Hey guys, I'm having an issue here and I'm looking for help. I came from a Vibrant and loved it, have the Charge now and it's a great phone but I need a custom ROM quick. I have a desktop running Vista 32-BIT, and when I open ODIN and put my phone in DOWNLOAD MODE my PC starts searching for a Gadget Serial Driver. It searches and searches to no avail, and then it searches Windows Update. I've downloaded the drivers for the Charge and installed them and I'm still running into this error. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.
You could reinstall the drivers; rt click them and run as administrator.
Also try right clicking odin and run as administrator.
Also try different usb ports.

Ok guys so I got it working. When I plugged my phone in to the computer for some reason it wouldn't recognize the drivers from the phone. So I downloaded the drivers from one of the forums and was having issues installing them. Well come to find out in Windows Vista and Windows 7 there is this security feature called Driver Verifying. It's checking the drivers signature to see if it is a security risk or not. Well for some reason Samsung signs their drivers really weird or not at all. So the fix is to reboot your computer and on startup keep hitting the F8 key till some options pop up and select DISABLE DRIVER SIGNATURE VERIFICATION and the drivers should install smooth as butter. This is only a single boot use so if you shut down or restart your computer at anytime you'll have to disable it again on another restart. Hope this info makes it easier for some. Cheers.

So I had the dreaded Win 7 x64 crash. I uninstalled IE 9. No go. Used that DLL fix (which I can't remember where I found it). Still crashed. So here's how I got around the problem.
Note:
I'm just sharing what I found since none of the solutions I googled up worked for me (maybe I'm the only one). For those who wonder why anyone would bother with stock Froyo, I'm sure there are reasons. I just wanted to do some testing of the upgrade exactly as it came from Samsung. There's probably an Odin flashable package somewhere which may be bit-for-bit identical, but I didn't bother looking. I'm hoping this will work if another update comes down the pike (Ha!) and Kies is still broken.
Here's what worked for me. It may brick your phone so understand that before you start.
Step 1:
Load up Virtual PC.
In Virtual PC:
Install the Samsung drivers
Install Kies Mini
Install Samsung PC Studio (for Gadget Serial driver)
Step 2 - back to the phone:
Flash stock. I flashed one-click JF6, but use the right stock firmware for your phone (build 1010 and later phones should use something like this)
Step 3:
At this point you may want to make sure the Gadget Serial driver is loaded and working (if you one-click flashed JF6 skip to step 4), so put the phone into download mode and plug it into the PC.
In Virtual PC:
USB Menu->Gadget Serial Attach
Insure that driver is working. If it isn't then the update won't work because Kies Mini will not be able to communicate with the phone after it goes into download mode. If it works then skip to step 5. If not then do step 4.
Step 4:
Have CWM update.zip on you sdcard root directory
Reinstall packages
Reinstall packages again
Install zip from sdcard
Install sbl_CWM_update.zip (attached to this post)
Do the step 3 check. If that fails then the Gadget Serial driver isn't recognizing you phone and this isn't going to work unless you can fix it.
Step 5:
Reboot the phone, turn on USB debugging then plug it in to the PC.
In Virtual PC:
Start Kies Mini
USB->Samsung_Android Attach
Start the upgrade
Wait 12 years or so until the phone goes into download mode
USB->Gadget Serial Attach
The install should continue automatically. If it doesn't there is an upgrade button which should be enabled when driver is loaded and the phone is detected.
Wait for the install to finish, at which point to phone should boot into Froyo.
Done.
thanks
cool, i had tried all of the other ways of forcing kies to recognize my computer... but it always ended with the same crash, nice little white box where the program should be. so im trying this out but its taking forever to get xp virtual machine up and running. i will post again with my final results
ok now for my story
i have had flashed multiple versions of cognition on my phone and have become very familiar with the process. i do love cog 3.04 but the problem is that the swype that is loaded on the rom is a 60 day trial version and it ran out. so i wanted to try out the stock froyo and see what improvents i wanted so i could cook my own rom.
i went and got kies mini on the release date for froyo and it was crashing everytime i used it, giving me this lovely white box on my windows 7 x64 ultimate computer. i tried multiple work arounds and have never thought of virtual machine so thank you for that.
i want and ran my odin one click reflashed to jf6, then decided to see if kies recognized my phone. it imediately was recognized and started to update in the virtual machine.
it is currently downloading to my phone and i will repost again if my phone either becomes soft bricked or if the update goes through
Please help me find the Gadget Serial Driver for My Samsung Vibrant
I've been trying to Update my Samsung Vibrant from version KA2 to version KB5 using Samsung Kies mini to no avail. I am running Windows XP SP3.
I know, this is a developer site but I have a feeling I won't be able to develop at all because I when I try to update to (Official) Froyo (Provided through Kies mini), I get stuck in download mode with the yellow sign forever. Luckily I can restore by taking the battery out and rebooting my phone. This is problem is due to not having a Gadget Serial Driver installed. Now note, I have all the other USB drivers installed properly. They all show up in Device Manager, however the darn Gadget Serial Driver is MIA and Windows only notices that is missing the driver when the phone enters Download Mode. I have searched xda developers for this issue and I have seen a number of posts where other people have had the same issue and maybe a couple of people solved it by installing PC Studio. I have Googled up and down the internet, went to Samsung's website and even spoke to a Samsung Representative for a link to Samsung PC Studio. However all of the links I found were either dead, contained fake software or were just shady.
Samsung's site no longer contains an actual download link to PC Studio or New PC Studio (I don't know the difference). Can someone please help me get this Gadget Serial Driver or the PC Studio software which may solve this driver issue? Please don't point me to any "Samsung USB Drivers For Mobile Phones" links because I've downloaded that driver and it has solved nothing. Thanks in advance and sorry for sounding like a complete n00b.

