Help: EFS Not Mounting After Flash - Samsung Mesmerize

I've been running CM7 for a month or so and I started having some stability problems. So I decided to try DarkyRom.
I did everything like normal (used heimdall).
Upon boot it had an error.
Failed to mount /efs while applying multi-csc.
I'm dead in the water. I tried to flash back to stock. I get an error and thrown into samsung recovery. I can reboot from that and I boot to the gui with no radio. Phone info says "Unknown" Hardware and Baseband Version.
No. I did not backup any EFS (news to me). I do have access to the same model phone, my son has one he just uses as a fancy MP3 player (no phone/data plan).
Is there anything I can do? I did use the ADB Shell and ran "mount" to see if the EFS was mounted. It was a negative...

Could this have something to do with the file system?
I don't have CWM working. I'm going to work on that. Right now I juast have Samsung Rec. Utils. The error that is in there is:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (Invalid argument)

First off,are you even on the right forum? Darky rom isn't built for this phone so it's not going to work.

Ugh...an unfortunate response. Yes...I'm on the right forum.

I did make a CWM backup from a couple weeks ago. Not sure if that helps.

Them why are you flashing roms from other forums/phones? Use odin and check repartition.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

*hangs head* Admonishment accepted. I really don't know what I was thinking.
Here is my progress. I tried using Odin to just Re-partition. No go.
<ID:0/003> Can't open the specified file. (Line: 1455)
So then I downloaded stock EC10 (That was factory on my phone). I flashed that via Odin with "Success".
The same error as initially posted was on the phone. I rebooted from the stock recovery console and I was able to boot. 3g works. The hardware and baseband are now accurate. I'm getting a lot of force closes however. The twlauncher is constantly crashing.
So now the phone is semi-functional but there are still errors. (I was getting more forces than normal in CM7 that caused me to dive into this process in the first place).
I could be way off base but I'm thinking that possibly there is corruption (or wrong file system?) problems with the internal SD (I did format the External SD at the start of this).
I appreciate your help. Any suggestions from here?

Additional Note: Settings are not saved between reboots.

-Rooted
-Installed ROM Manager
-Installed CWM 3
-Reboot into Recovery Mode
No go. Same /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 error (installation aborted)
The 3e recovery also says:
"your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions."
I tried both wipes. Errors.

Use the full odin restore package and make sure you use pit and pda files. Repartition must be checked. Wiping data might be a good idea as well.

I would odin the full mesmerize package EE19. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881064

That is what I have already done I believe. Followed instructions from:

If you've done that, then i'm at a loss. That usually is my solve-all solution... Sorry man.

Thank you much. Is it possible that I could have a faulty internal SD? I had suddenly started getting a lot of force closes in CM7. I guess I'm just wondering if I'm fighting two separate issues here. (My bonehead move vs. a real problem)
-MT

I think I'm FIXED!
I was finally (I don't know how) able to get Odin to Flash CWM 4 (The Blue one needed to install CM7).
I got ZERO errors in CWM. So I took the opportunity to clear caches, format data...I got destructive.
I then installed the CM7 Rom. -SUCCESS
Installed GAPPS - SUCCESS
I hope everything is OK at this point. I know CM7 is booting in about 20 seconds opposed to 5 minutes like it was before I decided to try to morph my phone into an I9000.
I actually saw the black screen with the little phone to PC icons at one point tonight. I think I came real close....
Thanks for your help!
PS: CONFIRMED mmcblk0p1 is mounted! (EFS, etc) PHEW!

