found a lot of such info on xda is belief based (GPS fixes are another example). Anyways whatever floats a boat I guess.

hello...
what's going on everyone... first off just want to thank everyone for their hard work on these forums. thought the whole rooting/modding thing seemed harder than it looked, but when i finally got down and dirty, it reminded me of when i modded my psp a few years back!
anyway, just reading this thread and decided to dl getRIL, and it does say my RIL/baseband don't match. i'm running the g2x with cm7/mazout's 2.6.32.60 GB kernel and the "new baseband fix" after having the popping/"hash hash" sound (can't recall where the thread is off the top of my head...). getRIL says i'm running v20c, i was under the impression that this setup was "v21y-ish"? i've had this setup for a few days now, and the only issues i've had were random reboots/shutdowns (85% positive it's a battery issue... it looks like it's swelling!). i switched from cm10.1 JB (yesss! JB on my g2x...waitaminit... can't call or text?!?!?! aarrgggh!) to EB ICS 4.0.4 for about a week to my current setup (as i like having HWA and a video camera.) but with my current setup, no data/radio issues so far...
basically the point is: should i mess with my baseband or leave it as is? again, thanks!!!
I would use getril to adjust your ril to the baseband just as i did.

It's the same as updating drivers on your computer, you either want to, or you dont. But if you start having issues with connectivity, it is advised that you update the RIL first.
Mine didn't seem like it had any issues either but I did it anyway in the hopes that I could get better battery life, call quality, etc. Haven't really noticed any improvements yet lol.....
So I did it... so far no issues n everything sounds fine as far as radio/call quality goes...

No real issues, just didn't want any issues in the future with RIL/baseband nit matching... plus I'm kinda OCD when I mod my gadgets. That's why I went back to GB from the EB ICS rom I was running, I had to have video camera n HWA functioning

question: why are phones sold with unmatched modem/RIL?
Neither of mine were?
Sent from my SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 4
It is almost always best to use the RIL that matches the software version it is meant to work with. The RIL is responsible for interpreting commands between the Android kernel and the hardware radio/modem that enable the phone to work as a cell phone. One of the reasons that the G2X won't work as a cell phone with ICS is the incompatibility of the GB RIL with ICS and no G2X specific RIL for ICS is available.