Thanks man. That made my day. I needed that.
You can also get the Heimdall suite and open the drivers folder and run Zandig. Then connect your phone in download mode it should show gadget serial in the device window click install and it should complete and you're good to go, this is how I did it after 3 days trying to get my phone to stop showing the device malfunction error which is due to another problem on my main xp machine, a sony which I can't get usb 2.0 drivers for from sony or anywhere else to work correctly even though all 8 ports are 2.0 according to support, my manual, and previous xp install and that's after installing xp 4 times to get the graphics driver to install right so I could then install the right ati driver which everyone online with this model sony seems to have to do, but back on topic. I hopped on my windows server 2k3 machine which had correctly working usb 2.0 drivers ran zandig with my cappy in dl mode and BAM finally working gadget serial driver, just make sure you have zandig.exe open, and connect your phone in DL mode or you'll just install the equivalent of the standard samsung drivers which you prolly already have, I haven't been able to test this on a win7 machine but from what I've read the heimdall driver should work on them and worked great on both xp and server 2k3 on my home server machine.

I just recovered my phone from it bootlooping into the s/w screen but now i'm getting no data connection to my carrier. I'm guessing the only way to restore this problem is to use LG updater tool to flash the OTA 2.3.3 which also flashes a new baseband(which is what i need)
I have tried using LG tool but for some reason it keeps giving me errors saying usb connection error or can't connect to phone. I have tried 2 different cables so that can't be the problem. I'm running Windows 7 32 bit, do i need to have the phone on fully booted into android, or should i be running it on the s/w update screen?
You might have already done this but what I would recommend doing is re-installing G2x drivers and then try again.

Yea, but it never hurts to try again from scratch. Thanks for the input.