I had this happen to me right after a Odin even did the rfs formatter tool exact same problems not saving settings upon reboot and it saying something along the lines of process.android.blah blah blah and double vibrate when booting before the fc anyhow I just reflashed miui to get cwm4 wiped everything reflashed cm7 no probs since

[Q] My CWM 3.x.x.x backup doesn't work : SGS2

Hi,
I checked through many threads to see if anyone had a similar problem but couldn't find anything unfortunately.
Background :
I was running a Lite'ning ROM on my Samsung Galaxy S2. You're probably familiar with this ROM, but for those who aren't it gets flashed with ODIN and comes rooted and pre-installed with CWM.
I forget which version of Lite'ning ROM it was, but I am fairly certain it was pre-1.5 as the bundled CWM was definitely version 3.x.x.x (later versions I found had 4.x.x.x and 5.x.x.x).
I wanted to try a version of GalnetMIUI for something a bit different and hadn't changed ROMs in quite some time, so I booted into CWM 3.x.x.x (maybe 3.0.0.2?) and did a backup to the internal SD. This came in at around 1.4 GB and comprised of 4 files :
cache.img
data.img
nandroid.md5
system.img
I copied these to my PC too, just in case they somehow got erased from my phone.
Once I'd done this, I then copied the new ROM .zip file (latest version of GalnetMIUI) to the root of the internal SD, booted the phone into CWM, wiped user data and Dalvik cache, then proceeded to install it.
The problem :
I can't get my apps or data back. I was under the false impression that my Google account was automatically backing this up for me, and would restore everything once logged in as it had in the past (factory resets etc.). So once this didn't happen, I tried using CWM to revert back to how things were before installing the new ROM but although the restore appears to work I end up with issues.
I've tried a number of different ROMs and they either get stuck in 'boot loops' or a black screen after running through the restore procedure. I've tried restoring just data via the 'Advanced' option but this doesn't help.
I was under the impression that I'd be able to fully restore the ROM backup if I needed to, and have the phone running exactly how it was prior to messing around. It would seem this is not the case.
In desperation I tried flashing every Lite'ning ROM from version 1.0 to 4.2, restoring my backup each time but as mentioned I always get boot issues.
Have I lost my data? I hope not, as I had 'To Do' lists and all sorts of things that would cause problems if they were not retrievable. I realise this is a lack of knowledge and foresight on my part. I'm thinking now that I should have run Titanium Backup prior to this, and not assumed that CWM was going to provide a complete solution.
Hope all this makes sense and if any of you have the time to read through and offer advice it would be greatly appreciated. I am currently running a very pretty and slick GalnetMIUI without any of my data!
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that, I'll give it a go tonight after work. Am I right in thinking that if it doesn't work I can extract the individual files and insert them manually to get my app data back?
OK, so after hours of searching I'm still no wiser as to how to install CWM 2.5.1.2
I found a zip file that was apparently version 2.5.1.2 but when I tried to install it from inside CWM 5.0.2.6 (included with GalnetMIUI) it sometimes gives an error, sometimes it reboots CWM and sometimes it simply says it has successfully installed (it lies). No matter what it says or does, it doesn't seem to actually replace version 5.0.2.6 with the older one and every time I do the three-finger boot it loads up the latest version like nothing changed.
I'm just so lost. All I want to do is restore my old backup, get my data back and move on. Please someone help me before I go insane from all this research!
[EDIT] In case any more information is needed, my exact procedure for installing version 2.5.1.2 of CWM went like this :
Download 2.5.1.2 zip file
Copy zip file to root folder on internal SD
Boot into CWM 5.0.2.6
Select "install zip from sdcard"
Select "choose zip from sdcard"
Navigate to 2.5.1.2 zip file, select and confirm
Can anyone help me at all?
In particular I'd like to know how I can downgrade to CWM 2.5.1.2 or similar in order to give [email protected]'s suggestion a go.
Failing that, if anyone has any suggestions whatsoever about how I can get my backup data restored it would be greatly appreciated. After spending some time with MIUI - in particular the Galnet ICS build - I have nothing but praise, but I really have to get my data back!
You should be able to downgrade through ROM manager. Go to "All Clockwork Mod Recoveries" and just flash one that is not 5.x.x. Any backup not made with version 5 will not work with the new version So if you can flash one that is version 2, 3 or 4 you should be good to go. If that doesn't work you can fastboot flash it. There are guides on how to do that.
Wait.....did you mount /system before installing the CWM zip ?

