[Q] LauncherPro vs LG Home - LG Optimus 3D

LauncherPro vs LG Home
which is better and why, also if I use LauncherPro, I have to uninstall LG Home?

I have a LG thrill 4g.. pretty much same as optimus 3d and I'm using launcher pro and its pretty smooth.. i prefer it because of its widgets .. and no you do not have to remove the stock launcher..

not it is not possible with LauncherPro, try GoLauncher EX that gives you the ability to make categories of applications that you have,I think it is the very best has been released until now

so whats better LauncherPro or GoLauncher EX, I just need some launcher to replace LG laucher, cuz it eats system and all battery is consumed with 60% from adnroid system only (many people pointed out that's it's LG Home whats doing that)

3d app drawer on sense ui

I Hope I am putting this in the right place, if not I am sorry!!! I was wondering if there is a way to add the 3d app drawer that is on Launcher pro onto htc sense ui? If anyone knows of a way please let me know I will be greatful!!!!!!! [email protected]
No it's not
Just use LauncherPro.
I like the some of the htc widgets that sense ui has
there must be a way to port that 3d app drawer over
As far as I know the app drawer isn't an app, and it's part of the default home app. The reason LauncherPro has the 3D one is because they wrote that all themselves - they control EVERYTHING.
LauncherPro Plus has started creating widgets that are almost identical to the HTC widgets. As of now, only the People widget is released, but more are on the way.

I agree 100% and if anybody finds a how too I'd be interested in it too.
Could a theme change the app drawer?

No. It isn't possible. Move on to a superior launcher and get replacement widgets.

I have tried everything i can think of before and I could never get it to work is is a part of the home screen I would even settle for adw with 3d like I have with froyo on my droid
The people widget for launcher pro is it something that needs to be downloaded from the market or is it in launcher pro already. I didn't see under widget in launcher pro so I wonder if it needs to be downloaded from the market.
It's in Launcher Pro Plus, it's a paid app.

Yes, I'm sure he knows that. That's why he wants to port a LauncherPro feature to Sense instead of switching to LauncherPro.

I did switch to a superior launcher... when I set HTC sense as my default. I've tried the others and bottom line I don't like how they look and I'm not going to go hunt down and pay for apps and widgets that are half as good as my HTC ones.
On here I've tried different themes, roms and all kinds of stuff, and I would really doubt that just changing the app drawer is impossible
Launcher pro (free and paid) allow you to have a 3d app drawer.

I was in the OPs shoes until the other day, you REALLY should give LauncherPro another shot because there are widgets out there better than HTC Sense's. LauncherPro Plus includes a people widget, Fancy Widget = HTC Sense's clock, pure calendar grid= freaking awesome calendar, Pure messenger = way better than friendstream... seriously you should check them out.
I will do that thanks for tip!
I had a 3d one similar to what the Nexus has on my phone.

Is 7 Widgets a lot?

I'm currently using 5 home screens with 7 Widgets. The scrolling isnt as smooth as I hope it to be. Just want to see how many other people have.
Services also hovers around 100-130
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
That's not too many at all. But the smooth home screen scrolling comes when you turn off live wall paper and use a static one. That's what I've found matters, not the widgets.
This is what I have on my Nexus S, with ADW.Launcher EX:
1st. power control widget, switchpro widget, flashlight widget, gv widget
2. facebook, twitter
3. none.
4. google search, buncha shortcuts for folder organizers.
Buttery smooth.
one thing i forgot to mention is that on all other android phone's i've used, launcher pro and ADW make the home screen scrolling buttery smooth. but the stock launcher is never as smooth, even brand new with nothing loaded.
i believe it's something that the dev's did to enhance these aftermarket launchers, so its highly recommended to use one of them over stock.
If im using launcher pro, is it best to delete all the widgets in the stock launcher or wont it matter?

yes definitely delete all items off the stock launcher as i'm pretty sure that still is in the background so the less resources it needs to keep in memory the better since you're not using it anyway.
I have 7 widgets: 2 1x1, 4 4x1, and 1 4x2. I'm also using the clock live wallpaper. Scrolling is smooth as butter on stock. No roms, optimizations, or 3rd party apps. Perhaps the live wallpaper I've used (clock, microbes, and nexus) didn't use much resource.
I use several Widgets, Facebook, twitter, clock, NHL gamecenter, tweetdeck post, and use the matrix live wallpaper on bone stock and scrolling is smooth for me ad well.

