Me too. I tried making this thread a while ago to no avail. Maybe we will have better luck now.

The process for creating ROMs on the userland side is pretty generic to Android, you may want to do some generic Android research.
Personally I'm fine with the level of ROM development. Quality, not quantity.

I am perfectly fine with the roms we have as well but i would also like to strech my horizions and be able to contribute. "Having roms that we are fine with doesnt meam there should be less development" with that said i would like to return to my first post and get.sone.help in learning

As I said, do some searching. MikeyMike01 has a pretty good tutorial located somewhere else on XDA - captivate forums maybe? Or generic Android possibly, I don't remember.

Thank you for the reply i will look into that.
P.s. This is the kinda response people need to hear

Developer Appreciation

I saw a thread like this in the Fascinate Forums but could not find one in here.
So here it is. I just wanted to say Thank you to all the developers out there making these great mods for our phones. I have finally been able to get my mesmerize to perform the way I feel it should with the Kernels and ROM's found on XDA. I am a pretty tech savvy guy but android was completely new to me. With the well written walk throughs and very well designed/written ROM's and Kernels. I was able to do everything I wanted to without a single issue.
All in all. Great work guys. I look forward to the future of android and all the great Mods,ROM's, and Kernels that come with it.
I second that.
Thanks
Kind of a pointless thread, if you want to thank them there is a button for that. Or donate to them or something.

best infuse rom

make your case here
Been happy to run stock for a while, but going to load something new tomorrow
currently using infused 1.5, I like the stock look but wanted the extra tweaks and features like bloatware gone, better battery life and its noticably faster.
Infused gives you 2 options at startup for launcher, either a much more revamped version of touchwiz 3 or the gingerbread style launcher with 3d drawer. I prefer the revamped tw. most of the core components your used to with stock will be there but you get the open market, not att crappy version, widget picker so your list isn't a mile long, hotspot enabled and some other stuff, just read the changelogs. So if you love the stock look but want the added stuff infused is for you.
I never understand questions like these lol. There isn't a best, it's a matter of personal preference.

You. Should Read the entire thread of both roms you're interested in and ask questions there. There's no need to clog up the forum with pointless threads.
It's pointer because there are already threads about the roms. Post there.

I'm using Infused 1.5 (with the 4.5 TouchWiz launcher found here) + bedwa's Infusion Kernel.
Gtg's rom is already very smooth and quick, added in the OC from the Infusion kernel and this phone flies. Also, the battery life is pretty great thanks to the rom in itself and the UV'ing from the kernel.
Really enjoying this setup as of now, the only thing that would really make me change is if a developer produced a CyanogenMod rom or an MIUI rom.
Having tried all three, there isn't a huge difference and it comes down to personal preference. Once you're on ext4 you can literally flash a new rom and kernel in the same amount of time it took you to come up with that monster slam "what are you from Missouri" lol
Edit: and trust me, once you flash one, you'll end up trying them all. You should start with infused since his thread has very noob-friendly instructions for people like you

I've flashed more roms than I care to in my time, but I'm traveling on work and I have limited time I'm on wifi to download roms to install. Don't want to wait 2 more weeks until I get back home, so I figured I'd ask people who have roms installed.
that was a nice attempt at an insult in the edit, but you betray your ignorance in the first paragraph when you defended Missouri.
In the words of Grandpa Simpson "I'll be deep in the cold, cold ground before I recognize Missourah."
Thanks for posting this thread and in the right spot!
I have infused and enjoy it, I am curious about the others but all the rom threads are wanked now.
There are a couple of things I have to do on a daily basis that make switching roms every other day impractical.
My phone requirements run more to usability than looks, fortunately the infused rom provides a nice stable base for both.

made the thread in general discussion and kids just still can't help but flame
what the hell's this forum for if you can't even make a thread about favorite roms and pro's/con's without being flamed by 12 year olds
Shouldn't have called the thread "best infuse rom" maybe "which rom works best for you and why"
Frankly, there is no best rom. Its all preference.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
There's a reason we mods don't like "best rom" threads. Unnecesary flaming, name calling, etc.
Like the others said: there is no "best" rom, only the one that best suits you. And you have to find it yourself, no one can do it for you.

MIUI for SK 4g

Is there anyone working on port a MIUI rom to the sidekick 4g or know how to do it. I whated to try to port the vibrant MIUI rom to the sidekic 4g but I don't know how.

Ya I kinda wondered that myself...MIUI would be awesome..hopefully we can get some devs over in this section. Just picked a SK4G and so far pleased.
This is a pretty interesting post considering I just tried out MIUI on my old Vibrant. An amazing ROM. I'd put some money into it if they were interested in making a SK4G version.
I've ran MIUI on my HD2 for awhile now and switching to the SK is like learning a whole nea android lol...there's one on the Vibrant...how easy would it be to port it since the guys are about the same?

Spec wise I believe the phones are the same, but really aren't. Keyboard, camera, RAM, GPS (it works lol), Jump Button, Track Pad, etc. I though the same when I got the SK4G but found my self way off haha. I guess the base is all the same as a Galaxy S but there are certain changes to make the phone cheaper.
I'm sure if someone got a hold of the Bali Kernel that drhonk created then it'll be a step in the right direction.
whats miui?
This should go to general , & this is why developer's quit the SK4G because of people like you . Stop asking for roms or ETA's it get's developer's pist off .