For some reason, when I select "All ClockworkMod Recoveries" the only two options are 4.0.1.4 and v4.0.1.4. I'll have to look into "fastboot" flashing as I've never heard of that.
By the way, if I boot into CWM via ROM Manager the version that loads is 4.0.1.5, but if I perform the three-button combo when switching my device on I get version 5.0.2.6.

I didn't, is that something I should try?
Edit - Just tried this and at first it rebooted CWM and the version number hadn't changed. Doing this again yielded me the following error with no change in version number :
Code:
E:Error in /sdcard/CM V 2.5.1.2_update.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted.
I found out that I can extract the contents of my backed up .img files using unyaffs.exe.
Unless I'm doing something wrong, it would appear that my backup is corrupt somehow. When trying to extract data.img, it processes for a while and does bring back a lot of files but I also get the following :
Code:
read image file
: Bad file descriptor
read image file
: Bad file descriptor
data.img is around 1.2GB but the files I extract only amount to around 190MB.
It would appear that I don't have my contacts database in there which is annoying as for some reason there were quite a few that didn't get synced to Google's servers.

[Q] CWM unable to mount /system

This has been mentioned elsewhere, even by me but I think it has fallen through the cracks. It may be an unrelated problem but when trying to use CWM to do a backup it fails saying that /system cannot be mounted.
The issue it may be related to is that CWM on boot installed via either method fails to stick past the initial reboot. It looks to me that it is restoring an image on start up each time undoing any changes. It must not be changing everything because the root sticks. I have made sure init.d support has been installed. The phone is an AT&T branded MB865, has been rooted and is running stock 2.3.6 firmware.
Any pointers will be appreciated and I come from an embedded Linux background so I'm willing to help out, but why re-invent the wheel if this has already been solved.

Update your busybox .
I had thought of that, running BusyBox 1.20, 1.20.1 fails to install. As 1.20 is fairly recent I doubt this is the problem. The initial install of CWM via Power Boost works, so busybox is installed correctly. An old version of busy box wouldn't explain the not being able to mount /system as as far as I know it isn't used by CWM for this purpose, but I could be wrong. But it could explain the CWM not sticking problem.
Further investigation shows that the system partition does not change between doing a PowerBoost CWM install and after a reboot meaning that there is nothing screwy going on like the boot sequence over writing files in system so that CWM isn't persistent. Can anyone enlighten me on the boot sequence so I can take a look to see if anything is getting over written?
This of course gets me no closer on why CWM can't mount system but it is just one of two problems.

Have you tried "fix permissions" in cwm?.then reboot and see if it still gives you that error when you go back into cwm

I'm pretty sure I had already tried all that, but just to be sure I did it all again, here is what happened
PowerBoost CWM install
Reboot into CWM
CWM Fix permissions
CWM recovery restart
CWM backup
Failed due to not being able to mount /system
Power cycled, didn't boot into CWM
Since permissions may have changed once CWM Fix permissions had been run
PowerBoost CWM install
Reboot
Enters CWM
Reboot
Didn't boot into CWM
Surely I'm not the only one seeing this problem?