Alternate launchers

If I use one of the alternate launchers available (LP, ADW, etc), and decide to go back to Sense, will my current setup be saved or will I have to redo it again?

You're current setup will remain the same. For example, if you setup folders/widgets in the Sense launcher, then install LauncherPro and setup widgets/folders in LauncherPro. Both settings will be saved. They're actually switchable - you can use Sense and switch to LauncherPro, and switch back to Sense.
When you install another launcher and press the "Home" key, a popup will ask which app you want to perform this action with, Sense or <other_launcher>. This popup will appear every time you hit the "Home" key while you're on the home screen until you check the "remember" box.
That's one of the best explanations I've ever seen

Good info. Can you use the Sense widgets with Launcher Pro? I used Launcher Pro on my old phone, and I'm still debating switching to it for the TBolt. While I like some of the features of Launcher Pro better, I'm also fond of some of the HTC widgets.
HTC widgets will not work with any alternate launcher, unfortunately.

what widgets are you wanting to keep...more than likely there is a better alternate somewhere in the market. That has been my experience anyways.
You can also back up your LPP settings as well... Not sure bout ADW.

I've been using Launcher Pro and never looked back
Launcher Pro and ADW Launcher are both extremely similar and offer nearly identical functionality.
Launcher Pro has a leg up with the sense-like widgets... but I honestly do not use many of them. I also like the swipe-able dock in LPP.
ADW is a solid launcher as well and I enjoy some of the features of ADW (different gestures, UI stuff).
I recommend trying both and seeing what you like best. And always support the developers... get Launcher Pro Plus or ADW Launcher EX.
Just a note... I found the app HomeSmack makes it very easy to switch between Home apps. I found it a pain on the T-bolt unless you have just installed a new home app.
This lets you pick which one you want to switch to and you can switch temporarily or set it as the default.
If you set it to remember an alternate launcher and want to change, how do you do it?

I'm also a big fan of Home Switcher for Froyo. I'm not sure how it differs from Home Smack, but it's a seamless process to switch between two launchers. That being said, I'm pretty much always on Launcher Pro.
Zeam Launcher is a nice simple Launcher with intuitive controls and it supports HTC widgets.
I liked LauncherPro on my Droid X, but I never used it much because It slowed the phone down ever so slightly.
Does LP cause any noticeable performance decrease or noticeable extra battery usage on the TB?

Go Settings -> Applications and find the launcher you set as default, select the 'clear defaults' button and when you hit Home again it should prompt what launcher to use.

Your comments about Zeam appear to be flawed... in no way does Zeam support HTC's widgets. No home replacement application can use HTC's widgets. While I'll give it to you that Zeam is a simple nice launcher that is a false statement
I forgot to mention one of the main reasons i started using launcherpro was that it can hide all the icons in the app drawer. Priceless

I've seen some of the alternatives already, although I particularly like the weather/clock combo widget with the weather animations. I'm mainly considering the cost/benefit of switching to another launcher, buying alternative widgets(Such as Beautiful Widgets), etc. I think I'll stick with Sense for now though, until I have a more compelling reason to change it.