When you get the connection error try unplugging the USB cable, wait for the computer to beep to confirm the USB device driver has been unloaded, plug the cable back in and wait for the computer to beep to verify that the device driver is running again and then click the restart button on the LG Update. This happened to me once and this is how I fixed it. I ignored the message about pulling the battery. If that doesn't work then you need to search for the thread on the KDZ method and update your phone that way. KDZ method flashes the same ROM as the LG Updater.
Ya, i've tried just about everything including the kdz method. I even ran it on my friends xp computer but got the same results i did when i was on windows 7. LG tool and kdz just friggin hates my phone and computers i guess because i have followed all the threads and peoples advice and still can never get past the errors those programs keep giving me.
Please don't take this as a patronizing question, but did you install the LG USB driver package for T-Mobile phones? If you didn't then none of the above mentioned tools will be able to connect to your phone. Did you also turn off anti-virus, firewall, all background programs, etc. before trying to connect? If you did that and you still cannot connect go into control panel with your phone connected, find the LG Modem driver for the phone and disable it. The modem connecting first can prevent the phone from connecting in a mode it can be flashed. Then disconnect the USB cable and plug it back in. When the drivers load about ten devices should be installed. The first time my phone was plugged into my computer only two devices installed. I then reinstalled the drivers from the LG Updater program directly (not the ones downloaded from the LG TMO G2X driver page) and then the next time I plugged in my phone about eight new devices were S/W update mode more drivers get installed. This delay sometimes causes a communications error the first time, but unplugging the cable and reinserting it will sometimes fix the problem at that point.
I welcome your feedback
Yea I installed that driver where it loads 8-10 additional drivers for g2x. So I think I will try disabling the modem driver and restart the LG update tool. At this point I've tried just about everything but am willing to try any other suggestions, like yours, and thank you for the help.

Windows 7 (x64)
Just got a Samsung infuse and i've had nothing but issues since the start. For starters. Im trying to go back to stock and start over. Ive tried odin and heimdall. ive tried at least 5 different driver packages. NOTHING will recognize the device. Ive tried different cables. different ports. Even different computers.
When I install any driver to it windows gives me code 10.
im about to throw this phone out the window
Are you using odin3.3?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
You need to download Kies Mini inorder to obtain the drivers for your device 1st of all. Once the Drivers install it will recognize your phone that is plugged in as Samsung. The rest of the Software does completely nothing other than give us drivers, Once your finished with the drivers reopen Odin set all the options as needed Put your phone into Download Mode and you should see a Port # show up as either 3, or some other number as long as theirs a Port # then you can flash the Rom.
Ok so i FINALLY got the drivers correct. however, ODIN now hangs on 'setting up connection"
now what?
Ok. so i set compatibility in windows to vista sp2 lol now it works?

Previously, were you running it as Administrator? I believe that is required on Win7, but not on Vista (which I am running).
yea... i was running on admin every attempt. weird.
now im just trying to figure out why CWM wont see my external sd card.
I am coming from the Galaxy S Vibrant and so far I am not impressed by the whole rooting process for the Skyrocket. I have tried on 3 different windows computers and every time it says it is unable to recognize device. I installed the drivers but I don't believe they were installed correctly. When I click root in super one click, the application stops responding.
I made sure to select debugging and when I connect the phone to the computer nothing prompts me on the phone. Is there something I am missing in order to get the Skyrocket recognized by Windows?

You need to be patient. the program stopped responding for nearly 5 minutes for me before it started going again and my PC is lightning fast.
Try installing Samsung kies. Should give you all the drivers you need.
If your computer doesn't recognize the phone at all then you most likely dont have the drivers installed correctly or a USB hub driver issue in which case no USB devices would work. Like I said, try installing kies. Once you can get the PC to recognize the phone as a storage device, you should be good to run the root program.

i had somewhat the same problem , I rooted my old vibrant first incase i screwed something up , no big loss , it went smooth as butter , then I hooked the SR up and it took forever , 3 try I unplugged alot of my other usb devices , restarted the pc and tried , it hung for a few minutes and I left it alone , it eventually worked the last time. I also have a pretty solid pc , running win7 64bit , unplugging alot of my usb devices seemed to be the thing that really helped.
hope that helps ya