Still doesn't explain the inability to mount /system

Id say rsd flash 2.3.5 . Root. Install atrix bootstrapper. And see if problem persists.
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium
Ok, reflashed back to 2.3.5, rooted, Bootstraped, tried to mount /system from CWM, no luck, same error. Tried to install CWM on boot using the zip from CWM, didn't seem to work. Tried the fix permissions script from CWM, still doesn't work.
There is something up with this phone, is it possible that Motorola has decided to be extra evil.
I till haven't gotten very far with this but I have some more information on what may be the issue. I can get it to update the system partition by flashing a zip. I decided to give it a go with SCV6 as I was sure I'd be able to recover if it failed. It flashed just fine but on reboot it dropped out to the fastboot screen. This is where I decided to get creative, I mounted the system.img file from from the stock fimware, deleted its contents and replaced it with what is in the SCV6 zip system directory, after all this is what CWM will be doing as far as I could tell. I then flashed this file using moto-fastboot. It failed on boot dropping out at fastboot again.
Running out of time for the day I decide to just restore it back to stock, I have a Linux script to automate the process, on completion, same failure. What had happened is I had mounted the system.img file to look inside and then unmounted it, and this may have changed a signature or checksum in the filesystem so it failed to boot. Re-extracting the system.img file and flashing again worked fine.
Are there different versions of the bootloader that do different things? Mine just being a total pain and not allowing much at all.
Just realised the install script puts in a whole pile of symlinks, not having them would cause a boot failure on creating the image the way I did. It will be possible to create an image with said symlinks.
This though fails to explain while mounting and then unmounting the system.img makes it fail.
I may just be talking to myself here but I have some relevant information relating to the original problem of not being able to mount /system which is why flashing doesn't work as well as the flashing scripts don't actually check to see if the system partition is mounted, they just assume it is.
In CWM if you try to mount /system then look at the log it says
mount: mounting /dev/block/mmcblk1p20 on /system failed: Invalid argument
Now the question is, what is the mount line it is trying to execute and which argument is invalid? Can someone with a working phone go into CWM, unmount /system if its mounted by default and then mount it, look at the log and tell me what it says regarding the mounting of system.
Here is the really interesting part, once the phone has booted and checking what is actually mounted on /system its /dev/block/mmcblk1p21, so CWM is trying to mount the wrong partition
I worked out the problem, I was using the Razr bootstrap which obviously mounts a different partition as system, I had followed some instructions that I read somewhere that the Razr version worked and gave a link to said package. Once I swapped to the atrix 2 version it all works, I'll attempt to install SCV6 tomorrow night when I have some time.

Sdcard partition messed up, phone no longer boots

[This is a repost of my post over at Android Central]
Hey Everybody,
My Nexus S 4G has been unusable for a few days now and I need some help diagnosing the problem and determining if it can even be fixed.
What happened: I was running jstntp's Android 4.1.1 rom (ver 2.0). I liked the performance of version 1.2 a little better so I went back to it. Being 1.2 didn't have wifi tethering enabled I figured I'd try a 3rd party wifi tethering app just to see if it'd work (I can't remember the name of it). After install my phone rebooted itself (looking like a crash) and went into an immediate boot loop. I quickly booted to recovery and tried simply reinstalling 1.2. That failed. So I tried restoring a nandroid backup. That failed too.
What i've tried to fix it: I have tried flashing (via fastboot) stock gingerbread, stock ics, google's official stock gingerbread, google's official stock ics, sprint's official ics via odin, and a half a dozen different 3rd party roms such as some bugless beast roms that I have used in the past. The stock images all appear to flash fine with no complaints from installers. Even odin installed and displayed it's "passed" message.
Where it gets weird: In all of my recovery efforts I noticed a strange occurance happening. Everytime I would load something to the "sdcard" (whether it be by mounting in cwm or pushing through adb) it would appear in cwm while it was booted there (yet fail to install anything) and would disapear as soon as I booted out of cwm. Also, if I deleted any files while mounted (or deleted from adb shell for that matter) they would reappear after rebooting. At this point I figured the root of all of my problems is that my "sdcard" partition has a problem and needs to be fixed.
How i've tried to fix the "sdcard" partition:
- Chose to format /sdcard in cwm recovery. It said it was successful but didn't do anything at all
- Chose to format /sdcard in twrp recovery. It said "E:tw_format_rmfr: unable to locate volume for device "/dev/block/mmcblk0p3" "
- Did fastboot erase media
- Locked the device and unlocked it again agreeing to wipe all data (nothing got deleted)
- Pushed busybox over adb and ran mkfs.vfat on /dev/block/mmcblk0p3. It didn't complain and said it was successful. (still nothing deleted)
At this point I'm really at a loss. I will do anything to get this to boot. I don't care what version of Android I wind up on, I don't care that I have to lose all of the stuff on my "sdcard" (it's all backed up anyway). Just having a working phone would be great.
Thanks in advance,
- Phil -
Mount USB on Windows and just format it. Or before that you could try running chkdsk {yourdrive} /F
The chkdsk is on windows.