Honestly this is why developers aren't here in the SK4G section because someone asks if there is a rom development going on? Just about every section for a phone if someone doesn't see the type of rom there is a question asked if there is anything being developed for it. Something like this shouldn't cause a developer to leave, it should show them that there is a interest in a type of rom.
That being said I do agree that people shouldn't always ask about a ETA on a rom that's being developed because yes that does annoy the developer.
Thing is as much as I love a MIUI rom and would want it I have seen people get bashed (fawk mainly) for having these types of posts in the development section. This community is dying because everyone is so divided. But just saying that yes we hope someone will develop/port MIUI over to the SK4G and I don't like people giving etas but people have been literally forum-yelled at by people for posting this stuff in development.

greetings fair ones...i've a new ship, The sgs4G

i've arrived from the vibrant forum to a new home, and it is indeed a strange land.
anyway, loved the vibrant forums and look forward to these. while visiting the store for a warranty exchange the CS rep alerted me to the fact that i was in line for a Free warranty Upgrade?!?!?!?! to the SGS 4G free o' charge...i said yes. i've started reading the Bible's post on porting vibrant roms over, i'm using Jetpack 3.1(my favorite port to the vibrant) as my vibrant rom. it's my first real attempt at trying to do this and succeed or fail i want to go through with this...if any of you have pointers towards more resources please point! currently i'm really happy/impressed running stock rooted with TW's Bali 3.3 Kernel using the Go launcher. glad to be on board.
Welcome to the SGS4G forums. You can get started by looking at the rom threads that you like and just reading some posts and ask questions, alot of questions . Our community will gladly assist you on what you need to get done. I would normally suggest reading the Bible but it hasn't been updated in a while. It still has alot of useful information, so you can still check it out if you please. You will most definitely enjoy your stay here.
P.S- If you want Gingerbread right now, there's a thread on the development section called The gingerbread starter pack by fbis251, it's a sure way to get on GB the RIGHT way, even though I'm still on Froyo LOL.

Flat out fastest rom out there?

I know this is kind of vague and broad, but I wanted to get your opinions on what the fastest roms are that are out there for the Verizon version of the Galaxy SIII.
I just got mine in the mail today and will be ready to root and get goin in a couple hours after the battery charges. I am coming from the Thunderbolt, may it rest in peace, and MY GOD the lag drove me crazy, so I want the quickest LEAST laggy rom for the SIII !
You've been here since 2011, you should know the difference between Q&A and Development.
this isn't development, shouldn't go here
as far as your question goes, i feel aerovans 4.2.1 is plenty fast enough....others you can tweak and screw with all you want if you have a kernel that supports OC'ing your device......only way to tell what is the fastest in your opinion is to flash each one and test it out...simple as that
edit: damnit was ninja'd of my chance to say that for the first time lol

Uh oh.. a wrong section violation. OP, hope you have a good lawyer..that's a crime punishable by death around here.
To answer the question though, people's mileage varies with ROMs. Its all in what you load with them(apps, etc.). The fastest are the AOSP ones, if you don't mind losing the bells and whistles, and putting up with the inherent bugs. Other than that, the more stripped the Touchwiz rom is, the faster it generally should be. Look around, see what one has the minimum of what you want, and give it a shot. Unlock your bootloader. Try an overclock kernel. See how it goes
lol, unless its a thread about a ROM you created, it shouldn't go in development or original development threads
if its a specific question relating to a certain ROM, ask it in that ROMs forum but beware to be flamed for not using the search function
if its a question about a theme or app and theres not a thread started in the themes & apps forum, then a question could possibly be asked in there if its relating to that only
all other questions and inquiries should be posted in the Q&A forum.......at least thats the logic i use when posting on the forums lol
It should be in q and a

This rom has been CRAZY fast on my s3. I tried Paranoid Android and Synergy too. The battery life is also insane, I got 26 hours yesterday (few hours on airplane for overnight).
While everyone is fluffing up their post counts by restating the SAME obvious information over and over for community brownie points, just thought I'd duck in and mention that the sky is generally blue, unless there are clouds in which case it may appear a color between white and dark grey.
In all seriousness though a mod will see that the thread is in the wrong section and move it accordingly. That is their job.Why 267754 people have to let that person know it's in the wrong section is beyond me.

Look the problem is if questions are posted in development then it will start to be hard keeping up with development because it will be cluttered by questions. That is why there are seperate sections.
As for them not being answered... Have you looked lately? There are many senior members who spend there time just cruising there to answer questions. Droid style, con, sdy(can't remember the rest now) to name a few. I personally spend most my time in q and a helping out with the little knowledge I have.
To the OP it depends what you mean by fast. If you mean benchmarks then stick with with tw, I prefer beans with lean kernel WAY overclocked. If real world I say AOSP based, they're light and lag free. My personnel favorite is Eclipse

I've always had really good luck with AOSP ROMS in the past on other devices as far as speed goes. Since getting my gs3 I've only tried a couple of TWIZ Roms so far and I'm really pleased with MLJBM with Lean Kernel. Its super fast and buttery smooth and battery is decent as well. With that said I've noticed in the past with previous devices that some Roms respond better on one device and not so much on another. Youre probably best off taking the advice that was mentioned earlier and try a few different ones out for yourself til you find what youre looking for
