Update problem. - HTC Sensation

Ok I saw a lot of members having a problem with the 2.3.4 update so I thought I'd make a thread where someone can help us all out at once rather than going thread by thread.
The problem is that when it powers off and boots up when installing the update, it shows the green android next to a triangle with an exclamation mark in it. And yes I'm rooted and S-offed. So can anyone help us? Thanks.

+1. Have tried both OTA and Clockwork recovery to no avail. Guess it could be CID problem. Now the OTA has been withdrawn from my phone. I can only wait and check update later with my fingers crossed.

Does this mean that you've tried flashing Stock ROMs with 2.3.4 (in CWM)?

Yup. Have done that several times for the past 2 days and failed. Luckily it allows me to reboot back to Tmobile Stock 2.3.3 (rooted).

have you completed steps for super-cid in this thread? (assuming CID is your problem)

I just did and succeeded with the super cid. But still can't update.

That guy said it worked for him. I'm gonna try it tomorrow.

Sounds hopeful. Will also give it a try next week. Many thanks.

Ppl, if your rooted and s off u will not be able to get ota updates. There is a deoxed version of the ota in the development section already.

Done that (Tmobile Stock 2.3.3 rooted) but to no avail

I think he means, you need recovery as it was PRE-ClockworkMod. Any threads?
(correct me if I'm wrong)
Then that's a different matter altogether. Will need to figure that out. Does that involve unrooting the device after recovery?

I'm going to do this tomorrow to update. It should work.
So did it work
- Backup everything using CWM and Titanium Backup.
- Install the RUU to get back to Stock Recovery. (You'll loose all settings/apps/SMS/etc..)
- Install your OTA update.
- Restore everything using Titanium Backup.
This should work for any of you who has CWM Recovery. If you already have Stock Recovery, then you're ready to go. You don't need to flash a new rom by the RUU.
It's not the root that is causing the problem, it is the CWM Recovery.
Keep in mind, flashing a RUU may brick your device, I take no responsibilities of any damage that may be caused to your device
I just discovered a new method, tried it and it worked.
Take a look at this.

Rooted can't update

I thought I posted this but I can't find it! I rooted my phone and HTC is trying to push an update to my phone. When I try to install it the android guy.pops up with an exclamation point in a triangle...and it freezes there. Any advice? Thanks!

I would wait till someone adds the update into a rom. You could loose root if you update.
If your on a custom Rom just wait for the next release, chances are it wills be in there it if isn't in there already.
If your on stock, then perhaps look for a rooted stock Rom. Someone is bound to pit the newest up with the update already installed in there.
This happened with a lot of EVO 3D users, they updated and lost root and then got stuck at hboot 1.50...
So don't just on every update you see lol.

Can you get HTC updates even with S-off, but with stock rom installed?

Can you still get HTC updates even with S-off, but with stock rom installed?
Or can HTC detect S-off and will not update?
Yes, as long as you don't install a custom recovery.

And if you do have a custom recovery, don't fret.
A short time after the OTA comes out it'll be available for download so you can install via ClockworkMod. That's the power of XDA
You have any idea when OTA comes out?

Your guess is as good as ours.
There is this which states that we should get it in January. My guess they may start a rollout in the middle of February.

Quick question regarding root from stock 1.85

Hey everybody, coming from a Atrix, loving the phone so far. I've been doing some reading and want to confirm what I believe I'm seeing: if the OneX I bought from AT&T has 1.85 already on it, I can't root or flash any ROMS yet? All of the root/CWM stuff is just got users on earlier versions, or who are on 1.85 AFTER rooting/unlocking, is that correct? Am I stuck for now?
Thanks!
That is correct if it is for sure 1.85. I think I read somewhere they have a root, but weren't releasing it till after official release.
Someone said at&t hasn't released an update yet, check and see if you bootloader is unlocked, someone did say you may have got a returned phone.
You could also try the one click root and see what happens.

Man I really hope your right that there is an exploit in waiting! I moved to 1.85 by accident and lost root, and I keep hoping a developer gets a break!
here's hoping it is soon!
What happens if we try the one click root? Any damage or bricking?

It will just fail. Won't hurt the phone.

Is it possible to root in the new update?

I had this phone since it came out, and rooted and S-Off and I had tons of issues. Such as Wifi disconnecting and needing to restart the phone in order for it to work, also sometimes Wifi slowed down to a super crawl. Random reboots, etc. But this probably could of been credited to me dropping it all the time and messing up the internals.
I returned it and got a new one, updated to the latest and haven't rooted. Battery life is amazing, but too much bloatware!!!! Can I root and s-off the latest tmobile software? Cause I tried running the older RUU and that failed to install on my phone.

You are saying that HTC them selves provided a rooting guide? If so can you provide a link for HTC Unlock method.
Thanks in advance

No HTC does not provide a rooting guide. They simply make it easy for you to unlock the bootloader using http://www.htcdev.com/
Once the bootloader is unlock you can root via a few method. There's plenty of sticky thread in the dev section.
This is just one thread

I recommend you install TWRP recovery so that you will find it simpler to flash roms. No need to fastboot flash boot.img.

Please read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24806342#post24806342 especially the first part of that post, where a reasonable user kindly seems to suggest that a fellow user read very easy to find info instead of starting a thread. You must have posted that in anticipation of this thread?