[Q] Startup error - installed wrong script

To whom ever can help out, I have a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, and cannot seem to get my problem resolved by myself. I have somehow inadvertently managed to install an update.zip that had or had no relations to this particular OS of this particular model of android.
My problem is that I wanted to be able to, migrate my apps to the external SdCard or extSdCard, and I think I used an update.zip designed for the cellphone HTC Evo 4g. Not realizing that I will be later unable to use the restore feature from a previous backup I had made using CWM 6.0.1.0 to recover from my inadvertent mistake (not to comfortable making a backup, and thinking I can restore properly anymore, like I can on my cellphone that I am spoiled with).
Silly of me to think I could use an update.zip designed for another type of device such as the HTC Evo 4g, but… (anyway my bad what was I thinking…?). The update.zip, by the way is "dtapps2sd-2.7.5.2-signed", like I mentioned this is clearly designed for the HTC Evo 4g, and not for the Samsung GT2 7.0.
The problem I experience now is not complete lose of my GT2 7.0 device I can still install and change out OS through the CWM-Recovery and install apps through the Android Market. I do however experience the inability to check my Storage properties under my Settings profile. When I attempt to click on this link it pauses for a second as if it wants to open up and perform its normal function, then reports an error "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped". Now at this point this is where I would have to mention another issue similar to this one, and that is at startup. When I first start the device up and it runs through its process of startup configuration. It will then report a list of programs that are prevented from running properly it as follows;
Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped.
Unfortunately, My Files has stopped.
Unfortunately, Factory Test has stopped.
Unfortunately, MTP has stopped.
Now my question is, how is-it possible to resolve this issue. I have tried to complete a fresh install of the OS, CWM-Recovery, and also attempted to wipe everything possible that the recovery will allow, but I am not expecting much, as I cannot even get the backup and restore feature to work efficiently enough to provide me with what I need it to do…
I have provided this post with a download of the update.zip I used as well as the version of the OS I have provided my Samsung GT2 7.0. If anyone can shine some insight on what direction I should attempt to do to resolve this issue I would be more that interested to take a look at what I could use to correct this error of mine…
-Samsung GT2 7.0 - OS (Use the Download link above the Rosewell signature)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784318
-dtapps2sd-2.7.5.2-signed
http://www.mediafire.com/?7jpc5oudzt6o76p
I might be comfortable to ADB Shell into my device to make changes, or if one was able provide me an update.zip/script that would be great. Also is there a better recovery out there than the ClockWorkRecovery.
Better recovery so you may try twrp or so

Factory reset in stock recovery. So Odin a stock Rom and before u install anything custom, do a factory reset in recovery after u Odin back to stock. Then flash away.
I imagine you have alrdy tried a factory reset using a custom recovery.
WAIT!!! You don't have to factory reset, just reboot into CWM recovery ang go to mounts and storage>wipe internal storage. Confirm and reboot. You will lose anything on the sdcard but your apps will stay.

1. I am all over the Factory resets, and wipes.
2. Already tried Stock Rom(s).
3. I believe my problem is a bootloader, or partitioning script. (As this denies me access from inside settings>storage where I can view my allocated size, and Restore to Factory button. In addition in CWM, I am not allowed to mount/sdcard(internal), extSdCard is ok though. Also, I cannot plug Tab via USB to check contains on Internal or External sdcard, but I can remove the External to transfer data from it via sdcard slot on PC...)
Maybe you can recommend a good Stock Rom, so I can give that ago...
I was in the process last night, and could not get a good connection with Heimdall or Odin. I am now looking into driver issues, so...
Ok, so I was successful in taking RomsWell and MultipleMonomials advice, and was able to return my device back to "Normal" state, including "Stock Recovery". But I still have the original problem as in my request I asked in my first post...
I do however experience the inability to check my Storage properties under my Settings profile. When I attempt to click on this link it pauses for a second as if it wants to open up and perform its normal function, then reports an error "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped". Now at this point this is where I would have to mention another issue similar to this one, and that is at startup. When I first start the device up and it runs through its process of startup configuration. It will then report a list of programs that are prevented from running properly it as follows;
Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped.
Unfortunately, My Files has stopped.
Unfortunately, Factory Test has stopped.
Unfortunately, MTP has stopped.