[Q] Stock Launcher smoother than Launcher Pro

I just got the Nexus S. Before installing CM 7 i tried out the stock launcher with a live wallpaper running. I was surprised at how smooth it was and that it had a very nice way of scrolling through the app drawer. After installing CM7 and launcher pro plus i noticed that opening the app drawer wasn't as smooth with a live wallpaper running and it didn't have the nice way of scrolling. Launcher pro has many more features but the stock did have that smoothness. Is there anyway to get this on launcher pro?
You could try playing with the settings and see if you can normalize it.
There are other alternatives to launchers if you like.
ADW Launcher EX (Paid), ADW Launcher (Free), GO Launcher EX, and more.

not sure what you mean by normailzing. also i would like to use launcher pro only. thanks!
Launcher pro is almost always smoother than stock launcher. But with live wallpaper I know what you mean with the choppy app drawer. Only solution is use static wallpaper instead.
damn that sucks..thanks anyways
The only launcher where the app drawer stays smooth with a live wallpaper selected is the stock launcher, all the other ones get choppy.

Here is a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933517 it's a zip that removes adw and add stock launcher
Stock launcher is the only one that can use hardware acceleration therefore it will always be faster/smoother than any 3rd party launcher.
with the exception of UD Launcher which was used in nscollab for only two releases. Loved it because it was just as smooth and basically the same as the stock launcher but gave you more home-screens and a 5 button dock option and saved a lot of battery even!!!
But then again I guess it is based directly on the stock launcher - at least that'd be my guess.

yes it does, only on the nexus s so far with gingerbread. other phones it is powered by the CPU like normal. i guess google wanted to take advantage of the nexus s powerful hardware. just wish they did it for the rest of the phone, like the web browser, etc.
Yes that's true. Stock Launcher is smoother than ADW, ADW EX and LauncherPro.
I realized that a few weeks ago.
How do i enable the stock launcher? I downloaded Gingerbread Launcher from the market? is that the same thing?

Best Launcher for HOX

I don't plan on rooting my phone until I feel like the phone has had a bit of time to establish itself.
What are some suggestions for a good launcher that works on ICS devices?
I've tried Nova and Apex so far, both are "stock-looking" ICS launchers. Neither are as smooth as the default Sense launcher.
That slight, almost imperceptible jittering as you scroll between home screens just kills the experience, IMO.
May just stick to sense for a while then..

Really? I thought the stock Sense launcher was terribly laggy. For example, if you haven't used your app drawer in a while, it takes one to two seconds to pop up.

Blame the app priority handling for that launch delay.
Nova is, imo, the best ICS launcher. i tried Apex and used it for a good while until the animations for opening the app drawer became extremely laggly. never had this problem with Nova.
I am coming from a Galaxy Nexus so I am used to stock 4.0. I just couldn't do the stock Sense Launcher, it wasn't terrible but I just wanted what I was used to. I used Nova Launcher (my first experience) and I am using Widget Locker as the lock screen. Ahhhh, much better. I also switched to the Stock ICS keyboard. Here are some Screen Shots.
First thing I did when I got my HOX today is go install Go Launcher EX. Sadly, it doesn't appear that Go Launcher EX has been updated for ICS yet, so it has the menu button at the bottom of the screen... yuck!
Guess I'll give these two (Apex, Nova) launchers a try and see how they work out. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to give Sense a try either...

You use "Chrome", I thought I try it myself but one of reasons in the past I loved Android was the ability to run Flash.
I use Nova Launcher.
Found the Stock Launcher was lagged, but Nova runs only on ICS+ the pro version for a few dollars asks for no permissions at all.
The pro version allows me to hide shortcuts to Rogers Bloatware.

The clock on the lock screen is part of WidgetLocker. The clock on the Launcher is Simi Clock Widget. I have played around a little more and have this thing looking almost stock (minus the menu bar).
Nevermind, had an issue with live wallpapers not working. Restarting fixed it.

Would be very cool if we can use the Nova launcher or Apex launcher with Sense widgets. Any way to make those work together ?
As far as I know it can't be done, but search for Android Pro Widgets in the Android Market and it's pretty cool - can be themed too.
Nova Launcher is what i was using before on my GNex. finally got it set up the same on the HOX and it runs smoother. before when i'd be on another page except the homescreen and hit the home button, there would be a little stutter happening at least 1 out of every two times. this never happens on the HOX. ever. smooth as butter. very happy with my setup now
hello