rooting this device is easier then posting that on the forum =)
1) If you are still 2.3.5 (and didn't do the OTA upgrade) -> use doomlord's script (DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su) or newer if there is one:
-if you did do the OTA upgrade - search the forum for another way to root.
2) install KIES (if its installed, continue to 3)
3) extract the DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip to anywhere (maybe c:\doom )
4) open a command prompt (run as administrator if your not running windows XP)
5) goto c:\doom\files\
6) type "adb devices"
- if it finds your device - just run the script , it will root your phone
- if it does NOT find your device, troubleshot kies (uninstall it, reboot, reinstall, disable anti virus/firewall, etc etc) because if it can't find the device then the problem is someplace on your computer.
good luck!
Okay I have search XDA and LG AND google search for this problem and have not found any solution to what I'm going through. Here's a little background on my phone
T-Mobile G2x rooted with the ROM HellFire Phoenix V2.1
Before today I was able to mount my SD card to my computer with no problem seeing I've had the phone since it came out. Today my computer showed it was installing the drivers but gave me a message "device drive was not successfully installed...usb composite device failed. Now I have used different usb ports and different usb cables and my computer is STILL giving me the same message!
I have even uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them and still coming up with the same issue. I even restarted my computer after each and I keep coming to the same issue. Can someone please give me a solution to this frustrating problem? It would be greatly appreciated!
Same exact issue except on 2.2
I think you mean HFP, hfs is only up to 1.7

What about USB debugging is it checked? try the opposite of what it is with a reboot, also link where the drivers are being downloaded from.

Yeah I made sure USB debugging is indeed checked, and when you say try the opposite meaning what? uncheck debugging...reboot then check it again?
The drivers are being downloaded from the LG Mobile Support tool program that downloads and installs the latest drivers. Which can be found here http://www.lg.com/us/support/mobile-devices/phone-support
I even posted on the LG forum as well, got a response from an employee who told me basically what I had been doing, uninstalling , restart the computer, reinstall, restart again and then connect my device and STILL the same message. I have no idea why its doing this, its never done this before unless there was a new Windows update or something but there hasn't been. Oh and my Windows is Vista by the way in case anyone was wondering.
I used B2CAppSetup.exe From LG. I was having the exact same issue, this solved it. I uploaded it here: http://www.mediafire.com/?e2vnaw5a0ljljj4
EDIT: Vista or Seven - make sure you right-click the .exe and Run As Administrator.
I had the same issue with HFS so I just started taking the card out of my phone and putting it directly into the computer.
I had this issue a while back after re-installing the drivers. Plug the phone in and the little systray icon would tell me the usb composite device failed.
What worked was going to the device manager and installing drivers from there, but instead of browsing to the drivers as I tried many times the solution was letting Windows choose. It popped up with two choices the generic usb composite device and the LG phone. Picked the phone and I was good to go.
Hope this helps someone and if it does please hit the thanks button.

Thats the exact program I have been using and I still have the same issue, I'm thinking of just going back to another ROM since it seems to be an issue with HFP then I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with this issue.
On the stock ROMs you had to set it for USB file sharing only and then actually enable file sharing once it's plugged in. I can't try anything but a stock ROM (running BB 3/2012) at the moment.
Not sure if HF is the same way.....
Antivirus
Once I had driver issues because of an overzealous Antivirus. Try uninstalling the drivers, restart, disable the antivirus, and reinstall.
I have a question for you guys, I tried restoring to a previous Hellfire ROM i backed up thinking that would work and it didn't.
So what happens if I can't get this to work? Without me being able to access my external/internal SD cards I can't load a new ROM or anything even if i wanted to unroot the phone and get another one from T-Mobile I can't or can I?
Is there any other way to restore back to factory settings without connecting to my PC? This is highly frustrating and i have NO idea why my phone and PC aren't working together like they did before in the past.
Did you run as administrator?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Yes i have done everything. Run as administrator, restarting my computer after every uninstall and re-install of the drivers, made sure USB debugging was checked, even restored a previous ROM i saved thru clockwork-mod and when i connect the phone through the USB to my computer i keep getting the USB composite device failed.
Nothing seems to work, so I'm thinking of just accepting that its not going to work and save up and get a new phone eventually which sucks cause since rooting the G2x I love it more than when it was stocked.

Ok mshoney6, Here is your solution: (you can thank me later)
After much digging and searching, searching, searching I found this driver and I uploaded it for you. Get it HERE: http://www.mediafire.com/?ahc3iklqmoa0gnc
First, go to your control panel > add/remove programs > and uninstall ANYTHING LG! This includes the Mobile Support Tool.
Second, make sure your phone and USB cable are not connected to your pc.
Now, right-click the file you downloaded above and "Run As Administrator".
DONE! Connect your phone to the PC and Viola!