I think now, if I cannot get a sizable remedy..., is just to try and send it in Samsung so they can take a look at it...
Any suggestions...?
FYI; I have also tried connecting to Kies, but due to the inability to posses a "MTP" (Media Transfer Protocol), is the reason I cannot connect to my SdCard & extSdCard. I can "PTP" (Picture Transfer Protocol) into it, using "adb shell", but not using "MTP"...
So I do not know how much "MTP" has to do with this relationship of the other three items that I mentioned in my bullet list in my quote, but...
Anyway, I don't know what I am trying to say, but thank you two, for getting me this far...!

1. I am all over the Factory resets, and wipes.
2. Already tried Stock Rom(s).

Did you try formatting internal storage in CWM?

I am not quite confident on how much this will work. As I have tried this multiple times to wipe "Wipe Factory/Data", "Wipe Cache", including all the partitions under the "Advance" section found in CWM Recovery. Even using TWRP Recovery.
Per this post; I just attempted to flash a "Stock Rom", but not before doing a factory/data, cache wipe using "Stock Recovery", including after a successful install...
No luck, the same problem still exist as above...
Ok, this was all just the rudest experience I put my self threw. As I have an HTC Evo 4g - cellphone and have become comfortable with installing ROM's, Kernels, and Updates.zips, as well as, other modification. All threw the Recovery designed for this particular device, and don't get me wrong there has been a couple of times. Maybe more than a couple, more like a few times I have installed incompatible downloads I find in the XDA forums. Which makes this screw up, difficult form me to know that as long as you can get into a Download/Bootloader or a modified Recovery designed for a particular device that was successful flashed correctly. Well the screw up are easily redeemed/recoverable.
So, to make a long story short. After having called Samsung Customer Care (the 1-800-SAMSUNG) number, it seems to have been a External SdCard getting in my way from having been real short from sending my Tab off to the repair department (where ever it is...). I in fact already had it in an envelope, all I needed was an address to send it to. Anyway the nice person on the other side of the phone requested that I remove my External SdCard, and confirm that I was able to get into my "Storage" tab under my settings. Well after success getting this option back, I then made the suggestion that maybe my Eternal SdCard is corrupt or incorrectly formatted. She then agreed maybe this is the case. After ending the phone call. I quickly restarted my Tab, again only to find out that I was no longer receiving the error messages like mentioned above, which is great, because after multiple flashes of "Stock Roms w/Stock Recovery", and forcing myself to believe that it was a system install error. It in fact the External SdCard in place preventing me from throwing my Tab against the wall / in the mail to Samsung Repair Center...
"Man what an ordeal...!!!"
Thanks to all that helped with the suggestions, as to what direction I most defiantly tried.
I am now in the process, since I am living back in Stock mode. To receive an OTA (Over The Air) Update, and am still in the process of seeing if this thing still possess any residual silent errors...
I will keep you posted.
If not, well it off to happy rooting for me...!!!
That is it, my problem is resolved. Damnedest thing this problem of mine, it seems the only thing I screwed up was the micro SdCard. to the point it was the cause of all the error I received when I started up the device, as well as when I attempted to access my storage through me settings options...!!!
Now re-rooted, and a happy camper, Cheers...!

My phone wont boot into Cmw recovery, Please help.

My phone is rooted (With Super One Click) and when tap the "boot into recovery" option in Rom Manager it just send me to the stock recovery (with Blue text and what not). I have flashed Rom Manager with my Sidekick 4g before I tried to boot into recover. Please, someone help me. The answer is probably right in my face, but my noobish eyes just cant see it. :crying:
Please don't bash me this is my first post. I made sure there wasnt any post like this before i started a new tread.
Don't use ROM Manager with Sidekick 4G as CWM doesn't work the same way. When you reboot you always go into Samsung recovery from where you gotta reinstall packages to 'fake flash' the CWM recovery. If it says permission denied, the recovery file wasn't pushed to /system properly. You gotta reinstall every single time .. till of course you install a custom ROM. I think most come with voodoo CWM which replaces stock recovery, allowing you to go into CWM directly when you go to Recovery.
Firstly you need root, which I'm assuming you already have. Then you have to move a custom recovery to your phone's /system to allow you to install unsigned packages. You can do this using root explorer (paid app, but its the most simple and easy way of doing it) or you can do it using other similar apps that give you R/W (read and write) access. You also need to have a custom recovery file, the update.zip which when you hit reinstall packages (given you pushed the custom recovery file to the phone's system) would bring up clockworkmod recovery.
Read the noob guide here -> link. Its REALLY good and gives you a step by step of how to root / get custom recovery and install custom ROM.
Go here -> link. For more in depth information about getting a custom recovery. And here -> link. for Krylon's recovery files (links on his thread aren't all working).
Edit: Looks like the links on Krylon's page aren't working .. if someone can give an alternative it would be great!
I'm thinking about ODIN my device and start over but this time following one of the guides provided. I got cwm working but now I get a long script of code with a error that saids that it can't mount this and stuff like that. Ill try to post a image to give you a little better look at my problem. And for some reason the cmw logo isn't coming up behind the orange text.

Those guided really helped me out I spent ages reading up different things so when I finally went and did it, I didn't face any problems!
Important notes:
1. Root, obviously I personally didn't use the latest edition of SuperOneClick (at the time) on the website, but the file the dev posted on his XDA Thread.
2. Don't use ROM Manager or any other 'one click' kind of recovery for this phone. You need to download a custom recovery file and update file (links above, thanks Krylon) and go into CWM Recovery through the official Samsung Recovery through reinstalling the custom update file. This is the only way to access Orange CWM. Most custom ROMs come with the Red Voodoo CWM which is permanent in the sense that when you go into recovery, you should go into CWM (Red), instead of having to go through Samsung.
3. Orange CWM (and some say Red CWM as well) has some mounting issues. Always remember to check your mounts such that System, Data (well just to be safe, all of the items in the list) always say UNMOUNT. Basically when its mounted, means CWM has access to the partition. It says UNMOUNT because it is MOUNTED. I know thats a bit confusing, but think of it like this - there is a light switch that says ON so when you press it, turns the lights on but then the writing changes to OFF because you need to push the switch to turn it off. Erm .. hope that helps?! Lol.
4. Basically if your partitions are showing up as MOUNT, means you need to MOUNT them. Otherwise whatever changes you did won't apply! Instead of getting confused like I did, just make sure the screen says UNMOUNT SYSTEM and so forth for the rest of the items on the list.
5. Before installing a custom ROM, I always wiped x 3, before and after. Means after checking mounts, wipe data / dalvik, etc. 3 times. So for me, after checking mounts I would go to wipe date - yes - done 1; wipe data - yes - done 2; wipe data - yes - done 3. Followed by wipe dalvik and whatever else you want to wipe. Then I'd check mounts again (they usually get unmounted after a wipe .. well for me they always have anyway) before installing the ROM. Oh, sometimes I installed the ROM twice. Then I'd check mounts, wipe x 3, check mounts again before finally rebooting and letting it stand still for around 20 minutes or so. I don't really know if there is a logic or if doing it so many times makes a difference but I know some other people have done this and (other than wasting time) it doesn't really do any harm (someone correct me if I'm wrong) so why the hell not? I think the basic reasoning behind double / triple wiping and installing is to make sure that the changes are properly written as sometimes the system still retains old data.
6. Some people have SD card partitioning issues apparent. I can't remember why everyone went around partitioning in the first place (it must have been for some important reason, completely slipped my mind right now .. I personally did it to link my apps / data to SD card and save internal memory / space) but I personally used Gparted to partition my card on a computer (rather than CWM on the phone as I've heard people have issues with this) and never had a problem.
But I think thats it. I know there is a lot of information but its really worth having a look at the guide and other posts on that thread as that and the ROM thread (I personally use GOV 3.2) really had me prepare for any possible issue beforehand so I started off in a position where I could avoid them.
